Is there any better way to begin, jazzy, soulful, a classic in every way, its an absolute must have in any music lovers collection. The album comprises the soundtrack to a re-released version of the ground-breaking 1929 silent documentary film, Man with a Movie Camera  from Russian director Dziga Vertov. The Cinematic Orchestra were commissioned to record the score to play as the opening event in Porto, Portugal’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2001. The performance was met with the highest possible praise, and is still presented around the globe at various festivals. I was lucky enough, whilst interning at NinjaTune, (the record label the orchestra are signed to) to see them perform the album live at the Roundhouse in Camden. It was truly stunning, and possibly the best live show i have ever attended. A personal favourite tune has to be the last track on the album, and a song that also features on Cinematic’s previous album ‘Everyday’, the song called ‘All Things’ is mesmeric, beautifully created and comprises the perfect meloncholy mood for a winter’s walk. On Man With a Movie Camera ‘All Things’ is played as an instrumental version, but on the previous album, accompanying vocals are majestically presented by the one and only, a true British hip hop great, Roots Manuva, who is signed to the sub label of NinjaTune, Big Dada, a label that Wiley has also released albums under. Como já dissemos aqui, dia 15 de dezembro, o Cinematic Orchestra estará no Rio, no Oi Casagrandre e trará “Man with a movie Camera” para o Multiplicidade. Os onze integrantes do grupo apresentarão ao vivo a trilha sonora feita para o documentário russo homônimo, mudo, de 1929.

This is a very delayed blog! Went to see The Cinematic Orchestra at the Roundhouse on the 6th Nov 09 – and despite being misinformed that there’d be cushions on the floor, it was still an amazing experience. It was a bit more classy compared to most gigs I’ve been to. And the crowd were the older sort.
They explained that they’d be playing their album “Man With a Movie Camera” while accompanying a silent Russian silent film, also called “Man With a Movie Camera” (with no storyline).
It was a very trippy experience, and at the same time very moving. It was nearing the end of the gig and everybody was in high spirits listening to some of their older songs, once the film had ended. And it was as if God himself answered my prayers when I heard an introduction for Roots Manuva. He joined the Orchestra on stage, in a swanky white suit. It sent the audience into a euphoric state, I saw business men, bums, grandpas and teenagers… all chanting along with Manuva. Such an amazing gig. If you ever get the chance to see them, jump at it! I’ll leave you with some poor quality pictures I took, and a youtube clip I found of it!

Dieser Song gehört bei mir definitiv ins Genre “Best songs ever”, was man ja nicht gerade von vielen Songs behaupten kann. Es gibt eine Menge guter Titel aber nur eine Hand voll Perlen sind dabei.Schauts euch an und geniesst.

Is a statement, and certainly a feeling I know many of my friends, anyone college-age, and even myself can feel or say sometimes.  Please understand me, trying to “figure out life” is something that there seems to be so much pressure put on by parents, teachers, and even random people that strangely pop into your life that have no investment in you, but feel the need to tell you to “get the ball rolling and get your life together.”  The great question “what are you going to do with your life” is a huge one; and strangely becomes overwhelming after highschool.  I hope this post gives someone struggling with a job, school, or life that doesn’t seem to be going as planned.  One man said, “Life isnt about a title or position, but about who you are at the end of life.”  I know that life for me hasn’t always turned out as planned, and no dream is always as sweet as it is when it is in your head, but when life gets hard please remember to “look to the Author and Finisher of our faith,” Jesus, and be reminded that he is writing your story..our story… and the story of the world… Check out this post from Relevant, it deals with this discussion….

Also, be reminded, God isn’t “upstairs” trying to make life harder for you for no reason, neither did He create you to live a life to seek money, big houses, multiple cars, and fancy clothes.  He didn’t create us to meet a certain quota, or pray a certain amount of time a day to fill some sort of ”spiritual time sheet” as if to appease him.  Jesus came to set us free from living lives that live up to other’s standards, and freedom from feeling like we have to “do it all” and keep up with the Jones’.  Jesus-life is about peace, grace, humility, and realizing that its ok to be yourself, without apology.  So if it is a hard time, be patient, because Jesus is working on you, to make you more life him.. and that is always beautiful.  Even in the midst of job hunting, college, school work, and simply life.

Em 1929, quando o russo Dziga Vertov lançou o revolucionário filme mudo “The man with a moving camera”, mal podia imaginar que no século seguinte, mais precisamente em 2003, seu filme ganharia expressão sonora. Os responsáveis por essa releitura são os músicos que compõe The Cinematic Orchestra, que lançaram em DVD o filme original sobreposto por uma trilha exclusiva. O grupo mistura jazz, eletrônico e diversos outros elementos capazes de criar um elo permanente entre música e imagem.

O resultado foi indiscutivelmente um enorme sucesso, que se refletiu no esgotamento de DVD’s a venda, transformando-os em ícones de colecionador.

Mas para alegria de todos e felicidade geral da multiplicidade que nos acompanha: dia 15 de dezembro The Cinematic Orchestra estará no Rio para uma única apresentação de The man with a moving camera. Edição final do Multiplicidade 2009, no Oi Casagrande, para fechar com chave de ouro. Esperamos ansiosamente todos lá. Assim que os ingressos estiverem à venda divulgaremos aqui no blog, e quem sabe não rolam umas promos…

Je suis retombé dessus en découvrant une formation anglaise carrément époustouflante. Il parait que cet orchestre est hyper connu. J’en ai jamais entendu parler, vous pouvez jeter les pierres : The Cinematic Orchestra (ici, c’est Eska qui chante avec eux).

Le bonhomme s’appelle Patrick Watson. Il est plutôt pas mal brillant dans son genre. Si je te parle de lui, c’est qu’il commence à faire très froid ici. Je sais… tu vois pas trop bien le rapport. Il y a beaucoup de SDF dans le centre-ville de Montréal. Et il fait -7 °C ce soir. Je ne sais pas si il y a des foyers pour les sans-abris, des centres d’accueil, je ne sais pas comment ça se passe pour eux. Dormir dehors par -10 dans un sac de couchage d’un an d’âge, sur le béton. Je remercie je-sais-pas-qui pour ne pas faire l’expérience de cela tous les soirs.

Filme russo de 1929 ganha trilha sonora da Cinematic Orchestra e vira DVD

O que são alguns meses de atraso perto de 75 anos de silêncio? Se o querido zine-leitor se perdeu em meio a zilhões de lançamentos musicais no segundo semestre de 2003, não fique triste. Só andróides com Inteligência Artificial e muita memória RAM poderiam acompanhar TUDO o que chega às lojas. Portanto, junte-se a nós e seja, enfim, apresentado a um dos melhores discos (e DVDs) do ano passado: “Man with a movie camera”, no qual o precioso grupo inglês The Cinematic Orchestra “musicou” um clássico do cinema, o filme (mudo) russo “Man with a movie camera”, dirigido pelo polonês Dziga Vertov em 1929.

O disco e o DVD (da sagaz Ninja Tune) são importados, mas o filme, com o nome “Um homem com uma câmera”, chegou aqui em DVD da Continental (esgotado na maior parte dos sites de venda) e na caixa “O cinema revolucionário soviético”.

No filme, Vertov, um dos cineastas preferidos de Lênin, dá um start no cinema-verdade e retrata um dia na outrora poderosa União Soviética. Dividido em seis temas, ele mostra os trabalhadores nas ruas, nas fábricas e em seus momentos de lazer. São imagens deslumbrantes, com cortes, telas divididas e outras técnicas de edição que estavam muito além do seu tempo. Pergunte ao seu amigo cinéfilo que ele vai te explicar isso bem melhor.

Além de todas as suas qualidades, “Man with a movie camera” tem ritmo. E é justamente aí que entra a Cinematic Orchestra.

Há ritmo e repetição no filme. E isso é fantástico – declarou em entrevista à BBC o DJ, produtor e fundador da banda, J. Swinscoe.

Ora, a Cinematic Orchestra ganhou fama e passou a ser cultuada por causa do seu som, ahn, cinematográfico, espaçoso, aberto, meio soul, meio dark. Misturando músicos “de verdade” com samplers e scratches, o CO é uma banda de jazz eletrônico. Um jazz bem free, diga-se de passagem.

E foi com essa credencial que o grupo foi chamado pelos organizadores do Festival de Cinema do Porto, em 1999, para essa ambiciosa aventura: botar som no silêncio e fazer uma apresentação ao vivo acompanhando as imagens do filme.

Ficávamos dentro do estúdio olhando o filme numa televisão bem pequena enquanto buscávamos inspiração para as músicas – conta Swinscoe numa entrevista incluída no DVD.

O resultado ficou tão bom que, além de palmas, o show ganhou disco, DVD e gerou uma turnê na qual o CO está até agora. Para quem não tem milhas ou milhares de reais acumulados e não pode ir atrás da banda, a melhor opção é mesmo ver o DVD.

Ele traz o filme, na íntegra, já com o som do CO ao fundo, num casamento perfeito: o som grandioso da Cinematic Orchestra inserido nas imagens de Vertov como se tivesse nascido assim, seja no enterro “embalado” pela atmosfera sombria de “Evolution” ou nas batidas quebradas de “Work it” acompanhando o frenético ritmo de trabalho das operárias russas.

“Man with a movie camera”, o DVD, traz também trechos de um show da Cinematic Orchestra em Londres e o vídeo de “All that you give” (do disco-irmão “Every day”, com a participação da lendária cantora Fontella Bass). O silêncio nunca soou tão bem.

Po sześciu latach “klejnot w koronie” twórczości The Cinematic Orchestra, album “Man With A Movie Camera” doczekał się wznowienia w postaci wydawnictwa DVD. Nad albumem pieczę trzymała oczywiście słynna wytwórnia Ninja Tune.  Materiał “Man In A Movie Camera” powstał po koniec lat 90. do radzieckiego filmu niemego pod tym samym tytułem, w reżyserii Dziga Vertova. Pokaz obrazu z 1929 roku wraz z muzyką TCO miał uświetnić obchody nadania miastu Porto miana Europejskiego Miasta Kultury 2000.

An oldie but goodie. This comes off the first of two legendary live sets that DJ Food and DK did for Solid Steel, “Now, Listen!” Live, mind you. The EQ seems a little strange at first, but when The Cinematic Orchestra’s bass line dips low at 0:33, it all makes sense. This is an all time classic Jeru flow, smoothly contextualized here. But the best part of this track, in my mind, is the last minute or so. Around 2:45, everything fades into the oh so jazzy “Beached” by Neotropic, only to drop back the Orchestra’s drums at 3:26 for a crushing, tantalizingly brief ride out. The crude fade at the end comes courtesy of Mister Track; apologies in advance.

Gênero: Jazz

Com um disco de estréia simplismente estrondoso, foi lançado em 1999 pela Ninja Tune. Traz melodias complexas e sempre tocantes. É bom lembrar do solo de bateria ao final de Ode To The Big Sea e a impecável harmonia de Channel 1 Suite. Existem discos que vem e trazem consigo a força de fazer a si próprio repensar os valores musicais em termos de quantidade de sonoridades não exploradas mundo afora; esse é um deles.

Ruszyło Sacrum Profanum. W wielkiej hali hutniczej ocynowni The Cinematic Orchestra przyjęci jak wielka gwiazda. Zbyt pochopne to standing ovation, choć trzeba przyznać, że przynudzali miło. Szczególnie w rozimprowizowanych partiach bisów.

Chris Cunningham zgwałcił mnie przez oczy i uszy, ale na kolana nie posłał. Sprawny, efektowny, mało odkrywczy. Będę miał koszmary. Najpewniej nagi, cycaty Hitler z wodogłowiem.

Bardziej jednak przeraża mnie to, że jesień się zaczęła.

Koncert The Cinematic Orchestra, inaugurujący 7. Festiwal Sacrum Profanum będzie transmitowany przez Program 3 Polskiego Radia – w niedzielę, 13 września, o godz. 20.05.

Tegoroczna edycja imprezy dedykowana jest najważniejszym twórcom i zjawiskom muzycznym Wielkiej Brytanii XX wieku. To największa w Polsce, ale też w Europie promocja angielskiego repertuaru współczesnego: koncerty dzieł tak uznanych kompozytorów, jak Julian Anderson, Jonathan Harvey, Peter Maxwell Davies, Oliver Knussen, Harrisona Birtwistle, George Benjamin, Brian Ferneyhough czy Mark Anthony Turnage. W Krakowie wykonają je czołowi interpretatorzy muzyki najnowszej: The Cinematic Orchestra, London Sinfo­nietta, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain i Asko|Schönberg. Festiwal ujmie w efektowną klamrę wielkie show geniusza efektów specjalnych, reżysera Chrisa Cunnighama, a zamkną dwa ekskluzywne koncerty legendarnego eksperymentatora syntetycznych brzmień Aphex Twina.

Festiwal Sacrum Profanum organizowany już po raz 7. przez Krakowskie Biuro Festiwalowe to międzynarodowy projekt, który w ciągu siedmiu lat zyskał status jednego z najciekawszych wydarzeń muzycznych Europy. Formuła Festiwalu oparta jest na prezentacji muzyki w odniesieniu do przecinających się w muzyce XX wieku motywów sacrum i profanum, a także do kryterium geograficznego. Wokół tych osi koncentrują się poszczególne edycje festiwalu poświęcone kolejno muzyce: Wiednia, Francji, Rosji, USA, Niemiec. Festiwal, rekomendowany m.in. przez prestiżowy magazyn muzyczny “Gramophone”, cieszy się uznaniem krytyków i publiczności. W ubiegłorocznej edycji uczestniczyło blisko 20 tysięcy widzów, z czego ponad 10 tysięcy zgromadziły trzy wyjątkowe koncerty legendy muzyki elektronicznej – zespołu Krafwterk. Festiwalowe wydarzenia relacjonowało ponad 160 dziennikarzy z Polski i zagranicy, w tym przedstawicieli tak prestiżowych redakcji, jak m.in. The Cinematic Orchestra es un grupo inglés de música fundado en 1999 por Jason Swinscoe, cuyo estilo se puede aproximar al jazz, pero fusionan diversos elementos.

Las grabaciones del conjunto se publican en el sello independiente Ninja Tune. Además, de Jason Swinscoe, la banda está formada por el ex miembro de DJ Food, PC (Patrick Carpenter) a los platos; Tom Chant, quien toca el saxofón y el teclado; el bajista Phil France y el batería Daniel Howard. Fueron miembros de la banda Luke Flowers y T. Daniel Howard como baterías, Jamie Coleman como trompeta, y Alex James tocando el piano.

En sus comienzos Swinscoe creó un grupo llamado Crabladder en 1990, mientras estudiaba Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Cardiff, publicando un sencillo en su propio sello discográfico Power Tools. En 1994, Swinscoe tuvo un espacio en Heart FM, una emisora de radio en el sur de Londres.

El primer disco de The Cinematic Orchestra, Motion, se publicó en 1999. La banda logró repercusión mundial al componer la música para el documental de Dziga Vertov de 1929 El hombre con la cámara para el acto inaugural de Ciudad europea de la cultura de 2001 en Oporto.

El último disco de la banda, Ma Fleur, salió al mercado el 7 de mayo de 2007.

No estoy siendo muy armonioso al actualizar mi blog una vez al mes, pero la verdad hay que hacerse el tiempo para todo, y como estoy comenzando el semestre, nada mejor que algo fresquito. Como este semestre comienza con algo más de sol, los ánimos están más ricos. Más ganas de hacer ejercicio, y más hambre de conocimiento para saborear el compromiso competitivo de la sociedad, lo cual no es tan mala después de todo, considerando una suerte de meritocracia al no poseer de recursos necesarios para poder solventar las necesidades de cada uno de nosotros. Hoy estoy hambriento de poder compartir con ustedes o conmigo mismo esta delicia de música. Esto es como disfrutar de un día de invierno metido en tu cama viendo una película, junto a un café, leche (a su gusto). Llegar cansado o cansada del trabajo y que tu pareja te abrace y te recuerde que aún estás vivo y que tienes sangre en el cuerpo. Como tu primer beso o cuando te caes y te das una ducha.

Todo comenzó en 1999 en Inglaterra cuando Jason Swinscoe quiso hacer algo distinto al incorporar a sus líneas musicales un sintetizador, resultando así un acid jazz lúdico, medianamente progresivo, y con su mínima pincelada psicodélica, considerando además las voces intensas y sensuales de Frontella Bass y Mc Roots Manuva.
Esta banda comenzó grabando “Motion” en 1999, el cuál tomó por sorpresa al acid jazz el cual estaba pasando ya a la historia de los olvidados y nunca consagrados estilos manipulados por los medios, mezclando la ola disco, dejando de lado el soul y los orígenes del jazz (Jamiroquai e Incognito). Este disco transformaba una nueva generación del acid jazz, consagrándolo como un estilo más vanguardista, al hacer uso de sintetizadores, pero nunca olvidando los vientos, cuerdas y percusiones.
Llega el 2002 con “Every Day”, el disco orquestal, puliendo un poco más de lo que sería el estilo final.
Para finalizar en el 2003 con “Man With A Movie Camara” que se utilizó como suerte de soundtrack para el documental del director Dziga Vertov.

Ninja Tunes have over the years provided some fantastic gems, and with the combination of Fink and remix duties given to The Cinematic Orchestra on Fink’s stunning – “Sort Of Revolution” – from the album of the same name – the label certainly haven’t failed neither sonically or timing wise. This is as if it was tailored for your sunsets.

I tested this while in the Balearics, and peoples jaws are dropping faster than you can say “Another Campari Orange!” once this comes floating out the speakers at you.

Just one advice………..remember to breath!
