Heinrich Böll faz parte da minha lista de leituras obrigatórias. Só o conheci recentemente quando a Estação Liberdade lançou O Anjo Silencioso, relato da Alemanha zero-hora. Pontos de vista de um palhaço é mais avançado no tempo, pega uma Alemanha já reconstruída como sociedade e explora a influência da religião nessa sociedade. A maior crítica é voltada para as pessoas que apoiavam o nazismo, mandando os próprios filhos à guerra e fazendo crianças de dez anos de idade segurarem bazucas em campos de treinamento. As mesmas pessoas, depois da guerra, mudaram completamente o discurso. Bastou entrar e sair da igreja para enterrar o passado. Se antes tinham o poder de torturar alguém e decidir seu destino com a suástica no braço, agora faziam isso com a religião. Se você não segue os preceitos do catolicismo, você é um pária da sociedade. Mudou o teatro, os personagens se adaptaram. É um livro rico. Enquanto Schnier – o palhaço – remói suas lembranças de vida, conhecemos a situação da Alemanha em um olhar de dentro para fora, o que geralmente só encontramos em documentários. Pontos de vista de um palhaço causou grande impacto na época, fazendo a sociedade repensar o papel da igreja católica alemã.

Heinrich Böll is in my mandatory reading list. I met my first Böll recently when the publisher Estação Liberdade (Brazil) released The Silent Angel, talking about Germany at zero-hour. The Clown advances in time to tells its story in Germany reconstructed as a society, exploring the religion influence in this society. The main criticism is aimed at people who supported Nazism, sending their own children to the war, forcing children to use bazookas and grenades in training camps. The same people, after the war, completely changed their positions. You go in and out of a church and now you have a different mind. With Nazism they have the power to torture and decide the destiny of others. Now, they use religion to do it. If you don’t follow the catholicism rules, you are a pariah in society. The theater play has changed; the characters are the same, just adapted. The Clown is a rich book. While Schnier – the clown – mulls over memories of his life, we find out about the situation of Germany through an insider look that we generally find only in documentaries. The Clown provoked a great impact when published, making society rethink the role of the German catholic church.
