Yeah I know most people would probably say that this world isn’t vapor. I mean, if it was why would God set us here? But I asked a friend of mine and he told me that God made this world and “it was good”. However, Satan came and perverted everything…THEREFORE sin came into the world, THEREFORE we face temptations, THEREFORE we can fall into temptation, THEREFORE we suffer from pornography. video game addictions, pornography addictions, drug addictions, alcohol addictions. That is why our society is a society that is based on immorality and lust. But we shouldn’t always look at the depressing side of things. Jesus still loves us no matter what we say or do. No matter what choices we make or what actions and words we choose to say, he will not judge us for he will never “forsake or leave you”.

Only one thing guys, only one thing…

We looked at the upcoming G-20 meeting in yesterday’s post (See: The Scanner–International Edition, March 24, 2009: Say Goodbye to the Dollar? China, Russia Proposing a New World Currency for “Non-Credit” Based Economies, Echo G-20 Agenda of Expanding IMF; China Will “Consider” Buying IMF Bonds; 10th China Develpment Forum Underway), and lo and behold, a few times during the day, I began picking up some items on the TV discussing the meeting, which will be held in London April 1-2.

I caught a few moments of Shepherd Smith on FOX during the afternoon, interviewing a woman who ticked off all the reasons why the dollar wouldn’t be replaced as the world’s reserve currency at the meeting. The discussion was in the context of how it would affect the U.S. economy and how complicated it was, and that’s why it wouldn’t happen. China’s worries about its investments in U.S. Treasury bonds was mentioned and their desire for the dollar to be dropped as the reserve, but the EU was supporting the U.S. There was absolutely no mention of Russia and its release suggesting what China suggested.

Apparently, Glenn Beck wasn’t so circumspect during his morning radio show or his FOX TV show later in the afternoon.  I didn’t hear either but my mother said he sounded EXACTLY like what we had written in our post yesterday.  Since I had printed it out for her to read, she knew what was in it.

Well, what he opined wasn’t EXACTLY what we wrote about, but he touched a whole bunch of bases in giving a general “history” of how we have gotten to where we are today.  It’s like “From Biggest Lender to Biggest Borrower 101.”  Apparently Glenn Beck and IA are on the same page, at least on this one topic.  That’s a bit weird for us, since I think Beck is pretty insufferable, to say the least, but I think the “The One Thing” segment he did yesterday evening was pretty darned clear. This is a very short segment, so do watch it all! (Note: I had trouble inserting the video from the FOX site, so I found it on YouTube. The “title” comes from FOX, however.)

Well,  just in time for the 2009 election is…Al Gore, who issued a press release yesterday about a follow-up book to An Inconvenient Truth.  I loved the film and got a copy of the book as “payment” for my efforts in the not-so-long-distant past at a certain Chicago-based website that went crazy last May.

I was really ticked when the guy who delivered those stirring speeches about the press and the Constitution during the Bush years turned around and chose to endorse Obama instead of remaining a statesman for the world by staying neutral–the same Obama who took all that money from Exelon and rewrote a nuclear safety bill to please his donors and the Republicans.

So now, Gore will inject himself into the 2009 elections as all the PR push for his book in the period leading up to its Election Day release.  He’s been pretty quiet since the Inauguration and hasn’t talked about energy policy at all, although he’s supposed to be some sort of adviser to the Obama Administraiton.  Elections for governor will be held in Virginia (where Terry MacAuliffe is currently running for the Democratic nomination) and New Jersey (where Democrat Jon Corzine may be facing re-election troubles).  Frankly, I view this “book business” as manipulative and cheesy. And so damned obvious…

40 Day Love Dare – Day Fourteen

I fixed some biscuits this morning very early.  I fried a little sausage too and with the stars of Orion sparkling like diamonds in the west, I took the hot biscuits and some homemade peach jam to the nursing home to have breakfast with my mom.  They eat early at Grace.  I was hoping the biscuits would communicate my love to her.  The love warmth of the biscuits cooled when she started talking about going home.  I didn’t volunteer to take her there, nor did I offer to take care of her if she went.  My standard response to her continuing insistence about going home is, “If you want to go home, you are free to go any time you want.  But you will need to find someone to live with you and take care of you because I can not do that.”   Then I changed the subject.  But by the end of the breakfast, my biscuits were heavy on my stomach.

More Than Fine Moment

Sometimes the finest moments come when I am at my worst.  They do not occur during romantic sunsets or relaxing walks in the autumn woods.  Such is the case tonight.  I am feeling very restless, and unhappy. I’m very disappointed.  I can’t act like I’m not when I’m with Him because He can see right through me.  I feel like a caged bird and I am frustrated and quite frankly angry with Him for the circumstances into which He has led me recently.  I have been doing a lot of questioning and I wish that He would tell me what He is up to.

In spite of my frustration and discontentment, I know that He loves me.  That is one thing that I am very sure about.  He hears when I talk to Him.  And I am also sure that my tantrums will not lesson His love for me one tiny bit.

I am forever weak and faithless, but His faithfulness is eternally more than fine.

I read something a few days ago in Marcus Buckingham’s book The One Thing that really struck me.  He said in his research on marriages, the one factor that made for a happy marriage is the perceptions a person holds of his or her spouse.  In other words, if you want a happy marriage, work on your perception of your spouse, not your spouses weaknesses.

The relationships that found faults in one another, tried to help the other person “improve,” and tried to have a more truthful perception of one another, reported being less happy than the couples that always thought the best of each other.

The reason that strikes me as odd is because it seems to go against reason and modern marriage advice.  Compatibility tests warn couples to make sure that they have similar interests in the 7 or 9 or 13 key areas before they marry.  Counselors admonish couples to have a hobby and spend time together in that hobby.  And all of these are fine, but the ONE THING that loving couples can do is to be Pollyanna.

So, as I thought about this, I thought of some ways to work on my perceptions and how to build them, which seems so crazy.  Am I deluding myself?  Tricking my own brain?  Or, practicing blind love?

• tell my wife at least once a day that she is beautiful (not that she isn’t, but she is constantly worried about her weight and appearance and she compares herself to other women — and I don’t want to start doing that, so I want to protect my perception of her beauty)
• when we argue, remind myself that she is strong and independent (which I like)
• think of her as a saver of money and a generous giver
• compliment her in public for being a patient, caring wife and mother

The amazing thing about this practice of perceptions is that research reports that perceptions actual produce reality.  As you think about your spouse in positive ways, he or she will become more like your perceptions.  And the inverse is true — if your preceptions are negative, you will produce in your spouse the very qualities you don’t like.

This is a powerful truth.  We have the power to encourage and build up our spouses.  We have the choice to feed and nourish our marriage or to destroy it — with our thoughts and perceptions of one another.
