I have to admit I definitely have regrets about not going to Montreal. I think it would have been an amazing show to see live (I wouldn’t have yelled ‘You Screwed Brett’, but The Man would have). Still, if I couldn’t make it out, I’m glad I at least got to watch it at home because it was definitely worth watching.

Chris Jericho and The Big Show b. MVP and Mark Henry to retain the Unified Tag Team Championships
It was an ok match. My favourite moment of the whole thing was the buddy moment between Big Show and Jericho at the end, I found it really cute and really like the sort of big/little brother relationship. The match itself was… Meh. Not a fan of watching Henry in the ring, though I do love MVP.

Kofi Kingston b. The Miz to retain the U.S Championship
This was a good match, but then Kofi and The Miz are both great workers. The Man keeps talking about how the WWE should bring back the cruiser-weight division and these are two guys who would excel in it. I wish the result had gone the other way, because I think The Miz is ready for a title run, but all in all it was a good match and I just hope that the result only means we’ll be seeing them again next month…

Legacy b. DX
This is one I wish I had gone with my gut on. I knew Legacy had to beat DX sometime, I just didn’t have enough faith to actually believe it’d be in submission, but I’m glad it happened, it was a huge push for Legacy, who are fast making their mark as serious contenders. I liked their promo as well, paying homage to DX as wrestling legends, but making it clear that that was the past and this is now. The whole match was phenomenal in my opinion and it made sense for Shawn Michaels to be the one to tap–it is Montreal after all. More on that another time, though. Anyway, I love this program and really think that Legacy as a strong future in the business and this victory is a strong indication of that.

Kane b. The Great Khali
So Kane won, who cares? All I care about is whether or not I have to see these two on a PPV again and I hope the answer is no.

Christian b. William Regal to retain the ECW Championship
This might have been the best worked match of the night, even if it lacked the excitement and intensity of some of the other matches. Still, both Regal and Christan are good workers and that showed through. Everyone knows how I feel about Christian being on ECW, but at least in this kind of match I don’t feel he’s completely wasted. It really was a good match, if not as entertaining as the DX/Legacy and Cena/Orton matches.

John Cena b. Randy Orton to become new WWE Champion
The ending was predictable, but the match… It was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. As incredible as the DX/Legacy match was, there’s no doubt this was the match of the night and, in my opinion, a strong candidate for match of the year. So good, so intense. I’m the first to admit, I find Cena/Orton over done, but… This time it was good. Hell, it was amazing. We all knew Cena was going to win, but watching how far Orton could push him before the tables turned was intense and exciting and for a moment I actually started to wonder if Cena would actually quit. Amazing match.

CM Punk b. The Undertaker
I called a Punk victory with some sort of shenanigans, but I didn’t expect it to be quite so… obvious. I should have though, because again, it was Montreal. I rolled my eyes a bit at the ending, but it was an okay match and I’m glad Punk retained, because he’s too hot a heel to lose the title just yet. I really enjoyed Punk’s promo and thought the slam at Jeff Hardy fit with Punk’s character, plus the situation needed to be acknowledged. I was glad to see Jimmy Wang Yang on TV, just wish it was in a better light, instead of being jumped by Punk. Anyway, this match wasn’t the best of the night (not even close), but it wasn’t bad, just the ending was a little hokey.

Does anyone know what the point of the John Morrison/Dolph Ziggler segment was? The WWE took off what could have been a good match to give us that weird little segment? Yay.

All in all, Breaking Point did a good job of keeping me interested. There were some slow moments, but the amazing matches between DX and Legacy and Cena and Orton made the PPV better than just average. I definitely feel I got my $40 worth.

Normally what I would do here is talk about how the show was in general, but I feel like something else needs to be addressed. Vincent Kennedy McMahon: I hope you are listening.

We get it. We all understood what you did with the Punk/Undertaker match. For those of you who don’t know what the Montreal Screwjob is, search it on wikipedia and read what happened. Whether you read about it or know exactly what happened, you can’t help but be bothered by what the striking similarities of the match.

I will be one of the first people to say that fans from Canada are usually more knowledgable about what happens in pro wrestling. Flashback to Survivor Series 1997, the pride and joy of Canadian wrestling, Bret Hart was the WWF champion and on his way over to WCW for his own reasons. VKM screws him over and Shawn Michaels has the title. We return to Breaking Point in the same city as the 97 Series. We got the SAME ENDING.

My question is why was this necessary? I would have rather had Punk get DQ’d by kicking the ref than reinacting the screwjob. Hell, I would have rather the creative team say “we got no ending, so make it up.”

Imagine being a huge wrestling fan in Canada seeing your hero losing the title without him tapping out or anything. Think about how mad you would be at the bookers and how upset it would make you, seeing your hero have something truely stolen from him. Now, flash forward to Breaking Point. You just got tickets to or are watching Breaking Point, and you have to relive the memory that saw your national hero lose the title. I think once is unforgivable, but twice is plain cruel.

Enough is enough Vince. There is absolutely no reason to pull this. Am I to expect you to pull this every pay per view event your in Montreal? If so, let me know so I can get a head start. Otherwise, KEEP IT AWAY. I don’t care what you do, but don’t under any condition bring up the screwjob again.

We get it Vince. You won. You screwed Bret.

On a side note, I want to add that I am tired of seeing yet another “Montreal Screwjob” finish from the “1997 Survivor Series”.

Can’t they come up with anything new when the WWE is in Montréal ?

Stop using the most controversial moment in wrestling of the last 15 years and make us forget, Vince McMahon, that you fucked Bret Hart’s farewell in the WWE. Bret never could have a proper last match finish. He departed to the wCw and we never saw him again in a WWE ring.

While I hated Shawn Michaels for doing what he did that night, he apologized over the last few years.

Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest performers in the history of wrestling while I do not like CM Punk at all. Punk is good, but that’s it. Hundreds of wrestlers have been better and they never held the WWE title, just like Jake “The Snake” Roberts or “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka.

This review is a little bittersweet. Originally when the location for Breaking Point (at that point still called Unforgiven) was announced, The Man and I decided to get tickets. I’m a Toronto girl, but Montreal isn’t that far away. However, real life… In the form of a wedding, a family reunion and finances got in the way. Sigh. So, instead I’ll be watching it from my home TV instead of enjoying a fun weekend in Montreal and because of The Man’s work schedule, we were unable to swing tickets for Raw in Toronto as well (boo). I think a road trip might be in our future since I haven’t been to a live event since about 1991.

Anyway, back to Breaking Point. I’m not crazy about the submission gimmick, but it’ll still be fun. I’m disappointed that Morrison/Ziggler got dumped from the program (I think that could be because Ziggler might be getting a face turn, more on that later in the week), but I’m excited about the Kofi Kingston/The Miz match, because well I think The Miz is awesome!

The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston for the US title
The Miz has yet to have a PPV victory as a single’s star and with the sort of push he seems to be getting, I think it’s time. I’ve enjoyed Kingston’s reign as US Champion, but I think it’s time for us to see exactly why The Miz is so awesome. I really do think The Miz will win this one tonight.
My Prediction: The Miz

Kane vs. The Great Khali
All I can honestly say about this match is I don’t care. I’m not sure why this is a PPV caliber match and I, personally, would have much rather seen Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison than Kane and the Great Khali. For the heck of it I’ll say Kane wins, but honestly I don’t care. I just hope this is the last PPV we have to see between these two.
My Prediction: Kane

DX vs. Legacy
I am loving this feud. I’m a huge DX fan girl and I love seeing them back together and I also love Legacy and think they’re benefitting from this feud. They’re getting experience and exposure and they really need a good win to put them over the top, but I don’t think it’ll be tonight. Maybe next month if we get a third shot of DX and Legacy, but not in a submission match.
My Prediction: DX

Chris Jericho and the Big Show vs. MVP and Mark Henry for the Unified Tag Team Championship
I like MVP, but not a huge Mark henry fan and there’s no way Jericho and the Big Show are ready to drop the titles. The tag team division is becoming revamped and getting some much needed recognition and for that to continue, they need to keep the titles on Jericho and the Big Show, who are undeniably Main Eventers. I like MVP, but he’s not quite there yet and I’m not sure Mark Henry will ever be there.
My Prediction: Chris Jericho and the Big Show

William Regal vs. Christian for the ECW Championship
I’m a huge Christan fan, but I still want him to lose, because I want him to be rescued from the nowhere land that is ECW. He’s too talented too waste away there, indefinitely, as I say time after time. However, I don’t see that happening. He’ll retain and have another program with Dreamer, where one of them will turn heel, though I have no idea which one.
My Prediction: Christian

John Cena vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Title
This one seems obvious. John Cena doesn’t quit. John Cena doesn’t tap. John Cena isn’t losing an “I Quit” match. Plus Orton’s been champion pretty much straight through since Backlash (with a one week break where Batista held and then dropped the title) and in this current climate, that seems like a long time, especially since this will be eighth straight PPV championship match Orton has been in and I think the WWE will want to switch it up (though I’m not sure putting the title on Cena, who has been in seven title matches since January, is much of an improvement). Maybe if Cena wins we’ll see The Miz challenge for the title. At least that would be fresh blood. Plus it qould mean there was a point to the stupid Cena/The Miz storyline.

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk for the World Heavy Weight Championship
Not sure about this one at all. My gut says its too soon for Punk, who has become an incredible heel, to lose the title, but… I can’t see The Undertaker tapping out to CM Punk. If this was a normal match, I’d predict a DQ, but since that’s not possible, I imagine there’ll be some osort of funny finish, like CM Punk using a weapon to knock the Undertaker out or something.

This is one of the matches that no one cares about on the card. Kane hasn’t been remotely close to relevent since he took off the mask and Khali is a joke of a wrestler. Kane gets the win in this suckfest.

US Championship Match: Kofi Kingston (c)vs The Miz

The Miz has looked like a legitimate contender for this title, but I think Kofi is too over with the fans for him to lose it to Miz. That being said, I am picking The Miz.

United Tag Titles Match: Chris Jericho and Big Show (c) vs MVP and Mark Henry

I like JeriShow so unless there is a legitimate tag team to come out, I will continue to pick them.

ECW Championship Match: Christian (c) vs William Regal

I pray that they don’t screw this one up. This should end with a Regal DQ and a beatdown.

Submission Falls Count Anywhere: D-Generation X vs Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase

I think Legacy should win this match to keep the rivalry going. I smell a DiBiase sharpshooter on Shawn Michaels.

I Quit Match for the WWE Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs John Cena

I won’t even predict who will win since I really couldn’t care less about this match. You know that this match is stale when ABSOLUTELY NO ONE CARES WHO WINS. We have seen Cena/Orton 100000000 times. Dear WWE, FIND A NEW  TITLE CONTENDER.

World Heavyweight Title Match: CM Punk (c) vs The Undertaker

This is a good example of what the WWE does do and continues to do well. This should be the match of the night and I expect Punk to win the match cleanly.

Because it is easier to do, I’ll start with the bad reasons.

TOP 5 REASONS TO PASS ON THIS YEAR’S SUMMERSLAM:

5. The match card was extremely easy to pick winners.

4. William Regal deserves better than an eight second match.

3. The Great Khali vs Kane was atrocious.

2. John Cena and Randy Orton having another match at a Pay Per View. Seriously, besides Triple H, they face no one.

1. The worst ending to a match that I have seen in a long time. *Cena/Orton

TOP 5 REASONS TO WATCH IT

5. DX reunites for possibly the last run as a team. Both men are getting older and who knows if we will ever see it again.

4. Dolph Ziggler and Rey Mysterio put on a good match.

3. Legacy actually looked like they belonged in the ring with HHH and Michaels.

2. The TLC match was better than I could have expected, even with Hardy and Punk in it.

1. The Undertaker made his return to take on Punk.

My Predictions:

Let me start off by saying that this may be one of weakest cards on paper that I have seen at Summerslam in a very long time.

I think MVP should beat Swagger, but the push that Swagger is getting confuses me because there are more talented and more experienced wrestlers who deserve it.  Ultimately, I am going to have Swagger win this one.

In the Khali/Kane feud, almost everyone I talk to thinks the sooner this ends the better. I would love to see another Kane/Taker feud, but that probably will not happen for a while. This will be a very telling point in the WWE career of Khali. If he doesn’t look good losing to Kane tonight, I would not be shocked to see him gone from the company.

The tag team of Jericho and Big Show has been a really nice addition to the lack luster tag team division in the WWE. In a post I will do later this week, I’ll rate the tag teams in the WWE and TNA and do a tournament to see who would come out on top so keep a look out for that. With almost no storyline put into this match, I can’t see Cryme Tyme winning the match, so I’ll give the nod to Show and Jericho.

The Christian/Regal match is the one I am most intrigued by. I have been waiting a while for Regal to get some kind of push and I really like the dynamic of this match. Christian usually gives a good match and Regal should provide a formidable opponent. If I was to book this match, I would have Ezekiel Jackson and Vladomir Koslov come into to distract Christian and Regal to roll him up for the victory. I think Regal will take this one.

I will be the first to admit it: I was unimpressed by Dolph Ziggler, but he has grown on me. He is very technically sound and I feel they may need to truely develop a new star and I think he is ready to take the title from Mysterio.

The TLC match is going to be a very interesting match. In the WWE’s struggle to be more PG, how in the world does a TLC match, which is one of the most dangerous matches, fit into that category? I think both men will do very well and make the match work in CM Punk’s favor. I just think this match might be a little much.

Cena/Orton 800 is the match I care least about. At this point, I do not care who wins this match. I just hope one loses to Jericho in the next few months because I am really tired of seeing the title cycle between 3 or 4 guys. I think Orton will keep the title.

I had a feeling about 3 or 4 months ago that we could see DX again and I feel like this is perfect timing. It puts another tag team, which I feel could take the titles, on the map and its nice to see Rhodes and DiBiase as something other than Orton’s lackeys. I think DX is going to take this one.
