Another day, another woman.

Almost two-weeks have passed since Tiger Woods’ Thanksgiving car crash and the revelations just keep on coming.

With no less than ten women alleged to have been involved in extra-curricular activities with the married pro-golfer, we take a look at the latest tally of the 31-year-olds’ score card…

1. Rachel Uchitel - The first mistress to be linked to Woods after The National Enquirer reported that she travelled to Australia to be with him during a golf tournament. The club hostess has denied an affair, but it’s widely believed that the golf-pro bought her discretion to the sum of £1 million after pulling the plug on a press conference at the last-minute, following a series of secret phone calls with Woods’ reps.

2. Jaimee Grubbs – The 24-year-old cocktail waitress, who also appeared on VH1’s Tool Academy claims she had a 31-month-long liaison with Woods since April 2007 up to his now infamous crash. Opening up to Us Weekly, she provided a voicemail recording, allegedly of Woods, calling Grubbs after fearing his wife, Elin Nordegren, had found out about their trysts.

3. Kalika Moquin – The 27-year-old, Las Vegas nightclub manager supposedly hooked-up with the golfing billionaire, according to a report by Life & Style magazine. Moquin has neither confirmed nor denied an affair, simply stating: “It’s not appropriate for me to comment one way or the other. At this time, I’m just choosing to focus on my job.”

4. Jamie Jungers - The 26-year-old cocktail waitress and aspiring model professes she had an 18-month romance with Woods after meeting him in Las Vegas. Jamie would purportedly meet the golf legend for sex at his California home where it’s claimed they would romp surrounded by wedding snaps of Woods and his wife.

5. Cori Rist – The 31-year-old swimsuit model reportedly met Woods at a Manhattan club last year before they began a sexual relationship that led to the star flying her out to various secret locations for play-time. Cori, who has even introduced the golfer to her 7-year-old son, has played her cards close to her chest since the scandal broke, only saying “No comment. Not at this time.”

6. Mindy Lawton – The 33-year-old revealed to the News of the World that she began a one-year affair with Tiger in May 2006, while his wife Elin was pregnant with their first child. According to the New York Post their ‘relationship’ was covered up by The National Enquirer two years ago, after a damning photo of Woods indiscretion with the waitress led to a Men’s Fitness cover in exchange for the magazine’s silence about the alleged affair.

7. Holly Sampson – According to The Sun, the 36-year-old porn star from Los Angeles is the seventh woman alleged to be connected with Woods. Sampson’s film work includes such jewels as Descent into Bondage and Diary of a Horny Housewife.

8. Unidentified Orlando Woman - A former cocktail waitress, she does not want to reveal her identity yet, according to attorney Michael O’Quinn. At the time the relationship supposedly began, she was 20-years-old and met Woods at the Roxy in Orlando, where she was a VIP server.

9. Unidentified British Broadcaster - Rumours continue to swirl of a hook-up between the golfer and a ’sexy’ British TV presenter who was single at the time but is now married. 

10. Unidentified ‘Cougar’ – Reports of dalliances with an older woman known so far only as a “sex-addicted cougar.”

Phew! We had to stop and eat a sandwich halfway. Of course if Woods really did dabble with all these women, then only one question remains…How did he have time to actually play golf?

Golden Child No More

P.R. Mess, that is.

As anyone reading this blog is aware, Tiger Woods was involved in what was termed “a serious accident” on Thanksgiving night.  He had driven his SUV into a tree at some point in the early morning and sustained injuries to the face — and that was all that was known, or at least all that was released.

When I first read the news bit, I knew something was fishy.  First of all, there was no denial of intoxication.  Perhaps even more importantly, there was no discussion of intoxication whatsoever — they didn’t even say “it is not known whether or not Mr. Woods was intoxicated.”

The timing was poor.  Some would argue that the release of scandal on the eve of a holiday is a way to cushion the landing — see, for example, Sarah Palin’s announcement of resignation as Alaska governor…on the eve of the Fourth of July.  You miss the newscycle — or at least miss a critical mass of people watching the newscycle.

But Thanksgiving is far different from Fourth of July.  On Fourth of July, people aren’t watching the news because they’re out stuffing themselves on hamburgers, getting suburnt, and blowing off appendages.  On Thanksgiving, the vast majority of America has been pushed off into TV rooms and dens to watch television while they wait for dinner, digest dinner, or lazy through the day after.  And this wasn’t just any scandal — this was a sports-related scandal.  On one of the biggest single sports-watching four-day weekends of the year.  It wasn’t a blessing that the incident occurred on a national holiday; it was a P.R. curse.

Which is part of the reason the situation wouldn’t go away, as Tiger Woods no doubt wished it would.  Woods is notoriously private — about his training regimes and golf-related activities especially, but also about his family and personal matters.  His approach to the incident, then, was to say very little at all.  No spin — and relative silence — was the best spin.  Or so he apparently thought.

So let’s break it down.  How did Tiger end up with this big mess?

1.) HE SUCCESSFULLY KEPT HIS PRIVATE LIFE UNDER WRAPS.

When you release so little information about yourself — outside of your very controlled statements concerning your sports skill — you become an enigma.  Woods is ridiculously wealthy, but we don’t get to see him spend it.  He’s married to a gorgeous Swede and they have a gorgeous child, but we rarely get to see them — and he rarely talks about them.  So the built up curiosity was there — even if subconsciously — and waiting to explode.  In theoretical terms, he was attempting to assert that the ‘real Tiger Woods’ (his ‘authentic’ self) was what you saw on the fairway, in highly controlled interviews, and in his dozens of advertising deals.

2.) THUS, WHEN AN ADDITIONAL LAYER OF ‘SELF’ WAS REVEALED, THE MEDIA WENT CRAZY.

As if blood into a shark tank.  Richard DeCordova has convincingly argued that the emergence of stars in early Hollywood was a multi-tiered process — as each new ‘layer’ of the people on the screen were revealed, each became the new site of truth.  At first, a star’s extratextual activities provided that source of truth.  But with the eruption of the Fatty Arbuckle and Wallace Reid scandals in the 1920s, scandal (or the disclosure of scandal) became the only true means of arriving at the ‘authentic’ identity of the self.  DeCordova is following the work of Foucault, who has long asserted that knowledge of sex (illicit or transgressive sex in particular) has come to be regarded as the most true and authentic avenue to the self.  Put differently, knowing a person in bed (or knowing about how a person is in bed) is tantamount to knowing the ‘real him’ or ‘real her.’  Of course, this has everything to do with the construction of sexual activity through discourse — and the particularly American practice of shadowing sex with shame.    Woods not only revealed that there was a deeper level to excavate — he wasn’t always cool and under control! — but, as the day went on, that that deeper level was somehow ‘off,’ potentially in a sexual way.

(To approach the issue somewhat differently, I’d argue that Woods’ image was too ‘univocal’ to absorb the shock of a scandal.  Adrienne McLean has argued that the reason that Ingrid Bergman’s star image was unable to absorb the hit of her scandal with Rossellini was that her star image was so wholly (and unflexibly) that of the virginal, righteous, pure girl from the North.  (She contrasts the ramifications of Bergman’s scandal with a similar ‘transgression’ associated with Rita Hayworth — because Hayworth had created a complex, nuanced star image that included a ‘desire to be loved,’ her marriage to Aly Kahn was naturalized and accepted, even celebrated.  In contrast, Bergman was denounced *on the senate floor.*  Crucially, like Woods, Bergman had refused to cooperate with Selznick and others who hoped to craft her image into something more nuanced; as a result, it was near-wholly based on her film roles, just as Woods’ was near-wholly based on his appearances on the golf course.

3.) NOT SAYING ANYTHING = SAYING EVERYTHING

By late Friday night, everyone knew something was up.  The stories began to shift.  Things didn’t add up.  Some people made the connection between The National Enquirer story revealing a Woods affair, published Wednesday, and the Thursday blow-up.  Over the course of the weekend, speculation exploded:  his wife was attacking him with a golf club. (Which, as someone pointed out to me, is rather hilarious: like Kobe Bryant being pummeled with sneakers).   She scratched up his face.  She chased his car.  He was passing in and out of consciousness.  He had cheated.  The situation was likened to that of Chris Brown and Rihanna.

By not shutting down or guiding discourse though his own P.R., statements, or any other type of damage control, Woods allowed the discourse to go in all directions.

4.) DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE (INVESTIGATIVE) GOSSIP PRESS

As I’ve asserted several times on this blog, some of the best investigative journalism comes from the gossip press.  This was true during the time of Confidential; this was especially true for The National Enquirer, especially following the tightening of libel laws in the 1980s; it’s even more true today, when TMZ routinely scoops traditional news outlets.  And they do it with more accuracy, detail, and speed.  It’s difficult for us to think of ‘tabloids’ as journalistic, simply because what they cover is oftentimes not regarded as ‘newsworthy.’  But to get to the truth of what happens in an event — using interviews, surveillance tapes, 911 calls, cell phone messages, even bribes — that’s certainly investigative journalism, even if you might not call it entirely ethical. 

TNE had the first story of the mistress — one that might have been easily forgotten, if not for the explosive aftermath.  TMZ has posted dozens of updates, challenging the stories of Tiger Woods, his wife, and even the official statements of the police with actual footage, eye-witness testimony, etc.  And US Weekly entered the fray yesterday, dropping a bombshell of past and current philanderering on the part of Woods.  The gossip press got the goods — and if the speed of publication, as well as the amount of dirt they obtained, is any evidence, they got them easily.

5.) TIGER IS A GREAT GOLFER.  BUT HE’S A SHITTY CELEBRITY.

He didn’t cover his tracks.  He didn’t have a password on his cell phone.  He left messages on his mistresses voicemails.  He had relationships with several women — many of them young (21!) and ready to brag.  One alleged mistress still has over 300 text messages from him.  He didn’t cover his tracks.  He had no defense plan.  And he somehow expected none of this to effect his public image.

Just look to his first real attempt at P.R., released today:

…Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.

But no matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don’t share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one’s own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn’t have to mean public confessions. (Statement available in full here).

I understand his argument.  A person’s private — sexual — actions are, for most people, indeed just that: private.  If Tiger Woods chose to remain a sports figure alone — winning The Masters, winning everything, but staying a golfer and no more — perhaps he would have isolated himself from public scrutiny of his private life.  But part of what makes Tiger Woods Tiger Woods is his public visibility: not only due to the color of his skin (over which he obviously has no control) and his resultant uniqueness, but, more importantly, through his endorsement deals.  Over $1 billion worth.  The reason he is a celebrity — and not just a golfer — is that his face is EVERYWHERE.  In the pages of The New Yorker selling watches, all over Sports Illustrated and ESPN selling golf gear, in newspapers, billboards, car commercials, The Wall Street Journal, credit card ads, Gilette Razors, all that is Nike, you name it.

Mindfully holding back on all the potential snark that could be unleashed using the rhetoric of above advertisements

The significance, of course, is that a celebrity is chosen to endorse a deal BECAUSE of their public image.  If not, why not choose another good looking man to say they use a particular product?  Wood’s image is of excellence — but also of the absence of scandal.  Of dedication and drive.  Not extra-marital affairs.  When a company pays Woods to appear in association with their products, they are hitching their good name to his.  When scandal erupts, that scandal extends to those companies, even if only by association.

My contention, though, is not necessarily that the press has the right to know everything about every celebrity.  Rather, if a celebrity — and Woods is a celebrity and a public figure, no matter how much he bemoans the fact — chooses to do things that read as scandalous, he must protect himself against the ramifications, either ahead of time or in the aftermath.

Tiger Woods refused to do either of these things, instead passing blame to the press and its audience.  He may admit to ’sins,’ but his insinuation — that WE are the ones who are, in truth, at fault — is as elitist as it is absurd.  Each of us certainly contributes to celebrity journalism and scandal mongering through readership.  But the idea that a man who has willingly and mindfully made himself into a public figure should have a right to privacy is absurd.  Would he also like us to give him his privacy while he plays golf?  Leave him alone when he tells us to buy watches?  Not tune in to watch him put on the Master’s jacket?

I realize that he is attempting to make a distinction between his public image — which he wishes to be available for consumption — and a private one.  As evidenced by the case of Robert De Niro, whose anti-stardom I profiled a few weeks back, this is certainly not impossible.  But you have to play by the rules — a maxim that Woods, of all people, should know by heart.

Get this: I wish that I could tell the cops three times that I don’t want to talk to them when there’s been a major incident in my life. That’s what having big money–or living in Florida–gets you. Tiger Woods = buckshot shooter Dick Cheney.

I think him getting out of the house was a good idea. And that he didn’t put his hands on her. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a quiet resolution to whatever was eating at them at 2:00 a.m.

I’m not even going to say anything else except provide links. When Monday breaks, it’s gonna be hell. Everyone is now saying Tiger Woods has something to hide. Most probably the state of his face. If he looks like he’s been hit with the ugly stick or that golf club by his wife, Elin may go to the slammer for spousal abuse, and their marriage hits an unprecedented nadir. Fess up, stupid. Let the cops in and explain. If Elin has to be booked, then she has to. It’s way out there in the open now. TMZ has been running with the ball all weekend long. Fess up! Whoever is advising you is giving you bad, bad counsel. Speaking via your web page? Sheesh!

Tiger to friend: “I have to run to Zales to get a ‘Kobe Special” to placate Elin’s anger. When asked what that was, Woods’ replied, “A house on a finger.” Refer to Kobe Bryant’s rape case in Colorado and what he used to mollify his wife’s anger. A rock the size of the island of Hawaii, and could probably buy a slice of it as a down payment.

Party girl and serial adultress Rachel Uchitel runs to attorney Gloria Allred–of all people–for help. Oh, hell. You’ve got to be kidding me on this.

Some brothers in Maryland who run East Coast Bias suggests some plausible, and not so plausible explanations Tiger and his handlers could try out for size.

It’s gonna be one of those manic Mondays.

That’s what TMZ.com is saying, that this whole thing is strictly domestic. Husband and wife argued about a third wheel–rumored to be Rachel Uchitel. Those lacerations on his face and head? All from Mrs. Woods–and her little golf club. Well, someone else in the family knows how to swing one…as The First Church of Tiger Woods as well as TMZ.com can also testify.

Tiger Woods did not suffer facial lacerations from a car accident. They were inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren — according to a conversation Woods had Friday after the accident.

Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol — that should happen this afternoon. But we’re told Tiger had a conversation Friday — with a non-law enforcement type — detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant.

We’re told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We’re told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV — but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.

We’re told Woods became “distracted,” thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree.

We’re also told Woods had said during the conversation Friday he had been taking prescription pain medication for an injury, which could explain why he seemed somewhat out of it at the time.

Well, how have the mighty fallen. Here I was thinking that him focusing on his wife’s pregnancies was slowing up his game. It’s not that; it’s bouncing several blonde babes who nearly resemble each other at the same time that’s been screwing up his “A game.”

This is something even his cheating Creole daddy wouldn’t have been able to fix while alive.

What an idiot. Is that all it comes down to? Nooky on demand? He’s got everything, so what does he want now? The ruin of his career? Joining these other sad souls on the covers of People and National Enquirer full of money and power and unhappiness? It’ll fall away, Tiger. Everything will fall away if you don’t recognize this opportunity for what it is. Stop. Fcking. Around. Divorce Elin, remarry someone else or stay single. Or try something else to do other than golf.

Other white golfers have tended to keep their creeping under wraps or on page 14 of the sports page, couched in cryptic language. Or they’ve stuck with the same woman through creeping, children, moving around, and financial reverses. But not you, Tiger. There were already strong rumors before this happened that you were creeping. See, you’re a rock star. When people heard about the accident, it was like a thunderclap heard around the world. Nobody, except perhaps Obama, will get this kind of attention and concern. Even if you are losing on the course, you still have that rock star mantle. It’s a blessing, but now, it’s a curse. People won’t come to see you or buy your endorsed products if you keep on this way. Lorne Rubenstein of Canada’s The Globe and Mail says we’re all waiting for some answers.

Woods has the support of many sponsors, who pay him untold millions. They want to be associated with the 33-year-old winner of 14 major championships not only because he is a brilliant golfer – perhaps the best in history – but because of his image. They along with golf fans will want to know exactly what happened early yesterday morning in the darkness of the exclusive Isleworth community when Woods pulled away from his mansion.

The sponsors that will want to know – or one would think they would, and need to – include, among others, Nike, Upper Deck, Accenture, TAG Heuer, EA Sports, Golf Digest, Netjet, Gatorade, and Gillette. Meanwhile, Kim Montes, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol told The Associated Press that police plan to ask Woods “everything.” First reports said nothing about that having happened, the explanation being that Woods was being treated for his injuries.

One thing is certain: PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem and the sponsors of every tournament in which Woods plays, must have nearly collapsed with worry when the accident was reported. He moves the dial like no other golfer, ever.

Woods was one of only two golfers ranked in the top 50 in the world who played in that recent Australian Masters, and some 25,000 spectators followed him every round. The Hong Kong Open on the same week had 12 players ranked in the top 50. Telecasts of the tournament showed very few people at the tournament.

My advice: Man up. Admit that you are having marital problems, then go into counseling with your wife. Decide whether to keep her and the children, or let her go with enough money to live the rest of her life in peace, and share custody. It doesn’t work to have a family and to continue being a playa when you’re on tour. In between, be with your little boy and little girl. That’s your living legacy. Find or reject religion or find comfort in family or friends who’ll tell you the truth, not what you want to hear. Get back to the basic reason why you love golf and what it does for you, and then spread that love around to your wife, children and other family members. Open up your life, Tiger. And above all, step on, but on a different path. Let this episode fade away for your sake. Don’t turn this into a donnybrook that every major gossip media outlet will rush to talk about to your detriment, and have folks shaking their heads. It’s up to you.

If a magazine can’t sell advertising, it should probably just throw in the towel.

But after losing $13 million in 2008 to be followed by losing an estimated $8 million this year, Playboy went in a ‘different direction’ contracting with David Pecker’s AMI publishing to sell ads–and essentially outsource all business functions but editorial.

Most magazines have two key revenue streams: advertising and circulation.  Playboy has both and adds a third–licensing of the venerable Playboy name.   But apparently only the licensing part is working (and is not part of the AMI deal).  NY Post media reporter Keith Kelly says Playboy newsstand sales, which once topped 7 million copies per month, have deteriorated to a pathetic 150,000 today.  I’ve written before about Playboy’s incoherent content (and cookie-cutter plastic girls) which hardly makes it a compelling impulse purchase.

Contracting with Pecker’s AMI is no panacea for advertising either.  According to Keith Kelly, Pecker boasts that when Playboy’s total circulation of 1.1 million is combined with that of AMI titles such as Flex, Men’s Fitness and Muscle & Fitness, there will be a combined ad buy of 11 million men in the prized 18-to-35 demographic.  “That’s bigger than the men’s networks of Time Warner, Jann Wenner’s company or Hearst.”

I don’t believe a word of it for three reasons:

1. Flex, Men’s Fitness and Muscle & Fitness have ten million readers?!

2. A more apt display of the work AMI does selling ads can be found in Star and my old rag, The National Enquirer.  If you actually pick up a copy, they’re very low on the quality national ads like the Sonys that Playboy has traditionally had, and high on commemorative plates and catalog crap.

3. The dirty little secret of men’s magazines is that they’re read by old guys like me and Kevin Bacon; the ‘prized 18-to-35 demographic’ is more interested in Call of Duty than ‘call of p***y’ on glossy paper stock.

Soon enough, Pecker will want to take over editorial and do it cheaper with the reporters he has already.  Maybe they’ll sell him the rest of the magazine.

More likely it will go out of business.  The only thing keeping this money-losing relic of the 60’s alive is the fear that killing it will kill Hugh Hefner.

Could there be trouble in paradise for Fergie and Josh Duhamel?

In an interview with The National Enquirer, 34-year-old, stripper, Nicole Forrester claims she engaged in a night of passion with the Transformers hunk in an Atlanta hotel room while he was in the area filming Life As We Know It, a comedy co-starring Katherine Heigl.

The mother-of-two told the magazine, she first encountered Duhamel at the Tattletale Lounge - a nude bar where she dances under the guise of Delilah. He identified himself as JD and said he was in town making a porn film. “I told him, ‘You are gorgeous’ and he said, ‘’You’re hot, too.”

She goes on to say they spent the night drinking Grey Goose Vodka together when he asked her to perform a naked strip-tease for him. Before leaving, the pair exchanged numbers and on October 9, the film-star called her up and invited her to his hotel room where the two had “lots of sex”.

Despite The Enquirer reporting that Forrester passed a rigorous polygraph test, Duhamel and his representatives are calling the allegations ‘bogus’. His spokesman said: “This is not the first nor will it be the last time that a stripper was paid a large amount of money to sell a false story about a celebrity, this story is absolutely ridiculous.”

Black Eyed Peas singer, Fergie, who has been married to the actor in January, is standing by her man and dismisses the claims as ‘nonsense’.

Wow. A lie-detector does kind of corroborate the strippers story, I guess, but if I’m honest, all I noticed was the product placement through-out the story. Grey Goose Vodka anyone…Anyone? No? Just me then. 

More to the point, the name of the strip-joint is very appropriate for such a situation.

Is Kevin Federline preparing for fatherhood again?

According to The National Enquirer, K-Fat K-Fed is expecting a child with current squeeze, Victoria Prince.

The 31-year-old, rapper already has two sons with ex-wife, Britney Spears – Sean Preston, four, and Jayden James, three.

He also fathered a daughter, seven-year-old, Kori, and a son, five-year-old, Kaleb with actress and former girlfriend, Shar Jackson.

A source told the US magazine: “The test was positive. She told Kevin that she was pregnant, but he didn’t seem happy to hear the news.”

Federline’s spokesperson has debunked the rumours, simply stating the allegations “are not true“.

This guy must super-fertile. It seems like every relationship he enters, results in pregnancy.

Being rich allows you access that others do not have.  Going back to my man 50, he gives us words to aspire to.  I want to be rich enough to do whatever I want, instead of doing what I can.  Being rich is also how we get the more salious news details.  Thinking about Michael Jackson and his death brings me back to David Carradine and his death.

The media was all over the details of the death.  The Thai newspapers were quick to attempt to publish photos of what they claimed to be the room and the body.

Now, we know that the picture is a fake.

But, our quest to satiate our morbid desire to find out what happened can push for people to create something like this for a hefty payday.  If you were a person with this photo, think about the amount that the National Enquirer would pay for a picture like that?  It seems ironic that I am posting about the invasion of someone’s privacy while at the same time claiming that its good to get money.  I know, I know, but I am a wage slave just like you.  I am at work right now, on my break writing this.  I would rather be at home chilling, enjoying the summer, but the money is too tempting.

But, money talks.  In the case of David Carradine, it led to his actual autopsy photos being leaked to the internet.  I was going to post them, and then thought that I didn’t want to see them, and I bet you didn’t either.  With Michael Jackson, the media frenzy hit a peak.  This is what money buys…

PARAMEDICS dashed to dying Michael Jackson’s side after a panic-stricken phone call from the superstar’s Los Angeles home.

The dramatic call was made by a member of staff last night at just after 8pm UK time.

Fire Department medics responded to the alert and arrived to find the 50-year-old singer collapsed and not breathing. He had suffered a cardiac arrest.

The emergency staff rushed him to hospital in their vehicle, where a computer screen revealed chilling details of his condition.

A record of the call-out read: “50 year old male Not breathing at all.” It gave the time of the call-out as 12.21pm local time.

Medics administered heart massage and oxygen along the route. But they could not revive the star.

Now, they think that the killer was Demeral, a painkiller.  That is one of the reasons I don’t like doctors, or taking pain pills.  My first reason was that pain pills trick you into thinking that the injury is okay, when it really isn’t.  Also, I was afraid of being addicted to them.  As I get older, I have become softer, and see some benefit in drugs, but I still avoid them.  When I had ACL and meniscus surgery, when I got home from the hospital, I had nothing stronger than some Tylenol-3 with codeine.  I know that I could have gotten something stronger, but I went with the small stuff.

Last night it was suspected his collapse could have been caused by an overdose of painkillers.

An Emergency Room source at UCLA hospital said Jackson aides told medics he had collapsed after an injection of potent Demerol — similar to morphine.

A Jacko source said: “Shortly after taking the Demerol he started to experience slow shallow breathing.

“His breathing gradually got slower and slower until it stopped.

“His staff started mouth-to-mouth and an ambulance was called which got there in eight minutes “But found he was in full respiratory arrest, no breathing and no pulse. They started full CPR and rushed him to hospital.

“When he arrived they started resuscitation, giving him heart shocks and inserted a breathing tube and other supportive measures to try and save his life.

“He never regained consciousness.The family was told that he had passed.”

What does passed really mean?  I know that saying dead might be a little crass and insensitive, but isn’t it the truth.  Where did they pass to?  T.O.?  We all know that he has bad hands, so I hope not to him…  Did you pass on?  So, where is the next show?  Seattle? London?  NYC?  It just must be the shock of the King of Pop leaving…

Now the Sun is reporting that they are looking for Jacko’s doctor and that they took out huge bags of vials and bottles.

The Jackson family’s lawyer Brian Oxman today confirmed “bags of material” were seized by cops from the singer’s LA mansion.

He said: “They (police) were looking for drug vials and syringes. I don’t know if they found syringes, but there would have been a lot of drug vials.”

Earlier, it was claimed Jacko’s upcoming tour and “life threatening” addiction to pain relief drugs had pushed the fragile star to breaking point.

The King of Pop was under immense pressure to perform a series of epic concerts in London as part of his “This Is It” tour.

It is feared Jacko may have developed an increasing dependence on painkillers to cope with his gruelling pre-show rehearsals.

A post-mortem examination is now being carried out by Dr Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran who was a witness in the OJ Simpson case to find the cause of death.

Who really cares who is doing the autopsy?  Now, the Doctor’s are becoming famous for doing their jobs.  Why should we care if you testified in the OJ trial?  That’s right, because we are addicted to what is happening with our celebrities.  We see them as friends and confidants.  When the Sun (owned by Rupert Murdoch, who has crazy loot) National Enquirer, People or Us Weekly report on something, (or start to speculate) we want to know.  Stars are just regular people who have a bunch of money.  If they weren’t rich, they would be the crazy lady who has 30 cats in her apartment.  But, if she is rich, she is just a little eccentric. Mr Oxman – who was at the hospital when medics failed to resuscitate the star – later revealed the legend’s addiction to medications had become deeply worrying.

Mr Oxman told reporters: “I have been very critical of the use of pain medications.

“I have told people in no uncertain terms that if Michael one day woke up and he was dead I would not be silent, I would not permit this to go unchallenged.”

He later added: “I did warn him about the drugs, but I am sorry I didn’t warn him enough.

“I am going to wait until I get the toxicology report, and if his death has something to do with drugs, I am prepared to name names of doctors who prescribed them.”

Jacko had been rehearsing solidly in the run-up to the series of eagerly-awaited gigs due to start at London’s O2 next month.

More than 750,000 tickets had been sold for the 50 concerts, which were scheduled to continue into next year.

Also, is it too soon to ask about the refund policy? I hope that you didn’t buy your tickets from a scalper…

Then the fact that there are these photos make me sad.  Only because she is famous, do people want to see these pictures. (WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURE AHEAD)

Most people have never seen nor met Princess Diana, but they claim that they have some connection to her.  The quest for the touch of fame is spooky.  Does anyone want to see the pictures of my Mom, who also died in a car crash on the freeway?  Why not?  because she wasn’t famous. ( and I dont have pictures you sick bastard)  But, to know her, you would be moved by a lot of things that she was capable of, from her intelligence or her kindness.

But your quest to know has real consequences and makes me womder about your moral compass.  The grim reaper will come for all of us soon enough and hopefully, when he comes for me, the cameras won’t be rolling…

It has been reported that a couple of reporters from the tabloid magazine, The National Enquirer took it upon themselves to sign out Brooke Shields’ mother from an assisted living facility. In addition to doing that, they interviewed her, attempting to get a story. Her mother, Teri Shields suffers from dementia, a form of Alzhiemer’s.

It’s a terrible act to take advantage of someone’s ill relative for the sake of a news story. How dare them do that to Brooke’s mother?

The National Enquirer deserves everything that is coming to them!

The assisted living facility is partly to blame because they didn’t verify the identities of the reporters. We will watch this unfold in court.

In the meantime, I want to give my support to Brooke Shields. I can only imagine how it feels to care for a sick parent but to have to deal with this is especially heartbreaking.

Magazine tabloids are a large part of checkout stands in grocery stores, in lobbies of doctor offices and have moved to television and the Internet.  The history of the tabloid’s began with politician and businessmen human interest stories that were sensationalized. The public took to these types of stories because they were entertaining. The writing involved changed and is very different compared to hard news writing. This history dates back to beginning in New York and the journalism was identified as yellow journalism which are fabricated stories.

The oldest tabloid is the Daily Mirror which was news to me. This tabloid was first known as a publication, which focused on fabricating stories. The Daily Mirror was financed and started by William Randolph Hearst. Stories that captured the public were stories about gory murders and celebrity scandals. The National Enquirer, another tabloid publication changed its format from self help to gory pictures which entertained a greater audience. Fast forwarding to present day the presentation of a tabloid is much nicer and are not considered as embarrassing to read. The high interest in tabloids have lead to television shows. Television shows such as “A Current Affair” created by Murdoch worked and appealed to the public. 

Currently there is what is known as checkbook journalism,, which is popular and trendy. Checkbook journalism involves paying for sources to get interviews and some sources will sell stories to journalists for money.“Speidy,” couple Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag is an example of this. They make a living off of tipping themselves to the paparazzi and journalists. 

With this freedom anyone can become a celebrity over night. YouTube, American Idol and The Hills all versions of reality television have provided the opportunity for people to act, perform and become popular among the public leading to a hit story in a tabloid.

Tabloids are here to stay and I too am guilty of reading, watching and wanting to know what the next scandal and leading story is. Presentation is part of the capture and the entertainment in why it becomes so addicting to people all over the world. The impact of tabloids is fascinating and I am curious how or what it will evolve into next.

Significant historical court cases are related to tabloid news and have provided an influence. The O.J. Simpson case was the first to open its doors to cameras and give the public a view from there home. 

This coverage also affected tabloid sells negatively because hard news had access as well and reported on details. Hard news now also covers celebrities, which has provided another outlet for consumers, but has some competition value with publications and shows focused only on tabloid stories. The O.J. Simpson details and coverage also gave tabloids the chance to create reenactments.

The abundance of information delivered leaves the consumer questioning what to believe and who to trust. For this reason tabloids now include a disclaimer stating that not all content may be factual. A difference between investigative news and tabloid news is investigative news takes a stand, uses a moralizing tone, examines crime and sex and informs in a way to change the world.

According to a reputable source at the Safeway Express line (Yeah – The National Enquirer), “Britney doesn’t want to do it, and she’s telling her father Jamie that. All the dates are booked-and $100 million would be lost if she bails.  Both her father and ex-husband King Cheetos are telling her she has to go on for the sake of her kids and their financial future. Jamie needs this tour for Britney to secure her wealth.”

Sources at the ENQUIRER are claiming that John McCain’s wife Cindy McCain has been caught cheating and this time there is photo proof…well extremely grainy fake looking proof that could look like any blonde kissing another man. This is not the first time Cindy McCain has been accused of this by people searching to make money off her name.

There are supposedly several witnesses to Cindy McCain cheating on John by smooching with this supposed “washed up ’80s rock musician” according to the ENQUIRER. There are also reports that Cindy has been attending concerts and sporting events with this man. They supposedly act very loving with lots of kissing, groping, and hand holding.

John McCain and Cindy McCain have been married since 1980, John right now is 72 while Cindy is 54. About 18 years seperate them and many are saying that is playing a role in why she is cheating on him. The McCain family has a well known close family and this is just bizarre. Why would such a famous woman be out in public with a random mystery man?

The picture looks photoshopped with grain to make it very unclear who is in it.

Do you believe anything that appears in the Enquirer? We have had a tendency to look at its stories with a jaundiced eye. That is, until its John Edwards expose proved correct. That one was a real shocker, and practically no one believed it up until the day John confessed.

Still, we are looking at the Enquirer with a jaundiced eye, although less so than pre-Edwards. That’s why we wonder if the Enquirer’s story about Sarah Palin’s supposed affair with a friend and business partner of Todd Palin’s is accurate. The Palin camp has discounted the matter, but a read of the details in the story crafts a plausible scenario.

The Enquirer begins on its front page with a blazing headline: Sarah Palin’s Other Man Revealed! Then below that: Family member tells all: Affair Detailed. And to end the narrative on the front page “She confessed, ‘I love him.’” To top it off, the Enquirer placed a small picture of the other man, labeled Her Love Brad Hanson right below a larger photo of Sarah.

How could anyone passing through a checkout stand resist this one? We couldn’t but we are interested in politics. We think in terms of “How might this affect the election?” Others purchase a copy for the salacious details they hope to find inside. Regardless of motivation, we’d wager a lot of copies of the October 6, 2008 issue were sold to the salacious crowd. We’d also wager that some of the purchasers were Republican lawyers.

To those looking for spicy details, however, they are scant to none. Most of the sources were unnamed, and the one man who agreed to the use of his name had a questionable history. Still, some of the informants seemed to have their own plausible versions. For example, one said that the affair began because Todd was often away on business and Sarah became lonely.

And “a friend” said Sarah confessed to her that she (Sarah) loved the guy. Then, there was the vague observation by someone about Sarah confessing to Todd that it was an “affair of the heart” rather than a full-blown affair as we understand the term.

In any event, true or false, the story has just enough in it to provide Sarah haters with the nail they need to finish nailing her hide to the barn door but not enough to convince Sarah or Todd to ‘fess up. Lacking any more specific facts from named sources, the ‘fess up factor is about the only way anyone will know the truth. In the meantime, do we have more important matters at hand? Seems not, doesn’t it? Salacious trumps importance every time.

According to the rumor mill, The Hills’ Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge have fallen out because Lauren hooked up with Audrina’s boyfriend, Justin Bobby, behind her back. If it’s true, this is beyond ironic considering the current storyline on the show is LC’s disappointment that pal Stephanie Pratt dated her former fling, Doug, behind her back. Not to mention the whole Jen Bunney/Brody Jenner fiasco of two seasons ago. But like I said, it’s still just a rumor. Although, we all know sometimes, rumors turn out to be true.
