Back from Ame’s. She loves her gifts! I did something right for once! I got her this really, really low-cut and short dress from Forever 21 and one of those tattered, slightly off-shoulder tops she’s always wearing. She told me that I know her very well, but I just bought clothes exactly opposite of what I’d wear.

I ate too much. D: But it was good food, couldn’t help myself. Ame’s mother showed off her wealth by giving me and The Pest money, and I really wish she hadn’t because I don’t know what to do with my Benjamin Franklin (fifty for my b-day and fifty for Christmas).

Except for some more mechanical pencils (because I stupidly gave them all away) and index cards (because Mrs. English Teacher makes us use tons every week) and a nice notebook (because a writer can never have enough of those), there is literally nothing I want right now.

That is, nothing besides some NEWS merchandise and subbed J-dramas and the Tegomass no Uta 1st Live 2009 DVD (though I won’t be able to understand it) and perhaps even something from RUSS-K, but I there’s no way I can ask my parents for THOSE. Mama and The Old Man will be all, “Huh?” if I ask, because except for origami, they haven’t a clue about my infatuation of Japanese things.

And I DEFINITELY cannot let them know about my infatuation of the NEWS boys. God, even at seventeen my parents don’t think I have the slightest interest in men or romance. They probably think I’m asexual or something.

Well. No matter. It’s not like I’ll die from lack of stuff like that.

Most likely I’ll give the money to The Old Man to make up for the two hundred we spared for Christmas shopping.

I spent the rest of the day playing Dofus on my laptop because The Pest FINALLY got me a subscription. I don’t know how many laws he broke trying to get me that subscription — since he definitely did NOT pay a single cent — but I’m just happy he put so much effort into my birthday/Christmas gift.

That’s right; while everyone else in the world is playing Maplestory or World of Warcraft or whatnot, I have chosen this nearly-obscure-to-the-public game called Dofus, created by the French. (Still not sure how you pronounce the name of it. :/) It takes more of a strategic approach to fighting, rather than the standard mindless slash-and-kill approach.

(It’s so fun being a dork. Who needs to be cool, anyway?)

The first time I tried playing a few years ago, all these French folk tried to communicate with me in their fancy romantic tongues. And each time, I had no choice but to reply with, “Je ne sais pas. Je suis americaine,” because even if I understood them (and I usually did) and answered appropriately, that would encourage them to speak to me in more complicated French.

The candy has Shige’s name in it! I know, I know, how lamer can I get? -is shot- But I got so excited that I noticed this. Normally I never notice ANYTHING.

I zoomed in and took a shot of my character, too. There’s this annoying little larva following me.

NO, I did not misspell shrunken. -_- I spelled it that way on purpose.

Besides all that, I had a nice, relaxing Christmas. Ame’s little sister Emelia really seems to like the dress I picked out for her. I’m glad that everyone likes what I got for them. ^o^

It saddens me when I hear of all the people who got Nintendo DSi’s or iPod Touches or something of that sort. There’s nothing particularly wrong with wanting that stuff — it’s just slightly upsetting to me. We’d been talking about what this holiday is truly about in my Religion class, and we brought up the issue of a materialistic Christmas. People seem to be convinced that if you get TONS and TONS of gifts, preferably EXPENSIVE and including some kind of BUTTONS or SCREEN YOU CAN POKE, you will be satisfied.

In other words, Christmas is selling false happiness. Isn’t that sad?

Even though this year all I got was a coat and two pairs of PJ bottoms from some aunts, I was at my happiest. (And none of those gifts are electronic, either.) I don’t need a whole bunch of fancy, expensive crap to make my Christmas a good one.

All I DO need, I discovered, is Tegoshi Yuya. ^////^ When I got home from Ame’s, I found that there were two new promos for YamaNade waiting for me, full of Tego cuteness!

Have I mentioned before how much I love his Yuki hair? I wonder why he looks so surprised in that scene. Just have to wait until January to see! -can’t wait-

Looks like Yuki is upset about something. XD Look at that adorable pout. Aaaannnd… his phone strap is rainbow-colored!

YOU’RE KILLING US, MAN. That expression + the teddy bear = me exploding from cuteness overload. I don’t recall Yuki ever playing with a stuffed bear in the manga — and I’m on chapter 58 — but I APPROVE ALL THE WAY. b

I feel bad for cropping out everyone else, for they are just as important as Tego is, but I found him so cute that I couldn’t help it. I’ve never seen regular Tegoshi wear something like that before: a lavender hoodie with dice patterns printed all over it. That sort of thing has a very Massu-like image, doesn’t it? The drama hasn’t started yet, but I’m starting to get the feeling that Massu and Yuki have very similar clothing styles.

Tego in Massu’s clothes? THAT would be very amusing to see. XDDD

Toyama Yukinojo~ <33 My new favorite character from Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge~

Err, not that Tegoshi Yuya had anything to do with it. -shiftyeyes-

No, really, even if Tegoshi weren’t playing him in the live-action Yuki would still be my favorite. I tend to like the cute ones who look younger than their age and cry more than necessary and are bouncier than a superball (for example, Honey-senpai and Momiji). ^-^

*mumble* Maybe Tegoshi had a tiny influence.

I like his Yuki hair. It makes him look so young and adorable, perfect as Yuki. His Yuki clothes are probably the oddest clothes I’d ever seen him wear. Seems like something Massu would wear.

I hope the drama producers kept his character close to the original. They already changed the characters into university students (which makes more sense considering the ages of the actors, but it’s still different from the manga).

Everyone else looks right for their roles. The ballet dude playing Morii Ranmaru looks a tad too old and not really Ranmaru-ish (i.e. sleek and sexy), but hey, it’s all about preference, right? I think Kame suits Takano Kyohei fine, even though a lot of people don’t think the same way. The actress playing Nakahara Sunako — something-Aya — is really pretty, you can tell even when she’s wearing her hood. Wonder if she’ll have to deal with all the nosebleeds or not. xDD She gets to live with sparkly Tego-nyan.

Aaaaaaand last but certainly not least, Uchi’s back! His speaking voice is surprisingly deep. Since the only times I’d ever heard him were during old NEWS songs, I was expecting it to be a lot higher, so that came as a slight shock.

It might just be me, but he looks exactly like Oda Takenaga. It’s the hair, I think.

Huh. Uchi’s handsome. Never noticed that before. :/

Right. My fangirly thoughts are all forced out of my head and into this entry. Now I need to report on my life, or else I’m not really using this as journal, am I?

Mama needs to take at least a month off work, sometime after Christmas. After all those hospital visits and scans and stuff, it turns out that Mama is starting to develop something. It might be some sort of cancer, I don’t know because no one will tell me. But she has to take some time off work to have this surgery. I hope it all goes okay.

But besides the issue of her health, Mama is the one who cooks all our meals. And she’s the only one who cleans. And she’s the only one in our family currently working. During and after her surgery, she can’t do any of that, so we all have to fare on our own for half a month. Not to mention that because of America’s God-awful health care system, surgeries cost a looooot.

Money is getting awfully tight when I need it most — my school is asking for donations of food and tons of toys for these poor children who have nothing. I really want to help them, and my school is expecting me to bring a lot in since I’m one of the student leaders, but I don’t have the nerve to tell them that I can’t afford that stuff. They’ll probably say something like, “What do you mean you can’t afford it? The tuition is $9,000, how can you afford THAT?” My French teacher scheduled another dinner night at a fancy restaurant; I have to tell her I can’t go this time. Plus, the girls at the honors lunch table asked me if I wanted to do Secret Santa with them, and being the slow person I am, I said yes before realizing that I have to BUY a gift. We can’t even get a Christmas tree this year.

In times like this I really need to listen to Arashi’s “We Can Make It” to keep me spirited.

And my birthday is coming up in a little over a week, too.

- Eden of the East II delayed
The second movie of the anime Eden of the East, which was set to release on Januari 9, will be delayed until March. This, because the company extended the run-time to 90 minutes…
The first movie opened on November 28.

~J-drama
- Code Blue season 2
I still have to watch the last two episodes of the first season and the special…and a new season is already announced ><. I doubt that I’ll watch it, because
1) I’m not really a drama person
2) The story might be good, but it just isn’t my thing.
I kinda feel like betraying Yamapi, but I can’t help it…
But this will also be a Getsu 9 drama, which is a jdrama aired on monday 9 pm (Getsu coming from getsuyoubi, meaning monday). This makes Yamapi the very first actor to have to Getsu 9 dramas with such a short interval (1 season). Congratulation Pi ♥

- Tegoshi Yuya (NewS), will probably play that baby-face character, he’s perfect for it XD
- Uchi Hiroki (ex-NewS member), will probably be that other black-haired guy.

More KHR character songs have been released =D And I must say I love them probably mainly because it’s KHR.
I honestly like Reborn’s and Tsuna’s song. I really like how you can hear Adult Reborn in Reborn’s song, and Hyper Tsuna in Tsuna’s songs.
I like Gokudera’s, Yamamoto’s and Ryohei’s song as well. But I do prefer Ryohei’s “10 years later” voice.
Needless to say, but I just love Hibari’s song, just like his other 2 songs.
And Lambo’s and Ipin’s song is just too cute. I haven’t listened to the other Kyouko and Haru song’s but surprisingly enough, I like their new song…

This is a Prince of Tennis Otome Game. It was first released on PS2 a few years ago. This is a remake of the game with 3 more characters (Shiraishi, Chitose & Kintarou) and I assume some other changes. This one is also for the Nintendo DS.
If I read the official site correct (with my very limited knowledge in Japanese) the game will be released on February 11, 2010.

Stirile au venit via ANN

I’ve been a fan of the series since I watched the anime back in 2007. Then I picked up the manga. The anime’s quality was less than satisfactory, I’d say. The artwork is less pretty, and sometimes it makes me wonder if the animators were lazy when I see heads drawn as round shapes without faces and then there were complains about the opening and ending sequence that lack creativity since all it takes were scenes from the anime itself. Come to think of it, I don’t usually watch mediocre-quality animes but still, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (or The Wallflower) has a certain charm about it.

So anyways, according to ANN, it was announced recently that a TV drama adaptation is in works for January premiere. I wonder who will play Sunako and the rest of the boys. Any thoughts? Is there gonna be a chibi (mini or small) version of Sunako as portrayed in the anime and manga? For those who don’t follow the series, Sunako is often pictured as short and small as her normal mode and only when she’s in serious mode that she turns into her original self.

Anime and manga aside, I sure hope that the J-Drama adaptation turns out well. I’ve seen and heard of J-drama adaptations of popular manga series turn awry. Thank goodness Nodame Cantabile and Otomen turned out fine and hopefully the same can be said about The Wallflower come January.

Update (December 2, 2009)

According to ANN, the casts for the upcoming dramatization of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge has already been confirmed with Kamenashi Kazuya (of KAT-TUN) and Oomasa Aya leading the cast as Takano Kyouhei and Nakahara Sunako respectively. The j-drama adaptation is set to begin airing on January 15th next year. More info is available here.

My thoughts: Personally, I’m not into Japanese boybands so I don’t know much about KAT-TUN, hailed as Japanese top boyband nor do I listen to any of their song (or any other idol-based boyband for that matter) but the KAT-TUN member slated to play Kyouhei is definitely a hottie. Kamenashi is not the only cast who belongs to a boyband. If you look at the other casts for Toyama Yukinojo and Oda Takenaga, they too, are also part of boybands. All that aside, I’ve got to say that they cast the right guy for the part of lovable and feminine-looking Yuki. Google him up if you don’t believe me. 

Roh, et puis merde, l’article sur .hack viendra quand j’aurai la force de le terminer. C’est passionnant de regarder .hack, mais parfois, on a besoin d’un anime à l’ambiance plus légère.

Et donc, en cours de techno, Kola, à coté de moi, pique l’agenda de chose 1 (c’est son surnom, sa soeur jumelle quant à elle, se nomme chose 2 :p ), vous savez, l’agenda “manga” qui apparement se vend comme des petits pains chez les pseudos “fans de mangas” (je déteste utiliser ce terme, I don’t know why =p) ; et bien elle le lui prend et fait un test de personnalité – 100% d’inutilité – , résultat : Nakahara Sunako, de Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. Cela dit, c’est complètement elle. En moins gore…tabun, ne.

Quoi qu’il en soit, le lendemain, elle me dit avoir visionné les premiers épisodes, et avoir trouvé ça marrant et l’héroine tout à fait comme elle. Conclusion : les bribes de volonté qu’il me restait pour ne pas commencer un autre anime que .hack//sign, sachant que je ne le finirait jamais, tombèrent à l’eau.

De droite à gauche : Hiroshi-kun, Josephine, Akira-kun XD

A priori, c’est un de ces animes harems, quatre bishos pour une seule fille – quelle chanceuse celle-là -, ou plutôt trois, vu qu’il y a dès le début quelque chose entre Takenage et Noi. Ne m’accusez pas de spoiler, ça se voit comme un big mac au milieu de haute gastronomie (Pardon, j’ai faim >_>).

Bref, comme dit plus haut, ça a l’air d’un anime harem, une pseudo histoire d’amour entre une fille complexée et un bishonen de ceux dont je rêve quasi tous les jours. Suis fangirl, faudra vous habituer.

Revenons à nos moutons, donc, découragée, je commence le premier épisode en m’attendant à un truc bien dégoulinant et pas intéressant pour deux sous niveau scénario. Surprise, ça commence avec un magnifique “are wa…ni nen mae” (C’était…il y a deux ans) bien sombre comme dans les films d’horreur. Sunako raconte ce qu’il s’est passé, deux ans auparavant. Je n’en dirai pas plus, spoiler spoiler =p.

• Sunako

Surprenante en tous points, ou presque, Sunako dépasse de loin mes espérances.Ne vous attendez pas à une belle lycée fleur bleue cachant un passé censé être douloureux, et folle du plus beau bisho de son lycée. Non. Si c’est ça que vous cherchez, passez votre chemin. Des shojos dégoulinants, y’en a quantité en librairie, allez y faire un tour. Bref. Je dirais que Sunako est l’exacte antithèse de l’héroïne de shojo dégoulinant  décrite précédemment. Si c’est pas assez pour se faire une idée : /!\ Attention, à partir d’ici, ça va spoiler par ci par là /!\



Boooouuuh

Par la suite, et j’essaie de garder un avis objectif, le spectateur se rend compte qu’elle est en faite une gentille fille, qui s’est renfermée sur elle-même après s’être fait rejeter brutalement par un mec. Donc, comme je le disais, un passé censé être douloureux.

On a le loisir d’observer ou d’ignorer la naissance d’un amour entre Sunako et Kyouhei. C’est comme on veut, c’est très ambigu. Par contre on ne peut pas faire abstraction de la forte amitié, complicité qui s’installe dès le début entre eux.

Kola dit adorer la frange de Sunako, tant mieux pour elle, elle ne sait pas combien une frange demande d’efforts quotidiens, et en récompense de ces efforts, des boutons. T_T

Sunako (alias “la fille effrayante”) est la plupart représentée en SD, ce qui à mes yeux la rend mille fois plus mignonne que lorque qu’elle passe en mode beauté fatale. En plus, j’adore sa voix en vo 8D

Ah lala les autres bishos…Bon déjà ils vivent dans une immense maison si on peut appeler ça une maison, et ils doivent le loyer à la tante de Sunako. Ils ont chacun leur propre raison d’habiter là, et sont si populaires qu’ils ont peur de sortir de chez eux le jour de la saint-valentin.

Kyohei (En bas à droite) : De loin le plus populaire des bishos. Et cela se confirme puisqu’il passe directement premier de mon classement, devant Natsume, Shaolan et Ryo qui étaient à égalité et le sont toujours :p. Comme tout bisho de première classe qui se respecte, Kyo a une histoire tragique. Vous la découvrirez par vous même. Point important : sa beauté ne lui a apporté que des malheurs dans sa vie.

Bon, je ne ferai que Kyohei, la flemme de faire les autres, et en plus en bonne fangirl que je suis, c’est le seul que je trouve beau =p. Quand même les noms des autres : Ranmaru (en bas à gauche), Takenaga (en haut à droite), Yukinojo (en haut à gauche).

L’histoire en elle-même n’a rien d’original, tout ce qui change c’est l’héroine. Je trouve l’animation plutôt mauvaise, m’enfin c’est un anime qui date, et ils devaient pas avoir un super gros budjet. M’enfin, quand on voit des merveilles niveau animation comme Haruhi qui datent de 2006,  on reste sceptique devant celle de YNSH. C’est un anime qui prend tout son sens avec la bande sonore. Ce ne serait vraiment pas pareil sans les musiques de fond et les bruitages. C’est grâce à la musique de fond que les scènes où Kyo et Sunako souffrent prennet tout leur sens. Vraiment. C’est bien connu : scène de souffrance = musique larmoyante. Les seuls moments où ils auraient pu se permettre de ne mettre aucune musique, c’est quand Sunako se met à parler avec ses mannequins.

L’humour – car oui, c’est un anime plutôt humoristique – est lourd, mais pas à la School Rumble, ne fuiyez pas. On rigole bien devant les réactions des bishos qui d’ailleurs, c’est assez rare pour être souligné, apparaissent eux aussi très souvent en SD.

Ah oui, il y a les groupies, et Noi-chi. On va dire, pour simplifier que Noi-chi est la plus belle des groupies et que donc elle est avec Takenaga. Conclusion : Coup de coeur, la preuve : fini en quelques jours 8D . Si vous voulez passer un bon moment de rigolade, je vous conseille YNSH. Mais à ne pas voir si vous êtes particulièrement exigeant niveau animation et scénario.

well for one thing all i can say is BITCH! haha the way she moves her body in the video was amazing so sexy I loved it i knew she was a great hip shaker but wow im jealous. Her black on shoulder strap was suburb i must say it gave her a more wild side but im sure you all noticed that.

The song it self excellent i liked the indie vibe with the guitar at the beginning reminded me of the whitest boy alive with the beat of the synth i would say good job.

on the negative side the OW WOO was hmmm i dont know hahaha it just threw the song off and the cage she was in made her look really really short (2:11-14) and the ending outfit made her look really fat

Appreciation: Actually, this anime was a surprise. I had seen it before but I just thought (and just by looking at the guys in the promo… I must say, WASUP WITH THAT LIPS?!) and I just had a quick read a quick synopsis of it, which I must say, failed, because it didn’t have the most important fact ever: the girl they will be lodging is a skeleton and horror movies bipolar fanatic!

Really, they didn’t mention because they wanted to be a surprise? But that way, it’s terribly misleading! I’m gonna make a quick simulation of Iru’s inner mind when the event occured:

Turururu (surfing around) turu huh? What’s this? Hum… (reads summary) ah… o.o I can see it…(taking conclusions) a cute girl goes lives with 4 guys and all of them will fall in love with her and as they are living all by themselves the temperature will rise and, and! Will be a lovey-dovey fight between them for her!… what a fail… I hate lame protagonists! sigh (dissapointed)

I really do hate stories with lame protagonists… (because the protagonist is crucial in the anime’s sucess), especially when there’s that love triangles that just keep and keep going always the same for a stupid protagonist who lacks a big deal of atleast some intelligence humanity and compassion with the two.

So I had the greatest shock ever: I absolutely love Sunako. She’s not your usual protagonist, but she’s better than them. I love her bipolarity and death&horror love (yeah, I can say I can somehow identify myself with her). The other characters were a surprise too, I thought: oh, they are all gonna be all casanova’s… But they all have their personality, even though it seems somehow the actions are focused in between Sunako and them, like 2 groups, there’s no specific characteristics where you can say that belong to that one character. So one of the things that let me down was that I think they could have develop more their personalities. Fortunately, Sunako compensates their lack, that certainly highlights her character.

But, in a overall view, all the characters have charisma, a characteristic of them and the anime itself, that I have in consideration a LOT, that I must praise. So even if the plot is not quite the exciting sci-fi type, I never found myself bored at all, thanks to the humourous situations: the twitches of Sunako, the goth loli sisters, Hiroshi-kun!, the diversified randomness episodes’ plot, etc.

The animation is good, with high five to the chibis (even though that seeing Sunako chibi most of the time is a bit… lame) and Sunako related twitches&co, and gladly the pale colours make the lips less noticed and you probably just get used to it while watching.

Definitly very worth to watch! If you watched any anime of the harem romance type before, as Ouran is, you probably will enjoy this one too, since a similiar humour prevails.

Rate: Very Good

Besides animals, I also love anime and manga! My top five are…

1) Katekyo Hitman Reborn (anime and manga) I love the Varia, and Bel especially! I also love Daisy from the Millefore, he is so cute At least I think it’s a guy…? If you haven’t seen this and are into tons of hot bishies and awesome action scenes and battles I’d check it out

2) Death Note (Manga is better…) If you haven’t read Death Note than go now! Mwa ha ha ha it is great! I think everyone has read it though… L is sooo adorable AND smart, he’s my little chibi buddy… at least he should be a chibi… *evil glint* I love it when he eats MUNCH!

3) The Wallflower (Mix ^.^’) C’mon who doesn’t love a creepy creature of the night stuck in a house with four sparkling bishies? You know you wanna watch it~ I actually DON’T have a favorite character which is something amazing for me since I usually like having someone to root for as the seris goes on… hmmmmmm…

4) D. Gray Man (Manga~) COME OFF OF HIATUS NOW!!!!! I love Kanda, he is all brooding and mysterious throughout the manga and JUST as we are about to discover his past the manga GOES AWAY *heavy breathing*! Bleh… although I heard a rumor the mangaka had to get surgery on their wrist, if that is true than I feel really really bad about my hiatus rant and wish them a speedy recovery *feels guilty*

5) Hetalia Axis Powers (Anime!)- Maru Kaite Chikyuu~ Maru Kaite Chikyuu~ Maru Kaite Chikyuu~ BOKU HETALIA… Ha ha go scary Russia, and USAxUK my favorite~ *Gets all shiny* I shall never be able to keep a straight face in history again!

I guess everyone has to write about there amazing boyfriends/girlfriends.  I used to be a hopeless romantic, but now i just dont care anymore sex is meaningless to me and dont expect me to hang on to every word you say cause i won’t believe it.  I sit here and ponder is it me? what did i do wrong for him not to like me? Am i just to geeky…  I know im not that good looking and im not all that witty even though i pretend to be,  there has to be someone that wants me right? Do I no no DO WE honestly believe that there is someone that really truly wants to be with a geek who has nothing going for them?  Our generation has grown to be shallow to just check out . My point is that our generation just cant communicate with each other anymore we lost the ability of communication with one another.  We have voices but there so mousy that no one can hear us and we are just fine with that.  We have Ipods, Laptops, Twitters, Cell Phones, and Myspace which i have no problem with but we check out from reality to do this things.  We put the earphones in our ears to listen to our music but we check out from conversations from everything else that is going on in our world.  We choose to break we up with our lovers over text message we cant do it face to face.  We hide behind monitors and pretend to be someone else when the real you is just outside the door.  what happened to playing tag out side? what happened to hide and seek? what happened to being mischievous and discovering new things outside?  instead of pretending to be a super hero outside we can actually be the super hero in the games we play we have WIIs and Xbox and PS3.  But what happened to our imaginations?  The sad part is that we are gonna take over the world… why does everyone think that they are better then everyone else why do we have to argue about who does more drugs?  i find this so tiring what happened to reading a freaking book

What a night now we planned on going out to see a show but the show was cancelled and was placed at a different venue which killed our night because it was a 21 and over club. Now im sure we could have gotten in but Keila (a friend of mine) and I dont have our Texas Ids yet
which sucks, but whatever we went to chicos instead and the to scenic drive! We ended the night with a strange conversation about masturbation and how shocked we were that keila has never masturbated.

Right more reviews tonight.  We have – Kaze to Ki no Uta, Blue Sonnet,  Noir, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge and Bokurano.

Kaze to Ki no Uta (Song of Wind and Trees): An uninspiring early shounen-ai OVA that takes the idea of bishounen to scary extremes – 2.5/5

PLOT: This is a very early shounen-ai OVA based on a long running 1970s manga series of the same name. As such the OVA is really only geared towards those who have read the manga and have an understanding of the characters motivations and relationships. The copy I watched had a preface that gave a basic overview of the setting and main characters, but even this didn’t really help me much when actually watching the OVA. The pace is extremely slow going too, everything is understated and slow to unravel – it’s hard to stay interested. There also seems to be large gaps in the storyline which I assume are covered in the manga – as a result the developing relationship between Serge and Gilbert didn’t really feel realistic to me; I just didn’t get why Serge suddenly cared so much about Gilbert.
Now this is a yaoi OVA and there is nudity and sexual overtones, but its not blatant and is done tastefully as its a major part of the plot – but do not watch this if you are squicky about yaoi.

ANIMATION: The animation is very dated as this OVA dates to 1987 and is based on a 1970s manga. I found the character designs extremely unappealing as lots of the boys look like girls (especially Gilbert) and there really isn’t a lot of detail to them or a lot of facial expression. The colours are muted and predominately on the yellow/brown side of the spectrum which just makes everything all the more dull. The backgrounds are nicely done though – they look like watercolour paintings and the set designs are very true to the time period depicted (1800s).

MUSIC & VOICE ACTING: The score is excellent. Lots of classical piano and harpsichord pieces, which are very in keeping with the time period. I can’t really remember much of the voice acting though, don’t think it was anything spectacular.

Overall Song of Wind and Trees makes for slow paced, melancholic viewing – I’m sure that fans of the manga must have enjoyed it, but without that background this OVA came across as dull with muddled storytelling and much of the subtle nuances and symbolic motifs in the animation where completely lost on me I’m afraid.

Blue Sonnet: Utterly average and despite all the gory violence and action; boring - 3/5

PLOT: Well to be honest I wasn’t really expecting much from this series when I read the synopsis, so I was actually surprised that I quickly became interested in the two main characters Lan and Sonnet – they are both quite well developed despite this only having 5 episodes (well despite this being called ‘Blue Sonnet’ Lan is the true main character). However the plot is a terrible mishmash of scenes and suffers from completely random plot progression. Its like watching a load of disjointed scenes stuck together – there is no real flow to the story. I suppose this is what happens when you attempt to condense 17 vols of manga into 5 OVAs! As such all the characters apart from Lan and Sonnet are terribly shallow, there’s no clear motivation for the villains and no real closure on anything at the end. The random romance thread that was kind of rammed into the last 15mins of the last ep was felt out of place too.  And then there’s the sheer amount of gratuitous and gory violence on display (although if I’m honest those where the bits I enjoyed most :p).  I couldn’t really see what point there was to the long action scenes in the long run other than to show off how powerful the 2 girls were. All in all I just got the impression what stuff was happening way too fast with little to no explanation for anything – a bit of back story and an epilogue would have been nice! But what really surprised me is that Blue Sonnet is based on a shoujo manga published in Hana to Yume! This is definitely not your typical shoujo – there’s no fluffy romance, bubbles or flowers, its actually quite dark, gritty and violent with very few light moments.

ANIMATION: Ah the animation has not dated well – extremely 90s, but not of a high quality. Backgrounds lack detail (the scene in the tanker really highlights this) and the character animation is extremely blocky, although I did quite like the character designs themselves. The action scenes were fun to watch though – seeing someone get their head kicked off or cut to ribbons never gets old! Absolutely no shortage of blood and guts in this OVA, it seems like the animators just had a touch too much fun creating a heap of different ways to kill people off!

MUSIC & VOICE ACTING: I didn’t like the music – the OP & ED don’t appeal to me and the BGM was occasionally too overblown and grandiose. Voice acting was pretty good though.

All in all Blue Sonnet was a bit of a mess – I can see that the would have been potential in the characters but its buried under poor writing, messy storytelling and bad editing and as such this series remains distinctly average.

Noir: An excellent, stylish anime but lacking in blood considering the subject matter – 4.5/5

PLOT: Noir has a very well worked out plotline. The 1st half of the series is quite slow, episodic and ‘assassination of the week’ orientated, but this is necessary in order to properly flesh out the personalities of Mireille & Kirika and develop their relationship to a point were the viewer actually cares about these two assassins. The second half of the series is much quicker paced as Mireille & Kirika delve further into their connected pasts and become entangled with the shadowy organisation Les Soldats. Light viewing Noir is not, as the truth that the two girls seek to find is determined to remain hidden – the viewer is required to think as much as Mireille & Kirika, as we are not given much more information than they are at any one time. The character development is superb and all the named characters introduced are all needed to progress the plot. Noir is an impressive piece of storytelling – not what I was expecting from BEE TRAIN at all.

ANIMATION: Really nice very stylish animation, gorgeous realistic backgrounds accurately depict the various locales that the characters travel to to carry out their missions. The gunfight action is extremely well choreographed and exciting to watch and there is excellent use of lighting effects, unusual camera angles and cuts. Character designs are quite nice, but sometimes there is a lack of proper emotion in the faces in close up shots. The major criticism I have is the completely bloodless violence. You will be hard pressed to find more than a single drop of blood in this entire series! Mireille & Kirika do not hold back on their missions and the death toll is massive, but no one really seems to bleed – all wounds are very clean. It’s irritating as everything else is quite realistically done – a bit more blood would have heightened the drama. Also there’s a bit of James Bond style shooting going on – the girls can stroll through a crowd of machine-gun wielding SPs and never get hit and dispatch their enemies with a single shot from a handgun! But hey they’re the main characters its to be expected, and they look really cool when doing so!

MUSIC & VOICE ACTING: The score deserved especial praise – an absolutely beautiful and very memorable soundtrack that I have downloaded.  I really like Kajiura Yuki’s work and Noir is no exception – grand sweeping melodies, great use of haunting choral pieces, classical scores and thrumming electro perfectly matches the action and intensifies the emotional drama, and all without drowning out the dialogue. The OP is by Ali Project and is quite similar to most of their other songs, but I quite liked it after listening to it a few times (despite the fact I utterly despise Ali Project!), the ED is a nice calm ballad. Voice acting is excellent throughout – a small cast but all are great in their roles.

Overall an extremely good series – highly recommended. Looses 1/2 a point because of the slow start and the bloodless violence.

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (The Wallflower/ Perfect Girl Evolution): An excellent reverse-harem comedy series with a nice gothic twist – 4/5

PLOT: Rarely does a show make such a strong impression with its 1st few episodes than Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge does. I laughed till I cried during the 1st episode – think I watched it a few times and then made my sister watch it too.  The show has very strong beginning and end, but the middle is a bit flabby – these are mostly anime original episodes (I follow the manga of this series too), but even the middle episodes are still entertaining. The humour is OTT with lots of slapstick and visual gags, which get recycled quite a bit but still remain funny. There is also a fair bit of character development for the main characters, particularly Sunako & Kyohei throughout the series, but mainly it’s about the lulz.

ANIMATION: The art style takes a while to get used to – the character designs are not standard bishie fare, they look slightly odd and effeminate with their massive pouty lips, but once you get past that its fine – after all its really the reactions of the other characters to the bishies ‘dazzling good looks’ that makes the comedy work.  Sunako herself is very pretty when she’s in lady/kickass mode, but for the majority of the time she’s drawn as a chibi. All the characters are prone to revert to chibi form at the drop of a hat – it can be a bit overused, but normally only heightens the impact of the humour.  Spontaneous showers of rose petals, sparkles & nosebleeds are also normal in Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge to the extent that it’s like a parody of overused shoujo conventions.

MUSIC & VOICE ACTING: I remember that the soundtrack was very rock orientated with great OP & EDs and I also loved the voice cast to bits.  Sunako stands out for me as well due to her dramatic mood swings.

Overall a great comedy series – recommended if you just want to have a good laugh.

Bokurano: An excellent original concept and very thought provoking if quite depressing – 5/5

PLOT: I can’t really say much about the plot without spoiling things completely. Much of the shock value of the early episodes would be lost if I broke down the formula here – but what I can say is that this series displayed excellent, very well balanced storytelling. So many issues are dealt with over the course of this show as each and every one of the 15 children that the plot revolves around are completely different to each other, but somehow they manage not to be stereotypes. All of them are perfectly normal kids with their own problems, family circumstances and ways of thinking – the fact that they are so normal really adds to the emotional impact that Bokurano has. As the story comes from the same manga-ka as Narutaru there are a lot of quite dark themes and issues highlighted over the course of the show, but unlike Narutaru it isn’t all depressing doom and gloom – there are also genuine heart-warming moments and touches of comedy. But the one thing that shines through is the realism – we see the political and military response to the fact a giant robot is destroying massive portions of the city and we also see the destruction this causes in terms of houses, businesses and of course, lives. The anime also has a very satisfying conclusion and for a change I’m not looking for more, nothing more needed to be said really, even though we never discover the complete truth about everything that happened. I was really impressed with this show as just when you felt it was getting a bit formulaic it throws a load of well-timed plot twists at you and reached a natural feeling conclusion.

ANIMATION: This is an example of ‘Good GONZO’ and even the CG for the giant robots isn’t terrible – the fact that it doesn’t really mesh completely with the 2-D backgrounds adds to the otherworldly feel of the mecha. The mecha designs aren’t wonderful, but the fact that they’re so ungainly and oddly proportioned made for interesting fights. Character designs are very simple but this adds to the realistic quality of the children’s characters and they are animated consistently well over the course of the show. In fact the quality was quite consistent over the course of the 24 episodes, I particularly liked the backgrounds as there are a lot different locations covered and each manages to look unique even though its usually the middle of a city.

MUSIC & VOICE ACTING: I loved the OP & EDs, but particularly the OP (which I have downloaded) but the BGM was fairly unremarkable for the most part. Excellent voice cast for this show, it’s hard to pick out particular characters as the show was quite an ensemble piece, but I can say that not a single character was poorly cast.

Overall Bokurano was an excellent anime, I was surprised by how much I liked it. It is a bit on the heavy side though – I really would not recommend watching it as quickly as I did as its really doesn’t pull any punches with the drama. But if you can get past all that Bokurano is a very satisfying watch.

Another mixed lot of reviews – I’m getting through them rightly!  Still have plenty left to post though :p

i think i’ve fallen in love with this show
i’ve only seen a few episodes but as far as i know this Teacher is extremely depressed and tries to kill himself but one student seems to always stop him before he makes the jump.

This show is absolutely hilarious and i complete love the art design ahhh how i wish i could draw

well anyways yesterday jorge taught me about the Pokemon™ games. you know theres tons of strategy to it i was thoroughly impressed by his knowledge of pokemon haha im thinking of just finding a tournament and entering him in it

Well this is my first serious blog ever so i really don’t know how to start.  So why start a blog well i don’t exactly have an answer for that just that im a lonely 18 year old geek with no boyfriend and is lost in the path of what he’s going to do with his life.  So this blog is going to be my journal my guide and my door to you whoever you are, whoever is reading this because for some reason i’ll know you’ll understand my reasons for writing this blog.

well my name is Aaron Arthur Campos currently i prefer my middle name because for some reason everyone is named Aaron and its annoying the hell out of me.  Anyways im 18 and a graduate from a high school moving on to bigger things community college yay! (note the sarcasm) im not to thrilled about this transition i really don’t know what to do with myself .  Well lets see where this blog goes anyways this little picture should catch your attention.
