a

Dans Miles From Nowhere, Perrett, de sa voix spectrale et nasillarde, balance froidement « if you ever start thinking what you’re doing to me / maybe you will set me free » (« si tu commençais à penser à ce que tu me fais / peut-être me libérerais-tu »).

Pour preuve, lors de l’encore, Peter Perrett s’adresse à l’audience « what last song do you want us to play ? ». Un péquenaud (moi), crie Miles From Nowhere, qu’ils n’avaient pas encore joué. Blanc.

from Alan Korwin’s blog…here Chicago’s very own…WGN…

…The media nationwide has its panties in a knot because a person showed up at an Obama protest bearing arms and wearing a white shirt and tie. Not just any firearm, but what they like to vilify as an “assault” rifle — an AR-15 typical household single-shot long gun. But to the media, it’s a menacing black gun. And it was worn by a black man, a fact they tried to hide. I took repeated calls for “news” interviews about this incredible occurrence…

Your hometown station WGN offered up these gems…

Chicago’s WGN couldn’t believe we have the right to keep and bear arms out here. I had to tell them most places have RKBA, a surprise to them in their little cloister. “Do people shoot each other on the streets a lot?” They actually asked that. These folks aren’t in a bubble, they’re in a vacuum, they get nothing. “With your new guns-in-bars law, which has created quite a commotion here in Chicago, are there shootouts in bars?” I’m not making this up.

Get it? Get it? “Do people shoot each other on the streets a lot?” Try this link. Gee I dunno WGN…do peopole in Chicago shoot each other on the streets a lot? Of course how could that be…nasty handguns aren’t allowed in Chi-Town. Why don’t you folks at WGN ask Mayor Dick?

In honour of Willy DeVille who passed away recently, I rummaged through my music library listening to various punk and post-punk bands from his era. Many people say they don’t like punk but have a listen to this mix to hear some real gems from The Only Ones, Diodes, Monks, The Specials and one of my favourite bands, Suicide.

Crossing the Rubicon isn’t quite an appropriate name for the Sounds’ third album. Halfway Across the Rubicon would have been closer–”crossing” denotes a radical departure, which the album is not. It is, however, an admirable attempt on the part of the Sounds to stretch their boundaries beyond the New Wave of their first two albums.

Attempts, even if admirable, do not always succeed, and Crossing the Rubicon can either be judged a qualified success or an ambitious failure, depending on whether you’re a glass-half-full or half-empty kind of guy.

As with their first two albums, Crossing opens with a killer single, “No One Sleeps When I’m Awake,” ready-made for the party-pleasing best-of that’s in the Sounds’ future if current trends continue.

As we advance, the cracks begin to show. The quality of Sounds lyrics has always been up and down, but it’s a real problem on Crossing the Rubicon. Jumping from their usual slightly-cynical posture to lovey-dovey or idealistic is incongruous and bespeaks a band having a little trouble nailing down its identity.

This results in one major missed opportunity. “Home Is Where Your Heart Is” has a glorious pop melody, and, if balanced with some dialed-back lyrics, could have been stunning. Instead, the lyrics serve up so much corn the listener could be excused for thinking the Sounds were from Iowa rather than Sweden.

Another error in judgment is the hip-hop/New Wave combo “Beatbox,” in which lead singer Maja Ivarsson decides that she can rap and makes Debbie Harry sound like Eminem in the process. The pisser here is that everything in the song that isn’t “rap” is terrific, and it could have been great if the Sounds had recognized their limitations and brought in a skilled MC as a collaborator. Perhaps a remix is in order.

Not every experiment is a failure, though. “The Only Ones” is something new for the Sounds, an epic number that seems to be set against a backdrop of political violence. Suddenly, the maudlin lyrics transform from a negative to a huge positive as they impart a heartbreaking wistfulness. Despite its scope or because of it, it’s the most human moment on the record.

Crossing the Rubicon is the work of a band in transition. While a letdown after the excellent Dying to Say This to You, it does provide plenty of reasons to believe that the Sounds have another great album in them once they’ve finished crossing.

story here

(CNN) — A six-hour lockdown prompted by a fatal shooting near a Virginia campus was lifted as police continued a search for the gunman. Students at Radford University southwest of Roanoke were told to lock their doors and stay inside early Friday, after a man was fatally shot in the chest in a residential area a couple of blocks away.

I guess you are relying on your ability to hide during the lockdown huh? If you weren’t a champion hide n seek player at age 9 I guess you are in big trouble.

Just to make sure we have the Radford University Student Code of Conduct….

45. Weapons

The unauthorized use, possession or storage of firearms, ammunition, weapons or realistic replicas of weapons on Radford University Property. Firearms are defined as any weapon that fires projectiles. Weapons include any object or substance designed or used to inflict a wound, cause injury or incapacitate. Paintball guns may not be used or stored on Radford University property without prior approval from the Office of the Dean of Students.

Yep, there it is. Trust me, you aren’t authorized…, the only ones are the only ones authorized, You aren’t allowed to have a replica of a chance either…I know I’d feel a whole lot better if I were forcibly disarmed while a gunman roams the area…this is a knee slapper here….

A spokesman for Radford University police told CNN that the shooter had not been captured and that investigators believed that neither the victim nor the gunman were students. He would not explain why police believed the campus was safe.

Yes he’s probably still out there…but trust us you’re safe… This is what they tell you in the macro sense of society as well. There are plenty of maniacs out there, but trust us…you’re safe…even though we have no obligation to ensure your particular personal safety. And in several places they tell you this and also tell you…”and oh by the way you cannot have a handgun either…” Say at like Radford University.

UPDATE: You know I wrote the “hide ‘n seek” champion stuff this morning, then all hell breaks loose in Binghamton, N.Y. Low and behold the hide and seek thing was prophetic…

link here from Yahoo News

Police heard no gunfire after they arrived but waited for about an hour before entering the building to make sure it was safe for officers. They then spent two hours searching the building.

No, I’m not making it up….you really did have to be a hide ‘n seek champion to survive…the police get there and then wait an hour before going in to the building? What the hell? Yet we should stay disarmed and call 911?? No I don’t want officers gunned down…but isn’t that their job to go in and stop the killing with some more killing? I don’t ever want to hear the crap from the anti’s and other pants wetters about leaving things to the police…

Back to the commuter world this week: the train, the robot shouting at you to look out for terrorists, the dead eyed expressions.

Things I had forgotten – first, that people are awake enough to have loud, personal mobile phone conversations at 7:30am. Second, that 90% of people on the train hide behind crap right-wing freepaper The Metro, and at least 4% of the rag-less remainder covet it with expressions of sheer naked desire. I know reading The Metro is the path of least resistance, but then so is shitting yourself. Resist, people – resist!

For the past hour I have been dimly aware of something going on in the back of my head – something causing me to bounce my head around like a crazy person. Or rather, like an ageing mosher at a gig – the type stood at the side of the stage with a pint in hand and knees aching, wishing he was young enough to still be bashing around in the bruising melee of the writhing pit.

And then I realised. My brain has had the genius intro to Another Girl, Another Planet on a loop.

You get under my skin / I don’t find it irritating…

story here

As a storm of outrage gathered over his department, Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle called a news conference Thursday to apologize for the behavior of an officer who detained a distressed family outside a hospital emergency room.

Make sure to follow the link and watch the video, mere text doesn’t do it justice. And yes… I know police have a tough job, I know they are underpaid, I know they are afraid everytime they make a traffic stop, I know they may have just had an encounter with an ass on the previous stop..I know I know I know…yes yes yes..

However, this is beyond the pale. Kudos to the Chief for an unqualified apology. This is one where I would hope the rank and file break the blue line and call a spade a spade. Hopefully this jackboot can go patrol the food court somewhere with a flashlight, it’s about all he should be doing. And no, I don’t care if he has a family, I don’t care if he is humiliated and I don’t care if his career is ruined. It should be.

The unfortunate thing is that this happens far more than in this incident. The very circumstances that should have cue’d in this moron cop that he was f’ing up were the circumstances that would have kept the incident alive had the dash tape been accidentally recycled… You would figure when the hospital staff and a brother cop show up and say “hey the woman really is dying right now” that he would get a clue. But no…undeterrred, he must fully show his power, flex his muscle…these people must know that they are mere citizens…he is something above.

Race? I don’t know, maybe, it’s bad enough no matter what color they were.

Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas posts a nice list of things they support and those they oppose…here

Among the things CLEAT opposes…

HB 1027- which would effectively prevent the police from making traffic stops if they aren’t in a marked vehicle or uniform. Goodness knows, what citizen would object to being detained by someone not in a marked vehicle or uniform? It’s so safe these days.

HB 1400- which would provide for the creation of a “Public Integrity Unit” in the Attorney General’s office…which among other things would have power to prosecute offenses against “public administration” read law enforcement. The gist of this is that police like to be investigated locally, by people they have influence over, not by distant bodies in Austin.

HJR 66- Permitting the attorney general to prosecute offenses against public administration, including ethics offenses, and offenses involving insurance fraud. Psst…the po-po. See above. We are the only ones who investigate things around here buddy.

SB 388- Relating to the creation of the law enforcement integrity unit in the Department of Public Safety. That would be State Troopers… The opposition line from their website is too good not to quote verbatim:

OPPOSED: Creates a law enforcement integrity unit in DPS to investigate law enforcement corruption.

And you think I was exaggerating above…silly you. What law enforcement corruption? We don’t need no stinkin’ integrity.

But they’re not against everything…here’s some of what they support:

HB 120- Relating to the issuance of a driver’s license to a peace officer that includes an alternative to the officer’s residence address.. Only the Only Ones can have secret addresses on their license…no soup for you.

HB 730- Raising traffic fines from a cap of $250 to $500, consider it an economic stimulus…

HB 733- which defines police vehicle as any vehicle primarily used by an leo, creates more fun for Joe Public on a traffic stop

HB 988- which exempts the po-po from Big Brother’s red light camera tickets when they are driving the po-po mobile. As CLEAT themselves put it: “CLEAT BILL: Exempts officers from red light camera citations when driving an authorized emergency vehicle.” A get out of ticket free card. It doesn’t say anything about actually responding to an emergency or having lights on…etc.. You know when the trooper goes past you at 100 mph on the interstate with no lights, siren etc… He’s the only one who can do that, trust him, whatever he is doing is important.

For the second time in just over a week, a SWAT rifle has been reported missing by a police officer in the Dallas area. A Grand Prairie officer, whose name was not released, said his Colt M-16 automatic rifle was missing from the trunk of his squad car on Sunday. The weapon was not loaded.

Oh well that’s better, at least the perp will have to buy some ammo…is this the assault weapons problem?

Interesting the brand of rifle…that the Richardson, TX P.D. manages to lose…

Last Tuesday, a Richardson police officer reported that someone broke into his parked truck and stole his SWAT rifle. The weapon, an H-S Precision .308-caliber bolt-action rifle, was taken along with ammunition, a scope and other accessories.

H-S Precision…where have I heard that before? Oh yeah…here

I guess Richardson P.D. was drawn in by the fact that a murderer endorses these rifles?

Nice, I guess it’s at least consistent, you get a shitty attitude from them no matter whether you are disabled with your service dog or a lawful citizen with a handgun.

but I may soon learn it is about property rights or some such…

here

A West Allis municipal judge today ruled in favor of a local man arrested for disorderly conduct after a neighbor complained that he was carrying a gun while planting a tree.

I might add he was arrested in his own yard, planting the tree…doing nothing but wearing a sidearm in a holster… Wisconsin doesn’t prohibit the open carry of a firearm. Thus the bullshit “disorderly conduct” charge, from the stasi in West Allis.

John Pierce from Open Carry sums it up pretty well:

Said Pierce: “Really, the larger issue is not even a gun rights issue. It’s the issue of having a disorderly conduct statute that is a catchall statute for otherwise legal behavior.”

here

The WOU student who was falsely arrested and charged with possession of a firearm in a public building, had all his criminal charges dropped by the Polk County DA tonight.

Sounds like a win doesn’t it? At least a tyrant that bumbled into the right thing? Well not really. Click the link…it is much worse, including the actions of kiddie-punk student judicial body…

Here is David Codrea’s take from Gun Rights Examiner

Bottom line is that he broke no law, period. The D.A. acts like he is doing him a favor by not prosecuting…The totalitarians in the ivory tower weren’t through with him though. You know, the academic bastions of free thought and politically correct speech?

The college still got to “try” Jeff Maxwell. And they did tonight. The tribunal that tried Marine veteran Jeffery Maxwell laughed after suspending him from Western Oregon University and sentencing him to:

a “psychological evaluation stating he is not a threat to himself of others” and
a mandatory “ten page paper” ” with references, “citing, but not limited to:
1) the importance of following the law, even through civil disobedience.
2) the importance of accepting responsibility for one’s actions
3) and recognizing the impact possession of weapons on college campuses has on others.”

A psychological evaluation? @#$& what lunatics. Snot nosed leftist children doing the bidding of the administration. What do you figure they get to have dinner at the Commissar’s house. Perhaps they issue arm bands with “SM” on them like Bobby Brady had in the episode when he was a hall monitor pissing everyone in the junior high off.

I think they are also going to drop the guy in the North Sea to test the insulating qualities of flight suits. No word yet on where the re-education camp is located. It was established by Dear Leader and they like to keep them quiet.

The “prosecutor” was Patrick Moser moserp@wou.edu “Acting Coordinator of Campus Judicial Affairs”.

Wonder where he received his training? What a twit. Can’t you picture him…a little tyrant goose stepping around the campus.

Here is some comedy from the W.O.U. web site on public safety…

In order to accomplish this mission, the Campus Public Safety Department maintains the highest standards of work performance and interaction between the officers and the campus community.

Certainly high standards on display here, yep. The Stasi had really high standards of performance too…

UPDATE: news article here –it just never ends…here is the moronic comment of a prosecut

UPDATE: news article here –it just never ends…here is the moronic comment of a prosecutor who just lost. Prosecutors by and large are poor losers. An analogy you might appreciate is that of the marksman. Prosecutors largely shoot fish in a barrel, yet tell you what incredible marksmen they are. It is impossible to be a marksman when you only shoot fish in a barrel. So one Andrew Fox, the prosecutor, after losing (not merely “losing” but consider the implications of “losing”) issues this brilliant statement:

Andrew Fox, who prosecuted the case for the city attorney’s office, said the city disagrees with Mathews’ decision, calling it “an erroneous application of the law.” Fox said the city can’t appeal the decision, but added the city will continue to aid private businesses “in enforcing policies they determine to be necessary and appropriate to the safe and efficient operation of their premises.”

Get the implication of this. The police power of government according to Mr. Fox, will be used to enforce the private policies that they (the business) believes are important… So I hope those of you who own a pizza joint in Norfolk, VA, will start whatever quirky policies you like, so long as you believe that they are “necessary and appropriate” and simply call on the Norfolk P.D. to enforce it for you.

If you have a Quiznos, and the guy takes two containers of the vinaigrette dressing instead of one??? hammer his ass and have him arrested. Andrew Fox will help you. The implications of what dumbass Andrew Fox says are staggering. Perhaps he is a the 25 year old baby lawyer, sent out as the sacrificial lamb, while his boss Bernard Pishko, who is behind this hides under his desk, so maybe he should get some slack…no I think not. Think about that quote…think about that.

So yes they have no intention of stopping what they are doing…

A big win in court today for Danladi Moore. The Norfolk P.D./city sham has failed. The Judge has thrown the case and the charges will be dismissed. They paid him $10,000 for the first tyrannical arrest, let’s see what they pay for this one. You would think the citizens of Norfolk, Virginia would get tired of seeing this kind of thug behavior from their cops. Moreover, you would think they would get tired of paying out taxpayer dollars for absolutely tyrant behavior by the police…repeatedly.

Some historical articles here, here and here

A link to the VCDL’s email alert here

It pays to be a winner. However, I think everyone knows you don’t show a city and it’s storm troopers the err of their way like this without there being pay back. I fear Danladi will again find himself harassed, arrested, or worse. Imagine, as he leaves a council meeting, the subject of which was open carry, supported by other VCDL members and open carriers, peaceably speaking to their elected representatives…only to be arrested after the meeting.

How many ways can Norfolk and its gestapo say F-You to its citizenry? One of the lasting and best (hopefully there are no more to come) images for me of this whole mess is this, from the October Norfolk council meeting.

A cause for panic at the Norfolk City Council

A real pant-shitter I guess for the council tyrants. Imagine…a citizen not a subject. Here is a video of the menacing black man with a gun scaring the beejeebers out of the sheeple city council, prompting them to order his arrest and harassment an hour or two later. Fast forward to about 25 seconds into the clip and the scary Danladi starts berating the council for an outrageously long 1 minute 25 seconds. Better yet watch from the beginning and watch public servant Riddick, apparently bored with having to listen to the peasants.

So yes, what you just saw earned Danladi some payback, another criminal arrest, another violation of his rights. What a threat he is… He also well addresses the usual “macho-man” penis-envy crap that the sheeple bleat. They have no intellectual argument to make so they resort to that.

In the end, Norfolk police are tyrants, prosecutor Bernard Pishko is a tyrannical buffoon, some poetic justice. I hope in a couple of years Bernard and the boys pay up big time in the civil suit.

We’ll see how the media spins it…Congratulations Dan and thank you

Danladi Moore – whom the city paid $10,000 in July to avoid litigation after being stopped by police for suspected weapons violations – was charged with trespassing at the downtown entertainment complex Tuesday night. The 24-year-old Hampton resident said police told him to leave because he had a gun. Moore said he refused because the law allows him to display a weapon in public places. He said he was handcuffed, charged and led out of the building.

Our old friend Lee…

“Sheriff Lee Baca said it appeared the masked gunmen were targeting a specific person. “The manner in which it was done suggests it was a payback situation or a revenge situation,” Baca said. “They had a specific person they were trying to shoot.”

But apparently they managed not only to shoot the one person…they shot six others too.

No worries though, Lee put a stop to this back in ‘99. A blast from the past here.

(CNN) — After a national spate of violence that took the lives of students at a Colorado school, workers at day trading offices in Atlanta, and locally, left children wounded at a Jewish Community and a postal worker dead, Los Angeles has had enough. The county on Tuesday voted to put the “world’s largest gun show” out of business. The Great Western Show draws some 100,000 customers annually to its 2,000 weapons-related exhibits. It convenes four times a year at the Los Angeles County fairgrounds in Pomona.

But wait there’s more…

“I think today’s vote was a historic vote taken by the nation’s largest county, which has been host to the largest gun show in the world,” Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said. “Gun violence has ravaged this country. Illegal automatic and semi-automatic weapons have ravaged the schools, day-care centers, day camps, and other public institutions and religious institutions all over the United States,” said Yaroslavsky, who sponsored the measure.

The supervisors who voted for the law were supported by Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and Los Angeles City Police Chief Bernard Parks, who said residents of Southern California wanted to end gun violence in their region.

Not sure how this murder happened 10 years later…I mean we stopped all of this…
