A Tribe Called Quest’s iconic frontman, Q-Tip, has worked with Lord Yeezus and Jay-Z in the past on My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne and has now confirmed that he will finally be showcasing his skills on Cruel Winter (to be out Spring 2013). The living legend even signed to G.O.O.D. Music earlier this year. Nicely done, Ye, nicely done.

Check out Q-Tip’s interview below, in which he not only confirms this history-making revelation but also talks about the fascinating, genetic history behind the name of his fourth solo album, The Last Zulu, to be out sometime next year.

Cruel Summer dropped a few weeks ago and now Q-Tips tells HHS1987 that we can expect a Cruel Winter album. That is just great! He also talks about his The Last Zulu album and other topics.

The last album release by Q-Tip was in 2009 through Arista, and according to the artist left a “bad taste” in his mouth. Since then, he has focused on different projects with artists like Marsha Ambrosious, Rico Love, and many others. Things took a turn for the best when he helped Kanye West with his single “Dark Twisted Fantasy,” which pretty much made Tip part of  the G.O.O.D. Music family.

With his this new deal being signed, Q-Tip is said to release a new album in 2013 titled “The Last Zulu.” G.O.O.D. Music will provide stability which is something that the artist lacked in other label homes and will be working once again with Berry Weiss, who contirbuted to Tip’s success in the 90′s.

According to hitflix.com, this is what Weiss said about working with Q-Tip once again:

“He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists. His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz.”

 

According to a press release, Tip is working on his fourth solo album, tentatively titled The Last Zulu, due in 2013. More details regarding the LP will be announced in the forthcoming months.

The veteran rapper/producer shared his excitement for reconnecting with Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam, who worked with A Tribe Called Quest to release projects in the ‘90s. “I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” said Q-Tip. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”

Weiss shared similar sentiments. “I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again,” said Weiss. “He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists. Q-Tip announced he is joining the G.O.O.D. Music family, as well he’s prepping his fourth solo album.

Q-Tip released a statement about re-connecting with Barry Weiss, the Chairman and CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam, whom he worked with during his A Tribe Called Quest days in the ’90s.

Q-Tip also revealed that he is working on his fourth solo album, tentatively titled The Last Zulu, it’s due out in 2013.

Personally, I like this move for Q-Tip, however given his post Tribe Called Quest career and musical choices mixed in with the decadence of Kayne West in general I shudder to think what monstrosity of music is to be made with this venture. On one hand you have an text book definition of what an emcee should be and aspire to which is the Abstract Poetic Q-Tip who made the song “Sucka Niggas”, vs the guy who made “Niggas in Paris”…(I have stopped using asterisks when typing the name of this song).

I love the title of this upcoming album, “The Last Zulu”, because it seems to be a title that holds a lot of weight, but I fear the album will not given Q-Tip’s past records. However, I heard that 2009′s Kamaal/The Abstract wasn’t bad, so now I’ll take a listen. All this stems from not having a new Tribe Called Quest record which unfortunately will never happen (for Hip Hop).
