The second LIVE show began with Team Seal and Team Delta eliminations. The first two voted to continue on to the next round from Seals group: Karise and Emma. After that Seal picked out his two choices. He picked Fatai and Chris. It was very sad that Michael had to go. I thought he was very humble and lovely to listen to.

The first two voted to continue on to the next round from Team Delta: Viktoria and Rachael. Delta talked for one hundred years before picking out her two saves. She finally stopped talking and saved her back up singer Ben and also saved Danni. The two that had to leave – Ben Bennett in his pink outfit and Matt. Ben leaving was no shock, but it was sad to see Matt leave, he was very talented and a great showman.

One thing that was very annoying was that the contestants had the SAME OUTFITS ON during elimination. This was so annoying. It felt like the elimination wasn’t live, and that it wasn’t done over a week later. I had to really look at them to see differences. Obviously the judges dressed different to last week, and Danni Da Ros did not have horrible scary hair. She sported lovely new long curly locks. Very pretty, great choice stylists. I just hope that they don’t keep on doing that at every elimination, dressing them in the same outfit as last time, How utterly silly.

Overall the stylists really did do much better last night. Deltas hair looked nice and neat, no nests in site, well there was one, Fatai’s hair didn’t change, but, the outfits seemed much better. This will be touched upon again throughout, just keep reading!.

So my first Rule Point for this episode is #1: Don’t dress them in the same outfits for elimination because it is silly.

First up was Darren. He always sings so well. Very relaxing to listen to. It feels he has a happiness that oozes out of him every time he sings. Joel said to him “you are so cool, you have so much swag, so many women around Australia calling you daddy right now”.

The V-Room host (The girl with the afro) Faustina Agolley, seemed to be turning up all over the place. I was watching the show with my Partner and friends and we all said “Gosh that girl is all over the place”. She was, advertisement after advertisement, and in the V-Room. Became a little annoying.

Rule Point #2: Stop putting the same girl in almost every single television add, then also put her in the show we are watching.

Prinne sang an upbeat number, and left much to be desired. I really expected much more from her. There had only been a few moments that her voice sounded nice, other times she sounded out of breath and jumpy. The way she sang the song did not reach the quality that the singer did in the actual original song.

Adam and Laykn both have Twilight hair. They both didn’t entertain as much as I wish they would have. Adam was much better than Laykn and I feel that if I had to vote, my vote would go with Adam. Laykn posed and vogued his little heart out after his song when the phone numbers rolled out on the screen….. he really knows how to mush up the hearts of the young girls out there. Too corny for me. Laykn seems to think its a photo shoot, not a singing competition tv show.

Seal was annoying me a little last night. I noticed that when his team members are singing, he is constructive with his feedback, but not as brutal. He is very lovey lovey. When he gives constructive feedback to other team members he often was semi-negative during last nights show. After Seal gives his pushy feedback, once the contestant walks off stage and towards the judges chairs, Seal then gives them full positive praise, when the cameras are no longer really focused on the contestant and the audio fades out.

Jimmy Sang very well, though the performance felt a little ego filled. Jimmy’s time on stage was both great in vocals, but confusing in behaviour. I hate it when men have the sweat mark arm pit and they keep on lifting their arms up. I find myself screaming and cringing at the television “Put it down…. stop lifting those arms!”. Jimmy was very relaxed throughout his time on stage, but he did make an over-effort to hand touch everyone. Dispite the wet armpits and palm touching, Jimmy was still a very talented vocalist and sounded great.

Seal was a little pushy towards Jimmy. Seal said “It is difficult for me to really give it up for you because you where not here at rehearsal yesterday right?” and Jimmy responded “Sick”. Seal made a point of Jimmy not attending rehearsal because Jimmy was not feeling well. Seal said that he teaches his team that the show must go on no matter what. I beg to differ. If someone is unwell, that is the priority. Many artists have come to Australia and cancelled a show because they have been unwell. Michael Jackson did not, he pushed himself to the point of exhaustion. Pushed and pushed and pushed. The show did not go on for him. A true leader knows when to pull out team members when they are not well. It is a competition, you need to be at your best when you get on the stage at the live filming. If you are sick during the week for rehearsal, you run the risk of becoming more unwell, losing your voice if you over sing during rehearsal. I say, good call Jimmy and shut up Seal.

Rule Point #3: If you are sick and unwell, never put anything above that, health is number one at all times. Don’t listen to anyone who says that the show must go on. If you do not take care of yourself, you may not have another show.

Sarah was amazing. She did a rendition of “Listen” from Dream Girls. She looked perfect, her bright red hair, great shoes and her dress was dream like in a Willy Wonka/Alice in wonderland kind of way. I love her look. She sang so well! she had two small moments that it felt she would lose the note, but she saved it. She was a true stand out.

Delta talks too much. I find myself saying ‘Shut up Delta’ a lot during the show. Not only me, my partner also, and all the other people who watch it with us.

Ben Hazelwood was a little bit bothersome. He rushed the whole song. That is all I will say about that.

Laura Bunting came out wearing no shoes, with hair in her face and her eyes popping. ‘Scary eyes’ is what my partner calls her. Many pitchy problems, parts of the rendition seemed unpleasant to listen to. she is very beautiful, stunning actually. I am however worried she may be leaving next week, unless saved by her team leader, as the public will not vote for her based on last nights show. She must understand she is on commercial TV. Doing odd and obscure pieces is a very big risk. It can go VERY well or VERY bad. I do not understand why she did not try out for Australians Next Top Model, because she really is beautiful.

Diana sang a Beyoncé song, and I must say it is the best version I have heard of that song. The Beyonce version is a little ‘meh’, but Diana made it fun. She looked great, her new hairstyle really compliments her. She has a very clear and crisp higher register and had amazing breathing capacity. She really was one of the stand outs alongside Sarah.

Brittany did not disappoint. She was very sweet and very peaceful on stage. She sang very sweetly and it was utterly heavenly. She gracefully thanked the band, and I bet when she did that, every other contestant was kicking themselves that they didn’t think if doing that.

Delta stepped in like a goody goody after Brittany’s song, she said “Can I just thank the band”. Um, Brittany just did that on stage, before you did. Brittany gets all the points and thunder for that.

Taga Paa, I am sorry to say but he was boring. He moved awkwardly on stage and the dancers took away from him, which I am not sure if it is a positive or a negative. For me it was a nice little break from his awkward movement on stage. He had pitch and breathing problems. These problems seemed very evident when he tries to do runs and flowing note changes. I feel he may be gone next week.

I do wish they would not show the contestants backstage in their outfits prior to coming out, it ruins the surprise. It nullifies the effect that their presentation should have. It should be a total secret until they come out.

On whole other tangent, Joel said to Darren on the show “We are married…..” wow, I had no idea that Joel was married. He is actually married to Nicole Riche! They have babies. Where the hell have I been? I must have been in toilet when all this happened. I had no idea.

Last nights show was good. Much better styling and entertainment value. It will be hard choice this week, with Diana and Sarah, also Brittany doing so well. Darren was excellent also. It will be sad to see any of them go. My %100 stayer is Sarah and my possible leaver is Adam, But the beauty of this all is, we never know who will go and who will stay.

Seal was a little annoying this episode. I also wish they did a damn close up of his nails. Seal always has pretty painted nails, and this week they looked holographic and very shiny, I wanna see!. Joel is always good value, Delta talks too much and Keith is your overall nice guy.

Looking forward to next weeks show. I feel that Laykn may be in danger of going, then again he does have a pretty twilighty look, and knows how to smoulder the camera. Next weeks show will be hard, most of them did great.

I just wish the show wasn’t on a monday. Sunday night at 6.30pm would have been good.

Many of you have been reading the head lines today that the lovely Carmen Smith has left The Voice. The reason she has left the voice is because she sang and appeared in the video for the song “GOLD” by Guy Sebastian. Gee Guy has been mentioned a lot in the last few days hasn’t he!…. Guy this Chris that….. now Carmen is all up in the mix with Guy.

Now, as stated by The Voice officials, by singing in Guy’s song and being in the video for the song Carmen has violated the ’Spirit’ of the competition and has placed herself on a different level of playing field to the other contestants.

 ”This was not a decision we … took lightly. Our priority … is all of the artists are on a level playing field,” Channel Nine’s director of development Adrian Swift said.

And,

“In our business we are often confronted by these tough decisions and unfortunately at this time it’s been decided that it isn’t appropriate for her to remain in our competition”.

Channel Nine said the controversial decision to sack Smith from the singing contest was made to ensure the competition was fair for all contestants. Channel Nine confirmed that Smith agreed to leave before her shot at the finals because her involvement on Gold gave her an “unfair advantage” over contestants.

I was very upset when I found this out. Carmen was one of my faves, I loved her sideshow bob hair and her amazing voice.

This makes me very mad. I am sure it has made many of you very mad also. Carmen was great! she didn’t need to flaunt herself in any sexual manner to be heard, she seemed genuine and was and still is very talented.

So, the officials say it gives her an unfair advantage above other contestants. I think this is BULLCRAP. It shouldn’t and it wouldn’t. If this was the case, why the HELL is Chris Sebastian still on the show? Why is he there when he is GUY SEBASTIANS brother?. That gives him a MASSIVE advantage above all the other contestants. It can be an advantage and also a disadvantage. This is the way it would work:

Advantage: People see the singer in a video or know the singer is the brother of another artist —-> they are influenced and think “this artist is tops because his brother is a celebrity/has a video with a celebrity, I am voting for them over everyone else” —-> the public votes in favour for the artist that has committed a so-called spirit violation.

Disadvantage: People see the singer in a video or  know that the singer is the brother of another artist —-> The public are influenced and think “this artist doesn’t need my help in voting, look, they already have a video, or….. look that one is the brother of a celebrity”—-> the public DOES NOT vote for the artist.

It can work both ways, and it normally does, causing a balance in the middle or to which ever direction… leaving the contestants chances of winning to the general public. This is the beauty of a competition.

It is just like the lotto, we are all free to play. I don’t think anyone has stood up and complained and stated that mathematicians and electronic engineers are at an advantage and can’t play because they know numbers and how the machines that pick the numbers are made and how they work. NO, we all play and we all have a chance.

If they had to pick someone to leave, it would and should have been Chris Sebastian. His older brother is Guy Sebastian for goodness sakes!. There is a massive group of young boys and girls that love Guy, and because they love Guy they will choose to vote for Chris, as good or as bad as the singing may be, these kids will vote. Chris is the brother of a public figure. Carmen sang with one.

Now, one could only really know the depth of all this if one could see the contract that the contestants signed. We would only then be able to determine if this is a just cause and if she should or should not have been kicked out.

But, it doesn’t stop us from thinking about the following points:

1. Prinnie has a full production film clip out there on YouTube, and many other YouTube videos. Prinnie has sung with many other well know celebrities. Prinnie has a lot of information out there about her floating about the internet free to be accessed by anyone who just wants to find it.

2.Chris Sebastian, as we all already know, is the brother of Guy Sebastian. Chris has ALREADY hit iTunes top 11 in the past, has a debut single and also has had offers by other labels and tv shows.

3. Mahalia Barnes, even though she did not make it to the live rounds, she was still allowed to audition. Her father is Jimmy Barnes. Mahalia has been a well know figure alongside her father for many years.

The three artists mentioned above I feel are not on the same playing field as the other contestants. They have done many things artistically or have been born into families that already have a celebrity status. Why should they be allowed to even be a part of the show if we base everything on the “Spirit” and “Fairness” model the producers of the show have molded?. When you place these artists next to the other artists it is not ‘fair’ as they have a much larger scale of weight pull when it comes to celebrity.

If it was indeed the producers quest to “Be Fair”, then anyone that has had videos made, or comes from a celebrity family or had been on iTunes in the past or has had many major record deals offered to them, should not be allowed to audition. If it is about being equal and fair, then should everyone with sight be kicked off and Rachael Leahcar pronounced winner because she does not have sight? because if it is about being fair and every one on the exact same playing field, she  cannot see, and everyone else can.

I think it is impossible to be TOTALLY exact and equal when it comes to singing competitions. Every singer is at a different level, vocally and socially. Many singers have been working hard trying to make it for many years prior to the competition. Some have worked and been paid, some are back up singers, some are the daughters of a celebrity and some the brother. If you kick ONE person out, what about the REST? now that my friends, is not fair.

NO. Everyone is equal, sight or no sight, famous brother or no famous brother, famous father or no famous father, and film clip or no film clip…. that would be the ideal, but it is not.

I was online yesterday reading on twitter and other sites, and the amount of young girls and boys that ADORE Chris Sebastian because…… wait for it…… HE IS THE BROTHER OF GUY SEBASTIAN.

So why, WHY does Carmen have to leave, and other contestants are allowed to stay?

This is why I feel it is one of these three things:

1. Purely contractual, she sang in the Guy Sebastian video clip just after the cut off period stated within her contract with The Voice.

2. The Voice producers wanted to created some sort of story, attention, good watching value, a scandal. Scandal = more watchers = higher ratings = show producers happy.

3. A record label out there saw her and wanted her so, one plus one is two….. they found a way to get her off the show.

Whatever the reasons may be, the world talks about being fair and having ‘Spirit’. The world talks about every contestant being on an equal playing field…… I feel it is all BULLCRAP. There are always favorites, loop holes, allowances for some and the boot for others.

If you want an equal playing field…… put it in the contract that “You may not have any professional level videos released, no top 20 iTunes releases, and not be directly related to a celebrity”.

Then we will not have all the bullcrap going on in the show, and we have a REAL winner.

I am very upset Carmen had to go, and I know a lot of you out there are with me on this.

Chris Sebastian and Guy Sebastian….. to compare or not compare?

We have two sets of fans, the fans that LOVE the idea of having Chris Sebastian make it through the voice, and then those of you that HATE the idea of Chris Sebastian even being a part of the competition.

I found myself a little bit tense in watching Chris on stage and hearing a Guy type of tone colour come out of his mouth, but I also am a strong believer that everyone deserves a shot at their dreams. They just sound so alike!. They are brothers, they look a little similar, and sound a lot alike. One has a lot more experience, and that is a given as Guy has been in the industry longer.

Chris Sebastian, as seen in the picture to our right, had released his debut single  “Flow” last year in July. I will put up a section of an article that was written by Cameron Adams for the “Perth Now”.

Chris Sebastian, 22, released his debut single, Flow, on iTunes this week, where it instantly hit No. 11. But Chris is keen to be seen as his own man.
Moving to Melbourne from Adelaide three years ago to further his music career, he has worked as a singing teacher and producer to help fund his first album.
He has kept creative control by releasing his music independently and avoided offers from major labels and TV shows.
“There’s things I could have done in the past but I wanted to do my own thing,” he says.

“TV was Guy’s thing, it worked so well for him. I don’t want to just be Guy’s brother, I want to prove myself as an artist and do what I need to do to make myself known.”
“I think I’m at that point now. People are starting to see I’m not just Guy’s little brother.”

Now, after reading this article, and reading many other interviews and articles that state the same sort of thing, I feel that Chris Sebastian has greatly contradicted himself.

My main question and concern is, Why the HELL is Chris even on the show? my question is based on the following:

1.   Chris firstly begins by saying that “There are things I could have done in the past but I wanted to do my own thing”. He released his music independently, and avoided offers made to him by major record labels and TV shows (as seen in the article above). The whole point of being on The Voice is to get a record deal and is to be on a TV show.
2. Why is he on the TV show when he stated that “TV was Guy’s thing, it worked so well for him. I don’t want to just be Guy’s brother, I want to prove myself as an artist and do what I need to do to make myself known”. Again….. WHY is he then on the show?. If he wanted to prove himself, why did he not take the offers made to him by record labels and TV shows when he released his single ‘FLOW’?.

If Chris did not want to do anything like his brother Guy and nor be compared to his brother, why is he on the show? he made it to iTunes top 11 and also received offers from labels all on his own accord ALREADY….. why is he working backwards and doing what he said in the start he didn’t want to do “The Tv” thing.

If Chris wanted make it himself he should have taken the offers made to him after his single ‘FLOW’ was released. Not decline those, and enter in a competition to receive the same outcome.

It feels to me he is going in circles, and his stories do not add up and they do not make sense. He says one thing, but has done another, and does one thing and then says another. I don’t know what the deal is with him.

Do we feel that this could be a new version of the JACKSON family? the Sebastian family?. We had The Jackson 5 and then Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson, both very successful in their own right, but could we really compare the Sebastian’s to the Jackson’s?  In my opinion, and as I am sure in the opinion of many Michael and Janet Jackson fans, we cannot even begin to compare the Sebastian’s to the Jackson’s.

Chris did state that he wanted to do this on his own and make it on his own merit. The con in this is that it is unavoidable that the public will compare him to Guy. The public has not been conditioned to see the Sebastian’s as “The Sebastian’s”. We have all been conditioned to think of Guy Sebastian, Australian Idol Winner Guy Sebastian, and now Guy Sebastian….. who also has a little brother that sings…… true or not true?

Are there any other Sebastian family members that can sing and dance?. Will we be watching another show down the track and be surprised by another Sebastian family member?

Chris has very big shoes to fill, and even harder, not just to fill them but to also stand beside those shoes, because Guy hasn’t left any shoes behind as of yet.

If Chris doesn’t make it doing the TV Thing like his brother did, he can always do the whole ‘FLOW’ thing again, and hope that he gets those offers from labels and TV shows…… for a SECOND time.

Good luck Chris Sebastian, and I hope that you don’t keep on going in circles and worrying about if you will be held up against your brother. It is something that is beyond your control…… unless this whole ‘Tv thing’ Chris is doing is to gain a stronger momentum for his self-made album? who knows…. I don’t. We will just have to wait and see.

Am I the only one that found it a little dry? Am I the only one that felt that some of the styling and clothes time machined us back to 1995?

Well it was and it did.

I felt that only a few of them had brought their voice and style to the show last night.

The show began with all 4 mentors singing together on the stage. They sung their little hearts out, then when they finished casually walked across to their mentor chairs. Left much to be desired.

They then introduced The V-Room. This is a very funky looking room, and it is seen as a glass box behind the mentors. This is where they are on twitter, and social outlets updating status and updates live.

Who else felt that last night had many wardrobe malfunctions?. I did. I was like “WHAT THE HELL IS SHE WEARING…… What is HE WEARING??……. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER HAIR….. why does he look like a CHAUFFER….. Why is there a pink bird onstage??”

Not only did Delta have terrible pitch last night… but she also had terrible hair , but then again whats new, last week she had a nest on her head and her fringe looked a light dusty green blue.

The first wardrobe that was a disaster was Fatai. She came on stage singing “Empire State Of Mind” wearing a skirt that was a little bit ostrich emu’ish, with hair that did not make it any better… it looked like a badly made nest…. at least Deltas nest looked like it could hold a bird. Fatai sang well, but not as tight as I wished she would have. I feel she needs help with her posture, she tends to stand a little frumpy, or maybe it was the outfit.

Danni Da Ros was another one that had a messed up appearance…. her hair looked like the hair stylist ran out of time and just took the big curlers out of her hair and just let it flop into place. Her hair looked terrible, and it was hard to concentrate on her singing when I was getting constant messages about her terrible hair. Not only was her hair terrible, what was she wearing? did they want her to look like a crow? ready to take off into flight?. Both are beautiful girls, great voices, but the outfits, hair and makeup on the part of the stylists was really poor.

It doesn’t end there.

We also had a Flamingo in the wrong direction, Ben Bennett. He sang a One Direction song, and was very much going in the wrong direction. His stylists dressed him all in pink. Do they not know that boys will TEASE the crap out of him after this? do the stylists not know that just because he is singing a song for the girls he doesn’t need to dress like one?. I think it was a very big mistake to have dressed him in the pink getup. Instead of listening to him sing, and watching his performance, I was picking my jaw up off the ground after I saw him strut about in his Flamingo outfit.

Now, I know a few of you that are reading this are saying “Who cares about the wardrobe, this is The Voice, not Project Runway or Australia’s Next Top Model”. Yes, I know…. but it makes me upset when the stylists do not dress them well, or do their hair well, because, there is a very large portion of people in the audience that will be put off, upset, sidetracked, confused throughout a contestants performance because of these horrible wardrobe malfunctions, and it may contribute to a loss of voting for our favourite Voices. Bad styling pulls focus that should not be pulled away from the artist.

So, my first rule point is:

#1 : The Voice Stylist team needs to do the job they are being paid for.

Now, I will not mention every single contestant in my episode rants, just the standouts. Good and bad.

Ita Buttrose was on the TODAY show on channel 9 this morning, and both herself and the host stated that Seals affection and ‘closeness’ towards his team members was an invasion of space. Ita stated that “Seal Invaded their space”. I say, shut up Ita and anyone else who thinks this. If Seal would have sat there like  a king, not moving not saying a thing after his team members finished singing…. then Ita and everyone else may say “his up himself, and doesn’t show any love to his team”. I feel that his candor and affection is very sweet.

Seal comes across as being very caring and connected to his team. If he was “Invading Space” I am very sure the girls and boys would make it known, and besides, Seal is not doing this behind closed doors….. his doing it in front of millions on national television….. He has nothing to hide in that respect.

Rule Point #2: Seal and mentors, continue being loving and supportive to your team members. Do not listen to Ita.

Chris Sebastian is a contestant I have very mixed feelings about. I am writing it but I know a lot of you reading this are thinking it. While Chris was singing I felt as though I was listening to a young version of Guy Sebastian. I felt that it would be odd if he won, I know this may be harsh to say but I am going to say it….. We already have Guy Sebastian, and Chris and Guy have similar voice and tone colour. I was bored.

Viktoria Bolonina looked very stunning, sang very well, but the choice of song and violin in the background made it seem a little russian broadway….. and that is all I am going to say about that.

Karise Eden sang well, more than well she is amazing. I did however feel a little tense during her time on stage. I felt as thought she was holding back, holding in her vocal beast. I wish she would have unleashed her voice. I feel that Seal is using her talent in small dose, in order to build it up as the show moves on. Dangerous move, because people may get bored with hearing her voice sound the same and escalating bit by bit show by show. Lets all hope that the next time Miss Eden is on stage she will rock it out and blow us away…… Joel did say she has more soul than a sneaker shop. Lets hope she doesn’t just have sneakers but brings some shiney shoes to each show too.

I know this may be horrible to say, because I know alot of people love and adore this beautiful voice and soul, I do also, but I still like to tell it the way I feel and see it. Rachael Leahcar looked stunning, but her voice lacked a little. She sang very well, do not get me wrong, but at times the melody and the delivery of the song felt a little bit swayed and off. She did look elegant in her beautiful dress, and feel that this is one artist that the stylists got it right. Her hair was perfect, dress was beautiful, I just wish her voice was a little tiny bit more on point. She did well, but the song was not a good choice for her beautiful voice.

Last nights show was OK not FABULOUS. Looking forward to the rest of the show unfolding, and hoping that the performances get a little more exciting, and that the stylists get it right throughout the development of the artists.

Final Verdict…. I think Wrong-Direction-Pink-Flamingo Ben Bennett is migrating out off the show. I feel he won’t get enough votes and will be kicked out. The only way he will be saved is if each and every single young girl in australia votes a couple of times.
