Fashion, the eternal language of self-expression. Chakras, an ancient map of understanding oneself.

Fashion, the eternal language of self-expression. Chakras, an ancient map of understanding oneself. It is through journeying the landscape of our soul, we are able to express our most authentic self. It is through what we wear and our personal style, we are able to find our place in the world and express who we are.

“A garment can transcend, giving it a soul”- Akira Isogawa

I agree with Akira that a garment can transcend, but the spiritual evolution of clothing does not lie in fabric woven. It lies in our soul, in our being, and the meaning we give what we wear. The Chakras are my map of understanding the soul, and it is through fashion that I hope to share with you the keys for navigation.

To provide a little background information, the role of the chakra system is to help regulate the human energy field, commonly known as the Aura. Each Chakra Influences a different aspect of who we are, and how we relate to the world from our survival, sexuality and personal power through to how we love, communicate, use our imagination and connect with spirituality.

By now you may be wondering how an esoteric concept like an Aura or Chakras could be translated creatively through fashion. With that in mind, I have collated images of some my favourite Australian designer pieces, along with descriptions of the energy of each Chakra, and how that energy relates to each item of fashion featured.

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” ~Coco Chanel

Muladhara – The Base Chakra

Muladhara is the Sanskrit name for the first chakra, which translates to ‘Root Support’. Physically it is located at the base of the spine, and governs the denser parts of our body including our bones and teeth. It is also responsible for our digestion and any downward motion experienced in the body.

Earth is the element associated with the Base Chakra. It governs our sense of solidarity in the world. The vibration of the Base Chakra is very much connected to our tribal and instinctual self. For our ancestors survival was a primary concern in nurturing life, and in the modern world we still require food, shelter, and family to feel safe and secure. As soon as these aspects of our lives are threatened, we feel that our sense of safety in the world is also under siege.

It is through connecting with the base chakra we are able to feel safe and secure nurturing our physical lives, and embracing our ‘root support’.

Australian Jewellery Designer, Lucy Folks has always been passionate about the aesthetics of food, and you only have to check out her website to view her fusion of food flavours and jewellery design.

In the picture above you will see Lucy’s spices collection of crocheted bracelets, which are the grounding colours of turmeric and saffron. This collection also includes earrings and pendants shaped like peppercorns and cloves in addition to looped neck chains inspired by India’s Holy Celebrations.

As mentioned above Food is vital to our survival and grounds us to the earth. Without food and nourishment to the physical body we would die, hence why this collection sits in the rhelms of the base chakra. If your looking to work on healing the base chakra there is nothing more grounding than preparing a nutritious and healthy meal. You may also want to add a dash of spice as well!

Based in Byron Bay, New South Wales Spell Designs are Native-American inspired, combining materials like leather, feathers and furs with delicate fabrics. Flicking through the website Spell Designs have an earthy feel to their range of clothing, and are very much about awakening a tribal, earth goddess essence within. The feel of their clothing is relaxed, soothing the physical body and calming the mind.

The energy I feel from Spell is the same energy also connected with the tribal and earthy vibrations experienced at the base chakra. The clothing range feels at one with nature, making this collection perfect for anyone wanting to reconnect with the instinctual self.

Svadhisthana: The Sacral Chakra

Svadhisthana is the Sanskrit name for the Sacral Chakra and in English translates to ‘Sweetness’. The Sacral Chakra is located in the Pelvic region (Sacrum) and correlates to anything that flows within our physical body. This includes our urinary and reproductive systems.

This Chakra is considered to be a feminine energy and is symbolised by the moon and water. In the same way water ebbs, flows and changes form, so do our emotions which are also governed by this Chakra. Our Emotions like water can flow, gush, stagnate, boil or even freeze. It is also through the Sacral Chakra we are able to explore feelings of sensuality and intimacy, in addition to Joy and Pleasure. We are able to tune into to emotions, and surrender to the ebb and flow of life. We do not need to ‘control’ outcomes, and trust in the joy and ‘sweetness’ we experience in any given moment.

I absolutely adore the elegance of Lisa Blue Swimwear. This photograph is from the ‘Water Dragon’ Collection and naturally lends itself to the fluid energy found in the Sacral Chakra.

All swimwear is designed for water, so to make my Sacral Chakra cut I was really looking for an aspect in the design that spoke to me from the energy of Svadisthana. Whilst bold colours and fierce cuts may be the current trend in swim wear, what I love about Lisa Blue is the way the ‘Water Dragon’ range in particular oozes sensuality without being over the top, and the fact that Lisa Blue has inserted Mesh panels on most of her swimwear pieces, to accentuate soft feminine curves and create a subtle contrast. ‘Water Dragon’ is without a doubt, a swimwear range fit for any Aphrodite.

Who could go past Alanah Hill , when it comes to capturing the lightness and joy of pure feminine energy? This image was featured in the David Jones, Alannah Hill Spring Racing Collection.

With elaborate use of floral prints, bows, sequins and lace we are able to awaken an innocent joy found within the soul, and capture the essence of childlike freedom, and what it feels like to be playful. All aspects found in Svadhisthana (The Sanskrit name for this Chakra) translate in English to Sweetness, and this collection is ever so sweet!

Manipura – Solar Plexus Chakra

Manipura is the Sanskrit name for the Solar Plexus Chakra and in English it translates to ‘Lustrous Gem’. This Chakra is located at the spine, in between the naval and the base of the sternum. Physically this Chakra governs the transformation of matter to energy, so regulates our digestions and metabolism. It is through this chakra that we generate our energy and life force.

Just as the Sacral Chakra is feminine , the Solar Plexus Chakra is masculine. Its power is represented by the Sun, and by the element of fire. When our Solar Plexus Chakra is balanced we are motivated, take action and are confident. We have a sense of purpose and the will power to action and achieve goals and objectives we set for ourselves. We also have a sense of self love and self-acceptance, which in turn generates a power within rather than power over the external world. It is here we become the inner warrior.

I get the feeling Sass and Bide may have had the Solar Plexus Chakra in mind when designing this super-HOT top which was featured in The collection Papa Sucre AW11 at London’s prestigious fashion week.

This top speaks to me of flames and the element of fire, symbolic of the Solar Plexus through the use of the yellow and orange feathered texture. I also love the fact that a golden belt is placed around the waist, which is interesting because it is often taught in meditation to visualise a golden plate across the Solar Plexus to protect your energy and power. I even love the models face in this shot, as she displays a confident determination. The Solar Plexus is totally about owning your space in the world, and I would love to wear this top any time I felt the need for a little fire in my day!!

I’m guessing Tyra Banks may describe this ‘We Are Handsome’ one piece swim suit as ‘Fierce’, and I must say I totally agree. All of the Chakras are associated with different animal totems, from the elephant to the wise owl which is why I love everything about the We Are Handsome Animal Print Swimwear Range.

This particular swimming costume features a roaring Lion. Symbolically the lion and the astrological symbol of Leo are also associated with the Solar Plexus energy. Like Manipura the Lion also symbolises passion, power and strength. By its very nature a Lion will hunt to survive, conquering all obstacles that stand in the way. I also love Tyras pose, and ‘fierce’ expression. In her pose and expression she is totally channelling the inner warrior.

Anahata – Heart Chakra

Anahata translates in English to ‘Unstruck’ or ‘Unhurt’ and the main functions of the Heart Chakra lie in forgiveness, compassion, love and healing. This Chakra is understood to be bridge between our physical and spiritual experience of the world around us, and within us. It is here we are able to balance.

Physically this Chakra is located in the middle of our chest, and is associated with our lungs and our heart. It is through our lungs and heart that we distribute oxygen throughout our entire system keeping us alive. Naturally the element associated with the Heart Chakra is Air, and the feeling of this energy can be imagined as taking flight. Free, Expansive and unbridled happiness.

We primarily experience the energy of the heart through our relationships. This may include friends, lovers and most importantly our relationship with our selves. When this chakra is balanced we are also able to experience a connectedness with universal love.

One could be forgiven for mistaking this Camilla Angel for a beautiful bird of paradise. I’m thinking that may have been the inspiration! Quite fitting really, as birds are considered symbols of love and the animal archetype associated with Anahata.

This Camilla Kaftan is such a beautiful expression of the lightness and freedom found at the Heart Centre. For some extra points, the colour associated with this chakra is also a beautiful green, just like the Kaftan featured in the image. I absolutely adore these Kaftans, simply because you can’t help but feeling like a beautiful and radiant goddess of love. The intricate beauty of the prints, and how the silk moves in the wind, one could easily imagine spreading their wings and taking flight.

Each Chakra is also associated with a certain type of Crystal. Rose Quartz is most commonly used to balance the Heart Chakra, and as far as Rose Quartz goes, this Samantha Wills Gun Metal Ring from the Bardot Collection is a personal favourite of mine.

Rose Quartz, with its gentle pink essence, is a stone of the heart, a Crystal of Unconditional Love. It carries an energy of compassion and peace, tenderness and healing, nourishment and comfort. Reawakening the heart to its own innate love, it provides a deep sense of personal fulfilment and contentment, allowing one the capacity to truly give and receive love from others. All I can say is what’s not to love about this gorgeous ring.

Vishuddha – The Throat Chakra

Visuddha or the Throat Chakra translates in English to ‘Purification’. Physically, the throat chakra is connected to the trachea, cervical vertebrae, thyroid, neck, throat and hearing. It is located in the area of the throat. The main function of the throat chakra is to not only purify our physical bodies, but to also purify our communication through knowing and expressing our inner truth with freedom, in addition to speaking truthfully. Our ability to really listen to ourselves, and to those around us is also associated with this energy.

In essence, the energy of Visuddha is clean, pure and radiant like a shining blue diamond. It encompasses the free expression of our most authentic self.

I actually purchased the skirt from the Maurice and Eve Lotus Dress Collection yesterday, and once again I am in love. Quite fitting as it takes a lot of throat chakra energy to create and express this blog of mine. Maybe wearing the skirt has helped me out!

There are two reasons why this print is the perfect expression of the Throat Chakra. Each Chakra is represented by a Lotus Flower which is featured on the print of this dress. The Lotus Flower which symbolises Visuddha is depicted as a silver crescent within a white circle, with 16 light or pale blue petals. I also love that this dress is fitted to the body, with lines that exude a clean and crisp style.

Jeans. They come is all shapes and styles, and they are mostly blue in colour (Just like the throat chakra). As Yves Saint Laurent was quoted as saying ‘They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity’. Just like the energy of Vissudah we are able to express and communicate to the world our most authentic self, and when we put on our favourite Jeans we feel like our authentic self. Even the word Jeans, reminds me of our Genes. The DNA. The coding of we are.

Everyone will have their own point of view on the best jeans, which really sums up my point. Like the Throat Chakra, our Jeans give us the freedom to express who we are, and we are all so unique. Jeans are an item of clothing that feels like a part of who we are. My favourites are off course made by our Australian Queens of Jeans. Sass and Bide. These are the Zippora Jeans in Mid Blue.

Ajna – The Third Eye Chakra

Ajna or the Third Eye Chakra is probably the most famous of the Chakra System. When translated to English, Ajna means to ‘perceive and command’. This Chakra is considered the eye of Intuition. Anything seen with the Third Eye Chakra is experienced within the mind’s eye. This includes imagination and offcourse our dreams.

When we experience the energy of this Chakra, there is no sense of time. We can recall memories from the past, or imagine our future. It is through perceiving the world around us, that we are able to command our life. For example we may ‘see’ something we want, and then manifest that vision as a reality in our lives.

This chakra allows us to experience beyond the physical world. This vision includes development of clairvoyance, telepathy and intuition.

These gorgeous creations are from none other than design duo, Romance Was Born . What I love about the Third Eye Chakra is that through imagination we can create audacious ideas, wild creations and dreamlike visions.

I also adore the use of the ever so colourful eye make-up seen in these images. It is as though the third eye has been literally painted on the models faces, creating a mystical mask to another world. The colour that resonates with Ajna is Indigo, however when this chakra is opened through meditation, many people experience a light often with multiple colours coming out of it. I love that these outfits reflect the divine rainbow of our wildest dreams.

Women love art. Whilst we may not draw or create master pieces most of us will refine, highlight and accentuate our features with make-up. The eyes are considered to be the windows to the soul, and when you consider the power of not only our physical eyes but also the third eye chakra, this statement rings true.

You favourite products may include liner, mascara or eye shadow. Eye Lash extensions, glitter or paint. It really doesn’t matter, because as long as you love make up you are free to paint and play with all the colours in the world. The Gorgeous eye make-up in the image featured above is by the guru of glam – Napoleon Perdis.

Sahasrara: The Crown Chakra

There is very little that can be said about Sahasrara or the Crown Chakra as this divine energy may only be described as Bliss. Sahasrara translates in English to 1000 petalled lotus and is considered to be the Chakra of pure consciousness. The element associated with this chakra is thought.

It is at the Crown Chakra we are able to experience our highest form of connection with spirituality. Broadly speaking some may refer to this energy as god, or as the source. Each religion or belief system varies, but the essence of this connection is the same. At the Crown we experience energy that some may refer to as a higher power. It is with this connection that divine wisdom drips into our being leading us towards ‘enlightenment’.

Up until this point, I have only featured Aussie Designers; however when it comes to divine head pieces celebrating the bliss associated with the Crown Chakra you cannot go past Nicole Richie’s label, House of Harlow.

I truly love the look and feel of these headpieces, creating an angel like aura which reminds me of the elf lady Galadriel played by Kate Blanchett in Lord of the Rings. As I mentioned before it is so hard to capture the bliss of the crown chakra, other than to say If I could wear a prayer, I would wear a House of Harlow Head piece.

As I mentioned the element associated with the Crown Chakra is the element of thought. There have been various studies into how our thoughts alter our reality and that to become a master of your destiny; you must learn to actively control those thought patterns. In doing this you are able to reprogram your belief systems, thus attracting positive experiences.

A great way to remind yourself to ‘stay positive’ is to wear affirmations and symbols which align you with your dreams, desires and sense of Inner peace. I have been a huge fan of Cat Hammil for quite a few years now, and by simply wearing an affirmation, I remind myself to remain positive and stay focussed. Given our thoughts are creating our reality, I think an affirmation charm is well worth the investment – and Cats Jewellery is stunning.

I have so enjoyed creating this fashionable journey through the Chakras. On a final note next time you get dressed, have a think about what energy you need, and how you can dress to create that vibe. Style is a wonderful thing and travels through time and space beyond the needles, threads a fabrics. Ask yourself, What are you saying to the world?

Love , Light and Kisses. Becs. xx

I am currently digesting a world of change. I am not talking about small changes either. I have just moved state, moved into a new home and I am currently hunting for a new job!

Whist I would like to think of change as a simple process, that I have gracefully stepped into, the reality is that despite puffing up my chest, strutting my stuff, and convincing myself that everything is ‘just fine’, I have often felt like a vegetarian standing in a butcher shop! Yup, that’s right….that person trying so hard to fit into an environment where they really just don’t fit in.

All of this ‘newness’ has definitely been exciting, but has also involved a very interesting process of deconstructing who I thought I was, in becoming a new person, a person I haven’t actually met yet. Sounds like a profound moment of transformation, if you’re one of those people who are comfortable dancing stark naked in the middle of the Melbourne Cricket Ground…and naked is exactly how I have been feeling!

Before I was naked, this is what I wore….

Rebecca, Age 30. Lives in Sydney’s Inner West. Works as an Account Manager, and minds her boss’s poodle when she is on holidays. Loves great coffee and knows where to find it. Can navigate her way through the city without a GPS and where she lives does not determine what sporting team to follow. Weekends are packed with an excess of social engagements with friends she has known since she was 12, and when in need of some love, mum is just around the corner.

And how things have changed….

Still Rebecca…but this time dancing stark naked. The friends that once defined my social life cease to exist in Melbourne, leading me to become a serial friend dater. That’s right…..always meeting someone new for coffee to decide whether we fit, are we compatible, or could you be my friend? This friend dating also extends to doctor dating, dentist dating, coffee shop dating and off course job dating….a series of decisions defining ‘Who I am’ for the next five years or more!!

I actually didn’t realise until now how much I relied on my job in Sydney for self-esteem. My job made me feel good about who I was, and my life felt meaningful. Likewise, my friends and family built a network of love around me which became the silent pulse of safety in my world. If these people love me, and are a part of my life then I can ‘love me and feel happiness’, yet the irony is that none of these beautiful things actually constitute ‘who I am’, and thank god they don’t.

Once these masks of who we think we should be are torn away, we are often (like myself) left feeling vulnerable. If I am not Rebecca the successful sales person, or Rebecca the wife, the daughter or the friend then who am I?? Where do I belong?

I remember one day walking into the coffee shop around the corner from my place which is a daily ritual, and I started to completely freak out! OMG….What would I say if the barista wanted to chat about what I did for work, or wanted to know more about who I was?

Based on my judgement call (and over active imagination) I was convinced the barista thought I was a total loser. I could hear his thoughts….’This girl has time for mid morning coffee and is wearing old grungy jeans…clearly has no job and relies on her husband to pay the bills. Luckily she keeps busy being walked up the road by a hyper active staffy (dog) whose most important objective in life is to chase after a tennis ball. That must be mentally stimulating !’

The barista never actually asked me about what I did (wounding my equally over active ego), and instead chatted about the freezing weather and if I wanted sugar in my coffee!! It seems I was far more concerned with what other people thought about me, rather than considering the coffee guy is only interested in whether I wanted a cappuccino or a flat white…..because in his world, that is how he defines who I am. I am the ‘Skim Flat White’ girl with the dog!!

Okay…so my point in relaying the coffee story is that we all view the world with a different lenses, and if we simply define ourselves by our job, the people we associate with, we are in essence giving away our authentic power and our unique self to an ‘external’ influence.

This brings me back to the Chakras, because understanding our personal energy is the art of ‘awakening’ our authentic self. Like seven spinning wind mills the energy generated by the Chakras, comes from within just as the windmill creates energy from air. Each Chakra is energised by positive internal belief systems, and healing patterns….so my question for you is this.

Do you define your sense of self by external influences, or is your sense of self defined by the anatomy of your personal belief systems? Either way you look at it…the latter is true because our spiritual body, just like our physical body is only ever working towards the awakening of your most authentic and beautiful self. The spiritual essence of who we are, can only come from within.

We build self-esteem and self-worth not because of what we do or where we live, but by what we believe we are worth in this universe. Our heart does not open simply because we are in love; our heart becomes open because we are love. Our soul doesn’t need a church to have faith, and our eyes do not need sight, in order to dream.

The universe and all of creation exists inside of us, and it is here we are able to find all the tools we need in the never-ending discovery of oneself. Good Luck on this most amazing journey.

Namaste…..Becs. xx

I have been studying the chakras for over ten years now, and in that time I have come across some amazing products for learning about the chakras, experiencing the chakras or for quite simply wearing your chakras !! I love discovering new products, practices and people who are passionate about the ‘rainbow of life’, so with that in mind I wanted to share with you three of my favourite chakra things !!

ChakraLove Item One:

Wheels of Life: A Users Guide to the Chakra System – Anodea Judith

I was first introduced to this book when I was only 19….with the instructions to treat this book as the bible of the chakra system. Over ten years later, I have not found a chakra book that even comes close to Wheels of Life and I pick this book up daily to research different elements of the chakra system.

Anodea Judith’s classic introduction to the chakra system has sold well over 200,000 copies, and has been updated and expanded in that time. Be prepared and ready for this book. Wheels of Life will take you on a powerful journey through the chakra system teaching you how to explore and balance your own chakras using poetic meditations, and basic yoga movements. This really is a MUST HAVE book for anyone looking to further their study of the chakras…the content is amazing. Please CLICK HERE to purchase this book.

“Wheels of Life is the most significant and influential book on the chakras ever written.” — John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga

ChakraLove Item Two:

Chakradance…. Rhythm for the Soul

I was first introduced to Chakradance at the age of 18, and it completely changed my life forever.

So what is Chakradance?? To use Natalie’s graceful words….

“Blending free-flowing movements with particular frequencies of sound, Chakradance will free the energy in your body and open you to a deeper experience of life. A healing dance/movement practice that draws on a fusion of philosophies and musical styles, Chakradance aims to restore health to our chakras – the energy centres that, in Eastern tradition, are the gateways to integrating mind, body and spirit”

I have included a short video below so that you can check out Chakradance for yourself….but for anyone looking to do deep healing work on the Chakras, I have not found any practice more powerful. Chakradance involves a very deep healing process but for those of you who are ready and willing to dive into the unconscious, and heal……I 100% guarantee that Chakradance will bring about transformation in your life.

Okay…so whilst Chakradance would LOVE to have a teacher in every state of the world,(and the Chakradance team are working towards that – CLICK HERE if you’re interested !!), at this stage you will be able to find classes available in Australia, the USA and some parts of Europe. If you are interested in Chakradance, and cant find a local class or would rather learn about Chakradance at home don’t despair !! Chakradance is available on Itunes as a guided 15 minute dance journey through your 7 chakras, or you can purchase the Chakradance CD,Book or the divine Chakradance oil if you CLICK HERE:

ChakraLove Item Three:

DAISY Chakra Bracelet

“i think everything in life is art. what you do. how you dress. the way you love someone, and how you talk. your smile and your personality. what you believe in, and all your dreams. the way you drink your tea. how you decorate your home. or party. your grocery list. the food you make. how your writing looks. and the way you feel. life is art.” – Author Unknown

With the change of season upon us once again, today I felt inspired to explore the seven elements of the chakras through the creative lenses of a camera. In this week’s ‘ChakraKollection’ I wanted to create, play and explore the world around us, through opening the world within us.

Earth is the element associated with the Base Chakra. This energy of earth and the base chakra is related to our sense of solidarity in the world. This in particular addresses issues related to our ability to survive and feel safe. This ‘vibration’ is very much associated with our sense of gravity. It is the downward force that keeps us grounded and physically connected to the earth beneath the souls of our feet.

At the Sacral Chakra we move from the denser energy of earth, to the fluid and flowing vibration associated with the element of water.

The second chakra is associated with our emotions and sexual energy. Like these more intimate parts of who we are, water is continually in a state of change, moving from freezing, to boiling, from still to raging.

It is through the power of water we are able to find flow in our lives, and surrender.

And as we journey through the seven chakras it is at the third chakra, we begin to ignite the flames of soul, and tune in to our sense of internal power, purpose and our right to stand out in the world.

In the same way physical matter is transformed to ash in a burning fire, our spirit is also purified by the power of fire. Through igniting the flames of the solar plexus chakra we able to leave the past behind, quite literally burning that which challenges us through inner strength, courage and commitment.

Summoning the Sun – Matt the Samurai

In the lower chakras we have travelled through the elements of earth, water and fire. It is at the Heart Chakra we float into the energy of air. Like the sounds of the flute, air has a light and expansive quality.

Air is symbolic of unconditional love gently providing us with our spiritual life force as we inhale and exhale. It is within the heart that we find a sense of joy, contentment and gratitude.

Like the heart chakra air, is also the bridge between our physical world and the higher dimensions. When we experience air we are flying or floating through the landscapes of our spiritual heart beat.

The Bubble

Unlike the lower 4 chakras the throat chakra is not represented by a physical element. At Vissudha we open our senses to the element associated with ether, which is sound. Whilst sound cannot be seen, it plays a vital role in our ability to express who we are through expression.

Without sound we are not able to hear ourselves (both physically and spiritually), and we are not able to listen to others. It is also through listening at the throat chakra level, we begin to open ourselves up to world of spiritual energy, awakening our physical senses to the presence of psychic energies. Just like sound, the world of spirit can often be felt or heard, before it can be seen.

“Sound bounces colorful water and paint off of a plane allowing photographers to capture these ridiculously dopetacular spectacles” – Sneak Hype

At the third eye chakra, we quite literally open our eyes the world of dreams and imagination. Creative expression is born here, as we allow ourselves to imagine our wildest dreams and creations.

It is no surprise that the element associated with the third eye chakras is vision. It is through the vision found in the 3rd Eye chakra that we are able to experience memories, see dreams and visualise goals for the future. It is through ‘seeing’ with our third eye, that we are able to gain clarity, insight and clear vision in our lives.

The Crown Chakra can only de described as bliss and it is very difficult to express such a high frequency with any one word, other than to say it is a very personal experience of your divinity. The only element that could possibly be associated with a frequency so high, is the speed of thought.

There have been millions of studies looking at the power of thought, with regards to how what we think, affects our reality. It is this infinite energy that can mould and direct the creation of our lives, at the speed of light, and it is through sending this energy from the crown of our head, to the base chakra they we are able to manifest our thoughts into our physical reality.

It is also through ‘stilling’ our thoughts, that we are able to quieten the mind, anabling us to reach up and out into the universe connecting with our higher spiritual being.
