There’s a list as long as your arm of artists who’s recorded at Dallas’ Crystal Clear Sound (and it keeps growing).

Built in 1979 by Merle Baker (who owned it until it sold to Sam Paulos in1990), Crystal Clear Sound is a highly-respected studio that still makes its home on Don Drive in the Big D.

Among the hundreds of bands to lay down tracks at Crystal are groups you’ve never heard of (Eerie Lane, One Red Martian), super cool bands who got their start at Crystal (like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Reverend Horton Heat[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Toadies[/lastfm]) to major names like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ted Nugent[/lastfm] and the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Dixie Chicks[/lastfm].

Crystal Clear is where [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kirk Franklin and the Family[/lastfm] recorded their first album in the early ’90s, a disc that sold multi-millions of copies.

Divergent musical styles for sure, all from the same spot.

Props to Keith Rust, Clear’s manager, who helped with some info…

As I sit here listening to today’s chosen play list on my music player, I am reminded why I love music. The constant banging of my head to the beat of the music. Barely being able to type out this blog because I just can’t help it.

That is the reason right there, because I just can’t help it! I couldn’t even give you the real true reason, but I don’t think I really care about the reason anyway. I just love music. I was 18 once and I did not need someone to tell me why I was horny, I just new I was and went with it!

Same thing with music. Of course there is certain music that gets me way more than others, but as long as it’s good, I happy.

I remember when I went to my first concert. Well, my first real concert was Steve Perry from Journey. I went with my mom and my best friend Rob. Now Steve Perry is awesome. Mans got a voice that can reach far beyond heaven and I will remember the concert always, but my very first real rock show was “The Toadies”!

I remember being in the dark club, which at the time was called The Edge.(or where every kid in down got there drugs from at the time) It’s called Revolution Live now and I’ve seen many good concerts there, but this one sticks out the most.

First off, the show was awesome. If you never heard of The Toadies, you should look them up. They were a great band for their time.

We went to the show and we walked through the doors and I saw the stage with all the lights and fog on it, the music playing in the background for the crowd while they wait for the bands to start, and the anticipation I felt awaiting the band to take the stage. I remember thinking, “now this is me!” From that moment on, I was hooked on concerts, but it was the concert that sent my love for music into overdrive. I mean I loved music before that concert, but that made music become a part of me. I was raised by a family of musicians who would let me play there instruments and turn me on to great classics, but I never truly felt the love for music till that very moment.

As I sit here today and think of the events that lead me to the road of Internet Pirate Radio(iPr), I can honestly say, “I love what I do!” To have a job that helps musicians everywhere, is truly a gift for someone like me. We(iPr) wanted to give music back to the people who love music and the bands striving to make it in a industry that’s turned it’s back on music and what it means to be a part of it. To give them the feeling that young kid felt as he walked through the doors to see The Toadies. So when they have that moment, they can undeniably say to themselves, ” This is me!”

If you are familiar with this song, you can probably understand why people might get weirded out by the lyrics and me singing them loudly.

Wikipedia (the greatest/most reliable source of all time) says, “This song has had its fair share of controversy as to the meaning of the song. The top theories of what the song means seem to be that it is about a vampire, the Zodiac Killer, an odd sexual encounter, or a man who experiences a botched attempt at seducing a woman.”

Even that doesn’t stop me from singing “Possum Kingdom” in my car, the shower, my head, in bed, etc. You see, it’s really fun to sing along and rock out to. The repeating lyrics makes it easy enough for everyone to join in!

So whatevs to the people who stare when I sing “do you wanna die?” over and over.

Oh… you might be wondering what the lyrics actually are. Memorize them in case we cross paths and want to have a spontaneous acapella session. Glee is popular, so it could totally happen.

“Make up your mind
Decide to walk with me
Around the lake tonight
By my side
I’m not gonna lie
I’ll not be a gentleman
Behind the boathouse
I’ll show you my dark secret

I’m not gonna lie
I want you for mine
My blushing bride
My lover, be my lover, yeah…

Don’t be afraid
I didn’t mean to scare you
So help me, Jesus

I can promise you
You’ll stay as beautiful
With dark hair
And soft skin…forever
Forever

Make up your mind
And I’ll promise you
I will treat you well
My sweet angel
So help me, Jesus

Give it up to me
Do you wanna be
My angel?
So help me!

Be my angel

Do you wanna die? (x a lot)

I promise you
I will treat you well
My sweet angel
So help me, Jesus”
