1) Millions of citizens elected to delay their taxes by decreasing their withholding to zero

2) Millions of other citizens decided to be tax protestors and not pay taxes

3) The government was short billions more dollars than expected

4) Since the government was deliberately printing and spending trillions that it did not have, the fact that people were not paying their taxes should not have mattered.

5) But it did matter when some wag told China that the currency used to pay them interest as not even backed by labor. It was worth less that the corn shucks put on tamales

6) China declared the US in default and demanded to be paid in gold

7) President Karl Marx, Speaker of the House Chairman Mao, and Senate Majority Leader Che Guevara declared martial law and had thousands of tax protestors shot.

2010. Total Recall. Reboot the Nation. Term Limits

By poetryman69

1. Abolish the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

2. Abolish the Department of Education

3. Open the Communist Manifesto and do the opposite of every it says

4. Term limit all congressmen and senators

5. Kick all sitting senators and congressmen out of office. Those whores have sold their votes for the last time.

6. Since all politicians work for bribes from foreign nations, bribes from corporations, bribes from big labor, bribes from communists, bribes from Marxists and bribes from Socialists, impeach them all. Try them all as traitors and lock them all up.

There is a specter haunting Washington DC. It is a communist cabal which is conspiring to destroy the last free nation on earth. With the advent of Marxist Medicine and the Socialist Redistribution scheme known as Cap and Trade they have almost succeeded.

Motion comics are the comic book industry’s most visible foray into new media since, well, may

Motion comics are the comic book industry’s most visible foray into new media since, well, maybe ever. These items, playable in iTunes or on most internet browsers, are more viewed than read. True to the name, characters in motion comics move around in panels, and word balloon dialogue is performed by voice actors.

Of all the major comic book companies, Marvel has invested the most in motion comics. A few months ago, popular writer Brian Michael Bendis‘ new Spider-Woman series was launched simultaneously via motion comics and print issues. Spider-Woman is available via iTunes, and can be found on Hulu and YouTube for a limited time as well. Spider-Woman is a curious choice for such a large-scale push–the character has a backstory so convoluted that I can’t see non-comic readers warming to the title, and Bendis’ name is only a draw among confirmed Marvelites. Marvel’s next motion comic series, an adaptation of Joss Whedon’s tenure on Astonishing X-Men, seems like a more lucrative move (even if all Whedon’s dialogue reads like Gilmore Girls for geeks).

The problem with Marvel’s motion comics, though, isn’t really specific to their content. It’s that motion comics–in general–are basically just shitty cartoons. Take another look at the above trailer, then watch this footage:

The Astonishing X-Men art–adapted from John Cassady’s work on the comic of the same name–is prettier. Hulk has way better music. But in both, characters move about with distracting stiffness. At the time it was made, the Hulk cartoon’s clunkiness may not have stood out. The X-Men motion comic’s certainly does, though, and it makes one wonder why motion comics are being made at all–the technology behind them seems to lag behind the ambitions of the folks putting them out.

The obvious question is, ‘Why not an actual animated adaptation of Spider-Woman or Astonishing X-Men?’ Marvel’s been doing plenty of these lately, too. Today on the LA Times‘ Hero Complex blog, beloved comics artist Neal Adams attempted an answer:

[In the X-Men motion comic] you will actually see the drawings of artist John Cassaday come to life and move. You will hear the words of the writer Joss Whedon (of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Dollhouse” fame) spoken by John Cassaday’s drawings…It’s a comic book come to life and fully drawn by your favorite artist and written by your favorite writer.

Now it’s not mentioned on the blog that Adams supervised the Astonishing X-Men adaptation. Disingenuous? Maybe a little, but it at least explains why Adams doesn’t touch the criticism that motion comics Don’t. Look. Good.

Adams’ influence on comic artists, and the esteem in which he’s held, will outlast any comments he makes on a probable fad like motion comics. That said, his claim that motion comics are comics “come to life” actually suggests what’s most frustrating about them–when viewing a motion title, readers are prevented from bringing a story to life themselves. (And don’t receive the same kind of stimulation they would from more fluid film animation in return.) The benefits one finds with comics as a medium are lost in conversion: viewers can no longer linger on panels, imagine the tenor of an exchange between characters, or link a sequence of images together to form a narrative. If I didn’t enjoy the work readers do after grabbing a comic, I wouldn’t read them, and it’s not work I’d like performed for me. For those who disagree, Astonishing X-Men arrives online October 28.

The proposals include a range of extremely controversial measures, which include techniques and technologies of surveillance and enhanced cooperation with the United States.

Frankly, it’s all summed up by the opening words to the report from the EU Council Presidency:

“Every object the individual uses, every transaction they make and almost everywhere they go will create a detailed digital record. This will generate a wealth of information for public security organisations, and create huge opportunities for more effective and productive public security efforts”.

Was it not Goethe who said “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free”.

To paraphrase one Dan Humphrey: Do with this what you will.

While i hate the idea of nate and blair together, and adore the C/B chemistry, i cant help but admit that im more than okay with this if Josh wants to take it here. Here’s why:

1. have you seen how freaking cute these two are in real life? Seriously.

2. theyre the only other couple besides Chuck and Blair that actually has had believable chemistry on this show (remember that whole Dangerous Liasons storyline??). Granted, that might be because Ed Westwick could woo a stuffed animal, Chace Crawfrd is way too gayface, and PennB is just a complete dufus, but still.

Wow, another fantastic episode. Unfortunately I didn’t get to enjoy it as fully as I would hav

Wow, another fantastic episode. Unfortunately I didn’t get to enjoy it as fully as I would have liked on my first pass since I had to be here at work tonight… but I managed to catch most of the episode amidst having to vacate my nook to ‘work.’

Here’s the rundown of what I thought were the most important bits:

John ended up in the same place that Ben did when he turned the wheel

This time cameras were posted

Widmore was waiting for Locke to get tricked into leaving

As he was by Ben many years ago, exiled.

Widmore convinces Locke that he’s the good guy

After the wonderment of Locke appearing exactly the same as 50 years before

Gives him money, a new identity, a wheelchair and a driver

Matthew Abaddon who’s job it is ‘to get people where they need to be’

Locke sets off to find the O6

Sayid is building houses in the Dominican Republic

Locke tells Abaddon he wants to find Helen

Walt isn’t recruited because “He’s been through enough”

But Walt has been having dreams about Locke in a suit on the island

Hurley assumes Locke is dead when he sees him

Freaks out when he finds out he’s alive and actually there

Also freaks out about Abaddon because he is “EVIL!”

Kate refuses, asks Locke about love

“I was angry, obsessed” “Look how far you’ve come”

Drives Locke further to find Helen, Abaddon caves

Helen died of a brain aneurism

Abaddon is shot at the cemetery; Locke escapes but gets in a wreck

Which brings him into the hospital bed of Jack

“Your father says hello”

Locke writes his letter to Jack

Prepares to kill himself

Last second a knocking at the door

In comes Ben to save the day

Talks Locke out of it

And kills him as soon as he gets Eloise Hawkings’ name

Windex can clean ANYthing

On the island…

Ceaser explores an apparent Dharma building

Illana comes in saying they found a man in the water wearing a suit

It’s John Locke, alive

“You asked me what I remember. I remember dying.”

There was a flash of light and some people on the plane simply disappeared

Otherwise everyone is accounted for, including the injured…

Including Ben

“He’s the man who killed me.”

A ton of answers, some I didn’t even mention here because I wasn’t able to hear a whole lot of what I knew was important dialogue. For example, when Widmore was explaining the whole Island situation. Now that we’ve seen this episode, I think it would have been far worse to have this and ‘316′ in reverse order, it would have been way more confusing. And so, new questions I have…

Was Widmore telling the truth after all?

How was Locke resurrected?

Are the Ajira-ies in a different time from the Return-ies?

Are Sayid and Sun part of the Ajira-ies?

Why is Ben such an evil jackass?

Will we ever visit 1954 again? (ok that one isn’t really posed by this episode… but still, I want to know!)

A couple of those aren’t really mythology questions; I didn’t think this episode really posed many new questions but instead answered a whole lot of them. They wrapped up Abaddon’s story in a fairly nice little package, and assuming he’s telling the truth, revealed a whole mess of information about Widmore. I also have a couple of other questions but those are just from not being able to pay attention the entire episode.

The only real storytelling technique I took note of this week was the strong references to past episodes throughout the entire hour. Too many to list them all, but the main instance off the top of my head is the structure similarity to Season 4’s Meet Kevin Johnson. Another episode with many similarities is The Shape of Things to Come which detailed Ben’s happenings off-island after the events of him turning the wheel. I also thought it was really clever that as soon as Locke left the island, he got right back into a wheel chair.

I’ll write a new post if I come up with anything I didn’t catch due to the whole being at work thing…

That’s all I’ve got, until next post…

An article entitled ‘Shape Of Things To Come’ featured in the recent Titan’s Official Supernatural Magazine [which we really love reading btw] Jensen Ackles was quoted saying the following:

”Just the other night, when I was getting into bed, I picked up the sheet and slid my legs underneath and as I was about to put the sheet back down on my chest, a spider suddenly dropped down from inside the sheet, right next to me on the mattress and I was just like, ‘what?’ I got it with my hand, put it on the floor, and then stepped on it.”

Interesting stuff we think you’ll all agree. Although a bit sad for the unexpected demise of the poor spider (a second silence please) and ok, moment over… back to Jensen!

At first we were having images of a big clump of spider goop being stuck to Jensen’s underfoot…

(Jensen, serial spider killer)

…but then we started thinking about just how much of a serial spider killer our Jensen may actually be? We started seeing the spider bodies piling up all round his bed. Maybe he has already started to fashion a little moat around his bed (ugh). A big moat to separate his little bed from the rest of the world. Maybe that’s why we don’t see so much of him about when Supernatural is not on TV… see, where we are coming from? We’re starting to worry here…
We came to this conclusion as he continued to say:

See, in Jared’s bedroom space, because we’ve heard that that boy is up at all stupid o’clock-o’times of the day and night pounding pavements an such, he has worked out how to confuse them! It’s daytime all the time in Jared’s room! Spiders say ‘Oh, coming up to night time, soon time to go out hunting… oops, daytime again… staying in again‘ -thus starving them all to death in their little hidey holes (genius!) Therefore, they all then head into Jensen’s room in their droves to catch a last meal before stomping time!

Really, we here at Buckets, have started getting worried. Jensen will have built such a big wall up around his bed using all these dead spider goop, legs, squishy bodies etc… that very soon, we may never see him again!

In S3E15, “Left Behind” Juliet and Kate encounter the smoke monsters in the jungle. I be

In S3E15, “Left Behind” Juliet and Kate encounter the smoke monsters in the jungle.

I believe the Smoke Monster was evaluating Juliet’s memories (as it apparently did with Eko in S2?) and determines that she can not die yet because…

She does not yet have the memories that the Smoke Monster has of past events, that is… She has to live in order for the past to happen as it should/has always happened. This could also be a variation on the whole “You have work to do” and “You can go now.” The island/Smokey/Jacob know that certain events must happen or have always happened, so they do what they can to make it that way.

Later in S4E9 “The Shape of Things to Come” after Keamy kills Alex, Ben proceeds to apparently summon the Smoke Monster to take out Keamy’s team.

Anyway, the Smoke Monster let Keamy live… because if he had died at that point, the Freighter would have exploded much, much sooner. The helicopter wouldn’t have taken off, Ben wouldn’t have had to turn the wheel, and the “Flashies” wouldn’t have become part of the islands past which is (I believe) how it has always happened.

So the Smoke Monster seems to be some kind of Time Cop, or at least aware of who can die and when.

That’s all I’ve got, until next post…

I didn’t see it on the official Emmys list when I was typing it up. But I must have missed it.

Adios a mi viejita loca????

(no te preocupes amigo Linus te seguimos odiando)

“We’ve got to go back!”, Jack gritándole a Kate frente a millones de espectadores con los ojos como platos.

Well, LOST ends really soon now with There’s No Place Like Home Part 1 and 2, airing over two

Well, LOST ends really soon now with There’s No Place Like Home Part 1 and 2, airing over two weeks as I said in LOST: One More Hour. For those of you who haven’t been following since the break keep reading, and for those of you who haven’t watched any of this season, but still want to watch the finale, read here, then here. Now, without further rambling, read up on how the last three episodes went:
With the Lockers: Otherville gets attacked by the people from the freighter (who left the episode before) and everyone gets killed but the main characters. They are keeping Alex hostage and they shoot her. Ben gets angry and sicks smokey on them (yeah, he’s his pet). They all leave otherville and split up (again). Ben and Hugo go with John, and Claire, Aaron, and Miles go with Sawyer. Sawyers group runs into Christian Shepherd (Jack’s dad) and he kidnaps Claire, but leaves Aaron. In John’s group they find Jacob’s cabin and find Claire and Christian Shepherd. Jacob tells them to move the island…
In Jack’s Group: The Doc from the freighter washes ashore dead. Jack phones the boat and they say the Doc is fine. Jack faints and needs an appendectomy. They do it and Jack sees a helicopter coming back to the island.
On the freighter: Michael is being held hostage and Keemy comes to investigate. He reads from a folder with the Dharma logo on it and attaches a thing to his arm. He then kills the doctor and the captain and goes back to the island. Sayid leaves on a canoe to the island and leaves Desmond and Michael to fend for themselves with a bunch of crazy, scared, boat people without a captain.
So there you have it. If you want more info, check here and here and here.

The Shape of Things to Come – La Forma de las Cosas por Venir

Ben Linus y Sayid Jarrah

Something Nice Back Home – Algo Agradable de Regreso a Casa

Hurley Reyes, Jack Shephard, Kate Austen

Cabin Fever – Fiebre de Cabina

John Locke

There’s No Place Like Home – No Hay Lugar Como el Hogar

I was really excited for “The Shape of Things to Come,” the last LOST episode that showe

I was really excited for “The Shape of Things to Come,” the last LOST episode that showed last Thursday. I knew that Locke’s camp was going to be attacked, but I was unsure about who. The appearance of Keamy remedied that.

I was surpised that Alex was killed. I figured that she was going to be given a deeper back-story. We don’t know the process behind Ben kidnapping her, we don’t know how she met Karl, we don’t know, well, we don’t know a lot.

I was also expecting an answer to whether or not Danielle and Karl are alive. It would be pointless to end an episode without answering a question…unless you are making LOST. So it’s acceptable.

I’m glad that the writers decided to show a Ben flashforward. I was wondering how Sayid ended up working for Ben in the end. The fact that Nadia died after Sayid married her was interesting.

This also brings up the whole Shannon-Sayid-Nadia triangle. Shannon and Sayid had something going on in Season 2. And where was Nadia this entire time? In Kal-I-Four-Nye-A. Very interesting…

This post is a departure from my “normal” posts…whatever that is. I’m a huge fan of the show Lost. Well…I fell in love with Season 1, which was an utter masterpiece in television drama, perfectly fusing a depth of character development with a level of plot development that was pretty much incredible. And now, watching it is more of an exercise in maintaining that initial enthusiasm. It’s still a good show though.
___________________________________________

It’s been confirmed. The “Time-Loop Theory” for the TV show Lost is legit.

I am aware that the writers of the show have said no wacky time-travel related plots will be in the show. Well, they lied. Or made a mistake. Because this theory is too solid.

Basically (and I repeat, this is a very basic summary), what the guy who came up with the theory states is that when the Oceanic plane crashed onto the island in 2004, the entire island was stuck on a continuous time-loop of the year 1996. The island was being sent back in time every 108 minutes, which is how often “the numbers” in the Swan station had to be entered. So by crashing onto the island, everyone on the plane broke through some kind of hole in the time-space continuum and traveled back in time to 1996. (The hole was created when Desmond failed to enter the numbers in the Swann station the first time.)

That explains why Rose and Locke have their former health restored because both Locke and Rose were perfectly healthy back in 1996. That’s also why Jack’s dad is alive on the island (I think), because his body made it on the island, and his body wasn’t dead in ‘96. It also explains why the outside world can’t find their way to the island. And it explains a bunch of other stuff too.

The theory also explains the origins of the DHARMA initiative (they’re the bad guys…Charles Widmore is one of them); the motives of Ben, Richard, Jacob, and the Others (they really are “the good guys” as Ben put it); why births can’t occur on the island; what the hell that Black Smoke Monster thing is; and it just explains almost the entire show and what exactly has been going on (even the polar bears). However, it doesn’t really explain how the show will end. That’s not what the theory is. It is basically just a breakdown of how the universe of the show works…and what the rules of the world of the story are.

One very important part of the theory is that Ben and the Others are actually from the future, but in a fairly normal way. They stole the time-machine from the DHARMA initiative in 2007, and went back to 1996 to kill the entire DHARMA organization off…well, except for those members of Dharma who weren’t on the island in 1996, like Charles Widmore (possibly…more on that later). This also makes Ben and anyone else basically invincible until time catches back up to 2007, which would have been never if the island stayed on its continuous loop of 1996.

So…the island was going on in its nice 1996 bubble while the world kept going forward in time outside of it…until 2004, when Desmond failed to enter the numbers, causing Oceanic 815 to come crashing into their 1996 world. And Locke further screwed things up by not entering the numbers at all, leading to the destruction of the time machine.

You can go and read the theory in detail at the “Time Loop Theory” page. It’s quite lengthy…it took me about 20-30 minutes, but really, most of it fits together remarkably well. That guy has seriously put some thought into this. It’s almost like he was a writer for the show or something. Now, as much sense as his theory might make, I’m sure he’ll turn out to be wrong in some aspects — for example, I think he was just a tad off on Widmore. And the actual writers of the show are most likely aware of the theory, and will modify any parts if necessary. But I think he’s really onto something with the whole time-travel/loop business.

All right, so the “basic” run-down is done with.
__________________________

This “Time-Loop Theory” has been around for a couple of months now and has been covered and discussed in forums, Lostpedia, blogs, and probably a million other places. But while it seemed pretty logical, I wanted to wait for the show to start up again to watch for any bits of confirmation. And I think I got it with the last episode (Season 4, Episode 9).

The first clue came when Ben told Locke or Sayid or someone (I forgot when he said it) that “‘when’ is a relative term.” Of course it’d be relative, if you’re a freakin’ time traveler!

Another was when it showed what appeared to be a “flash-forward” of Ben and Sayid in the year 2005, after the “Oceanic 6″ make it off the island. In that flash-forward, we see Ben recruit Sayid to be his personal assassin. He uses the trauma of the recent death of Sayid’s wife as a motivating tool to use Sayid to kill off key members of DHARMA. But…in light of the time-loop theory, this is actually a flash-BACK, my friends. Look at Ben’s contemplative face, when the story shifts back to the events of the island after his supposed “flash-forward”:

“Hmm…I remember back in 2005, when I met Sayid off the island. Too bad I’m back in 2004 now.”

(Sorry I couldn’t come up with a better caption.)
Also, in that flash-forward, when Ben checks into a hotel, he double-checks and confirms with the front desk woman what the date and year are. Seriously, who doesn’t know the year? No one! No one except a time traveler. You’d have to make sure what year you were in if you happen to travel through time once in a while. I think this was one of the biggest confirmations of time-travel playing a big part in the plot.

But there was also that last scene, when Ben confronts Charles Widmore at his penthouse. It had a whole bunch of clues in it…some of which I’m not too sure what they’re hinting at.

First of all, Ben says that he can’t kill Widmore and that they both know he can’t kill him. Which is weird, because, really, what’s stopping him? He could’ve brought a gun. He could wack him to death with his super-stick that seems to be his weapon of choice. He could choke him, stap him, punch him, whatever. But no, he “can’t” kill him, for some reason…

Then they both talk about “rules,” with Ben accusing Widmore of breaking them when he killed his daughter, Alex.

Widmore also says that the island was his, and that everything Ben got, he got from Widmore.

This is where my addition to the theory comes in…
All this leads me to believe that both Ben and Widmore (along with the Others) traveled back in time. Widmore was the leader of DHARMA up to 2007 and, up to 2007, DHARMA was in charge of the island. That’s why Widmore claims that the island was his and it will be his again. In 2007, Ben joined with the Others to hatch a plan to steal DHARMA’s time machine to go back in time to 1996 in order to exterminate DHARMA from the island. It was at that time that Widmore, after he realized he had lost, made a deal with the Others, and Ben, to save himself. “The Rules” are what the Others laid out for Widmore in exchange for sparing his life. And everyone who traveled back in time from 2007 was made invincible at least up to 2007, because they were all alive up to 2007. That’s why Ben can’t kill Widmore.

One of the “rules” that were laid out would be that Widmore leave the island immediately. But he was still allowed to try to find any way possible to find it again — which explains why he was at the auction of the captain’s log of the “Black Rock” ship (it contains the ‘325 bearing that is needed to make it onto the island). This was an easy compromise for the Others to make because they knew the island was invisible to the outside world — and they didn’t expect Desmond (or Locke) to fail in entering the numbers, which served to both keep the island in 1996 and keep it invisible to the outside world.

Another one of the “rules” would be that no innocent people would be killed, a rule that Ben has repeated throughout the show to both the Oceanic survivors and everyone else. When Alex was murdered, Widmore had apparently violated this rule. BUT, he maintains that Ben in fact murdered her himself — which may be true. Because of the fact that she died indicates that unlike Ben, Richard, and Widmore, she actually did not live through the year 2007; She died sometime before that (perhaps 2004? Which is the year of last week’s episode). Ben could have knowingly killed her for some necessary reason, banking on the fact that he could take her (fatally wounded, but not dead?) body back to 1996 and keep her alive there. As long as she didn’t make it to 2004, she’d be fine. But “fate has a funny way of course correcting,” as evidenced by Charlie, so of course, she died anyway, exactly when she died before — and that’s what Widmore is pointing out.

So…yeah, I’ve concluded this “Time Loop Theory” is legit and give it my stamp of approval. If all this didn’t make sense, I promise it will make sense if you go back and read through the Time Loop Theory that I linked to above.

I’m sorry if this was all esoteric babble for all you non-Lost fans. We will now resume regularly scheduled blog-posting.

Benjamin : no no espera
