I do not know this actress, but I like one thing about her. She’s Japanese-American. Like me!

Ah, I’m only kidding (though I do like that), but I think Nickelodeon is really trying to match the characters and actresses, as they got appearance and background this time (Musa is thought by some to be Asian)! Only thing is, Romi Dames is 31 years old. But she does look fairly young to me. She could pass for Musa somewhat.

I was browsing Wikipedia earlier today out of boredom and I decided read some of the pages about Winx Club in other languages just to see how similar they are. And I found something a little interesting…

Nobody knows for sure when Roxy’s birthday is. It was thought to be June 9th, but this turned out to be false. Some of the wiki pages list different birthdays for Roxy.

Spanish: April 28th (a day after Kae Lily-chan’s birthday!)
Italian: March 20th (they also list her age as 18)
French: Not her birthday, but list her age as 19
Russian: Again, March 20th (by the way, the Russian page also does not list Roxy as part of the Winx Club, just part of season 4)
Chinese: June 9th and age is 16

I hope Rainbow tells us Roxy’s birthday and age soon! It wouldn’t be nice to leave Roxy without a birthday.

Please give me a birthday soon!

I swear if it weren’t so early in the morning, I would’ve screamed when I saw this! BelieveInWinx has uploaded Nickelodeon’s official launch trailer for the Winx Club.

I’m so excited! The only thing I don’t like is that they pronounce Aisha’s name wrong (It’s pronounced I-ee-sha, not ay-sha), but hopefully, they’ll correct that. Some nice news before I head off to school!

Thank you to OP of Una di Noi for this news.

Molly Quinn has stated on her official Facebook page that she will be voicing Bloom and also tweeted about it before actually revealing it. The official statement from her Facebook page is:

I have been given permission to share the voice over project I have been doing over the last few weeks. I am the voice of “Bloom” in Nickelodeon’s Winx Club that will start airing this summer.

This summer? That’ll be a great end-of-the-school-year present! I haven’t heard of Molly Quinn until now, so I won’t judge, but I hope she will be great as the voice of Bloom.

The Oblivious Prattler came up with a theory that Nickelodeon might be trying to find voice actors who could physically pass off as the Winx. Well, Keke Palmer does somewhat resemble Layla and I think Molly looks a lot like Bloom. So maybe the OP is right (and it’d be so cool if she was)!

Reader Pamela wrote to Ms. Go Go asking for help with a birthday destination involving opera. Ms. Go Go is sharing her response with all Go Go’ers as part of a new, occasional feature called Go Go Me! (Check out upcoming U Want 2 Go Go posts to learn how Ms. Go Go can help YOU have more fun.)

Speaking of fun, congratulations to the winners of the EAT: Los Angeles contest: Lisa Dupuy, Margaret Finnegan, and Connie Rohman. Each will receive an autographed copy of EAT: Los Angeles, published and edited by Colleen Dunn Bates with the help of her crack team of food journalists. Thanks, Colleen, and thanks Go Go’ers for the great restaurant suggestions! (Link to Ms. Go Go’s interview with Colleen is below the jump.)

And now, GO GO ME!

Pamela writes:

“Kim aGoGo: It’s Kevin’s B-Day. What opera is in town and good for novice opera goers? His B-Day is tomorrow, 5/21, anything I can buy tickets for today for future use? How much fun your blog is!”

Ms. Go Go replies:

In terms of an actual opera performance on Kevin’s birhday, Pamela, you’re out of luck, unfortunately, and this is why….

Brilliant (but controversial) German composer Richard Wagner’s mythic (Norse gods, dwarves, mermaids, giants, Valkyries and a Ring of Gold…no relation to Lord of the Rings) Ring Cycle (Der Ring des Nibelungen) is about to open on May 29th at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with performances through the end of June. It’s the first time the complete series of four operas is being staged in Los Angeles and as such, is a hugely anticipated event that has spawned its own artistic cottage industry with ongoing lectures, a festival, art events, even a special show at the Griffith Observatory. (There’s a performance of The Light of the Valkyries tonight, May 21st, wink, wink!) The LA Opera‘s spectacular show is getting rave advance reviews but with the premiere a week away, it’s wall-to-wall Wagner in Los Angeles.

However, any opera lover would be THRILLED to have tickets to the Ring Cycle! Here is the link to All Things Ring! http://www.laoperaring.com/index.php

Also, as an adjunct to the Ring Cycle, The Lyric Opera of Los Angeles is performing the U.S. staged premiere of The Fairies (Die Feen), Wagner’s first completed opera (written when he was 20!) at the Pasadena Playhouse. Four performances only starting on June 11th! http://www.lyricoperala.org/

Thanks for reading U Want 2 Go Go, Pamela! And “Happy birthday” to Kevin!

(written 17th October) From Connemara we travelled on to Donegal, where we stayed another two nights

(written 17th October)

From Connemara we travelled on to Donegal, where we stayed another two nights just outside of town. It wasn’t a terribly exciting place, and the YHA we stayed in was a bit uninspiring compared to the Old Monastery, although we were the only ones there, so room and bathroom all to ourselves! There was also a tv and a whole pile of videos, including a Spice Girls one (another redeeming feature! ) Annoyingly, the place also seemed to be some kind of community centre, and on the first night, when there was a Boyzone doco on that I quite wanted to watch, they decided they were going to hold a meeting in the TV room. The next day we went on a tiki tour around the area. I had wanted to go and see the Slieve League cliffs, and maybe Rosses as well, because of a verse from one of my favourite poems, ‘The Fairies’, by William Allingham:
With a bridge of white mist
Columbkille he crosses
On his stately journey
From Slieveleague to Rosses
(‘He’ is the fairy king. As in elves, not Elton John.)
Apparently dad had completely failed to make the connection that this was the Slieveleague I had mentioned (how many places called Slieveleague could there be?), despite the fact that this verse (which I had recited to him when I suggested that we go there) was right there in black and white on the information board we read. He found out from some locals that there were no walks or anything there so decided not to go and have a look. I assumed he had remembered that I wanted to go and decided not to anyway and spent the rest of the day a little annoyed.
Further along the road we got to Columbkille, where he decided to go for a 10km run and left me to my own devices in the town.

After an hour and a half there, I can understand why the fairy king passed over it.

There is a small town just north of Greymouth called Dobson, which, whenever I go through it (it’s the kind of place you go through, rather than stop at), makes me feel quite depressed. Columbkille gave me a bit of a Dobson vibe. Here is what I did: Visited the cemetery to collect names (this didn’t last long – everyone was called Patrick, Ann, Mary, Brigid, or John. I am not exaggerating!), and then bought a newspaper and drank tea for an hour.

The second night in the hostel I settled in with my duvet to watch videos, only to discover that the VCR was broken. I channel surfed for a while (TV is just as dire over here as in NZ), before finding a movie that I’d seen before and liked, so stayed on that. Then the Irish dance class started up downstairs!

The next day we drove to Belfast, and spent most of the afternoon in the city. I tried to look for a book on the Irish language (to go with my Welsh one) but no luck. Dad said I could probably get one on Amazon or something anyway, but that wasn’t really the point – I wanted to buy one in Ireland, otherwise I could probably find a book like that reasonably easily in NZ. On the way back I got sidetracked in H&M. This is a store kind of like Glassons crossed with Max. I’d been past a few stores in various countries and kept seeing this skirt that I liked the look of. This store had it on sale for £7, so I figured why not try it on. Sadly it was not to be, but I found plenty of things to try on! I ended up only buying one thing, a raspberry and aubergine (colours; there are not actually fruits and vegetables on it) striped cardigan for £10, which is probably a bit less than what you’d get it for at home. Was amused to discover that sizings here are just as bizarre as in NZ – I tried on shirts that were size 12 that fit, 12s that were too small, and ended up having to get a size small cardigan!

Another hostel in Belfast and another room to ourselves (I highly recommend travelling this time of year!), the only drawback was that the mattresses were plastic-covered, which meant your sheets continuously slid off. I had the TV room to myself for a while (nothing on again!) until a guy came in a started talking to me. It turned out that he was also a Kiwi. It also turned out that he was a 9/11 truther (it came out when a documentary on skyscraper construction/safety started). I don’t know if anyone reading this blog believe this too, but I don’t so I’m writing about this – just to clarify, I don’t mean any offence to you! I don’t like arguing with complete strangers, so I politely smiled and said things like ‘oh really?’ as he told me all his reasons for thinking it was an inside job.
Smile.
Nod.

Up nice and early (even dad wanted the alarm set!) for the ferry to Scotland the next morning. Pretty easy crossing, with free wireless (yay!) so I kept myself occupied for the two-hour trip. Drove all the way from Stranraer to the Isle of Skye that day. It was pretty smooth sailing, except for the bit where I navigated us the wrong way at an intersection (in my defence, I thought we were at a different intersection; and if we had been at the one I though, we would have gone the right way!) and ended up driving around a town called Renfrew on the outskirts of Glasgow trying to get back on the motorway. I am firmly of the opinion that every rental car should be fitted with GPS! My highlight of the journey was passing ‘Loch Lochy’. I giggled for what was probably an unnecessarily long time at the thought of a ‘Lake Lake-y’,

Stayed last night at the YHA in Broadford (a few miles from the bridge across the Kyle of Lochalsh, which is between Skye and the mainland. I beat dad at chess this time (he’d had four beers, so it probably wasn’t the truest victory lol, but hey, I beat him at chess!), and set dad’s cellphone alarm for 7.30, since dad had decided we needed to leave for our walk at 8.15 (apparently 9am is unacceptable, because by then the ‘day is half over’ o.O) and since I was in a girls’ dorm where he couldn’t wake me in time. I bounced out of bed (ish), showered, had brekkie, and headed back upstairs to brush my teeth. On my way past receptionist, the warden handed me a note from dad, informing me that I had missed the walk. Since it was still only 8.05, I was pretty annoyed (not really to miss the walk, just that I’d got up early for nothing!) I looked at my watch a couple of times and was surprised to discover that it said 9.05. WTF? I wasn’t in the shower for that long! I looked at the cellphone. 8.05. I am still completely mystified as to how the time on the cellphone changed by an hour in the 24 hours between me setting it for the ferry and setting it for today, but apparently the walk wasn’t my kind of walk anyway, so not a big deal lol.
Headed out to Armadal in the south of the island, coz I wanted to go to the bookshop at the island’s Gaelic college. It’s the only place in the country (and the world, I guess) that teaches tertiary subjects in Gaelic, so I thought it would be a failry ideal place to pick up a book on the Gaelic language. Unfortunately it was a Saturday, and while there were a few areas open, including what seemed to be reception (minus a receptionist), all the signs were in Gaelic, so we had no idea which (if any) pointed to the bookshop! Might try somewhere in Edinburgh.

Went to look at a ruined castle in Kyleakin, then back to the hostel, where I did a 500-piece puzzle before we got the map out and planned the rest of the trip. Then we went to look at Kinloch church, which is ancient and ruined, complete with trees growing out of the walls and tumbledown gravestones. Very cool, especially in the half-light. I took a lot of photos!

Back to the hostel again. Dad beat me at chess (no beer this time), but it was slightly more sophisticated – we both still had about half our pieces on the board, whereas the last two games have been one or two pieces each chasing each other around the board.

It is after 11, so I’m off to bed, but first, two points:

1- YAY FERNS for beating England in extra time! I really really hope the game is available on the screens on the plane on the way back (somehow I don’t think so, though), coz it sounds like it was quite exciting!

2- I miss milo! Before I left NZ I was trying to decide whether there was anything that I would miss enough that I should take it with me. I decided I could like without marmite and jaffas for six weeks, but figured there’d be milo (or something fairly identical) in the UK. I was wrong, and I MISS it. I did some investigating in the supermarket the other day, and decided that Ovaltine looked the most similar, ingredients wise. It probably was, but it is still wrong. It’s maltier than milo, and (this is the bit that really bothered me) dissolves in your milk. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have my milo with cold milk, and I reckon the best bit is the spoonfuls of milk-wetted milo at the bottom of the glass after you’ve drunk all the milk. Ovaltine denies me this pleasure.
I WANT MILO. This will be the first thing I eat/drink when I get back to NZ.

Oooh I’m venturing into territory here that I may regret.. I’m daring to sit on the fenc

Oooh I’m venturing into territory here that I may regret.. I’m daring to sit on the fence-ish for something but I have some opinions I want to get out and I don’t want to air it all in comments on other people’s blogs …

Yes this is a post about breastfeeding. Now look. Before anybody gets all jumpy on my little self I am not against breastfeeding. I am not against bfing in public and I am not against children who need to be fed being fed wherever they are hungry, whenever they are hungry.

I am not however, like the Queen of Spain, about to post a picture of my breasts full frontal on my blog. Not that I think people can’t do exactly as they wish on their personal space but….

My stance is this.

Why is it that whenever people have a rigid or particularly strong view, where they insist others must consider them and not be narrow minded – that they seem to be the ones that will not consider others’ points of view or perspectives and are equally unyielding?

I am not personally offended by bfing women in public.

I have no issue sitting next to someone who is bfing in public, I will not cause a scene if someone begins to feed their child next to me, nor would I move or inwardly vomit with disgust at the child getting some lunch. Maggie Gyllenhaal is totally within her rights to feed her baby as far as I’m concerned wherever and whenever.

But. Some really do have an issue with this. Some people do find it offensive or if not offensive, some people ask that if you want to bf in public that you try to do it with discretion.

I have to say I don’t really see the issue here.

Bfing mothers want people to consider their rights to feed their child, their child’s right to feed and basically their feelings regarding this matter.

But it seems to be to me.. that when the others ask for consideration for the opposite e.g. I feel uncomfortable if someone does bfeed in front of me or I’m embarrassed or whatever .. they are told to suck it.

Breasts make milk. You get pregnant and they make milk. It’s what they’re there for. They make milk for the baby to drink. It’s no big deal.

Bfeeders :- some are not able to get a grip with reality on this and feel it’s disgusting or wrong or revolting or whatever.. So just let them get on with it.

Why can it not just be that people make an effort to co-exist?

Does someone have to be ‘wrong’ or could we not just recognise that everyone including Jenny Ha Ha has the right to their opinion? Even if it isn’t yours.

Why order people to suck it? Why insist that everyone has to accept breastfeeding in public even if they find it uncomfortable? Why make breastfeeding mothers feel unwelcome because they are feeding their child in a cafe or on a park bench? Why make everyone’s lives harder by complaining that a mother is feeding her baby when it could be you to move? Why rub people’s faces in something they don’t like though, just because they don’t agree with you?

Why can’t people just try to exist in the same place without forcing their opinions on others?

It’s the same with so many contentious issues.. you never … well OK not never.. but hardly ever see two people with opposing views on a controversial subject say ‘well OK we feel differently about this..’ it’s always ramming opinions down others’ throats and insisting they are ‘wrong’ and they should accept you’re right.

I (personally) don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility to attempt some discretion when you’re feeding your baby in public (considering the feelings of those who may not be that WOOHOO about it) just as I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility or reasonable behaviour to accept that babies need to be fed and to knuckle down and get on with it. Or move. Don’t look. Walk on by.

I don’t want to follow a God or go to a church but every Saturday in town I have to walk past a man who tells me my children are going to Hell because we’re not married.

I don’t want to consider black/African/ Asian (insert whatever here) citizens ‘sub standard’ humans but every last weekend of the month I have to walk past the bloke asking me to buy the BNP newspaper. I told him in no uncertain terms last time “ABSOLUTELY NOT!’

I am proud to say that I acknowledge that people have differing opinions on a wide range of subjects and I respect those that allow me to have mine without making me feel abnormal, sad, sick or ‘wrong’ and I don’t really have tons of respect for those that berate me for not being like minded.

Just live and let live guys… and you know what people that do think BFing in public is sick and wrong are never going to listen to you, they’ll just ogle the pictures of your breasts and move on…

Sorry but that’s the truth.

The Fairies is a children’s program on Nick Jnr in the morning..

Bear with me….

It’s an Australian program centered around two fairies Rhapsody and Harmony..

It’s the kind of program where they learn valuable moral lessons abut being honest and helping other fairies get their stuck head out of a flower…helping a friend in need…. (don’t ask me to explain more about this because I don’t know)

The Fairies say each others’ names at every opportunity in every sentence. Clearly this must also a valuable lesson… … … ?

Yeeeesss…
……we’re positive this must be a valuable lesson for every child….. we’re just not sure which lesson that may be… maybe it is <strike>funda</strike>mental for every two year old to be encouraged to repeat everyone’s name at least four times in every conversation.. I dunno…

Anyway.. I digress..

Thanks to this gem of a children’s program.. (as I was getting dressed for work this morning in our bedroom) …..BN lazed in bed and the girls were watching said Fairies… … … after a bizarre conversation..

my mammary friends are now… affectionately renamed… (by BN I hasten to add)

………….. you guessed it

Rhapsody and Harmony

Oh the weird and wonderful life of The Little Nut Tree !!!

Do you think I’m the only woman in the world who can walk around and say she has a coupla fairies under her top??!?

June 06 – Melody Maker runs a fascinating article called “The £ S D Of Beat” where the writer puts forward that groups are pricing themselves out of the market and that ballrooms are facing a slump in attendances due to the “over-exposure of groups on TV pop shows”. MM quotes the fee to book The Remo Four for a weekend gig at £ 120. Mid-week slots were always cheaper and this is why I think Albert Bonici had name acts perform on a Thursday. Having promoted myself, I know that it was easy and cheaper to book bands who had a break in their tour between two larger cities. I suspect Albert made it known that he’d offer dates at relatively short notice if he could get acts cheaply enough. Adverts throughout the years would seem to back this up with a number of bands being advertised in advance but never actually appearing.

June 11 – Modern Dancing Enterprises presents The Deacons plus The Alex. Sutherland Sextet

July 02 – Moray Dance Club presents The Undertakers plus The Alex. Sutherland Sextet. The Undertakers (seen above in an advert for Selmer) were an offshoot of Bob Evans & The Five Shillings which is said to have been Merseyside’s very first rock group. They only existed from February 1961 to December 1964 when they split, partly due to a flu jab paralyzing the arm of saxophonist and vocalist Brian Jones. When they played the Two Red Shoes, they featured Jackie Lomax on bass and vocals, who went on to be one of the first releases on The Beatles own record label, Apple.
