This is for the fans in sport cars to mini-vans
that came from broken homes
or driving in their dads mercedes benz
asking if I need a bag of that marijuana plant
to the one’s I haven’t met out in germany and france
saying don’t forget about us when you hit it big
and yeah I’d also like to thank the one’s who said I wasn’t shit
what you think that I don’t you know
I’m gonna pay for what I did
the alcohol had got me overweight and trying to suck it in
wish I wasn’t such angry kid I’d do it all again
when MC hammer was looking like a genie in a lamp
I’m trying to find a stable way of paying every month of rent
appreciate the messages you send me on the internet
an go ahead and do your thing cause I’ll just tell like it is
if they’ve read me like a book then what a book it must of been
for the hours that I’ve spent digging out a hidden gem
to older folks who blow us off look at us and shake their heads
wanna see how I react if they can push me to the edge
damn they really try take from you as much as they can get
must of thought I wasn’t there and that’s just music my ears
don’t get it twisted more than
chubby checker did with his career
cause its great to be here with you
but the moments that we’ve shared
I’ve had to juggle back and forth as it was a record player
sick of quick to get reminded of the way I ought to live
by who’s unhappy with their life that isn’t making any sense?
there’s so many of emcee’s who they came and then they went
their glory days have washed away
as if were castles made of sand
oh I’ve had a lot of fun and done a lot of crazy things
and the best is yet to come remember who you’re fucking with

It’s the man the myth the legend who’s dressed for his successes
the chance of major league has got me swinging for the fences
I live for going in and thinking big is my perspective
advancing with the grammar hammers anyone it catches
walking through cemeteries when life isn’t being cherished
it’s feels like forever since I heard unforgettable lyrics
using all of the elements put together
I’m husky like connecticut arrogant medicated american
rhymes open your mouth wider than a dental hygienist
who’s singing an irish song
while he’s swinging a pint of guiness
you’re really out your head if you think I’m over and jealous
the politics of the business I’m in is dirty as ever
some need to remember that I’m inventive with every sentence
who threw me under the bus and it felt like a bed of feathers
who couldn’t be more ghost then if they wrote these bars
yet act as if they threw a dart and hit the bulls eye part
I’m still as vicious with ambition fit to blow these parts
my quick decision intuition leaves you so distraught
yeah this is pedal to the metal instead of it get repetitive
better and better doing whatever cause you aren’t ready yet
the whole package with a pressure that’s on faster than
checking your phone text while you drive and your car crashes
so what’s an easy way to hunt a sitting duck
it’s when they do the minimum and yet expect live it up
I’ll send a message to competitors and fold my arms
there hard to find in california like a full-time job
while my thoughts are on sipping wine to get to know fine art
yet even though I don’t collect as if a phone lines charged
I’m too grown for all the devilish unintelligent menace
who’s storming through heaven gates
if they said I wasn’t intended
cause most of you cat’s aren’t even stretching beyond average
be glad that you fall flat on your back on a soft mattress

It’s the paper yet living this large is not the issue
wish it wasn’t such a mission to start what I continue
from signals that misread past the point extreme
to leave the argument like you can find me out on shit’s creek
arguing over I’m not full of broken promises
is like a junky trying dodge a street corner pharmacist
haven’t the foggiest of who’s my audience
unless your gonna talk I need to call it quits
and how it’s obvious?
I’ve seen the colors fade into a lack of courage
even after when I’m drunk enough to laugh at bridges burning
I’m sure if you can only imagine the total damage it’s had
on my sanity then you must be part of the planet
don’t even bother with yourself as being targeted
around how smart it is to be apart of this
without the confidence
a wall between us over how to live your life
I’ll write my name on your wall like graffiti in the night
nothings more liberating then when I don’t feel ashamed
to realize it wasn’t meant for me to find a early grave
but the time and energy I spend to hold the pen is risky
like both my wrists are bleeding
screaming are you coming with me
I wouldn’t be the kind to hit beneath the gut I’m obsessed
will you please get off my ding a ling and nuts
you can call me whatever I’ve been putting these words together
when biggie was just a capitol letter my flow was clever
I’m about it
they’re louder than on island and stranded yelling anyone there
surrounded by the waters advantage
overanalyze was not a plan of mine to grow as big
I’m my worst critic of everything that I ever did
this guy said he used to lift weights with me in his head
to find strength in the enemy and I was his friend
so hit the floor like in a store to rattle some poor bastard
of empty the cash drawer or your letting it off at him
you really out let the bullets turn us into swiss cheese?
then to me I’d be the most delicious piece of history
what’s the age for you to talk about the glory days
or walk around a dark cloud follows with the pouring rain
my good looks are fading faster by the minute
hearing nothing but your inner self that wants to be forgiven
I’m not above it I smile at the people in denial
who think how it is can only mean that I don’t put it down

Late night doesn’t fall by the waist side
I’ve wanted the sweet life the way that I see life
with it over a beat box the culture it needs us
I’m running a fever can the warrior keep up
and in order to design the formula each time
I’m more than emcee rhymes who I’ve wanted to be like
and I want you to rewind it’s important to me find
when your lift your head from staring at the ground
like your neck won’t give to take another route
when when I get like this
more distraction is not what I need if your ego won’t even
let you be happy for me
there’s old friends I haven’t said enough how much they meant
some of which that I don’t even think I’ve told them yet
you’re staring at mad flavor the wickedest track maker
and this the back breaker for things in a fast nature
I’m uninspired if I got you feeling less cool
try to imagine the stress of being successful
experience is how I’m willing to grow
I’m out to raise a child as if the child was one of my own
yeah it’s vicious the road to riches had to change my approach
to enjoy it for what it is and not for what I had hoped
it’s so refreshing no waiting I’ve celebrated my patience
the motivation I have to create and holding it sacred
you need to be you and not be them to process this
for thinking I just talk real slick I won’t expire
I’m hip hops sigh of relief you don’t agree than god
wanted you to die in your sleep
they keep telling me I’m this and that
but they know this shit is phat
what I’ve done and where I’m at no such thing as turning back
come on admit it I’m polished and photogenic
to witness a flow this vivid is living a mile minute
your mind is the only type of a prison I wanna visit
to look at the home you built for yourself and call it exquisite
my comfort level hey I’m willing the risk
till your thinking I’m ill enough to make the top of your list
I’m my greatest opponent homey and this moment is ours
and we want to blow your speakers like nobody does cause
my golden years to spend as I choose is document things
I did or went through to conquer them
this is why I wear my hat crooked
mistook it? this is why I wear my hat crooked

I don’t mean to make you worry it’s just I’m not giving in
I’m your tough for me to walk away from writing crazy kid
who always use to ask you for the definition of a word
how to use it in a sentence if it fit into my verse
you must of thought I’d grow out of this I understand
it’s not the safest bet I’ll live to see
I’m worth a million fans
baggy pants with my hat crooked looking for the stage
the same black hooded sweatshirt I wore days
but play me when you start your day
and get to feel what it’s like
to be the parents of an emcee who’s doing it right
just believe in me I’m gonna do whatever it takes
sleep well they’re the one’s who need to worry they’re safe
rest your head soon we’ll be together in each others arms
and we’ll celebrate for all the time we lost and been apart
I’ve hit a lot of bumps in the road that’s for sure
tell the rest of the family I’m at it even more
I’m the song chaser to grab as many as I can
don’t agree with many people and that’s just the way I am
I’m the strong natured individual with taste
who you brought into this world
and might of came from outer space
the foundation was set in the home you raised me
to give me every opportunity to be amazing
I’m sorry for the voicemail I know I’m hard to reach
I appreciate you calling leave a message at the beep
I’m caught thinking how I didn’t have a choice to be born
yet I’ll take advantage of living
for what’s keeping me on this path cruising
I’m different and I wasn’t as proud
when others made into struggle
of how my head’s in the clouds
it got confusing for a minute how to be my own man
and figure out a way to understand the lesson at hand
that this is bigger than their ego louder than their clothes
this is power to people with system by the throat
who’s been killing great minds with the murders unsolved
sweep it underneath the door mat and whistle a song
I can the rip the microphone from the night to early morning
with flavor that’ll keep you in the mood without a chorus
raw thought all heart born to rock and roll
through a lot cold shoulders they don’t think is getting old
remember when I told you years ago of how I’m blowing up
I’m still living large making songs like I don’t give a fuck
I’m gonna ride it out while I’m here as long as I can
generate a better way to live on how to advance
while there’s people steady telling me get in where I fit
and break it down like their in high school
at the age of thirty six
I’m too convinced I’m nice to lose this grip on tight
it doesn’t make sense to me not to reach new heights
see mom and dad this is not your fault the both of you did good
I’m well put together for the challenge of misunderstood
there’s a lot of people out there I don’t understand their pain
while I focus how I celebrate on what I’ve overcame
life reminds me of a mountain no one’s ever seen the top of
I wanna climb as high as I can get and meet the outcome
tearing through with this sound I’m in your ear
I’m do what I do now now I got the feeling
of I’m right where I should be loud and on your stereo
if I’m going nowhere then I’d rather be a miracle
it isn’t often it gets done like this
the pump pump lick a shot on a freestyle tip
and you might only get the bits and pieces of what I mean
it’s just another way to say I love you to a human being
even though I won’t go and tell a girl show me your tits
it doesn’t mean that if she did it I’d be mad at the chick
I’ve really had to keep my sense of humor over these years
and just appreciate I’m able to continue this here
tell everybody at home of how your son is doing well
remember he was making music? yeah that boy is something else
how he manages to handle his my head is left with bandages
we support that mutherfucker doing what he’s felt
that’s not quite how you’d put it but it gets me to smile
as if you said while in church to a family proud
I’m only kidding though you know I’m only having some fun
because it’s probably a weird thing to say to someone
our son raps like the people that you see on tv
can’t understand what he’s saying
moves his hands while he speaks
I can’t help the fact it’s got me feeling richer than rich
a mad scientist to give the world a reason to flip
on if their stuck in the mirror over beautiful and pretty
then it’s move along little one cause grown folks are busy
this is larger than your ego brighter than your clothes
this is power to the people with the system by the throat
mom and dad

I’m from where clocks move slower and the kid’s can’t lose
but you probably knew a few that had to drop out school
many who are on route to hit the war path soon as your watching the news
talk of how we’ve lost more troops
coming from my neighborhood we had a backyard pool
a mall rat walking round the stores or just pass through
and I managed to keep it cool as a pissed off youth
without wearing a trench coat with the combat boots
everyday I got awakened by the same old tune
it’s makes me think of all the different types of drugs I’ve used
but it’s a shame what went put me a hostile mood these obstacles
I’ve improved upon to drop these jewels
what a place to raise a family or start brand new and I’m the guy
who would refuse to let it stop my groove
backyard barbecues with a outdoor view as if a higher powers saying
may your dreams come true
where even if they have money they don’t flaunt much loot
I’m at the park, full court, on some watch these moves
though be aware of walking past dudes lost front tooth
gut hanging out of their shirt wearing velcro shoe’s
either they’ve never had a wash rag or owned shampoo
or I’m not surprised if they have a fast food tattoo
I’m sorry I’m not sorry if my contents rude
my attitudes you must of thought I had forgot my roots
eye’s huge like your pops is wearing high heel shoe’s
in a winter storm eating off a frozen popsicle
damn I remember when I use to have the small town blues
rap music wasn’t another way I saw cartoons
I had this girl confused who thought it wouldn’t take more proof
of it wasn’t the first time I got a bra strap loose
good people and everybody seems to know who’s who
you need some more variety I been too hopeful it gets

On sunny day’s I ate my breakfast out on my porch stoop
could hardly wait to play the arcade and take each fool
I’m from where you can join the group on a old bar stool
and it’s if you were put inside of a time capsule
a large house and would complain about it has no room
slept till noon and wasn’t ever kept well groomed
before I ever had a car to drive around on fumes
and jerk the wheel because a deer is in my headlights spooked
home late tip toeing cause I missed curfew
when older folks were squeezing you like it’s their orange juice
a lot to prove for I was born with the silver spoon
in cold temperature hoping it get’s warm out soon
to rally cap with a mouth full of a big league chew
when skate land roller rink had a DJ booth
got scrapbooks full of verses in how much I grew
had countless feuds over who put out the best albums
the energy we spend on how can we arrange these tunes
is speaking for itself enough to heal my low-life wounds
cause I would hate when folks assumed I was roughneck goon
but all this shit won’t loosen up by eating sun dried prunes
though if you feed the animal and disobey those rules
there’s no excuse when it’s ripping through your soft tissue
frameworks the uncle luke of this two live crew
I freak the beats nastier than what you’ve seen guy’s do
original, consistent, vocalist, you need more proof?
knowing I won’t be satisfied until I burn this roof?
then don’t be mad you bought a ticket and the shows cancelled
uncontrollable funk aroma stinging your nostrils I do it

She told me years ago was out every weekend used to love to dance
my goal is take her there to the place to reintroduce herself
she’s been through more than I’ve heard before what it’s done she hides it well
I want her to have a song to remind her it’s time she dance again oh!
she found me when I was in mud her voice yelled that life’s about change
I looked up and saw where I was couldn’t believe I’d dug my own grave
stuck between walls I made without safe for me to get out as deep as I’m placed
wiped my eye’s clean is this a nightmare I’m in
while I screamed and fought to escape no!
isn’t thy average type of woman when I see her face
strong as they come she’s like no other, she’s deserves the praise
the kind with no chip on her shoulder when she motivates
it inspires me she’s such a soldier blows me away

She’s given me the chance to make up for wrong I’ve done on my path so gracefully
in my corner been supportive she always reassures her faith in me
while I was at the bottom the more that I fought the more I can’t stand
no more than I got
headed towards more and more of I’m not with more than they have
in more than one spot to be
an old man who’s finding his worth too easily overlooked by this earth
with a strong pain I’ve held for so long to keep myself far from those I might hurt yet we’ve been together through the highs and lows
I’ll ride the wave when she get’s emotional defends who I am and walks the same beat of insecure thoughts will drive us crazy oh!
I’m thankful love you made it worthwhile to think unselfishly the moments you’ve brought to me have set me free the path was rough fighting in a war within a music scene they can hold what they have against me until their numb

She told me years ago was out every weekend used to love to dance
my goal is take her there to the place to reintroduce herself
she’s been through more than I’ve heard before what it’s done she hides it well
I want her to have a song to remind her it’s time she dance again
she’s my bright color when it’s dark and grey feels great to uncover what she’s done for me to shake your tail feather is an honor babe
cause you make my life better when I’m your team but dance hard as if you’re in the mirror let it catch you in the kitchen after showers in the bedroom
there’s plenty things for us to dwell upon I want it still to be
a major part of who you are to dance hard when nerves are unsettled or she gets blue to envision us together with a fresh groove swinging to it where the air is warm I cherish and adore the way nothing compares to her cause she and I we both were meant to dance on the floor she’s the type of girl who breaks a sweat
on her own to release of everything she can all night long until her clothes are soaking wet and the lights go up

and I mean this truly yours what is it that I’ve become
dwindling to nothing again to then filling up the ink pen with everything

You ready for any of the many bizarre facts a bit of the rhythm
and your feeling contact
I’ve done what I’ve had to do to improve and you can tell me
what you think about that? where you all at?
I gotta whole new thing to bring the funk put another with me in the ring
they leave a chump
nothing better then when necks down and up haven’t I made this
crystal clear enough
hustle hard and I’m quiet on a move in room full of heads
with there many point of views and I’m sure to be another one
that people don’t approve of
I remind you every time I rhyme you suck highly contagious underrated
make way for the mind of rhymes creative
when every lines like burning rubber on the pavement
what can I say? I’m nothing to play with this is what I wrote

Add a little bit of me mix it with the drums the economy of emcee’s
take another plunge
my name will invade your brain in great thought
I’ll raise the stakes high as maids in new york
open your mouth then I hold it there like windmills spinning
vivid in the open air
it just goes to show what you know for real my flows not even anywhere
close to here
amazed by the changes I’ve to had to make to fascinate people like their half awake
if that’s case still I got a lot to say and my critical thoughts get tossed away
as I blaze who lost faith in us to maintain enough to grow strength
from things that done changed
I’m making music or a brand new life is my hand on your throat
with a rambo knife
either take it to em or you wonder what it’s like how to dance with the devil
in the pale moonlight
no one can tell me what I’m doing isn’t nice and I’m feeling more than ever

I see myself in front of crowds as big as if you can imagine
your life without the possibility of a distraction
my state of mind is controlling my thoughts
to reach a level of emceeing no emcee has ever crossed
from going into places they don’t wanna hear my voice
and put a rhythm to their body like it doesn’t have a choice
and knowing who I am is knowing who I’ll become
so even when I took a loss I found the reason I won
the real loss is I decide if I’m no longer in rap
it’s everything I ever wanted you can quote me on that
I’m living my dream right now as weird as it seems
for people who don’t love a beat enough to know what I mean
grew up apart of the first emcee’s where I’m from that made a person
try to be the person I already was when a pair of turntables
decorated your place if only cut your gonna make is when your shaving your face
friends never use to talk about the good ole days
of with a future so bright they had to put on shades
we had the same people out to fuck us over on assignment
to ride it out hornier than inner city driving
on our own or disappearing with time that’s why I’m here
nobody has a spirit clearer than mine
the kind of emcee when all I came to do is perform
they wanna battle like they thought they heard their name in a song
I’m on a path that’s gonna redefine the meaning of rap
until it’s easier to take your own life and come back
the only reason why the music’s getting harder to sell
is cause it’s time they figure out they sound like everyone else, and it’s why

you need to understand how much it took for me to be here
before you’re telling how much I need to change my idea’s?
cause if you know that there’s a sun above the clouds when it rains
then my answer to your questions been already explained
and if you wanna talk about if there’s a struggle I hold?
it’s my decision to continue it or grow on my own
I was the kid that didn’t wanna live as long I as I have
I use to be a lot older than as young I am
so I don’t need advice on what I need to do to be rich
by any of you if you aren’t someone who already is
I’ve been the problem for almost everyone that I’ve known
that I’ve keeping others from me of getting too close
I found it easier to deal with things when no one’s around
then I become the only reason why I’m bringing me down
my heart is strong enough to make you take a look at yourself
and change the way you’re gonna think in front of somebody else
I understand if you’re mad but this is who I am
and this is what I know now I wish I knew back then
I’m not inspired anymore by other people I’ve heard
I’m inspired I continue on with writing these words
it’s my life my decisions and it’s full of mistakes
but how I’m living wasn’t meant for if I’m playing it safe
to rip a man so bad that who he’s kicking with
his chick is going home as though her dick was bigger than his
I’m here to make you lose your mind as if you’re on the desert sand
where the things can disappear like they were never even there
go and act as though there’s nothing I can say or do
I’m always gonna have me whether with or without you
right now another rapper got arrested for bail
an can’t wait for their mugshot taken in jail
keep fighting over nothing just to get me to watch
I’m too busy thinking having everything that I want, and it’s because

It’s a cold drink in your hand summer jam while you’re outdoors
go ahead and add me to the list you can count on
to play it when you wanna feel the air more
rolling down the windows cruising through your local ant farm
it’s unbelievable how clear today appears for a moment to enjoy what’s in your ear that you can steer towards
I gather footage put it in you like a cam cord and save it as a memory
to keep you on the dance floor
I’ll understand it if I’ve caught you with your pants off
down around your ankles how were making such an anthem
but every summer that we have their always has one
I’m here to let you know where you can get the sound from
I got the weather telling me to take the chance to embrace
we go together like we were holding hands, ugh
relax and slide into the groove I’m coming with as the temperature combines
look how beautiful it is, huh
the minimum of clothes you wear to be prepared
when the sun is hot enough to turn the water into sand and the parties never end yet they need a loud thump to get the people screaming
like a bunch of town drunks, with my
words feeling good as doing the deed as though could turn a war zone
into shooting the breeze
the time of my life is what the drums give to my lungs
I’m blowing speakers with another one to show how it’s done, come on

I’m for the early morning coffee with the sun in your face
to be apart of what it’s holding from the moment you wake
and I’m around a tall tree to climb branching out
while these others still haven’t figured how to chop me down I’m about
the bass straight pounding lyrics fresh made hitting hard enough
to break your mutherfucking chest plate the sun as big as criticism
that you’re living with I’m young and driven by the rhythm to envision it
but what a day it is to put away those images
continuing to pick your brain of what the devils mission is
summer brought my first record to hold got milk crates in the back
of a grocery store
alone for hours trying to figure out the way of the pro’s
broke so many crossfaders when I started at home
I keep on telling emcee’s don’t lose what you have
for you to make yourself better you just do what you can ha
yet when I bring the kind of drama that you’re looking for
they’re feeding off the need to be more of an attention whore
even wrote this at the beach on a postcard for me to have a scenic view
fresher than my own thoughts
live it how you wanna live it I’m thinking a mile a minute
of my opinion of why I’m here to visit life
I’ve written till I’m the image of is he winning?
or is it a cry for help to admit that’ll he’ll never get it right?
the real thing from losing more than I’ve won
and you don’t have to like me to respect the things that’s I’ve done
cause I’ve imagined at least over half of you rap fans
being met with lit cigarette and a gas can

I shatter molds when my data’s thrown contagious I pass it on to others
create some kind of high that doesn’t ever low
so if you listen to it cool if not then keep it moving
cause I’m feeling good off what I do and I don’t wanna ruin this mood
I’m over it I got my own pair of speakers
hitting hard enough to smoke out from being in the room
things have changed I still bring it in
and keep a swing like I been drinking more than what I can, you
may not believe it till you see me going wild
that I don’t make it look as though to flow is difficult to crowds, true
I’m lifted with ism quick to spot a downer
out to put their cloudy thoughts into my sky that doesn’t have them
twisted, laughing at the mess, I got myself into another
jam, as funky as who said he’s proud to be his color
take a ride with me, live emcee, drama in the wind
I go by many names such as who the fuck he think he is, I’m in

Slow mode, I was racing at a fast pace, oh no, I was running on a wheel like
Where did this come from? there’s never enough done
I must be in love again to see as clear as, let it go

The let me do my thing material I kick is not restricted
pick another way to front it’s nothing to me when I’m lifted
another jam for underground heads is what I am
the musical discoveries I find rewind and tell a friend to put their hands up
don’t act like their in handcuffs and dig it
cause there’s no need to spill your guts around this blunt I’ve written
it’ll all be over soon we’re the group that’s coming up
but not until we make the kids who say they love us say we suck
thanks for noticing
I’m vocal overdosing rhymes critiqued and with plenty that I feel
as much as cripples do their feet
celebrate and laugh every track the fact we made it further
to reflect on what we had to do to get to where were at
taking the motivation from a show when only few were there to see us
yeah you best believe it keeps me in the lab, this is how I live
open arms, paradise, in every song with the ease of a tropical beach
on microphones higher than I’ve ever gone feet in the sand
as if the summer breeze wants me to know that it’s there, I’m in

Slow mode, I was racing at a fast pace oh no, I was running on a wheel like
Where did this come from? there’s never enough done I must be in love again
to see as clear as let it go

I’m fun loving underneath the creature stirring from the hurdles
and turning the world into a track and field without a break
when you’re without a deal you have to grind it out and keep promoting
undiscovered been too much for me to take
it’s as if I’m buttons like a drum machine on one’s I’ve never met
who hear me rhyme and size me up with budgets that their working with
and what I’ve been through is no comparison to overcoming
what it would of done unless I hadn’t let it take me under
don’t even try to guilt trip was born and raised catholic
that’s turning people into things that no one had imagined
could use a raise either way another classic album
has a margarita taste while on vacation type of power
rock on to the beat box boogie to drop whether hip hops ready or not
you can get back to me I’m hot and I mean that fully no hurry
cause it won’t stop me from the top I’ll survive and blow up the spot
with a rhyme I’m holding that’s control of your motor a lot
the engine revving as if wants to be competitive
isn’t the only way that I can ride an instrumental that knocks
till it lifts your feet out your socks and your breathing patterns are if your
fleeing the scene from the cops I’m getting props forever
the record stores don’t have us in stock, but you can hear us down the street
from the cars on your block, while in

Refusing to fall short of using my art form views

Hip Hop Elements, The Producers Interview with Rex Rey (Producers are a fundamental part of all musi

Hip Hop Elements, The Producers Interview with Rex Rey

(Producers are a fundamental part of all music they arrange the music and create the beats that make us move and dance. Today we are going to talk to Rex Rey a producer who will walk us through creating a beat and explain what and who is Rex Rey. Please enjoy this interview and the insight that was shared with awwman.net)

(Awwman)Can you tell everyone who you are and what you have done?

(Rex Rey)My name is Nicholas King and I produce under the moniker Rex Rey, I did a folk album under Nicholas King called the Nautical Mile in 2003 and mastered pressed it in 2010. Most recently I produced a project called Windmills with emcee Framework from the Vermont hip hop crew, “The Loyalists”and I’ve also released an album called Classic Hip Rock with my best friend Christopher called “Coachella Valley Syndrome”… it’s classic rock meets old school hip hop

(Awwman)I did get a chance to check out some of the music and would it be an accurate to say that you have a unique feel and vibe?

(Rex Rey)I think I do. I don’t feel like I’m ever limited to one genre.. I grew up on all kinds of music and it definitely shows in the music.. even in the hip hop you can hear a myriad of influences

(Awwman)What I appreciate about your production is the scratching, it gives me the feel of classic hip hop. Can you explain your sound?

(Rex Rey)One band I’ve been listening to since I was a teenager was Mr. Bungle. I always admired that they could take on anything whether it was a Burt Bacharach cover or crazy death metal or avant guard jazz. It’s important to remember the hip hop culture of scratching, break dancing, graffiti and emceeing… thats what I love about hip hop, its those elements. Framework from Windmills does most of the cuts on the Classic Hip Rock album and obviously the Windmills material. It’s great to be able to take lines from other emcees in homage and at the same time create new fresh material.

(Awwman)I agree a hundred percent you have to know where you came from, so you know where your going. Since we are talking about your style and influence, can you briefly go through the process of creating music, from creating a beat to writing lyrics or selecting an artist to be on a track as a feature?

(Rex Rey)The message is definitely important and I think songs work best when you have a clear idea of what your message is… you believe it and then your audience believes it. I usually go into the studio and go through looking for drum breaks and then I cut those up. I like to layer sounds… I might lay a fat bass line down over the drums.. then pick a guitar up… I’ll usually have ideas in my head which I’ll translate through a sample or live instrument.I’m not a rapper but I do write a lot of lyrics for my folk music and I wrote lyrics for the windmills album sung choruses… but I usually choose words by the way the sound first not what they actually mean but usually that just comes. I don’t really choose emcees to work with…the ones I’ve worked with have just happened one way or another. If I like the lyrics and the voice of a rapper I think that’s most important…For example I met Framework, the emcee in my Windmills project on a Craigslist ad by chance. I listened to samples of his music and I liked what I heard… I sent him a beat via e-mail and we took it from there. A year later we finished our albumMR.CTA, (Christopher) the emcee on Classic Hip Rock is a long time friend. We both have been listening to hip hop together for over 10 years and we wanted to make a fun hip hop project and I think we succeeded.that album took a lot longer.. we started in 03 and finished late last year

(Awwman)The computer age is something, now you don’t need to be in the same state or country to collaborate with artist. How does that help or hurt a project?

(Rex Rey)It helps a project because sometimes circumstance lead to that being the only way to collaborate. Framework lives about 2 hours from me and would make the trip to my studio every few weeks on his days off. It can hurt a project because sometimes it’s hard to stay on the same page with the person you’re working with and you have to make the best use of the windows you do have. Sometimes sending a beat to someone isn’t as personal as writing the song from the ground up together. You have to work harder to make it sound organic when your working long distance

(Awwman)You hear more computer generated sounds now in hip hop, but i see you do play instruments, can you tell us what instruments do you play and how you feel about program sounds?

(Rex Rey)I studied piano as a child and into my early teens. Then I stopped playing until my junior year in high school when I picked up the electric bass and continued with piano. I also studied classically on the double bass and played in orchestras. I can play pretty much most string instruments, guitar, banjo etc. I really like program sounds, especially drums… synths are great and I tend to like analog sounds… sampling off vinyl is a must… analog delays and pedalscheck out the track “welcome to planet earth” for the programed drums sounds off the Windmills album

(Awwman)Lets switch gears for a second, can you think of an experience in dealing with the industry that may have been the turning point or crossroads for your career?

(Rex Rey)I really haven’t had any turning points…except possibly going to music school… I’m thankful that I was able to get so much out of school even without finishing…. I guess I’m trying to make the crossroad happen right now, you know? I think right now is a crossroad for me. I’ve been developing my skills for the last 10 years when it comes to playing, recording, mixing and producing and I feel like I’m at a level I’m comfortable with as an artist. I’m just gonna push it from here

(Awwman)How do you cope with the ups and downs of creating music, gaining fans and maintaining a high level of professionalism in the music?

(Rex Rey)I kind of make music for myself in some ways… since I’m a music fan at heart I feel if I can satisfy myself then I’m half way there. I have an attitude that I can always improve and get better so I put that into the music. It’s not easy though… it takes a lot of time and dedication and it’s also difficult as a guy behind the boards to take things out and do my setup live so I have to come at it from the internet to really make an exposure. That’s why I’ve been putting the music out there for people to listen to for free…. it’s one way to develop fans and there’s no risk to them to come listen.

Windmills Album Free Download http://yousend.it/e1SKeW

(Awwman)If you were the head of a major label or an A&R what types of things would you look for in up and coming talent?

(Rex Rey)Not sure…I would look for someone who is trying to do new things with their music regardless of what genre they’re coming from. Someone who has integrity and wouldn’t sell out and do a pepsi commercial

(Awwman)How do you feel about the music industry right now in regards to artist’s that are out now.

(Rex Rey)I’m not crazy about the music industry but I’d like to see more dope hip hop on the radio… I’d like to see the return of Yo MTV Raps.. I really enjoy the freshness of Odd Future… I hope they take over everything!

(Awwman)Thats funny you mention Odd Future, i did a article on their issue with B.O.B and i asked the question do you think the industry manufactures beefs to exploit and push album sales, so i’m going to ask you the same question.

(Rex Rey)Yeah I think they have to… it’s reality tv you know.. that’s what the american public loves.it’s all about the marketing dollar

(Awwman)Wow i’m glad your honest about itlol

(Rex Rey)It doesn’t have to be… it’s a little bit maddening.

(Awwman)For artist that are coming into the game do you have any tips or words of advice for them to have a long lasting career?

(Rex Rey)The obvious thing is to not doubt yourself.. at least for me it’s been an easy thing to do and I’m constantly reminding myself. You get better at it as your skills improve and if you channel the energy the right way you can use it to keep yourself always evolving and making better music. There are great examples of popular artists that keep their sound fresh and innovated such as Radiohead, Tom Waits, Tool.. I think these are great artists that succeed and show that you can keep your integrity and make relevant music.

(Awwman)what music do you own that is in the cd player at home or in the car or on your ipod

(Rex Rey)Antony & The Johnsons “Crying Light”, Fugee’s “Blunted On Reality” Tyler The Creator “Yonkers” John Zorn Book of Angeles w/ Banquet of the Spirits, Cyro Baptista, Dalek “Abandoned Language” are some of the CDs on my car floor which make it steadily into my player. I’d say that some hip hop guys I really enjoy Automator (Deltron 3030, Dr. Octogon, New Jesery’s dalek, EPMD, De La Soul) But also I’m influenced by a lot 21st century classical music… Xenakis, Ligiti, Mauricio Kagel… the minimilism of Terry Riley & Philip Glass…

(Awwman)Final question, how can artist that would like to collaborate with you get in touch with you to send you samples of there work.

(Rex Rey)they can e-mail me at kingrexrey@gmail.comAlso they can download Windmills – As Above So Below here http://yousend.it/e1SKeW, We’re working on a follow up by the end of 2011… and I’m also doing a follow up called Southwell to my Nautical Mile folk album. Thanks for the interview!

(Awwman)We at awwman.net would like to thank you for taking time out of your day to chop it up with up with us about you as a producer and what you have going on, thank you again.

Producer Rex Rey offers a trip across genres, from the catchy hip hop of “Son of the Desert” to the smooth retro of “LA River.” MR.CTA’s lyrics are the stuff of an awkward past, filled with stories of Palm Desert adolescence and self-deprecation. His clever riffs, delivered in an ever-changing cadence, never allow us to take him too seriously and that seems to be just what he wants. Rex Rey breaks in every once in a while with his haunting voice, punctuating the songs with a soulful urgency. Coachella Valley Syndrome is an album clearly unafraid to bend the rules and delivered with a smirk.
Here’s a link below to the entire album..
http://classichiprock.bandcamp.com/

I was 19 when I started writing many of the songs for the Nautical Mile. I lived in the 100 degree desert heat of the Coachella Valley…miles from anything nautical, save the Salton Sea. More precisely, the desert was where this record began.
It took time– working as the assistant to the conductor of the local community orchestra in addition to working at a southwestern bar and grill at minimum wage + tips –to save enough money to buy my first digital recorder. But as soon as I purchased it, I started recording. While I was part of the pit orchestra in a small production of the musical, “Dammed Yankees” in Riverside, I met a drummer who agreed to learn four songs and give me a few hours to record. I brought out my minimal microphone setup to Riverside and we knocked it out.
About a week later I decided to move with my brother and a good friend to West Lafayette, Indiana on a whim. Where else do you go when you’re broke and looking for inspiration? My grandfather who is featured later in the album and the subject matter of the song, “Skiing In Mexico,” had a 13-acre dilapidated estate, and offered us free lodging, a pond, poison ivy, and plenty of tirades about the of digital modern era.
I picked a room on the second floor of his creaky, but spacious abode and set up my equipment. This is where I began recording the bass and vocal parts of the album. The incredible amount of accumulated pollen, dust, and other toxicity–some of which came from the nauseating reek of a local dog food factory–clogged my sinuses while I recorded a great majority of the vocals. I remedied this problem by constantly dosing with nasal spray between takes.
After seven cold months of hard-drink and fast-eat, between arguments with my 85-year-old grandfather, I finally decided I could not endure The Crossroads of America any longer. So I drove back the way I had come, the 10 West, passing the desert altogether and into the heart of Los Angeles. I needed the Pacific to quench the aridity of my Midwest experience.
But it took me some time to settle…I never did find the tranquility. I was still on rough waters trying to stay afloat in Hollywood. I continued to write and amass songs while I worked as a production assistant on a Sony financed television show. This enabled me to buy a few more decent microphones and finally in 2003, I decided to pull out the old recordings and expand on what I had. During a production hiatus I used an executive’s corner office to set up recording shop with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. I added new songs; guitar, bells, banjo, and tuba to tracks.
By the time I was done, the bottle was finished and the last drops were poured neat, sitting in a car in Inglewood with a buddy listening to the mixes. I had, at that time, mixed down the album myself. My good friend and artist Henry Membreño offered to paint and photograph my conception of water, self reflection and inability to dry oneself out. I used a company printer to make 50 copies of the artwork which I cut, folded, and placed into slim jewel cases. A few years later the digital recorder decided not to work and was beyond repair. I said, “Hell! Well this is it! This is the culmination of what I’ve been through.” So here in 2010–at 30 years old–clinging to a buoy, I decided to master the record and print it properly.
It is now either sink or swim.

Here’s a link below to the entire album..

In reality, the War was just a diversion! The Colonists had no chance of succeeding in their efforts

In reality, the War was just a diversion! The Colonists had no chance of succeeding in their efforts. Examine the facts for yourself! During this era; England had the largest Army and Navy in the World. King George owned England, Ireland and France, having a combined population of about 60 million subjects. The Colonists were poorly educated, poorly armed and composed of farmers, tradesmen, bonded slaves, women and children and boasted a total population of only 3 million subjects. And considering the undermining that was occurring to their nation by the Kings spy’s and the Founding Fathers; the Colonists didn’t have a prayer of defeating the English!

Americans have been indoctrinated by our federal and state governments and through government controlled public schools and literature; government controlled media and government controlled churches [YES, EVEN THE CHURCHES]; to believe that America defeated the English! We celebrate that victory and our so-called Independence each year on the 4th of July, and it is all a bunch of propaganda; a carrot to lead the horse and keep this society stupid and passive! We boast today that our country represents the finest schools in the world, but in reality, we’re no smarter than the first Colonists! We only know more about other things because of new technology developments during the last 250 years and yet the average IQ of America is 70.

Documented proof that the Constitution was not for us can be found at: Padelford, Fay & Co. v. The Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Savannah, [14 Georgia 438, 520]. This was a Court case wherein the Plaintiffs sued the City of Savannah, for violating what they believed were their constitutionally protected rights! The decision of the Judge says it all: “But indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in Court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution, the Constitution, it is true, is a compact but he [the private person] is not a party to it!” [Emphasis added]

The United States Constitution was converted into a (Trust) and the legal definition of a Trust is: “A legal obligation with respect to property given by one person (donor), to another (trustee), to the advantage of a beneficiary (Americans).” The property in this Trust includes all land, your personal possessions that you believe you own and your physical body. The donor of the Trust is the King of England and the Holy Roman Church. The Trustee’s are all federal and state public officials, which means that they truly are Agents of a foreign power; the King and the Vatican.
