I’m hoping to finish off my weird west story this week but there’s a lot of stuff going on so I’m not sure I’ll be able to swing it. Next week, though? That’s a definite, I would say.

Sales on The Adventures of Gravedigger look good — it’s at rank 383,742 in print and 100,960 in the Kindle store. Not bad at all!

Once I’m finished with the weird west tale, I might go ahead and start work on Gravedigger Volume 2… we’ll see. Something else might pop up before then that catches my attention.

Currently reading a biography of Oscar Wilde and The Return of Shiwan Khan. Good stuff, in both cases.

It was announced by IDW this weekend that they’ll be publishing a limited series pairing The Rocketeer with The Spirit. I like both characters so I’m immediately intrigued — especially since Paul Smith is doing the art! I’m less enthused by the presence of Mark Waid as writer… not that he’s not a talented author – he is. It’s just that over the years I’ve been increasingly unable to separate his writing from his arrogant, a**hole persona that he uses in interviews and at cons. I wish he took the high road more often and didn’t seem to look for every possible opportunity to slam his perceived enemies. Having said that, I loved his run on The Flash, enjoyed his first Captain America tenure tremendously and think his Daredevil, while not my cup of tea, is light years ahead of anything done with the character in a long,  long time. In other words, I’ll read this and I expect it to be great… and I expect Waid to slam DC Comics and anyone else who’s on his shit list this week whenever he can. I have the same feelings for Chris Roberson, whose chief beef with JMS seems to be that he has to share his royalties with the guy. Personally, I think Chris should look at it as a small price to pay for raising his profile tremendously. Then move on to bigger and better things, instead of wallowing in the mud whenever he gets the opportunity.

The Spirit is one of my favorite characters though it’s hard for anyone to match the post-War brilliance of Will Eisner. I might have to break out some of those old Kitchen Sink reprints I have….

Mark Waid will be announced today as the writer of a Rocketeer crossover book featuring a big name artistic legend, with a non-IDW controlled character.

We’ll keep everyone updated on this. I’m interested to see what the crossover will be as this could be an opportunity to finally check out a Rocketeer comic book.

UPDATE: Since DC Comics let the rights go to The Spirit we have been wondering where exactly we would see him next. The answer was revealed at Wondercon. The Spirit will have a crossover with The Rocketeer. The Rocketeer/The Spirit by Mark Waid and Paul Smith will be released from IDW in July.

We often see  in the scriptures Christ preaching and teaching in other synagogues, but never reading had He read from the Scripture except in this synagogue at Nazareth which He had for many years been a member. In this instance He offered his service as He had probably often done before.  The reading of the scripture is a very regular practice done in religious assemblies of the times and Christ himself did not think it irregular for him to be employed in doing so and since the book was delivered to Him apparently neither did the leadership or members of the synagogue.  The book of the prophet Esaias was delivered to him, either by the ruler of the synagogue or by the minister mentioned, so proving  that he was no intruder, but duly authorized on this occasion to do the reading.  It is no coincidence that the second lesson for that day was from the prophecy of Esaias nor was it the choice of Christ, they gave him that volume to read in.  He found the place which was appointed to be read that day in course, which he needed not to be directed to; he soon found it, and read it, and took it for his text. Now his text was taken out of Isa. 61:1-2, which is quoted in verses 18-19. There was evidence of the providence of God in that portion of scripture being read that day, (scripture which speaks so very plainly of the Messiah) that they who heard Him that day might be left inexcusable.  This text gives a full account of Christ’s undertaking, and the work he came into the world to do.

We also are without excuse when we hear the proclamation of the Lord so that when the Day of  Judgement comes our judgement is a just one to which we will have no argument.  The truth has been spoken to us and we cannot say that we were ignorant of it.  We are also exhorted in the scripture that the things that He did we are to do also and as they are so clearly worded here we are without excuse in not acting in the way that He described His own ministry that fateful day.  Make it a part of your practice to seek the leading of  God as to how you might “proclaim good news to the poor”, proclaim liberty to the captives, give sight to the blind (both spiritual and physical blindness) and set at liberty those who are oppressed.  This is our ministry and calling each day!

So I am culturally a Christian, but pluralistic in practice.  Can I say I believe anything?  Dogmatically, no.  But here is my best attempt at explaining what it is I believe and how that fits into a Christian context.

There is a force, a wind, the spirit that is the energy at the core of all that is.  At least once and probably countless times, the spirit coalesced around a quantum singularity and it exploded into what we now call a universe.  Entropy was (and is) suspended by the spirit and things instead of becoming less complex, became more complex.  Atoms became stars.  Stars gave light.  At the end of their life, some stars collapsed into black holes that later became the center of galaxies.  Vast unfathomable numbers of galaxies contained vast unfathomable numbers of stars.  Around these stars, discarded bits of matter coalesced into planets.  And on at least one of these countless planets, circling an average star in the outer spiral arms of an average galaxy, the spirit coalesced around a set of complex chemical soup and a new type of energy formed: life.  For countless ages, life existed in the simplest of forms.  Until one day, the spirit coalesced around a specific cell and complexity burst onto the scene.  The planet bloomed into varied and beautiful forms of life.  Over the millennia life was almost destroyed by cataclysmic events.  But after each event, it came back stronger and more complex than ever.

Many of the animals that evolved over time had specific organs used to sense the world around them.  Over time, an organ evolved to regulate these senses called the brain.  And for some species brains evolved to the point that they could communicate and sense the spirit itself.  I am a descendant of one of these species called human.

Though the spirit could be sensed by many animals, humans became especially attuned to its existence and its mission:  loving and nurturing life.  But the fruit of this knowledge was extremely dangerous.  By tapping into the power of the spirit, man learned that he could love and nurture life in all of its complexity.  But if manipulated and twisted for individual gain, the spirit could be used bring about great destruction and even death the very opposite of complexity.

All over the world, people gave spirit names and developed practices to reflect the goodness of the spirit.  Sadly one of the problems with a name was that it was a manipulation of the spirit, which was used to war against those people who gave the spirit another name and again became very destructive.

From time to time, the spirit coalesced around a given person, who was given unusual insight into the very nature of the spirit.  These individuals would gather disciples and religions were born.  If the religion on the whole stayed in tune with the basic intent of the spirit, it, like life itself, thrived and was passed down from generation to generation.

One of these religions was Judaism.  Its basic tenant was to love the spirit and love justice.  Two thousand years ago, the spirit coalesced around one of Judaism’s followers.  His name was Jesus.  Jesus became an outspoken critic of how faith in the spirit had been twisted into a very narrow interpretation of laws originally written to help Jews to live in harmony with the spirit.  But it had devolved into a clannish cult of rules.

Jesus loved the spirit and saw the spirit in all the people he encountered.  He boiled down all the laws and regulations of Judaism into two statements.  Love god (the spirit) and love your neighbor (all life).  So powerful were his words, that upon his death, when the spirit within him was released, his words radiated out and took on a life or their own.  Those words even now can bring peace, love and justice to those who choose to follow them.

Sadly too many individuals chose to turn his words into more laws and sank back into the cult that Jesus so strongly fought against.

Christianity, the religion that formed around Jesus’ teachings, is at its best when his followers love the spirit and love each other with all of their energy.  And I will leave it at that.

So what the heck DO I believe in?  Since joining Imagine about a year and a half ago, I have gone from an ice cold stage, through a period of complete disorientation and now at long last, I think I am emerging into a new spring renewal of spirituality.  But what of faith?  My personal definition is: believing in that which cannot be proven (it really annoys me that there is no good antonym for provable).  Do I have faith?  Yes and no.

While there are vestigial parts of my childhood faith, the faith that I now carry would be unrecognizable to my family.  But really, isn’t that the point of evolution, to use something that severed another purpose in a whole new way?

But I digress.

My childhood faith is traditional Christianity.  Specifically:  conservative, Pentecostal, Assemblies of God.  I have written enough about what and why I no longer follow that path, I will not repeat it here.  Suffice to say, I am no longer a part of that particular set persuasions.

But what am I?

What am I?

I have been struggling to say what I am for months now.  I know what resonates with me, but have been tongue tied when trying to explain it.  But this morning I think I may have stumbled onto of conveying what I do believe and why I have been hesitant to expound on it until now.  The language I use is the language of our greatest modern myth, Star Wars.

I believe in “a” force.  The article of speech I choose is specific in this instance.  I do not believe in “the” force as in The Force as laid out in the Star Wars universe.  My reluctance to use this word is that it carries just as much if not more baggage as the word god.

I have faith that I am not a just a singular entity named Ben.  I believe I am connected to a powerful force that is in all, has always been and ever will be (at least in our universe…don’t get me started).

There is a material point of view that people are individual creatures.  And while they gain energy and sustenance from other living beings, there is nothing more, ”to it” than that simple electrochemical exchange.  When you die, you are consumed and that is the end of you.  I don’t subscribe to that point of view.

I feel that I am connected.  And while I fully understand that it may be a figment of my imagination, I choose to believe it anyway.  I believe that all life is plugged in at some level to a spiritual dimension and that whether voluntarily or unconsciously, we are part of a greater whole.  The purpose of that whole is to love and nurture all that lives.

Now to my real purpose of writing today’s entry:  Where do I express this faith?  Well in my readings and explorations of the last couple of years, two things have become clear.  One, I do not want to create my own religion.  At best that makes me a nut and at worst people will be killing each other in my name 1000s of years from now (but a man can dream…shut up Ben).  Two, buying into another religion (Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, or Flying Spaghetti Monster) is just taking on someone else’s baggage.

So where does that leave me?  Do I “worship” (another loaded word) by myself?  What a better way to recognize the unity and connection of the universe, than to “do it” all by myself.  Nope.  No spiritual masturbation for me.

What I have heard over and over, but could not “fit” into was the idea of finding the mystical elements of my cultural faith; utilize its spiritual practices while rejecting the dogmatic elements of its particular persuasion.

Luckily, I find myself in a pluralistic church where the word “both” is held in special reverence.  I can speak with total frankness and candor with my fellow Imagine peeps and I can participate in a worship service that is not unlike many other modern non-denominational churches (although it is part of one).

Our final spiritual place is determined by our Sin and Evil ways, that will then determine our Eternal Fate…Death

 God calls the current Democratic Crony Capitalistic, Nepotistic, Collective Narcissistic Government ( USA ) a  greedy, corrupt spiritual Whore/ Prostitute….and we ask Him to Bless it….God Bless our mess ( America ).…..And you wonder if we are rotten to the core and Evil?!?!?……..We are!!!!….We have become a self–induced Curse……and will self-destruct, like all the rest of the Evil World…“The Lord will judge his people.”³¹Falling into the hands of the living ( angry ) God is a terrifying thing.( Hebrews  10 )

 The spirit state of our Nation is that it has a Dark soul and a Dark spirit. All the Darkness was man-made. Too many people think that they can toy with their Evil and “the Evil” and escape at the last minute to safety and their salvation, only to find themselves trapped in bondage to their Sin with no escape. They live in Darkness and they will die in that Darkness. They surround themselves with Dark souls and Dark spirits forming a Religion that will bring comfort to themselves because they all think the same way. They create Evil laws, rules and regulations to protect their Sinful ways. This life-style is a spiral downward to the pits of Hell. Their spirit and soul will lead to their death.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is the pathway through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord and changing the way you think and act. You will have the Spiritual Weapons to fight your Evil ways and the Evil of the world. Not to compromise with them, not to give in to them. This all leads to your souls Salvation and Eternal Life.

  The Democrats are no better off. The Democrats have built a collective Narcissistic Religious Cult of its own. All man made and intellect agenda driven so forget about God and faith. When this Election is over, this party will completely implode and Self-destruct. Where do we go from here? In case you haven’t noticed the world seems to be taking on a spiritual Evil Plague of Spiritual Darkness. The leaders, rulers and all their followers’ souls and spirits are of the Darkness. You see it in their eyes.

 God Glory is God’s Soul. All that he is and does. Christ Glory was passed down to Him from God. And we get our Glory from Christ after we accept Him as our Savior and Lord.

The Glory of/to God is the Presence, Soul, the Being, the Purity, the Holiness, the Righteousness, the Essence, Peace, The Spiritual Power and Spiritual Authority of God. It is also the Perfect will of God, the source of LIFE and the Spirit of God. It happens by Blessings coming down on you and infilling you from God. And how It effects the True Believer, physically and Spiritually. The GLORY of God is the very Spiritual Soul of God.

Glory when It is applied to God, lacks in words, a vocabulary to describe it. The best attempt I can do is say, “ Glory is a description of God that has to include: All Immense Spiritual Power, All Blessings, All Authority, Peace,  Integrity, All Wisdom, the Truth, Love, Kindness, Thanksgiving,  exceptional Honor, the Source of Life, Total Purity, Total Holiness, Total Righteousness and Absolute Spiritual Leadership.  All and everything shall bow-down to It. After we accept God , He, His Son, the Holy Spirit and the Kingdom of God  all indwell within our Spiritual Heart and Spiritual Body, to do His Perfect Will, all to His Glory. This Glory passes to us through Jesus Christ ( The Lord ). We have to have God’s Approval, His Righteousness, to receive it. This is all Spiritual and may Manifest Itself in the physical at times. Amen.

HEBREWS    1    God made his Son responsible for everything. His Son is the one through whom God made the universe. ³His Son is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact likeness of God’s being. He holds everything together through his powerful words. After he had cleansed people from their sins, he received the highest position, the one next to the Father in heaven.

Once you engage in that moment of experience, it becomes the split second you’re removing the negative thought and inviting the positive energy from your universe.

You will discover that you are welcoming the Law of Attraction into your life based on the thought you replace. The reason is because, what you think, is what you attract and what you create to happen determining the control you have over your destiny. Your destiny is also a reflection of another law called The Law of Cause and Effect. Every problem in your life since your were a child has a root cause. When you can detect what the root cause is to your problem, you can quickly find a solution to what you’re dealing with.

For example: If you’re outside doing yard work and you have a small tree that needs to be ripped out of the ground, but you’re not sure where the roots are, you’re going to have to dig a little bit to find out where they are rooted. You can swing away and chop at the roots you physically see, but if the tree is not moving, it’s possible the roots are beyond your sight.

This would involve digging deeper until you find the root cause. Another words, if you only look at the top surface of your situations, you will find excuses, illogical reasons, and dogmatic thoughts that will prevent you from healing your negative thoughts.

You also want to be sure that you’re not swinging an ax with a dull blade. You’ll be wasting energy. Life is the same way, your mind must be sharp enough where you can find the negative cause so you can implement the necessary positive effects. To increase the arsenal of your thinking, you want to add the Law of Focus into your universe.

The very thought you focus on in your conscious state, is what you will paint into your reality. Be the artisan you want your life to resemble. Stay focused at all times. Avoid becoming easily distracted. It will only help you. A powerful thought process that allows your mind to think more positive is knowing when you have a problem, be the pro that leads you into becoming the solution provider, not the problem creator.

If you face a negative situation, look at at it as a challenge. Inside the arrangement of 9 letters, seek the change in which you see yourself to be. When an obstacle in your life seems to be difficult to maneuver around, think to yourself; you won’t become stale, rather you will acknowledge the opportunity within your problem while devising the right solution to continue on your path of success.

Life will consist of problems till it’s your time. Remember, life is 10% problems and 90% is how you deal with them. Be a part of the 90% ratio and your negative thoughts will diminish on a daily basis the same way you create them.

Abraham received God who appeared as a man with all his heart.

Then, What should we do?

Even though God appear as a man, if He fulfill all the prophecies of the bible, then we must receive Him as God.

Then we can become heavenly heirs according to the promise.

In the age of Holy Spirit, the bible says that our God appear as the Spirit and the bride to give us water of life, namely the promise(Jn. 4:14, 1Jn. 2:25)

Rev. 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

In this age, according to what Abraham did, Let’s receive the Spirit(Christ ahnsahnghong) and the birde(God the Mother) who have come to this earth in the flesh to allow us heaven!!

The myths of many cultures feature a vast Serpent that dwells in the waters of the Abyss beyond the boundaries of the Cosmos.

In the Enuma Elish of Babylon, Tiamat, the Chaos Goddess of the Primordial Sea, symbolised as a dragon or sea serpent, emanated the younger Gods who later made war against her and carved the Cosmos out of her body.

In Hebrew myth, it was named Leviathan, and was, according to Isaiah and the Psalms, a Serpent of the Sea that Yahweh would destroy.

In Egypt, it was named Apep, the World Encircler, dwelling outside the order of Ma’at (the Cosmos), threatening the existence of the Gods and the Cosmic Order in the darkness of night.

To the Greeks , an equivalent deity was Typhon, the father of all monsters with a hundred dragon’s heads protruding  from a humanoid torso set upon winding a serpent’s coil. In his rages he attacked the gods of Olympus by hurling ruined mountains at them, leading to cataclysmic events that come close to destroying all life before Zeus finally triumphs over him.

In the myths of the North, the Midgard Serpent, Jormunganðr encircled the world, as did Apep in Egyptian myth, clutching his own tail in his teeth, thus keeping the order of the world bound. It would be when he released his grip on his tail that he would be loosed from the waters, and would fly through the skies of Midgard, poisoning the air and heralding the coming of Ragnarök – the undoing of the Cosmic order of Asgard. The role of Jormunganðr is complimented by Niðhöggr, the dragon who gnaws at the root of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, which represents the entirety of the Cosmic Order.

What each Chaotic dragon or serpent represents in these mythical accounts is the consciousness of the Abyss itself. Being the Prima Materia of mind and of Spirit, as emanated from the Pleroma, the Abyss is not inert, like matter, but is conscious and self-aware. The Abyss is a God in its own right, but is completely detached from all other godforms, being alien and separate from them, just as it is separate from and even hostile to the realm of matter that it preceded and encircles.

In certain accounts the Abyss was a direct or indirect (and sometimes forced, in the accounts of Marduk slaying Tiamat and Apzu and Oðhinn and his brothers carving up Ymir) progenitor of the Cosmos. In these myths, the Gods that themselves emanated from the Abyss intervened in the emanation of the material from Primordial Chaos by manipulating the Primordial Essence and forming matter from it.  By giving mass to spirit, thus burdening and impurifying it, these Gods became Demiurge figures – those that created the material Cosmos. The ‘dilution’ of Spirit that occurs when pouring it into matter led to a natural conflict arising in the being of the Abyssal waters, which had now themselves been sullied and mutated by this further Emanation.

And so the waters became represented as inhabited by a wild and terrible Serpent that seeks the undoing of matter and Order and the resolution of the Waters’ original state of wholeness. The Ouroboros, the serpent that we see gnawing at its own tail in Gnostic and Alchemical works, represents this desire for return. It is an alchemical sigil that signifies the return of Being to its root, which in the case of humanity, is the Spirit returning to its Divine source. In either case this return is only possible when the material cell that detains the Spirit has been abandoned or overcome.

On a human level, the Serpent rises in us in the disturbances felt in the ebb and flow of balance in the psyche between its identification with the needs and desires of the body and its longing for the Spirit. The Spirit, being Chaotic, and thus free and lawless, longs for the destruction of the Material prison that binds it to rules that it cannot abide. And so it fights with all it has to rebel against the Godly powers of Order, who combine their strength and, with their greater numbers, closely manage victory. However, as most clearly seen in the illustrative nature of Ragnarök, whatever defeats or victories are gained by each side are only ever part of an eternal cycle that endlessly repeats itself.

Spring break this week! Woo! Taking it easy this spring break. Got a lot of cleaning already done and spent my whole weekend sleeping which lead to the most intense vivd dream I’ve ever had. It was so beautiful and breath taking! My mind is finally well rested again and its about time I become spiritually connected again. I’m connecting with the universe once again. I feel so good up and down my soul.

Also I turned my poetry into a local contest last week. So maybe I’ll end up winning something, that would be nice. On that note, I love where my poetry is going at the moment. I’m very excited where my work is going. Writing is becoming more and more a part of myself and I’m falling head over heels with it. I’ve made plans of looking into a MFA programs focusing on poetry. I’m very excited and hoping one day my work will make a difference.

Finally almost done with Eat, Pray, Love! I’m in love with this little book. I just picked it back up again after not reading it for about three months and might I add this was the book I needed for this last weekend and this up coming week. Planning on finishing it up by tonight and going to pick up a new book tonight. By I wanted to talk about a part of the book. Elizabeth Gilbert and a few people she meets in Italy talk about how everything seems to have a word. Like cities and such. They then proceed to talk about what they think their word is. I realized what my word is Resilience. Which is something I hope to get tattooed on my back soon, well Resilience Gene is what I want tattooed on my back and I cannot wait for this tattoo to happen!

I’m looking forward to the changes going on inside of myself and the feelings transforming throughout my body. My spirit is ready for the changes happening.

Newton’s law of universal gravitation states that every point mass in the universe attracts every other point mass with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

Likewise, in spiritual situation,

Rev. 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

The Spirit and the bride are calling us. Why?

It’s because there is a spiritual law of universal gravitation.

After coming to the Spirit and the bride, we can receive water of life, namely eternal life(Jn. 4:14).

Psalms 73:28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.

God gave blessings to the one who is near God. That is,

Psalms 133:3 For there the Lord bestows his blessing,  even life forevermore.

In other words, The Spirit and the bride who give us water of life ,namely eternal life are Elohim God!!!

(Elohim (אֱלֹהִ֔ים) is a grammatically plural noun for “gods” = the spirit and the bride)

Let’s think one more about the law of universal gravitation.

As you know, if distance between them will be increase, universal gravitation will become decrease.

In other words, if we will not be near the Spirit and the bride, spiritual universal gravitation will become decrease and cannot receive blessing of eternal life.

Then, What will you do?

After turning to God, God make spiritual gravitational constant ‘zero’.

Therefore, we should know God, the Spirit and the bride, who can lead everyone to eternal life.

Then, we should stay in God, the Spirit and the bride.

Then how can we return to God?

2 Chronicles 30:1 Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah and also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh,inviting them to come to the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem and celebrate the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel.

2 Chronicles 30:6 At the king’s command, couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the king and from his officials, which read: “People of Israel, return to the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, that he may return to you who are left, who have escaped from the hand of the kings of Assyria.

2 Chronicles 30:9 If you return to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

That is the Passover.

In the old testament, they were protected from all disasters by God.

Jn. 6:53-56 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

In the new testament, those who keep the Passover can receive eternal life and go to heaven.

Lk. 22:15, 19-20 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. …  And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

After keeping the Passover, God make spiritual gravitational constant ‘zero’.

This Passover established by our God’s blood.

In other words, there is sacrifice of God.

Therefore, Let’s keep the Passover which the Spirit(Christ Ahnsahnghong) and the bride(God the Mother) said in WMSCOG(World Mission Society Church of God).

In some Esoteric schools of thought the Abyss is the point where the visible, causal realm of material existence ends and the invisible, acausal and numinous realm begins. To enter the Abyss is a temporary apokatastasis of the mind and spirit to the pre-Cosmic Azoth or Prima Materia. It is to delve ones consciousness into the primordial waters of pure spirit that separate the world as we know it from the Totality of The Divine.

Entry to the Abyss becomes possible through the Dissolution of the Self, which begins with an apprehension of the numinous and progresses into the undoing of one’s mundane identity. It evolves as a path of undoing, of stripping away the layers of falsehood that the hollow society of our material world construct around our spiritual core, and of unifying opposing aspects of the Self into a more complete whole.

When a better-realised, individuated version of our Being begins to emerge, and we start to see the timeless, Divine origin of Spirit, we can begin to apprehend the Abyss. Once this apprehension begins, the process of dissolution is taken further so that the better-realised Self  is stripped of its fleshly identity until it merges with the depths of the psyche within us and then with the cold waters of the outer darkness beyond us that are the source of all consciousness. Aleister Crowley’s chosen method of dissolution  involved him receiving anal intercourse – which was not his usual predilection – under the hot desert sun, while the Internal Adepts of the Order of Nine Angles are required to live in an underground cave in primitive solitude for one lunar cycle before assuming their place as a Magister Templi – the degree, in many esoteric systems,  that infers one has experienced an immersion of the psyche in the Abyssal waters.

As seen above, the essential technique of dissolving the Self comes from performing acts that cause the ego to fragment, leaving a bare, unprotected core of psyche exposed like pure flame gleaming through the obfuscating fog of worldliness that clouds the typical soul. This process of stripping away the temporal, earthly self to unify with the eternal Divine is known in Alchemy as coniunctio,  the Divine Marriage or entering the Bridal Chamber, whereby the profane becomes unified with the sacred. Once this conjunction has been attained, one can be said to have entered the Abyss.

The ultimate reason why one would choose to enter the Abyss and touch the Philosopher’s Stone with their psyche while they still live – which is clearly a difficult, dark and dangerous process – is so that enough spiritual understanding, fortitude and knowledge can be attained for the Union with the Pleroma after death, which is essentially a matter of the spirit coming to an understanding of itself. This Union is a form of post-mortal existence that is far beyond the various levels of the Abyss where most souls rest, linger or perish. It is the return of the spirit to its ultimate Source, which is what every soul urges for at its deepest base.
