Future jayj and I were hanging out the other day yapping bout how great it is to rock with someone with such great taste when we both came up (at the same time(which is gettin kinda cheesey)) that future jayj should write for the blog when he’s in the area!
He also plays banjo way better than I do so that’s good to know and we play together when we can. He said I learn the “killer new riffs” from my future self. That kinda blows my mind because we can’t figure out where the new riffs came from. It’s just a cycle. I start to learn and future me comes back in time to teach me the new stuff that he learned from future, future me. Can ya follow that?

Anyways, the space/time continuum is a really hard thing to take to. Future jayj has it dialed in like a year deep bush guide dials in to a free phone sex line on that island that just barely gets phone recep. He is sooo cool.

I need a few more parts and a bit more time. It seems that time isn’t the problem as much lately because I reckon I’ll beable do jumps soon and can get lost time back. This is the schematic that controlls the vending portion of the time processor.

I need another time re-mapper to test it and about 1000 wire nuts. Baby steps back to the future. I’ll soon do 1 minute jumps then days, years, ect.

She pulls out a wad of my hair.  I am so pissed!  I scratch her hard across the face and blood spurts out her nose.  Hope I slit it open!  A little more ugly won’t hurt her.  I’d bite her gut open, but after all, everyone’s watching and we are sisters.  She lunges at my gut.  Hey, no fair!  I knee her away and knock her off balance with a solid kick on the chin.  She staggers, and I’m instantly on top of her, forcing her to the ground.  Pinning her down, I snarl in her ear, and she turns her head away in submission.  I’m in control here.

Stupid bitch, starting a fight she can’t win just because I went after her precious hunk.  I could give her a good slash to the neck right now, and she’d be a goner.  But no, we’re family.  That wouldn’t go down well with the rest.  I nip her tail as I walk proudly away.  Even in battle I always remember what mama taught us: “Prey is prey.  Wolves are family.”

Last night
I was invited to fish the snoopy rod invitational on the olyimpic pennisula this friday. I have never fished for steelhead with gear before. How could a humble samurai say no. too much fun and I hope the bait washes off and I really hope it don’t make it hurt when I pee. My hatchery steelhead karma will most definatly take a hit on this one.

The Code mentions “the dirty” many times. I found this writing to be most interesting. I have had this debate many times among the clan.

I fish for “the one” because it makes me feel the challenge I need to hold proper.
That is “the why”.

That is a combination of “how and why” but essential to “the why”.

I read it as one should not follow anothers new trail but instead pinch out their own or said one will get chopped the funk up. But I feel as though I have not full mastery the verse yet.  Let us disscuss?

2009: The Code di Mimi Leder

In onda in questi giorni su Ski, presentato con lo slogan “Due star al servizio di un inedito thriller mozzafiato”.

Non basta la presenza di attori famosi e di un valido regista per realizzare un buon prodotto e assicurarsi il successo. Prova ne è questo The Code che doveva essere presentato nelle sale americane ad aprile… La produzione saggiamente vi ha rinunciato preferendo (a giugno) l’uscita direttamente in DVD (scelta attuata anche da altri  Paesi tra cui Inghilterra, Olanda, Italia…).

Trama poco originale con colpo di scena già visto mille volte, finale inutilmente sdolcinato e mieloso che era da evitare, ritmo latitante, mancanza assoluta di tensione e suspense, scarso coinvolgimento… caratterizzano questo film dalla sceneggiatura zoppicante e dalla piatta regia, film che non cattura l’attenzione e non emoziona minimamente e che si fa (forse) apprezzare unicamente per l’uso particolare della fotografia. I protagonisti si limitano ad onorare il contratto e non appaiono impegnarsi più di tanto. Spiace vedere due grandi come Morgan Freeman e Rade Serbedzija coinvolti in una operazione così modesta. Radha Mitchell è una bella presenza ma non altro. Antonio Banderas è vistosamente fuori parte in un ruolo chiaramente scritto per un attore molto più giovane.

Molti i riferimenti a veri e propri gioielli del passato (Topkapi, Rififi, The Score…) ma più che omaggi sembrano tentativi falliti di imitarne la struttura e l’andamento.

Il risultato finale (pessimo) è ulteriormente guastato dalla love story (noiosa e ripetiva) non ben amalgamata col resto.

The illustrious Marissa Mayer, Vice President at Google, was on Charlie Rose last night to talk about (disclaimer: I didn’t watch nearly this entire hour of footage) interesting things, including the future of search.

It was interesting for our engineers to see that early index and see how far we’ve come in ten years. But when you think about what would be the perfect search engine, what is an answer as opposed to a result? Why are we handing you just links and URLs? You know, what does it mean to try and synthesize a video or an image or a diagram that better explains your answer or maybe even grabs facts from all the different pages and helps you do comparisons. There’s just a lot of different things we can do. And that doesn’t even happen into how do people search, from their phones, from their cars, how do we get more mobile, how do we deal with so many different interface challenges?

With one in four adults having been to the spa, spas are for everyone. They are considered an integral part in a modern healthy lifestyle. With those numbers on the rise, it’s more important than ever for spa-goers to be educated about their rights and responsibilities once they enter a spa. In fact, the ISPA has created the Code of Conduct in partnership with the Resort Hotel Association to enhance spa-goer’s comfort level during their spa experiences. The Code of Conduct is available from the ISPA website in English, French, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

The Code outlines the rights and responsibilities of spa guests to ensure the spa experience is conducted in a professional manner. The code is especially helpful to those who are new to the spa experience and spa industry as it describes spa etiquette and helps manage guests’ expectations.

To begin, it’s imperative spa guests communicate their preferences, expectations, and concerns. “Consumers want to be free to express their expectations and concerns and feel safe in the process,” said ISPA Chairman Jim Root. “With the development of this new code, both parties are able to share in the responsibility of creating an engaging and empowering spa experience.” Those request and concerns should be met in a helpful and professional manner by spa staff.

It’s also imperative guests disclose complete and accurate health information and reasons for their visit. Some therapies or products when combined with a guest’s medical regimen or condition could have adverse effects. Full disclosure also allows therapists to gain insights into a guest’s needs as well. For instance, those spa goers who may have received physical therapy for chronic pain or injuries can greatly benefit from the services of a massage therapist who is made aware of specific physical needs. They may even offer to provide focused attention on areas of the body which are causing discomfort. Spas have a wide range of mineral essential-products whose use can result in a dramatic reduction of pain in some cases. Guests can also expect that their disclosed health information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

It should be a given that during their visit, spa-goers should treat staff and other guests with courtesy and respect. Belligerent guests can not be tolerated in an environment that was designed to provide stress relief to its guests. It is the right of the spa staff to remove anyone who is not adhering to the spa’s published policies and procedures.

Guests of the spa have the right to a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. If this is not the case, or if a guest has any concerns, they also have the right to stop a treatment at any time for any reason.

Consideration, dignity and respect should be hallmarks of any certified spa. Trained spa staff should always respectfully conduct themselves according to the treatment protocols, as well as the spa’s policies and procedures.

For those who are new to the spa experience, it is also acceptable to ask questions about the spa experience, its services, as well as the training, licensing and certification of the spa. An educated spa goer will have a much more enjoyable time than those who feel unsure about their rights at the spa. ‘Friend’ is a word that is bandied around and beaten to death daily. There are so many “definitions” and “connotations” but right now, I want to deal with SISTAHFRIENDS.

What is a Sister-friend?

That is the person you call when you need to laugh or cry. That is the person who has your back no matter what; who stand up for you in public and screams that you’re right even though behind closed doors, she’s telling you what a mess you’ve made.

A true sister-friend will drive, fly, ride any number of hours to be at your side in your time of need, celebration, crisis, whatever.

This is the woman whose number is #1 in your speed dial – before the hubby or boyfriend.

Basically, a real sister-friend is another woman’s Rock and Strong-Tower in all aspects of life. She is the woman who says ‘I’m prayin’ for you girl,’ and really means it.

I take the time to list the aforementioned in order to state that this is by no means a one-way street. For everything she does for you, you do the same for her.

Now …

It has come to my attention that there are some of us women out there who seem to think that they need only be on the recipient side and not the giving. As my mother says, “THERE IS JUST AS MUCH JOY TO BE HAD IN SAYING ‘YOU’RE WELCOME’ AS THERE IS IN SAYING ‘THANK YOU’.”

I want to know if it’s just a black thing or is it across the board with women who have no qualms in milking a friendship bone-dry and are not willing to put in the same time…

I’m there for you when you graduate from college, but you miss my important recital. I’m there for you when you have major surgery, but you’re not around when I graduate.

I’m talking about the women who love the support I can give but begrudge me the bits of happiness that come my way; but then they say with pride no less that they are your sistahfriend?

Bitch please! If this is the way that you treat me – you’re supposed nearest and dearest – what would you do to the people you dislike?

My Sisters … my Sistahs …

Take the time to look at your relationships with the important women in your life. Sit down and talk it out, work it out, pray it out before it comes to a parting of the ways.

Have you received more than you’ve given? Have you taken advantage? Have you used? Be honest with yourself. Apologize for your oversights … and should you be on the receiving end, then be gracious.

If it is that you are on the receiving end of the abuse and you have in all honesty come to the end of your rope, you have all right, according to the UNWRITTEN CODE OF SISTAHOOD, to cut the cords and live to fight another day.

Holla at ya girl!

The following is a review of some of the most recent Molson Canadian advertising campaigns. Starting off, of course with the most popular of all, the “I Am Canadian” campaign.

Molson Canadian is not the greatest beer out there. It’s not even the greatest Canadian beer. In fact, in my opinion, it’s actually a pretty lousy beer. Yet, it’s appropriately named “Canadian”, which naturally gives them the opportunity to do some really great advertising work in relating to the rest of the country.

They have the opportunity to instill that sense of national pride in Canadians. And that’s exactly what they did with the “I Am Canadian” campaign that made so many beer drinking shell out the dollars for a mediocre beer. It was advertising at it’s finest.

Here is the famous “The Rant” spot, below.

The commercial was and still is amazing. It is so effective at hitting the core of Canadian pride, especially debunking a lot of the “American” stereotypes of Canadians. The spot was spoofed countless times, on comedy shows, at hockey games. It was the biggest commercial in Canada at the time.

The spot was followed up by a few commercials of Americans making fun of Canadians with their generic stereotypes and the Canadians responding by hockey fighting or sicking their pet beavers on them. Definitely inferior spots, but still along the same lines of “The Rant”.

Then, in 2005, Molson merged with Coors. This was actually very big in the news at the time because it meant that the “I Am Canadian” brand, was now American. And with that, they dumped their famous tag line and went in a completely different direction.

The “It Starts Here” campaign was born. And it couldn’t live up to the advertising before it. Check out the spot, below.

I’d actually forgotten that this campaign existed. Simply because it fails to connect to the Canadian audience, not only in comparison to “The Rant” commercial, but just in general. It was very forgettable and Molson Canadian pretty much fell off the map in terms of their advertising.

Until finally, last year they woke up and realized what they’d done wrong. As I stated up above, Molson Canadian almost has a built-in message of Canadian pride and identity. Why were they not playing this up? Finally, they released “The Code” campaign.

Molson Canadian had gone back to what made the “I Am Canadian” campaign so successful. In fact, “The Rant” commercial was criticized a bit for being about what Canada is not, instead of what Canada is. Well, that is not the case with “The Code” campaign. In terms of what it means to be Canadian, what they left out in “The Rant” spot they have defined in this campaign.

And it works.

It taps into Canadian culture, connects with their audience, and despite the beer itself not being very good, it insists on being part of our identity. It took them several years in order to come back around, but come around they did.

I figure it’s time now, after the opening episode of Showtime’s fourth season of “Dexter” to talk about him.

I’ve come on this boat late. Over the last three weeks or so, we’ve watched the first three seasons of Dexter at a rather rapid pace. Perhaps it’s seeing it in this way, in this speeded-up version that has exposed all that I see.

Dexter Morgan is an all around good egg and a serial killer. His foster father, Harry, a cop, taught him how to channel his urges to kill. Harry developed a Code for Dexter so that he only kills people who deserve it.

Dexter lives by this Code and it helps him make all kinds of decisions about what is right and wrong. We should all have such a strong belief system. Thanks to Harry’s teachings Dexter is good with kids and a dutiful boyfriend to his somewhat damaged girlfriend. He’s also a team player and cheerful co-worker in his job as blood spatter expert at the Miami Metro Police Department.

The narration he gives of his internal dialog keeps us connected to him. We get a good view of how he thinks. With each exciting adventure and revelations, Dexter learns more about himself and about the Code Harry so painstakingly taught him. Since Harry is long-dead, Dexter must work with the Code, shaping it and molding it to fit himself and the situation at hand.

Rule No 1 is Don’t Get Caught. This forces Dexter to live very much in the present moment, being aware and careful. Sometimes I think there’s also a piece about going with your urges and living by your passions, but I’m not sure about that.

With all that exposure to blood and death, Dexter has an ability to remain detached. It’s a rare scene in which Dexter’s calm is disturbed. He retains an air of Zen about him.

The people in Dexter’s life, though more distant without an ear on their thoughts, seem to be changing as the seasons go on, softening and growing. The scripts use them to show how people are affected by the movements of the characters.

There’s a sense humor and lightness around all this killing. It’s not really as gory as you’d think. The cast is quirky and unusual. I get tired of cardboard, predictable characters. These have depth and with one guest star each season, he interactions of the cast are kept surprising and fresh.

Dexter himself, whether through the performance of Michael C. Hall or the writers, is a multi-dimensional character. Inside the head of a serial killer is a unique perspective, to say the least. Dexter is a truly new and intriguing character. Couple that with the wonderful ramping of tension, easing off and ramping up again, surprises around each corner of this engaging storytelling, it’s no wonder this is a popular series. Makes me want to read the books!

Helgen började bra på fredagen då jag packade in bebis och vagn för att åka till Jarlaberg på middag. Lilla A skötte sig exemplariskt (som vanligt när just J och C är i närheten) och somnade för natten vid 22-snåret i sin vagn!

Vi vuxna åt en väldigt god rödingpanna, dvs rödingfiléer, stekta med hummerfond, kräftstjärtar, kantareller och dill. Till det serverades kokt potatis. Förrätten bestod av avokado, creme fraiche, purjolök och en helsikes massa löjrom. Jag börjar gilla löjrommen!

Som vanligt så ägnade vi oss åt pensionärsnöjet att spela spel. När och Fjärran hamnade på tapeten just denna kväll, länge såg det ut som att E skulle ta hem segern, men när det verkligen gällde sprang C om honom och vann. Eftersom E varit så osolidarisk och gett J några extra poäng under tävlingens gång så var det till min glädje att just hon tog hem spelet!  När klockan började närma sig 02 packade vi oss återigen in i bilen och styrde kosan hem.

Redan klockan 09 var jag uppe (ur sängen dvs), för på lördagsförmiddagen skulle vi nämligen få besök. Lilla A:s farfar och faster K skulle komma på besök. Eftersom han egentligen skulle befinna sig i Malaysia vid det här laget och inte hinna träffa A förrän när vi kommer ner till jul så passade han på när han nu var hemma under en jobbresa. Och faster K hängde naturligtvis med, eftersom det är dyrt att åka mellan V-ås och Nacka! Iaf om man som K tyvärr inte har ett jobb!

Vi fick se bilder från deras lägenhet i KL, jag kan väl erkänna att just lägenheten gör mig detsamma. Jag längtar till poolen. Och solen. Fast framförallt till värmen! Återigen insåg vi att vi måste få tummen ur och lista ut vart vi ska resa däromkring med. Någon som har tips på bra semesterställen i Malaysia eller omnejd? Vi har ca 3 veckor att förlägga på annan plats än KL….

Avslutningsvis körde vi en lunch på lokalplacet här, för min del blev det en god om än väldigt onyttig plankstek. Mumsi!

Strax efter lunch dök J och C upp igen. Vi tog oss en promenad ner till Glasbrukssjön som ligger här i närheten. Tyvärr tog vi fel väg, så det gick inte att komma fram till själva stranden med barnvagnen, men det är förmodligen här jag kommer hänga nästa sommar. Dvs, om solen behagar att göra oss sällskap i Sverige.

Vi såg till att genomföra en av årets förmodade sista grillningar till kvällen, som följdes upp av några mer eller mindre bra filmer. “Marley och Jag” samt “Thick as thieves”. Den första är bra – rent av fin. Den andra är  bland det sämsta jag har sett på länge, trots Morgan Freeman och Antonio Banderas i huvudrollerna.  Lilla A slocknade redan efter middagen i famnen hos J och fick sig sen en påfyllning vid strax innan 21. Det var det sista jag såg av henne förrän hon väckte oss vid 04.30 på morgonen.

Warning: This post gives a look into the underage drinking scene. Yup, school is almost in session and that means end of the summer binging. Though I feel dumb admitting it, I – Sofia Johnson – attended an absolutely raging “drinking party” last night. You experienced folk out there – don’t worry, it’s been one of many. But speaking from a reporters perspective, I must strip away any kind of cool air that surrounds these gatherings and look at the occasion with a completely naked eye.

So at this party, there were many scandalous occurrences, and I must admit there are a few that don’t quite stick in my memory. However one that does hold a strong grip on my brain is pretty classic: Boy wants girl. Girl’s friend used to be with boy. Girl’s friend still wants boy. Girl doesn’t really want boy, but girl doesn’t like that girl’s friend won’t let girl pursue an open opportunity … Okay, so maybe classic isn’t the best word to describe it.

I’ll explain more thoroughly – The night starts off with a simple game of Kings (a party favorite). I came a little late, since my friend Matt (names have been changed) was driving me over and has a habit for tardiness. So I sat down next to this kid Paul, as this was the only seat available. And so the story commences.

As the night lingers on, my friend Jenny comes up to me. Jenny and Paul were on and off for a year, but finally called it quits after Paul rejected Jenny upon returning home from a three month trip to Cambodia.  So Jenny comes up to me, and is all …

“Ohmygod, Paul totally wants you.”

So I, in response, totally reject the idea of myself and Paul ever happening. You don’t understand – Paul is this crazy Italian kid, and completely not my type. So I was being completely serious in my response.

However, as the night progresses forward and a few more drinks find themselves to my lips, I somehow end up near Paul quite a lot. And suddenly he’s stroking my leg. And Jenny is glaring at me as if I just passionately made out with her main squeeze. Except these facial ques make ZERO sense, seeing as Jenny actually rips on Paul every day, saying how much she hates him.

So this is where Sofia gets stuck. What is the true “Code” when it comes to exes? Not just for the potential newcomers, but also for people like Jenny. Obviously I wouldn’t sacrifice my friendship with Jenny for this boy who I barely find appealing to the eye. However, Jenny isn’t giving me any breathing space or even the slightest window of opportunity. When two people have been broken up for months, and claim hatred, shouldn’t that be an indication that they have let go?

Upholding any kind of code is a struggle. I feel like in love, lust, and friendship, rules and regulations become hard to monitor and uphold. On the one hand, I like establishing The Code in order to have that sense of safety and security in your friends. But at the same time, having The Code in place makes it even more common for trust to be broken and friendships ruined. At least without boundaries, no one can step out of line. But without the line, each person must draw their own in their minds, making it impossible to predict where any other person has placed their line. Everything is risky.

In the meantime, I’m going to maintain my swift Sofia self. I don’t call myself an undercover reporter for nothing. Let Miss Johnson get her toes a little bit wet, but she certainly won’t let herself drown. A little drama now and then can’t hurt

La revista Free Software Magazine republicó hace unos días un tributo a los héroes del software libre, un artículo muy recomendable.

También cabe mencionar que en estos momentos la BBC esta trabajando en un nuevo documental llamado La Revolución Digital (Digital Revolution) el cual constará de 4 episodios de 1 hr, en donde se tocarán varios temas alrededor de Internet; su origen, medios para compartir y diseminar conocimiento y mucho más.

Maybe ten years ago, Thick as Thieves wouldn’t be a direct-to-DVD release (it’s actually a hit, which is kind of scary). Ten years ago, Mimi Leder hadn’t bombed out with Pay It Forward, Antonio Banderas movies–most of them–were still opening in theaters. Morgan Freeman usually gets even a limited release out of his more vanity projects.

But Thick as Thieves (or The Code, the also inexplicable title for DVD) isn’t a vanity project. It’s an attempt at a heist movie with a couple film personalities in it, putting it in the same sub-genre as films like Desperate Measures and, I don’t know, something else with Andy Garcia in it after it was clear he wasn’t going to break through.

Leder’s a terrible director. She was always bad–her positive buzz was based entirely, as I recall, on her “ER” experience–but now she does fast-forwarded shots and all sorts of other malarky for a movie with seventy-two year-old Freeman and forty-nine year-old Banderas. The film doesn’t acknowledge their ages, but since one is supposed to watch it with them in mind as actors not characters, it’s inevitable.

The script’s dumb. Ted Humphrey’s script’s desperate for flavor and has none.

The acting’s fine. Freeman is solid (is he ever bad? I didn’t see those Ashley Judd movies), Banderas is fine. Radha Mitchell is okay. Rade Serbedzija and Robert Forster both pretend they’re in a real movie.

Still, an inoffensive time killer.

Freeman and Banderas are a couple of old thieves trying to crack the code.

The Code (a.k.a. Thick as Thieves) stars Morgan Freeman as an experienced art thief named Keith Ripley who finds himself heavily in debt with the Russian mob. In order to free himself from his debt, Ripley persuades novice thief Gabriel Martin (Antonio Banderas) to help him pull off one last heist.

The Code is your average heist film and I do mean average. This type of movie has been done before and in many cases, done better. The story and acting are okay. At least they were good enough to keep me interested. Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman. At this point in his career, he plays the old, wise man very well – whether he’s playing a criminal or the trustworthy protagonist or the creepy grandpa who’s having an affair with his step-grand daughter (Really Morgan? Really?). You get what you expect from his performance in The Code as well. Antonio Banderas also gives a respectable performance. It has been a while since I had seen him in a movie and he does an okay job here. It’s good to see Banderas can do more than just provide the voice of a cartoon cat although at times during this film I had visions of Puss In Boots attempting to pull of the heist. Like I said before, this is your average heist film and the story isn’t anything spectacular. Though there are some twists and turns it’s also somewhat predictable.

The Code was not the greatest heist movie, nor was it the worst. There was enough here to at least keep me engaged throughout the film. A good portion of the movie was predictable and the acting didn’t blow me away but there were a few twists in the plot that caught me by surprise making The Code worth my while. If this is the type of film that interests you, check it out. You may be entertained.

Η Μίμι Λέντερ (“Ολέθρια Σύγκρουση”) σκηνοθετεί τον βραβευμένο με Όσκαρ Μόργκαν Φρίμαν (“Χωρίς Ίχνη”), τον Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας (“Ο Θρύλος του Ζορό”), τη Ράντα Μίτσελ (“Μελίντα & Μελίντα”) και τον Ρέιντ Σερμπεντζίγια (“Ο Εκτελεστής”), σε μια ταινία με πολλή δράση και συνεχείς ανατροπές.

Η Σκηνοθέτιδα

Η Μίμι Λέντερ γεννήθηκε το 1952 στη Νέα Υόρκη και είναι η πρώτη γυναίκα που έγινε δεκτή για σπουδές στο American Film Institute. Ξεκίνησε την καριέρα της, ως σκηνοθέτιδα, με την τηλεοπτική σειρά “L.A. Law”. Έχει σκηνοθετήσει επεισόδια από διάφορες τηλεοπτικές σειρές, καθώς και πολλές τηλεταινίες. Το 1995 κέρδισε ένα Έμι με την σκηνοθεσία του επεισοδίου “Love’s Labor Lost” για τη θρυλική σειρά “ER”.

Η πρώτη κινηματογραφική ταινία την οποία σκηνοθέτησε ήταν “Ο Ειρηνοποιός”, με τους Τζορτζ Κλούνι και Νικόλ Κίντμαν, η οποία ήταν και η πρώτη κυκλοφορία από την νεοσύστατη τότε Dreamworks. Έχει σκηνοθετήσει επίσης το blockbuster “Ολέθρια Σύγκρουση” και το δράμα “Χωρίς Αντάλλαγμα”.

Οι Ηθοποιοί

Ο Μόργκαν Φρίμαν γεννήθηκε το 1937 στο Μέμφις. Ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του στην υποκριτική συμμετέχοντας σε θεατρικές παραστάσεις στην Νέα Υόρκη, ενώ σύντομα εμφανίστηκε στην τηλεόραση με την παιδική εκπομπή “The Electric Company”. Ένας από τους πιο καταξιωμένους ηθοποιούς στο Χόλιγουντ, έχει προταθεί τρεις φορές για Όσκαρ με τις ερμηνείες του στην αστυνομική περιπέτεια “Το Δόκανο”, τη συγκινητική κομεντί “Ο Σοφέρ της Κυρίας Ντέιζι” και το δράμα “Τελευταία Έξοδος: Ρίτα Χέιγουορθ”. Απέσπασε τελικά το πολυπόθητο αγαλματίδιο (Β’ Ανδρικού Ρόλου). το 2005 για την ταινία “Million Dollar Baby”, στο οποίο συνεργάστηκε για δεύτερη φορά με τον Κλιντ Ίστγουντ, μετά το γουέστερν “Οι Ασυγχώρητοι”.

Το βιογραφικό του περιλαμβάνει επίσης τις ταινίες “Se7en”, “Amistad”, “Ολέθρια Σύγκρουση”, “Βασικός Ύποπτος Για Φόνο”, “Νοσοκόμα Μπέτι”, “Batman Begins”, “Danny the Dog”, “An Unfinished Life”, “Edison”, “Το Στοίχημα του Σλέβιν”, “Νώε για μια Βδομάδα”, “The Contract”, “Πάνω Απ’ Όλα ο Έρωτας”, “Gone Baby Gone”, “Wanted” και “The Dark Knight”. Προσεχώς θα τον δούμε στην ταινία “The Human Factor”, στην οποία λαμβάνει για τρίτη φορά σκηνοθετικές οδηγίες από τον Κλιντ Ίστγουντ.

Ο Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας γεννήθηκε το 1960 στην Μάλαγα, σπούδασε στην τοπική Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών και ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του στην ηθοποιία ως μέλος ενός μικρού τοπικού θιάσου. Στη συνέχεια μετακόμισε στην Μαδρίτη όπου έγινε μέλος στο Εθνικό Θέατρο της Ισπανίας. Το 1982, ο Μπαντέρας έκανε την πρώτη του κινηματογραφική εμφάνιση στην ταινία “Λαβύρινθος του Πάθους” του σκηνοθέτη/σεναριογράφου Πέδρο Αλμοδόβαρ. Η συνεργασία του με τον Αλμοδόβαρ συνεχίστηκε με τις ταινίες “Matador”, “Ο Νόμος του Πόθου”, “Γυναίκες στα Πρόθυρα Νευρικής Κρίσης” και “Δέσε Με”. Η διεθνής επιτυχία των ταινιών αυτών σύστησε τον Μπαντέρας στο Χόλιγουντ.

Έχοντας μεταπηδήσει πλέον από τον ισπανικό κινηματογράφο στη βιομηχανία του Χόλιγουντ, ο Μπαντέρας έχει συμμετάσχει σε ταινίες όπως “The Mambo Kings”, “Το Σπίτι των Πνευμάτων”, “Philadelphia”, “Συνέντευξη Με Έναν Βρικόλακα”, “Desperado”, “Four Rooms”, “Assassins”, “Evita”, “The Mask of Zorro”, “Spy Kids”, “Frida”, “Once Upon A Time In Mexico” και “Νιώσε το Ρυθμό”. Έχει δανείσει επίσης τη φωνή του στον χαρακτήρα Puss in Boots για τις ταινίες κινουμένων σχεδίων “Shrek 2” και “Shrek the Third”, κάτι που θα πρέπει να κάνει ξανά για το πολυαναμενόμενο sequel “Shrek Goes Fourth”. Προσεχώς θα τον δούμε στο νέο project του Γούντι Άλεν, δίπλα στους Άντονι Χόπκινς, Ναόμι Ουότς, Τζος Μπρόλιν και Φρίντα Πίντο.

Η Ράντα Μίτσελ γεννήθηκε το 1973 στην Αυστραλία και τράβηξε την προσοχή κοινού και κινηματογραφικής βιομηχανίας με την εμφάνισή της στο θρίλερ επιστημονικής φαντασίας “Απέραντο Σκοτάδι” με τον Βιν Ντίζελ. Είναι μια ταχύτατα ανερχόμενη πρωταγωνίστρια και έχει χτίσει ήδη ένα δυνατό βιογραφικό με ταινίες όπως “Nobody’s Baby”, “Phone Booth”, “Man On Fire”, “Ψάχνοντας τη Χώρα του Ποτέ”, “Melinda and Melinda”, “Silent Hill”, “Πάνω Απ’ Όλα ο Έρωτας”, “Rogue” και “Ο Χένρι Πουλ Είναι Εδώ”. Προσεχώς θα τη δούμε στην ταινία “Surrogates”, δίπλα στον Μπρους Ουίλις.

Λίγα Λόγια για την Παραγωγή

Η ταινία “Εντιμότατοι Διαρρήκτες” είναι η ιστορία ενός βετεράνου κλέφτη, που επιστρατεύει τη βοήθεια ενός νέου απατεώνα για μια τελευταία δουλειά, με την οποία θα ξεπληρώσει τα χρέη του στη ρωσική Μαφία. Είναι η πρώτη φορά που συνεργάζονται οι Μόργκαν Φρίμαν και Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας. “Αποτελούν κι οι δύο μια dream team” δηλώνει με ενθουσιασμό η σκηνοθέτιδα Μίμι Λέντερ. “Έλαβα κι από τους δυο υπέροχες ιδέες και συνεισφορές. Ήταν απόλαυση η συνεργασία μαζί τους. Είχα την τύχη να δουλεύω με εξαιρετικούς ηθοποιούς στην ταινία αυτή.”

Ο Μόργκαν Φρίμαν υποδύεται τον Κιθ Ρίπλεϊ, ο οποίος είναι στην πραγματικότητα ο αντιήρωας της ιστορίας. “Είναι ένας πρώτης τάξεως κλέφτης που οργανώνει ληστείες εδώ και πολύ καιρό σε πολλά μέρη του κόσμου” αναφέρει ο Φρίμαν. “Είναι πολύ έμπειρος, γνώστης, ευφυής και περιζήτητος από την Αστυνομία.” Ο Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας υποδύεται τον νεότερο απατεώνα Γκάμπριελ, ο οποίος είναι κατά κάποιο τρόπο η άλλη πλευρά του φαινομενικά ευθύ χαρακτήρα του Φρίμαν. Η προσωπικότητά του έχει διάφορα επίπεδα, τα οποία αποκαλύπτονται σταδιακά καθώς εξελίσσεται η ληστεία. “Σχεδιάζουμε να κλέψουμε ένα ιδιαίτερα πολύτιμο αντικείμενο και καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της ταινίας συνεργαζόμαστε για τον σκοπό αυτό” λέει ο Μπαντέρας. “Παράλληλα όμως παρουσιάζονται διάφορα περιστατικά μεταξύ μας. Αφορά τα ψέματα, τις σχέσεις και το να ανακαλύπτεις ποια είναι η αλήθεια και ποιο το ψέμα.”

Ο ρόλος της Μίτσελ ήταν ο πιο δύσκολος για τους υπεύθυνους του casting, διότι η φύση του συγκεκριμένου χαρακτήρα έχει δύο πλευρές. “Είναι πολύ σαρκαστική, άτακτη και ποτέ δεν ξέρεις από πού προέρχεται” εξηγεί η Μίτσελ. “Είναι μια Ρωσίδα που ζει στην Αμερική απ’ ότι ξέρουμε και απ’ όσα μας λέει, ενώ έχει μπλεχτεί σε μια απάτη. Οι γονείς της είναι γκάνγκστερς και εκείνη σκέφτεται να αφήσει πίσω της τον κόσμο της παρανομίας αλλά, καθώς εξελίσσεται η ιστορία, βρίσκεται όλο και πιο βαθιά μπλεγμένη στην απάτη.”

Το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της φωτογραφίας πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Βουλγαρία αλλά γυρίστηκαν και μερικές σημαντικές σκηνές στην Νέα Υόρκη. Οι παραγωγοί χρησιμοποίησαν το Μπράιτον Μπιτς στο Μρούκλιν, ενώ γυρίστηκε και μια σκηνή στον υπόγειο του Μανχάταν, στο ύφος αστυνομικών ταινιών των ΄70s, όπως το “The French Connection”. “Είναι το είδος ταινίας που αναβιώνει την κλασική ατμόσφαιρα που συνηθίζαμε να βλέπουμε σε ταινίες των ΄70s αλλά και παλαιότερα” προσθέτει ο Μπαντέρας.

Παρά το γνώριμο θέμα της, η ταινία “Εντιμότατοι Διαρρήκτες” εκπλήσσει με πολλές ανατροπές και πολύ-επίπεδη πλοκή. “Είναι μια ταινία ληστείας αλλά αφορά επίσης τον έρωτα και την προδοσία” δηλώνει η Μίμι Λέντερ. “Προκαλώντας το κοινό να περιμένει το απροσδόκητο, η ταινία σε βάζει συνέχεια στη διαδικασία του να μαντεύεις τι θα γίνει μετά” προσθέτει η Μίτσελ.

“Μια σκηνή ξεκινά με έναν τρόπο και τελειώνει τελείως διαφορετικά” σύμφωνα με τον παραγωγό Άβι Λέρνερ. “Αναθεωρείς συνεχώς τον τρόπο που βλέπεις τους χαρακτήρες, κάτι που είναι συναρπαστικό και διασκεδαστικό. Η ταινία αυτή είναι η προσωποποίηση της διασκέδασης και το βασικό της συστατικό είναι η εξαιρετική χημεία ανάμεσα σε δύο σημαντικούς ηθοποιούς.”

ΚΡΙΤΙΚΕΣ

Θ.ΚΟΥΤΣΟΓΙΑΝΝΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ-LIFO

Ο Κιθ Ρίπλεϊ, ένας χαλαρός και πανούργος αρχικλέφτης, ζει σύμφωνα με τον Κώδικα των Κλεφτών: κάνε τη δουλειά, προστάτευσε το συνεργάτη σου, μη δειλιάσεις και ποτέ μη συνεργαστείς με την αστυνομία. Ο Κιθ έχει βάλει στο μάτι τα δύο τελευταία αυγά Faberge που φτιάχτηκαν ποτέ, τα οποία φυλάσσονται σε μια απόρθητη αποθήκη, ώστε να μπορέσει να εξοφλήσει το χρέος του στη ρώσικη μαφία. Για την πολύπλοκη αυτή ληστεία συνεργάζεται με τον Τζακ, έναν νεαρό κλέφτη, και με την πανέμορφη αλλά και ευφυή Άλεξ. Όλα δείχνουν να πηγαίνουν σύμφωνα με το σχέδιο, μέχρι που κάποιος σπάει τον Κώδικα.

Η Μίμι Λέντερ, μια σκηνοθέτις με τεχνική κατάρτιση και μηδενική προσωπικότητα (βλέπε Ολέθρια Σύγκρουση) μπλέκει τη ρώσικη μαφία, μια απαγωγή, την αστυνομία και τα αυγά των Ρομανόφ γύρω από μια τυπική, καλοφτιαγμένη αλλά τόσο χιλιοειδωμένη σκηνή διάρρηξης μέσα σε θησαυροφυλάκιο – που, για να είμαστε ειλικρινείς, μπάζει από αληθοφάνεια και θα μπορούσε να εκθέσει τους δράστες τουλάχιστον τρεις φορές κατά τη διάρκεια της πραγματοποίησής της. Υπάρχει μια ιδέα στο φιλμ, που την εκφράζει σε μια του ατάκα ο Ράντε Σερμπέτζια (υποδύεται στον κακοποιό), αυτή του ταπεινού μετανάστη που αλλάζει επάγγελμα και κρύβεται πίσω από το άλλοθι της μη αφομοίωσής του, αλλά η ταινία δεν χαμπαριάζει από τίποτε άλλο πλην της ωρολογιακής της δράσης. Ο Φρίμαν παίζει με την ευπρόσδεκτη και γενναιόδωρη οικονομία του ως αριστοκράτης του περιθωρίου (σαν understated Πίτερ Ο Τουλ, ακόμη κι όταν αποκαλεί τον Τζακ «θλιβερό πούστη» σε μια κρίσιμη στιγμή) και ο Μπαντέρας, με τη συνηθισμένη, χαριτωμενίστικη, πεπατημένη ένταση. Και οι δύο καταφεύγουν σε ευκολίες και φαίνονται να υπνοβατούν με «κουτάκια» σε μια ταινία που διατρέχει το είδος που υπηρετεί, με πνεύμα συντηρητικό και βαθιά b.

ΣΠΥΡΟΣ ΘΩΜΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ-NOOZ.GR

Από το 2000 και το μετριότατο «Χωρίς Αντάλλαγμα» είχε να σκηνοθετήσει ταινία η Mimi Leder, απασχολούμενη έκτοτε αποκλειστικά στην τηλεόραση. Οι «Εντιμότατοι Διαρρήκτες», μια ταινία που βγήκε κατευθείαν σε DVD στην Αμερική, σίγουρα δεν είναι η θριαμβευτική επιστροφή της. Ακόμα και ως μια «εύκολη», ψυχαγωγική ταινία ληστείας, οι «Εντιμότατοι Διαρρήκτες» δεν μπορούν να συγκριθούν με τους καλύτερούς τους αντίπαλους των τελευταίων ετών, όπως για παράδειγμα η «Συμμορία Των Έντεκα», αφού η εντελώς επίπεδη προσέγγισή τους και η παντελής απουσία κάποιου προσωπικού ύφους από τη Leder, τους καταντούν καθόλα βαρετούς. Το πρόβλημα, βέβαια, είναι ότι η ταινία δείχνει να παίρνει σοβαρά τον εαυτό της, με αποτέλεσμα να διογκώνονται τα μύρια προβλήματά της και να ενοχλούν από πολύ νωρίς. Η απουσία ενός έξυπνου σεναρίου σε μια ταινία με θέμα μια αδύνατη ληστεία και ένα σωρό ανατροπές θέτει τη βάση για να ακολουθήσουν όλα τα υπόλοιπα: κακογραμμένοι ρόλοι, ισχνές ερμηνείες, διεκπεραιωτική σκηνοθεσία. Αδιάφορη ταινία, δηλαδή.

I. ΖΟΥΜΠΟΥΛΑΚΗΣ-ΤΟ ΒΗΜΑ

Στα ενδιαφέροντα στοιχεία αυτής της ταινίας δεν ανήκει ούτε η πόζα του Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας σε ρόλο μεσήλικα latin lover ούτε η «σούπερ» ανατροπή στην πλοκή της ιστορίας, που ακολουθεί το χρονικό μιας από τις πιο πληκτικές διαρρήξεις στα χρονικά του κινηματογράφου. Αν έλειπε δε και ο Μόργκαν Φρίμαν (φωτογραφία)- σταθερή εγγύηση ακόμη και σε ταινίες β΄ διαλογής- μάλλον θα είχαμε φύγει από τη μέση. Για να μην αναφερθούμε στις αφέλειες περί ρωσικής επανάστασης…

Π.ΚΑΓΙΟΣ-ΤΑ ΝΕΑ

Με συνεχείς αναφορές στο «Ριφιφί», το «Τοπ Καπί» και τον Ζυλ Ντασσέν, οι «Εντιμότατοι διαρρήκτες» («Τhe code»), κινούνται στη μεριά των κοσμοπολίτικων γκανγκστερικών ταινιών με ανατροπέςείδος που κατέχει απ΄ έξω κι ανακατωτά το Χόλιγουντ. Βάζουν, λοιπόν, τον Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας (ρυτιδιάζει, αλλά ταλέντο δεν λέει να βάλει με τίποτα…) και τον Μόργκαν Φρίμαν (τι υπέροχος ηθοποιός, ακόμα κι εδώ!) να είναι δυο κλέφτες… περιωπής. Ο Μόργκαν Φρίμαν είναι ένας χαλαρός και πανούργος αρχικλέφτης που ζει σύμφωνα με τον Κώδικα των Κλεφτών: κάνε τη δουλειά, προστάτευσε τον συνεργάτη σου, μη δειλιάσεις και ποτέ μα ποτέ μη συνεργαστείς με την Αστυνομία. Αυτή τη φορά έχει βάλει στο μάτι τα δύο τελευταία αυγά Faberge, τα οποία φυλάσσονται σε μια απόρθητη αποθήκη. Για την πολύπλοκη αυτή ληστεία συνεργάζεται με τον Αντόνιο Μπαντέρας, έναν νεαρό και ριψοκίνδυνο κλέφτη. Όλα δείχνουν να πηγαίνουν σύμφωνα με το σχέδιο, μέχρι που κάποιος- ή κάποια- σπάει τον Κώδικα…

Τη σκηνοθεσία αυτής της τυπικής κοσμοπολίτικης γκανγκστερικής ταινίας την διεκπεραιώνει η Μίμι Λέντερ («Ολέθρια Σύγκρουση»). Μια ταινία για μια ευχάριστη καλοκαιρινή βραδιά.
