It’s exciting times right now with The Presets announcement of their new album ‘Pacifica’ out this coming September on Modular. It’s been all too long since they hit us with the tidal wave that was Apocalypso. Adding to the anticipation, they’ve released their first single Youth In Trouble, and put out a phenomenal remix package with edits from The Finger Prince, Green Velvet, and Alex Metric. To celebrate all of this, Modular has kindly decided to give out the Green Velvet treatment of track for free. We can’t imagine a better possible collaboration, this one is technolicious to the max. Second EP on techno label Motorik!

This time around it’s The Finger Prince who’s delivering the package, and once again, there’s some Jensen Interceptor goodies inside.

Two extremely successful years of production and two home run EP’s later,  the one man brain behind Light Year brings another work of art with his third EP ‘Moderation’. After gaining worldwide success with the ’5 girls’ EP, Light Year continues to push boundaries and create some high quality acid flared techno with some of the best percussion out there. With big support from 2manydjs, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Brodinski, and far more artists of the same caliber.

The end of 2011 and beginning of 2012 brings bigger things for this man as he continues to ride down the path of success. With a huge anticipated release of his remix alongside The Finger Prince for Erol Alkan & Boys Noize‘s infamous track ‘Lemonade‘, they do nothing short of disappoint with their spin on things. Of all the remixes done for that song, and amongst the plethora of top quality producers doing them, I still find this to be the best. Backed with the signature Finger Prince bassline topped off with some brilliant percussion…it gets no better than this.

Moving on to the new year with his ‘Moderation’ EP hot off Bang Gang Records and with the start of a new year we are gifted with a slightly different sound from the Australian born producer. While he decided to ditch the banger’esq fashion he brings out some deep house with some catchy baselines that carry some real groove. Also, checkout the awesome old school VHS Rave clips while getting down.

Dominating 2011, Azari & III have released another EP following the success of Hungry for the Power. 

‘Manic’ produces a delicious dark house beat that drives their signature vocals over the five, hypnotic synth layered, minutes.

Out of the Manic remixes, our pick by Maceo Plex unfortunately did make its way onto this EP, but will possibly be released later this week. However, once again The Finger Prince has the magic touch and produces a solid deep tech-house remix that is sure to be played out in the next few weeks.

Jukebox #8 is just an honest excuse for my laziness to write too much! Today i rather expose whats rulling on my headphones!

Some monsters are back…and i’m really excited about it!

TV on The Radio launched their new album a few months ago with unexpected different feeling within it. Not as much emotions bounded with world catharsis, but instead inner feelings bounded with self experience! Made an amazing turn again in terms of lyrics as well as in sound. If you’re aware of this band work you know they’re not easily remixable, exception made for The Glitch Mob remix on “Red Dress”…but times change and the new track “Will Do” has already 3 official remixes. Switch and XXXChange remixes are part of original release while Mylo‘s remix (definetely my favorite) comes in the new EP named “Chemical Peels” along with “Caffeinated Consciousness”“-Das RacistPatrickWhat Remix!

I was starting to gain roots on my feet while waiting for The Rapture…but good things come to those who wait and “How Deep is your Love”, first single of the new album “In The Grace of Your Glory” to be released by DFA on September 5th, is already a good omen! Philippe Zdar (half part of Cassius) is the producer of this album which is an extra guarantee of excrutiating quality. Bring it on the sweet melodies wrapped with crushing drums and guitar riffs…Dance-Punk right???????

Last weekend while attending “Milhões em Festa” a music Festival in the city of Barcelos (Portugal) i had the experience of the year! That experience name is FM Belfast…there’s no words for how good those guys are, and i’m not talking about them in their Underwear (:D). As a good band does they’ve recreated all their work to fit in a live concert, and believe me they’ve done it in an awesome way. If you have a chance to cross their way…just STOP and LISTEN! Meantime i’ll put you in the right “Frequency” (KGB Remix).

This next Jukebox cut is for a friend…guess you all know him! Seems that he suffers from a mild flu every second week or so (aahh!). Bomb The Bass has a song for you Bruno! Don’t get mad ’cause actually is the best song of this band and it’s named “Boy/Girl” and it advices you to “…Never Get Sick”

To cut a long story short i’ll had three more songs to this jukebox without anymore Bla Bla Bla: “Even in The Darkness” from the recently released The Black Ghosts album- “When Animals Stare” ; Azari & III‘s “Manic” – The Finger Prince remix and Caribou‘s remix for Radiohead‘s “Little by Little”.

We had the pleasure of dropping them a few lines before they landed state side. Love These Guys!

You’ll be playing on one of the sweatiest dance floors in Austin in the coming weeks. One that is home to some very uninhibited dancing. What is the first memory you both have of giving it up to the dance gods and really letting it all hang out?

A: We both grew up in the Suburbs.  Every now and again, there would be neighborhood “raves” or parties held at schools, sports centres and strange venues like that. We both remember glow sticks, shiny clothes and fast bad techno music, but there was always that backroom playing 90′s r’n’b, which was the business!! Jodeci what up!!

Texas is a Land Down Under of sorts. Any similarities you think you might find when you arrive?

A: Mmmmm, tough question. We’re thinking stereotypes and clichés.

Gun racks, pick up trucks or “ute’s” as there known down under covered with assorted car performance stickers and babes with disappearing denim shorts, but we could be wrong…

In your bios you allude to being opposites and how that comes together to form a sort of super nova of creativity. What are a couple things you really admire about the other as a creative partner? 

There are many strengths & weaknesses that ultimately contribute to the creativity behind Light Year some of those are…

Jordan: Card dealing extraordinaire, has a extensive knowledge of vintage cheese & is fluent in Swahili.

Mikey: Won a gold medal for synchronized swimming and once told an old man that his time was up.

Your sampling is really fine-tuned. When you are flipping through vinyl is there any particular style of music that lends itself to sampling for you? Or any kind you find yourself returning to often?

A: Not really, it depends on what you find. Inspiration comes at weird times, one of us was watching Pulp Fiction and heard that “Revels – Comanche” track which later turned into Marcellus.  Its funny, we always have time for a good disco/funk sample, but that style has been raped over the last few years so we are making a conscious effort to steer clear of that style at the moment.

When a light year track is on, its an instant rage-r. You don’t need anything else on! What kind of activity is happening in the studio when ya’ll are building a track?

A:  Wow, thanks. Ummm, often whenever we have a break through on a track, we always start laughing and the mood instantly changes in the studio. We kind of know when something sounds ‘right’ and there is no better feeling. Those times make this feel like the best job in the world. But other times, it can be like a mild torture, listening to the same track 1000 times just to get it right.

Is there any particular show or crowd that made you realize you had come a long way, or put things in greater perspective?

A:  Back home in Oz, playing festival gigs always puts things in perspective for us; we are fortunate enough to be playing Splendour In The Grass this year. This festival sells out every time and runs over 3 days with people camping out and partying the whole time.  Also, our tour of Europe was mind blowing.  We had no idea people knew who we were, but most of the shows have been our favorite gigs so far this year. Especially crazy ass Poland!

You have remixed some incredible artists! What’s it like being handed something you may already see as perfect and be given the opportunity to change it freely? And what are some adjectives you can use to describe what Light Year does to a song?

We definitely feel a little pressure when remixing artists that you are influenced by and are big fans of, especially if you haven’t had the chance to meet them before.  To use our remix of ZZT with The Finger Prince for example, we loved the original, so we wanted to stay true to it, but also add some flavor that made it uniquely ours.  It was so much fun doing that remix, it turned out to be one of the best things we have done in our opinion.

Is there any piece of equipment that either of you have any sentimental attachment to? Or one that you favor in particular?

We are firm believers that the machine does not make the man. You can have all the gear in the world and still be crap at making tracks/songs/etc.

But to answer your question, YES, the first synth we ever bought was a Moog Voyager. It has the most sentimental value to us. We used it for all the synth sounds on our first EP, and even though we have expanded our collection we always find ourselves looking to it for inspiration. Easily our favorite!!

Other than that, we have been loving all different kinds of drum machines lately.  We will be incorporating all of this stuff into a live show one day……one day!

When you lock glances with a crazed fan in the front row of a show and you look deep into their crazed eyes, what do you see and what does it say to you?

Depends on the crowd, sometimes we see resentment, sometimes we see admiration other times we can see in the dark. It’s a real balancing act.

And what song does Light Year listen to before you jump into the hyperspace of a live show?

następny w kolejności to przeszło dwu godzinny radio mix jaki sporządził jeden z moich cichych faworytów. od pewnego momentu przyglądam się autorskim realizacjom The Finger Prince, za którym ukrywa się Gus Da Hoodart z Bang Gang. dla labela pod tą samą nazwą ukazała się ostatnio jego ep ‘Conductive II’. poniżej Smoke Signals Radio Mix, dzieją się tam naprawdę interesujące rzeczy więc proponuję czym prędzej sprawdzić! tym razem playlista w komentarzach.

natomiast tego człowieka nie muszę chyba przedstawiać, bliski kolega Adama Freelanda, zdolny producent i remixer, Mr Alex Metric. ostatnio bombastic singiel ‘Open Your Eyes’ ze Stevem Angello. eklektyczna selekcja, energia, trochę klasyki i kilka premier, to wszystko składa się na jego ostatni Essential Mix z Bbc 1 z 16.04. playlista dla wnikliwych oczywiście w sekcji komentarzy. ode mnie pełna rekomendacja.
