Many people wear contact lenses to change the way they look, and making the decision to change from

Many people wear contact lenses to change the way they look, and making the decision to change from eyeglasses to contact lenses probably took a long time to reach. The first encounter that a person has with contact lens colors is when they receive their first pair from the optometrist that completed the eye exam. The eye specialist chose the colors for those contact lenses, but other colored contact lens choices will be left up to the contact lens wearer in the future.

The type of contact lens that can be worn will depend on the results of the eye exam. An eye care specialist will fully explain the procedures for inserting the lenses in each eye and the care that will be needed to keep the contact lenses sanitized and ready for wear. The contact lens wearer will have certain choices to make at this time, because they can choose to enhance the color of the eyes they were born with, or change the color altogether by selecting a colored contact lens from the eye care specialist’s inventory.

Making the selection might be difficult for beginners because the choices are endless. The eye care specialist could say that the prescription is for bifocal contact lenses, or that the wearer must wear gas permeable contact lenses only. These contact lenses will need to be custom ordered to meet the special needs of the wearer and additional costs are incurred when some additional requirements must be met. The color choices in these styles could be very limited and if the prescription will allow a change, then the wearer can always consider other contact lens styles.

Some contact lenses require special perimeters to be met which will drive up the cost for contact lenses. When special orders are placed through the internet, most eye care companies will require that the contact lens customer fax a copy of the prescription to the facility to ensure that the order is delivered exactly as prescribed by a qualified optometrist. There is always room to add special notes and request colored lenses in a specific shade but at times this will not be possible and clear contact lens will be sent in a few days.

Some colored contact lenses will enhance the color of the eye, and other choices can be made to add a new radiance. There are color choices to be made that will turn the color of the eye into a mystical opaque color, and other contact lens brands will simply accent the color of the eye while leaving the lens portion that reaches the white portion of the eye with a clear film that makes the color selection unnoticeable to the naked eye.

People can change the color dimensions of their eyes to reflect the color of aqua found in the Caribbean or they can ensure that their eye color is the color of the Pacific in green or blue. A person can also dabble with contact lenses in colors of hazel or violet or they can go all out and explore the subtle differences that are available in contact lens colors by experimenting with lens colors of amethyst, grey, honey, true sapphire, turquoise, pure hazel, or a novelty lens that can be worn for spooky occasions such as Halloween.

Eyes are the organs of vision and therefore occupy a very prominent role in the functioning of the b

Eyes are the organs of vision and therefore occupy a very prominent role in the functioning of the body. Recently, many methods have emerged to change eye color and some of them change the eye color permanently. There are many reasons for desiring a change in the eye color and there are also several methods for the same. One of the most common reasons for eye color change is to look better during parties and other such events. The eye color also changes due to other factors such as age and exposure to sunlight. There are artificial methods to change one’s eye color such as surgeries and also colored contact lenses.

Many people also try to change their iris color. The iris is a pigmented layer that has colors. In spite of this layer containing many pigments, its color depends on melanin. The melanin found in the iris is slightly different from the melanin pigments found in the hair and skin. The iris color is described as eye color as the layer before the iris (the cornea) is transparent and the outer sclera is out of consideration as it is white and opaque. So changing eye color is actually only changing the iris color.

It is commonly mistaken that the melanin wholly influences the eye color or the iris color. This is totally wrong as this color cannot extend more than brown or black color and the other iris colors such as blue would become practically impossible. Melanin lies behind the iris and is yellowish brown to some shades of dark brown in color. Besides the regular brown or black iris, other colors are due to absorption as well as reflection from the stromal components. Blue is also a possible eye color. People with blue eyes can pass this to their offspring.

Sometimes certain eye colors appear very attractive. In such cases contact lenses can be used to conceal the natural eye color. This is done just for fun or excitement. Such changes are not necessary and are never recommended by any doctor. As with the development of technology and introduction of various machines, iris patterns can be analyzed automatically. This is one of the reasons that few of them have opted to colored contact lens or deliberately injure the iris with lasers. This is done to intentionally avert personal identification. However, there is no genetic determination for any such complex characteristics, as the significance is higher to iris color.

A bizarre color in both eyes is known as hererochromia. This is a case where one iris is unique from the other. Though it is rare in humans, it is an indication of optical disease such as chronic iris. This may transpire as a normal variation. Patches of varied colors in one iris is hardly found. Iris patterns with variations are commonly found in veterinary profession owing to interbreeding. This hererochromia is found among some horses. They may have brown, white as well as blue in the same eye, but without any eye disease.

That eye was willingly donated by an anonymous Korean lady. The operation was successful but she still cannot see thoroughly because it’s a bit blurred. After few days having her sight, she saw things that are not real some keep her wondering what does it mean. Even in dreams she saw tragedies, accident in fire and other painful unexplained incidents. No one believes her because of that visions. Later she discovered who donated the eye and investigated the history of it. She even see visions of the donor in mirrors. The only interesting part of the movie is – the donor only wants her to save people from a serious accident that will happen few yards away from them. That is the explosion of the gasoline tank because of the police-suspect chase and the traffic of vehicles may soon be burned. But she did save them all, but after doing so it also led her to be blind again as the explosion hits her eyes with tiny splinters of broken glasses from the car. The story gives the audience a thrill and interesting thoughts.

" width="300" height="400" />
I can only take so many pictures of churches and towers in a city before they all start looking the same.

I wanted to go to bed early last night, but the flat mates above me wanted to socialize. I feel like I ignore everybody enough as it is, so I obliged.

I had finaly got on a respectable schedule too, waking up around 10 am and going to bed before 2 am. That was broken last night.

I woke up this afternoon only to be pleasantly suprised by a clean and rearranged living room. My Japanese roommate is back from vacation and with his excess energy had attacked the falling apart apartment. He went to over 10 countries during the month and was in high spirits. He is an addict when it comes to travel. Every country is like another shot of heroine for a junkie. His high was contagious.

As soon as I walked out, the flat mates above me invited the third floor to eat lunch with them. It consisted of meat pie, couscous and bawdy jokes.

A good start to the day. It is particularly rainy, so I will probably stay in and study German.

London was more than fine. Comparing my first impressions of Dublin and London, I would much rather live in the later.

The activities were endless. I really enjoyed the west part of town where Rough Trade Records is located. Stands fill the area, selling anything from antique golf clubs to Black Sabbath records with bent corner sleeves.

I went with an American friend. We in turn met up with another American who is studying in Scotland. The two went back to Scotland on Sunday, but I stayed behind for two days. I really enjoyed my time alone. I was free to wander the streets and take the train to random stops based on the name of the station. I was very liberating and no matter where I went, there was something to see.

I did all the cliche London touristy things of course. Big Ben, the Eye and Tate art museums were all on my hit list. I particularly enjoyed the free art museums. At least 50-percent of my time was spent studying paintings and cocking my head at sculptures.

I will have a chance to go there again in December on my way to Paris with my girlfriend. I cannot wait to show her around.

I have been recently learning about my family history through a second cousin on Facebook. I met her once in Indiana when I was in my very early teens. She is now married with children.

I had heard vague notions that my family was from North Ireland, but now I have more specifics: names, dates, stories. According to her, My great great grandfather (I am not sure the appropriate amount of greats) Francis Bennie Stone was born in Ireland before 1790. She said he moved to Virginia and married an Indian maiden.

The presence of Native American blood was always a rumor in my family. If you look at my great uncles, you can clearly see it.

So, I guess my great great grandfather ran an “employment agency” as my cousin wrote in a hilarious euphemism for slave trading.

It seems my family is from Ulster. I just visited the area when I went to North Ireland. What a drab place.

I have been thinking about posting some relics from my old music blog on here. I was reading over some today and I think they should be shared again. I should also start writing new music articles. It would be good or me. Maybe, I will start inserting music critiques along with my day-to-day life occurrences.

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year. I love autumn anyway: the colours, leaves, bonfire night, soups, warm clothes… So, I figured that now I have a retro and vintage blog, I should have a suitable vintage Halloweeny post. Hence the updated header for a limited time only!

I’m heading out tomorrow night to Zombie Pride with my friends. Obviously, the theme is zombies, but we’ve decided to go as an 80s wedding party (keeping the retro spirit alive at the same time…). I ventured into Manchester today to look for my outfit as chief bridesmaid to the bride. I was having serious trouble in finding anything, but fortunately was saved by Ryan Vintage. It’s not quite a bridesmaid dress, but it is 80s, it is velvet, it is red and it does look quite good, if I do say so myself! I’m sure there will be pictures coming up soon once the event is over. I’m thinking we could recreate some 80s wedding album photos, before and after the zombie attack!

Anyway, one of my other errands today was to source some horror DVDs for the weekend for myself and Aidan to enjoy. He is running the very aptly named Hellrunner on Sunday (a gruelling half-marathon through mud, bogs and woods), so we’re planning to take it quite easy on Saturday. The plan is to go to a castle in the afternoon and then watch a scary DVD on saturday night. I bought two: ‘It’ and ‘The Eye’. ‘IT’ continues the 80s horror theme nicely I feel…

While I was in the queue at HMV, I spotted a book all about vintage Halloween adverts and pictures. I very nearly bought it; it was a very beautiful and appealing little book, and I am a book lover after all… However, reason took over and I realised I could just look on the internet instead. Which I did. And I found some beautifully vintage and Halloweeny pics which I couldn’t resist sharing…

I actually would love to make some costumes such as those in these pictures. The dress at the top of this post is gorgeous – look at the little pumpkin detail! I think next year I might push to have a vintage Halloween party…

Bat girl, perhaps?

Have you seen her owl headdress? And the woman in the first illustration, she’s got a very similar one. I wonder if that was a trend in a certain era? If ever that was an inspiration for a costume…

Pumpkins seem to be a bit of a theme from the Victorian era cartoons:

Actually, they seem to be a theme through the decades:

I don’t really understand the significance of the hot air balloon in this one, but I like it all the same:

Owls (yay!) seem to be a theme as well:

There’s a folk tale behind the use of a pumpkin, or Jack o’ Lantern here if you’re interested. I have my own folk tale of pumpkins, involving making soup, leaving the stringy bits in it and poorly tummies, but Aidan wouldn’t be too happy if I told you about that one here…

One of my boyfriend’s favourite films is ‘The Wicker Man’ and no doubt we will be watching it at some point again this year. It’s the perfect retro Halloween film: remote Scottish island, 1970s, Lord Summerisle, crafty looking people, pagan rituals, giant wicker offering… it’s got everything really. Don’t bother with the recent Hollywood remake though: like everything, the original is best.

I randomly found the following picture when I searched for ‘The Wicker Man’. Seems to fit nicely with the theme…

And here is Lord Summerisle himself; that bastion of retro horror – Christophere Lee.

Note the yellow poloneck – now if that isn’t retro, I don’t know what is…

Happy Halloween everybody!

Sydney: You know, when we first met, I didn’t think you were such an ass.
Paul: That’s because you didn’t know how to spot one.

Sydney (Alba) has been blind since she was a young child, but after receiving a corneal transplant, her vision is slowly restored. Only problem is, she starts to see some scary things that she doesn’t want to see. Her doctor (Nivola) is convinced that her brain is just having trouble sorting out all this new information it’s getting, but Sydney thinks there’s more to it than that.

Well, make no mistake, this is not a very good movie, but it’s not quite as bad as I thought it would be. It’s slickly made, has one or two quick moments that might make you jump (see: creepy, lunging lady in the restaurant), and Jessica Alba is surprisingly adequate in the lead role. It does, however, borrow heavily from other movies in tone and plot, and it sports a rather bleak outlook on the afterlife, where scary, growling, alien-like creatures are chomping at the bit to escort the newly dead off to who knows where.

There’s also the question of how exactly did these particular corneas end up in Sydney’s eyes? When we find out the fate of their previous owner, the believability level of her being a donor drops significantly.

The big finale had me flashing back to The Mothman Prophecies, another clunker of a movie, and then the very end of the movie left me rolling my eyes and saying something along the lines of “gee, thanks for the heartwarming after school special message.” Which reminds me, there’s badly written and delivered narration from Alba at the beginning and end of the movie. I’m not sure who thought this was a good idea, but they were wrong.

I must have had really low expectations if this review indicates that I liked it more than I thought I would. There were a few good moments (like Sydney seeing a picture of herself and being confused because that’s not who she sees in the mirror) and the acting is decent, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it as something worth seeing.

If strange things start happening to you, don’t even bother trying to tell other people about it because they will NEVER believe you.

10 – 3 because it just doesn’t make a lot of sense at times – 1 for not being very scary – .6 for a gosh awful last couple of mintues = 5.4

Two odd things happened this weekend. Well, maybe they’re not “odd” per se, but they were things that made me go, “Wha–?”

So first, two people in my social circle (writ large, as in “all the people I’ve ever met”) got engaged on exactly the same day. I know this because Facebook told me. Seeing two sets of photos including the usual “girl’s hand with ring” photo back-to-back in the newsfeed made me rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t suffering from exhaustion-induced double-vision or delirium. I believe that this underscores the necessity of my proposed moratorium on engagement, wedding, and baby-havin’ announcements.

Secondly, I was leaving the grocery store yesterday with a jug of dishwasher detergent in one hand and a bottle of cranberry juice in the other (Dr. Snarky’s special lady friend drinks Cape Codders while she’s reading anthropology), and I get the eye from a guy in the parking lot who’s a dead-ringer for Randy from That ’70s Show, except he’s wearing a maroon, lime green, pink, and blue argyle sweater. I have no words wherewith to explain this.

Odd weekend.

So let this be a lesson to you: if you give some dude the eye in the grocery store parking lot, he’s going to comment on your attire in a blog that nobody reads. Take that, Argyle Sweater Randy-Look-A-Like!

Cheers!

Balance has been achieved… for now. While I had the worst movie day a few days ago (read older blog post for reference) I am in the process of achieving balance with a good movie day today. I’m not quite balanced yet since it wasn’t THE BEST! (as opposed to THE WORST!), but seems like I’m getting there.

So what did you watch today? Tell us. TELL US!
Okay I’ll tell you.

This time on InShort:
Chaos Theory, The Eye and Young People Fucking.

Chaos Theory

I started my boring evening of with Chaos Theory, which is a nice little film starring Ryan Reynolds (who I usually only remember cos he was in Blade III with Jessica Biel). The film is about how easily and quickly your life can turn around without you even doing anything. Basically it’s about how life smacks you in the head with a baseball bat and how people cope with it. The Chaos Theory comes into play when the lead character, who always plans out everything through list-making, takes on a different approach to life – writing different options onto cue cards and then letting chance decide on his next course of action. Hence Chaos Theory. Well worth renting in my opinion.

————-

The Eye

Next was The Eye starring Jessica Alba. Now before you get your hopes up I only watched the American remake of the Japanese horror film and unfortunately the only good thing is Jessica Alba starring in it. Cheap scares, a predictable story and lengthy, repetitive passages don’t really make for a good film-night. At least not in my house. Only watch this if you’re a die-hard Jessica Alba fan. All others try and avoid it!

————-

Young People Fucking

The final film was one I was looking forward to see at the theater. A “little” Canadian film called Young People Fucking, written and directed by Stargate Atlantis writer Martin Gero (which I only realized after the credits started rolling). This is a very interesting film, chronicling one night for five different pairings of young people trying to have sex. It’s made up like a documentary or instructional film, separated into several passages. The film goes from Prelude over Foreplay and Sex to Interlude, Orgasm and Afterglow. That should give you a pretty good idea of what you’ll see.
The acting is great. I had never seen any of these actors in anything else before. If you don’t mind seeing people have sex on screen go and rent this now! Oh and Carly Pope is fucking hot.

Once upon a time, long, long ago the Unites States was filled with creativity, imagination and innov

Once upon a time, long, long ago the Unites States was filled with creativity, imagination and innovation. We landed on the moon before the Russians, propelled cars to new heights and we were even number one in scientific development. Now a days we borrow, cheat and steal. My particular tiff lies with “our” television and movie programming. Every time I turn on my t.v I see a show stolen from the U.K and a movie from Asia.

There is a seemingly new show coming out on ABC called The Shark Tank. In hopes of getting an investor, inventors go into a room filled with five multi-millionaires and pitch their product or idea. Afterwards they are critiqued and asked a series of questions. Then each investor states whether they want to back them up or not and why. Brilliant! I would tune in, but I am afraid I have been watching this show for several months already on BBC and its called The Dragons Den. It is literally the same show with a bunch of British people.

The show stealing doesn’t end there, it was announced just today that MTV will be remaking the British show Skins. Skins is a teenage based show that follows adolescents as they grow up in England; think Degrassi: The Next Generation with less censorship. Although I have never viewed the show I have a feeling the American version will not be as good. With the FCC always crawling up someone’s bum there is no way the show will have the same effect. Not every show can be The Office after all.

When it comes to movies, particularly horror films, we turn to Asia. We have stolen The Ring, The Eye and any other remotely interesting film. FYI the original versions are far creepier. We have even began taking shows. Like ABC’s summer hit Wipeout. Contestants compete on a game show trying to overcome a series of intense obstacles. There are two narrators who make humorous commentary; once again I have been watching this show already for years and its called Unbeatable Banzuke. It is a show originated from Japan and plays on the cable network G4. The obstacles on the Unbeatable Banzuke are far more complicated, challenging and funnier.

In a weird way we have even been stealing from ourselves! Come on people how many remakes can we take, there is going to be a Dirty Dancing remake, a Footloose remake, a Halloween remake, even a blasphemous Ten Things I Hate About You remake (which is being turned into a ABC family series…BARF!). We have seen all these stories before. Please come out with something new. The only thing anyone puts effort into is reality television, fun but not good. I am waiting for the next person to blow my mind. I know they are coming soon. There has to be something good heading our way. Until then I will continue to be addicted to True Blood, the best show on television. I will also be tuning in to this years fall programming to check for any pleasant surprises. I have a hunch Glee will not disappoint.

EYE, THE (2002)
The creative forces behind the original Japanese The Ring are responsible for this effective chiller that manages to shock despite a pretty familiar story structure. A young woman who’s been blind since her very early childhood receives a corneal transplant that leaves her with the unenviable power to see…well, dead people. Whether it’s riffing on the glut of other similarly plotted films or a victim of bad timing is unclear, but some powerful visuals and visceral blasts of shocking violence keep you paying attention. All in all, an artsy genre flick that delivers the goods with style and above-average writing. The inevitable American remake, starring Jessica Alba, arrived in 2008 to almost complete disinterest.

Retinoblastoma is a common eye cancer which usually affects young children. You can usually tell if

Retinoblastoma is a common eye cancer which usually affects young children. You can usually tell if your child has Retinoblastoma if their photographs turn out showing a visible difference in one eye. Unfortunately many parents do not catch the early signs of the condition as they simply do not know what they are looking for.

What exactly is Retinoblastoma?

As mentioned, Retinoblastoma is the most common eye cancer in children, however it is still quite rare and it only affects around one in every 20,000 births. If caught early, it is possible to treat and cure the child of the cancer; however it can lead to the loss of the eye, or in severe cases, even death. Luckily, most cases found are cured and the survival rate is currently around 96%. Just under half the cases of Retinoblastoma are inherited, so if there is a family history of the cancer, it is best to get your child checked out.

The cancer starts by a tumor developing behind one of the eyes. In some cases tumors can develop behind both eyes and that usually results in the child having their eyes enucleated. However, this is extremely rare and usually the sight can be restored if caught early enough.

The Symptoms and What to Look Out For

As many parents do not know what to look out for in their child, it is often really difficult for them to diagnose Retinoblastoma. Usually the most common symptom of the disease is an abnormal appearance of the pupil, which as mentioned earlier is often detected in photographs. Any change in the appearance of the eye could be a potential symptom so you should always have it checked out by a doctor.

The Treatments Available
If you find that your child does have Retinoblastoma, it is important to know that there are a lot of treatments available these days in order to cure it. Early detection is better and it often leads to the child having their vision completely repaired. However, treatment varies depending upon how big the tumor has grown and how far the cancer has actually spread. Even if the tumor is removed, sometimes it is too late to save the childs sigh and the eye may need to be removed.
Some of the treatments available include:

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is often used to treat Retinoblastoma and it involves injecting the chemotherapy drugs into the body in order to kill off any cancer cells. In the case of a child with Retinoblastoma, the drugs are injected directly into the fluid which surrounds the brain.

Laser Therapy

This can be used as a treatment either on its own, or in combination with chemotherapy. It basically involves shining a strong laser beam through the dilated pupil, or the actual wall of the eye, into the cancer. It is a non invasive treatment and it is either done through general or local anesthetic.

External beam radiotherapy

This treatment is usually used when Chemotherapy has not worked. Retinoblastoma is really sensitive to radiation and so this treatment frequently works. The child is exposed to a certain level of radiation on an outpatient basis over five days a week. This is usually continued for around a month and the tumor generally reduces in size over time.

Surgery

This treatment is used if the tumor has caused irreparable damage to the eye and if the tumor has reached a dangerous size. It generally involves removing the tumor and removing the eye. This is only usually done as a last resort and if the surgeon cannot save the eye without risking the childs life.

Overall if the childs eye does have to be removed they will receive an artificial one which is as identical to their original one as possible. The child will make a full recovery from surgery and they can go on to lead a fulfilling and happy life. The main thing to look out for with your child is any changes within the eye. If you do spot anything unusual do not be afraid to consult a doctor. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry!

Wrinkles happen to all of us sooner or later. It’s an inevitable part of life. Anti aging crea

Wrinkles happen to all of us sooner or later. It’s an inevitable part of life. Anti aging creams and skin care products can help minimize the look of wrinkles and slow the aging process. There are many products on the market and choosing the right product can be very difficult. Learning about the products available and what they do can help you select the best solutions for your skin. Reading reviews of anti aging creams is a great way to learn about products that may be beneficial for your skin.

Exfoliation products are effective for removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Exfoliating the dead skin reveals new skin underneath the dead cells. This aids in cell turnover, which decreases naturally as we age. Alpha hydroxy acids are used in many exfoliation products and anti aging creams. These acids remove the top layer of the skin and have regenerative effects on the skin.

Alpha hydroxy acids are used in both home and professional exfoliation products, such as scrubs, peels and anti aging creams. Home products are generally less intense and have a lower risk of damage to the skin. The strength you choose will depend on your skin type, the number and depth of wrinkles.

Topical alpha hydroxy acid creams assist in shedding dead skin cells. The most common alpha hydroxy acids used in anti aging creams are lactic acid and glycolic acid. Over the counter products contain between two and ten percent concentration. Prescription products contain over ten percent.

Burning and itching is the most common side effect and the degree of the side effects depends on the strength. Prescription products will cause more side effects than over the counter products. If you experience any side effects, stop using the product. Alpha hydroxy acids increase sun sensitivity, so you will need to be careful. Avoid the sun or wear a strong sunscreen and a hat when you are using these products.

Facial scrubs are also used to exfoliate the skin. Be sure to scrub gently and don’t apply too much pressure. The motion should be perpendicular to the wrinkles for best results. Follow the directions on the package to get the greatest benefit from the products. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after using the scrub. Don’?t use these products too often. Once or twice a week is generally enough. Information on the frequency of use will be found in the manufacturer’s directions.

Under eye anti aging creams are formulated especially for the skin in the eye area. This skin is much thinner than the rest of the skin on the face. Fewer oils are produced in this area as well. Under eye products are made to reduce dark circles and puffiness that is common under the eye area, as well as fine lines and wrinkles.

Eye products work by temporarily constricting the blood vessels in the eye area. This helps prevent fluid from building up in this area and causing puffiness. Anti aging creams for the eyes firm the skin in this area as well. They should be applied with a light tapping motion. Start at the outer corner and move in toward the inner corner of the eye.

To find which anti aging creams and skin care products work best, it’s helpful to refer to independent reviews and comparison rankings. In this way you can learn from the experience of others, saving you time, money, and frustration.
