Orlando: The Haven City for Tourists

Did you ever sit down with your family to plan your next vacation and then realize that you just couldn’t find that special somewhere where the parents and the kids, and perhaps another relative or 2, could all find something interesting to do?

Additionally, maybe you’ve been to all the interesting places within your travel budget anyway? Well then you probably haven’t been to Orlando, Florida. Otherwise you’d realize that even Orlando ‘V-V’s’ (Vacation Veterans) can always find something to see and do in Orlando that they didn’t do the last time they were here, or even the time before that.

I’ve long wondered what it is about Orlando that draws so many people to this, the sixth largest city in Florida. Well, a city of less than 200,000 people that draws about 52,000,000 (yes, Million!) tourists a year must be doing something right.

It’s almost an understatement to say that the good people of the city want to give you the chance to see and do something new and fun (or even something old and fun, because many of the city’s attractions do bear repeated visits).

This attitude, and the countless opportunities for the fun-loving and health-loving and education-loving visitor, is one reason that Orlando is called ‘the amusement capital of the world’, as well as ‘the city beautiful’.
Step by step I’ll take you through a lot of the city’s tourist attractions (not the least of which are the fine accommodations for visitors, from hotel rooms to fully equipped apartments). In this article I’ll start with some of the more famous attractions, since these are what many people are initially interested in.

Not that you’re unfamiliar with Walt Disney World. We may safely label it as the world’s favorite children’s theme park and the #4 vacation spot in the world.

This grand creation has 4 different theme parks full of shows, rides and other attractions. As well it provides plenty of shopping and eating opportunities for those who may be ‘themed’ out for awhile.

The main park is Magic Kingdom, Disney’s first theme park. Second is Animal Kingdom Park, combining an animal experience with classic rides, attractions and shows. Epcot Park takes you into the future, cleverly combining fun and learning. The MGM Studios contains among many other things, a tower of terror which is pleasant looking from outside but may, once you’re inside, frighten your heart out.

Another famous tourist haven in Orlando is Universal Orlando Resort, which has five theme parks, including the Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, Wet ‘n Wild Water Park, Sea World, and Busch Gardens. Add to this the dining, nightlife and shopping venues and you may just find the ideal place for at least one full vacation. The resort also contains the Universal Studios where you can enjoy the ride while watching movies. If you have a budding Hollywood star in your brood they can learn how movies are made and the secrets behind some movie effects.

Within this resort each theme park stands alone.

Perhaps two of them at this resort are most famous One is The Islands of Adventure, which certainly live up to their name, with wild rides and roller coasters in this quite new park in Orlando.

There is also Sea World, a well known aquatic park, which offers breath-taking rides as well as animal shows where you can see smart animals doing their amazing stunts.

We are just scratching the surface of this amazing town. We’ll follow up with more on Orlando in future articles and I won’t be surprised if you write me sometime to say you’ve planned several vacations there for the near future

It’s not like it’s my first time seeing Arabs, and it’s not like I came half way across the world searching for them. I mean, I have only to look in the mirror to find one. And yet it’s a little unsettling how many Arabs there are here.

Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s not unsettling that there are Arabs. It’s unsettling that there are Arabs who look familiar, act familiar but to whom I am a complete stranger.

I taught Islamic Sunday School for several years and that’s like teaching a model United Nations, only with little human beings. If it weren’t for the occasional African American or Pakistani child, it could even be a mini Arab League.

I also attended the same mosque for as long as I can remember — a mosque known fondly (and sometimes begrudgingly) as “the Arab mosque in the area.” (Worry not. There are also Cambodian, African American and Desi mosques nearby. If you weren’t born lucky — i.e. Arab, Cambodian, African American or Desi — then, you could move away, start your own mosque or get an ethnicity-change.) In any case, my Arab-majority mosque saw me grow from a girl on a see-saw with a jumper and two braids into a hijabi adult who is still wondering what ever happened to that see-saw.

The mosque saw me change and I, in turn, saw it through its countless renovations: the creation of  a women’s prayer hall out of a kitchen; the conversion of a community pool into a sand then wood-chip playground; and the (possibly fire-hazardous) sealing of various doors after attempted robberies.

I was a vine that grew along the walls of that mosque, and growing alongside me were countless other leaves, many of them just barely unfurling.

That’s why, when I went to my predominantly Arab mosque — and I went often — there were always children clamboring about: young curly-haired boys who, embarrassed, ran away from their Sunday School teacher who had magically stepped out of her classroom (and her designated day of the week); little pigtailed girls who hugged my knees and made me feel like a well-loved tree; a playful infant who made it hard for me to keep a straight face at a ‘azaa (condolences service); a bold pre-pubescent boy who, thanks to a badly tailored shirt and/or a thickened waistline, asked me if I’m pregnant (Who needs marriage anyway?); and the same bold pre-pubescent boy who, on observing me with my bearded brother, asked for the name of my fiance. (I know children ask a lot of questions, but do they have to ask awkward ones? Why don’t they stick to the ‘whywhywhy?’)

In short, I befriended a lot of Arab kids.

Maybe this is because Jumpstart trained me to treat preschoolers like human beings, not stuffed animals. Maybe it’s because, as Mama says, ‘a’lik izgheer (your mind is little) and therefore I get along with like-minded little minds. Maybe it’s because I enjoy the children’s company more than I do that of the mosque’s bigger kids (i.e. parents) who play aggressively, are often poor sports and who separate into teams faster than oil and water.

Whatever the reasons, the conclusion is one. I like kids. (No, I’m not a pedophile. If I were, I’d tell you.)

Well, today I got to see an overwhelming number of kids — almost enough to compensate for one hundred years of solitude. Since it was the second day of Eid, my friend and I took her fourteen year-old cousin to an indoor theme park where, I tell you, we found more children than ants on an anthill.

The outrageous proportion of children to parents, the flagrant violations of due process (and, by that, I mean standing in line), and the faces — all were so familiar. I swear there was a boy-version of a little Libyan girl I know, and I saw one of the Sheikh’s children bouncing on a trampoline.

Of course, not one of the thousand children running about the place knew me. And of course, it was strange being there, considering I was neither a child, a sibling nor a parent. As we say in Arabic, I had no mawqi’ min al i’rab. In the sentence’s grammar, I was neither subject nor predicate.

As night stealthily crept in like the Grinch, stealing away the children’s energy, families began filing out of the crowded theme park, and my friend aptly remarked, “Isn’t it wonderful that, at that age, you get tired, and I mean dead-tired, not from studying or working, but from playing?” And I thought, darn right. The years I spent in the golden-state, kicking myself up off the ground after school on a wobbly see-saw, with no one opposite me but the wind — those were indeed the golden years.

Yes, I’m far from the poppy-flower Golden State of my childhood, but since there are countless happy, boisterous, precocious Arab children here, I really can’t be that far away. I guess, wherever I am, children have a way of bringing me back to a golden state of mind.

Since it opened on May 1, 1989 as the third major theme park at Walt Disney World(r) Resort, Disney-MGM Studios has celebrated the golden age of Hollywood with such classic attractions as The Great Movie Ride, Magic of Disney Animation and the fascinating Backlot Tour. However, starting in January 2008, Disney plans to change the theme park’s name to “Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” which reflects “how the park has grown . . . to a celebration of the new entertainment that today’s Hollywood has to offer – in music, television, movies and theater,” according to Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton (August 9, 2007, press release).

Along with the name change to “Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” the 135-acre theme park will launch a slew of new attractions, live shows and special events in 2008 to complement such classics as Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show; Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Major attractions and live entertainment venues to be added for 2008 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios include the following:

Block Party Bash
An all-new Disney-Pixar inspired parade, Block Party Bash, will enable guests to sing and dance along with their favorite characters from such hit Disney animated films as A Bug’s Life, Cars, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille and Toy Story. The Block Party Bash also features high-flying acrobatics and is a must-see for guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting in the spring of 2008 (replacing the Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade). .

High School Musical 2: School’s Out!
The interactive High School Musical 2: School’s Out show makes it debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with a lively cast that dances and sings to hit songs from the wildly successful Disney Channel original film, “High School Musical 2: School’s Out!” Catch “Wildcat fever” at the High School Musical 2: School’s Out show, which will be presented multiple times daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Jedi Training Academy
Based on the incredibly popular Star Wars films, the Jedi Training Academy at Star Tours features an intergalactic entertainment experience that gives young Jedi students the opportunity to learn the “ways of the force” in order to battle and defeat the evil Darth Vader and his minions. The Jedi Training Academy will take place multiple times daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Play House Disney-Live on Stage!
A whole new Play House Disney show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will include a host of new Disney Channel characters from such programs as “Handy Manny,” “Little Einsteins” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.” Designed for preschoolers, the live Play House Disney show will last approximately 20 minutes and take place multiple times daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Playhouse Disney is located on Soundstage 5 in the Animation Courtyard, directly across from The Magic of Disney Animation.

Toy Story Mania!
Toy Story Mania! takes the interactive ride-game experience to infinity . . . and beyond! Inspired by the classic Disney-Pixar animated movie, Toy Story, Toy Story Mania! will make its debut in the summer of 2008 as the newest attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With state-of-the-art, 3-D technology, this thrilling interactive ride will take guests on a wild adventure through a video game where they use spring-action shooters to toss rings at aliens, throw eggs at barnyard targets and launch darts at balloons (scoring points in the process just like at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin). Toy Story Mania! will feature all your favorite Toy Story characters such as Woody, Hamm, Rex and much more.

In addition, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be an integral part of Disney’s Year of a Million Dreams celebration, which has been extended throughout 2008. Disney’s Year of a Million Dreams celebration will feature the Disney Dreams Giveaway, which boasts “more dreams that only Disney can make true” such as a night’s stay inside Cinderella Castle Suite at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, a star-studded trip to the “High School Musical 3″ film premiere, a flight in a hot air balloon high above a Disney World theme park or a private day at Disney’s tropical island paradise, Castaway Cay.

Special events such as ABC Super Soap Weekend (November), the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights (November-January), ESPN the Weekend (late February) and Star Wars Weekends (June) will continue to take place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2008. In addition, Night of Joy at Walt Disney World will be hosted for the first time by Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Held in early September (September 5 and 6 for 2008), Night of Joy features some of the most talented singers in contemporary Christian music for a magical celebration full of joy and inspiration. Four popular acts have already confirmed for the 2008 Night of Joy: MercyMe, tobyMac, Chris Tomlin and Rush of Fools.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2008 will also continue to feature opportunities for kids of all ages to meet and greet their favorite characters such as the Power Rangers, JoJo and Goliath and Little Einsteins as well as Lightning McQueen and Mater from Disney-Pixar’s animated movies, Cars.

I read all the Harry Potter books, I went to all the Harry Potter movies and next I will visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Here I have compiled some things that I hope to find in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter during spring break 2010.

The Wesley Home

Harry Potter’s second home the Wesley’s house.  Mr. and Mrs. Wesley treat him as their own child.  I would feel as if I were in a dream touring through the multiple floor wizard home, which features altered muggle’s gadgets.  My fascination with wizarding items is comparable to Mr. Wesley’s fascination with muggel gadgets.   A rollercoaster through the house would be perfect.  They could shape the coaster vehicles like the flying car.

Hogwart’s Castle

Rumors on the internet say Hogwarts Castle is going to be a roller coaster. A few must have rooms that are crucial for me to have the best experience.

• The dining hall where the choir is singing and the sorting hat displayed
• Living quarters, starting first with Gryffindor and moving to Slytherin house
• The forbidden floor where I can see the fluffy the three-headed dog, play a little chess and move on to see the mirror which displays all your desires
• Then to Professor Dumbledore’s office
• Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom
• The basement where Potter fought one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes
• Lastly the Room of Requierment

The Three Broomsticks

The Three Broomsticks a popular hangout for Potter, Granger and Wesley is where I will first experience a non-alcoholic butterbeer. This local hangout will definitely be in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park.  Universal Studios is keeping a lot of attractions secret about the park, but the Three Broomsticks is one attraction they are promoting.  The pub’s menu will consist of tasty treats such as Irish coffee, beer or ale, and shepherd’s pie.

In addition, to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Orlando is creating another attraction called the Great Orlando Wheel.  Check it out in the video.

Everyone once in a while we get to be involved in some really cool projects here at Yamaha. Not that every day is not fun of course.. as it is. We do get a “Case of Mondays” just like everyone else. Sometime it’s a job, other times it’s an overload of fun. We have paperwork; budgets to prepare; plans to write; and stuff follow through on of course. That is the gig but we are very happy to be involved in something we love to do. It is not hard to lose site of the fact that not everyone in this world is fortunate enough do what they love to do every day of the year. All of us here on the percussion team are lucky to part of part of a strong brand and great products all the while working with extremely talented people and artists. But these extra projects are like gravy and make it seem all worthwhile. This one is neat.

Yamaha and Disneyland have this corporate relationship going back three to four years now. Yamaha is the official musical instrument supplier of Disneyland in Anaheim, California…. the “Happiest Place on Earth.” There have been cross-promotions that have worked well over this since we started this relationship.

What is really special is when we get to help the folks over at Disney put a new act into the park. Their production folks and Imagineers will have an idea for some new musical production and they come to Yamaha asking if this can be done from an instrument perspective. We always try to find a way to make it happen.

So we’ve been working with the folks over in music production as they prep for their Holiday celebrations. They have a Holiday Brass Band that will be rooming the park playing holiday music for all the guests. It’s a brass quintet of sorts except with a sax player and a drummer. The drummer needed room to walk round the park, hold some sleigh bells and perhaps a triangle, some cymbals, snare drum and whatever else they carry.

Our idea was simple: use existing products and adapt as best we can to make it work. Here’s what we did.

We took a Stage Custom Birch drum set snare drum and made it so we could mount a marching snare drum carrier to it using an ET-CLIP. This adapter is used on the Field-Corps marching snare drum. Then we took three floor tom mounts, the RK-FT, and mounted those to the front of the snare drum.

Now here is gets really cool. The woodwinds department has this fantastic Atelier located in our Buena Park office. It’s kind of like a skunk works for wind instruments. These folks have the ability to make any fine tuning adjustments for mostly professionals players either in LA of when they come through LA. They have the same sort of office in New York on 5th Avenue. So went to them to see if they can help and they were more than happy to lend a hand.

It’s fairly basic. All we needed was to just drill the drums. The percussion team just had no tools to do these ourselves. Hey were just percussion guys and not familiar with your ways of tools and drills and stuff. They have everything. Jeff Peterson, a sort of Benjamin Franklin master craftsman for wind instruments, helped me out. It no time we had the ET-CLIP and the three mounts on the drum. The mounts are to hold a very short cymbal arms and maybe woodblock or jam block. And the drummer can carry it around the park with no issue.

I am not quite sure anymore how I found “Wicked Land”, but it is one of the most enchanting places I have visited in SL. It is a small theme park – small in comparison to other major SL attractions, but is lovingly designed, full of little surprises and made me incredibly happy. Somebody give the creator Rehman Polanski a sim and unlimited prims, please!

This tree stump is actually a whole one-bedroom apartment, complete with a bed and a fireplace. A fairy is playing the piano inside and I stopped for a while to listen.

A few steps further, Baba Yaga is waiting and offers to show you her house. Just be careful – and don’t say later I didn’t warn you!

The castle’s gold treasure is protected by dragons, who get angry very quickly. Don’t cross them! You can buy different dragons in the shop in the sky. I got an adorable little shoulder dragon, which is breathing little clouds and moving around (unfortunately I didn’t manage to take a picture of it). Even better, when somebody comes too close to you, it shoots fireballs at them and turns red with anger. But the sweetest thing happened, when I took it back to visit the big dragons. It declared its love to one of the dragons and sent little hearts into the air!

These Wicked Witches catch fairies and then do horrible things to them! You’d better not come near them or they might do something horrible to you too.

The “Enchanted Waterlilies” are my favourite attraction. It just opened in the last days and was inspired by the “Indian Water Lilies” at the Dutch theme park Efteling. I visited Efteling once and it is such a sweet and magical place, if you ever have the chance to go there, do it! They even have talking trash cans shouting “Papier hier!” (= “paper here”). Hello to all the mindless inhabitants of this planet who read this blog!
And hello to Disney World! I’m planning on visiting Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas in a few weeks and I’m still in the planning mode. So to everyone out there who’ve been to the event (or know someone who has) I would like to know, which is the best night to visit??

Please keep in mind:
- I am a Florida native who has passes to the Busch parks and Universal parks, so I am VERY spoiled (or blessed) b/c I don’t wait in any lines– b/c I know that I can always visit again during off-seasons. Bwahahah, I am very, very spoiled. I don’t want to wait 30 minutes behind jolly good British tourists to see many dolls singing “It’s a Small World After All.” So if possible I don’t want to go when it’s too busy.
- I have a very flexible schedule and can go any day of the week. Did I mention that I have no life?
- I want to try and do and see EVERYTHING! Yes, that includes rubbing elbows with Mickey Mouse, taking pictures inside every gift shop, and dancing onstage during every show.
- And I don’t have to drag 10 other people with me and wait while they use the bathroom. It’s just me and Dong.

Oh yeah… and does anyone have any tips? Anything that will help make this “MVMC” first-timer’s experience more memorable?

In Genting Highland Resort

On the 31st of October 2009, my family and my girlfriend flew all the way from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur for a holiday and to visit me.

The arrived LCCT at 5.30pm and when they exit the arrival hall, I was already there, waiting for them. I do not want to sound to sissy but the moment I saw them, I was filled with joy as I have missed them so much. My brother in-law (Richard) was already in Genting Highlands Resort for a convention a couple of days before they arrived. The plan was to meet up with him the next day.

I saw my two nephews (Christian & Ziglar) 1st as I saw them walking about carrying their luggages. It was their 2nd time to Kuala Lumpur will be their 1st time to Genting Highlands, I bet they were very much excited. Still they seemed to hold all the excitement in-checked as they sat on the benches quietly waiting for their mother (my sister Edna) who was busy waiting for the rest of the luggages along with my mum and my girlfriend. The two of them are mostly running about but this time they were quiet. I knew that they were afraid of the wrath their mother would smite upon them should the misbehave.LOL..

Once all of their luggages were taken, we met, hugged and kissed. My girlfriend was so HOT when I saw her and everybody was happy to see me as I was happy to see all of them. The two boys, being boys, were shy and resisted to hug me until I glared at them. LOL.

That night we stayed in an affordable hotel and caught up with each other. My girlfriend and I were, as always, clinging to one another. Love is definitely sweet. The next day, after shopping in the morning, we left to Genting Highlands Resort at 2.30pm.

The trip to Genting Highlands Resort took about an hour and I fell asleep along the way. Yea..I know..SLEEPY HEAD.

When we arrived at the resort, the weather was very misty and cold as it was slightly raining. After checking-in to our room, we all refreshed and head off to walk around the resort. My nephews were super excited. It was great to see the level of their excitement. Along the way we met with my brother in-law Richard who took his time off from work just for awhile to meet us.

That evening, we just hung out in the indoor theme park and were going about looking for food. We were famished. My girlfriend, my mother and sister, being women..had already bought a number of items within those few hours.LOL.

The next day, we all entered the outdoor theme park and we had a blast. I had a great time with my  girlfriend as we tried all the crazy rides the theme park had to offer. We finally went back to the hotel around 10pm and everybody was tired yet satisfied. We spent time shopping again the next morning and left for Kuala Lumpur by noon.

In Kuala Lumpur, it was shopping again as usual. As usual, it never fails to astonish me how much 3 women can shop so much in a day. Nevertheless, seeing my mum, my sister and my girlfriend going on a shopping frenzy only made me smile.

On the last day, after checking-out from the hotel, I accompanied all of them to LCCT. They checked-in at the departure hall arround 4pm and everybody was sad to be leaving. My mum and girlfriend even cried.

As I saw them entering the departure hall, I felt sadness creeping up inside of me as I realized that once again I am alone. The past several days have been great and being with my family and my girlfriend, even for only a couple of days, made me feel like I was at home. Well..15 minutes later I was sulking up alone while munching on a McDonald’s Double Cheese Burger before heading back to my place in Kuala Lumpur.

Anyways, the whole trip together with my family and girlfriend was superb. It made me feel at home again after a year of living alone here in Kuala Lumpur. The only thing I regretted was that I couldn’t spend more time with them, and I also wish my brother could’ve joined us on the trip. Miss hanging out with him.

When I get ready to go to an amusment park these days, I have everything I need in a bag, with special accessories. a few snacks and lots of water.  Too bad I can’t pack what I had as a little kid.  It isn’t the same thrill as it was back then.  I used to get so hyped up on anticipation of “the best day of my life” that I dreamed would come in the morning.  I think I found the adult version of this same feeling…  It’s Sweet Melissa.

I don’t know about you, but I love it when rides at Walt Disney World break down. It just gives me this happy feeling inside, like something that isn’t supposed to happen is. Something that temporarily “ruins” the “show” does – just a little bit, just enough for me to enjoy that. It also gives you more time to enjoy the scene you are in on the ride.

These folks were stopped in the Graveyard of the Haunted Mansion (Disneyland, sorry) with the service lights on. Two minutes of Heaven for me!

Test Track Breakdown (Surprise, Surprise)
The infamous Test Track’s let’s-go-really-slow-around-all-the-curves-then-break-your-neck-by-starting-fast-again breakdown.

Some might say these videos ruin the magic. For me, they make it even more magical to see even in WDW there might be little problems, yet it amazes me how quick and efficient they are in the long run. What do you think? Which rides have broken down when you’re on them?

J.K. Rowling’s released her first book about Harry Potter to America in 1998.  Little did she know the book would become a world favorite.  11 years, seven books and 6 movies later Universal Studios in Florida has brought Potter’s wizarding world to life.

Spring of 2010 the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, should open to the public.  Another vacation opportunity for college spring breakers.  Visitors will experience a world they have only read in books or seen in theaters.

” The park will “feature immersive rides and interactive attractions, as well as experiential shops and restaurants that will enable guests to sample fare from the wizarding world’s best known establishments. Also debuting will be a state-of-the-art attraction that will bring the magic, characters, and stories of Harry Potter to life in an exciting way that guests have never before experienced,” states author J.K. Rowling on the theme parks official site.

Visitors will enter the theme park through the station archway of Hogsmeade an all-wizard village near Hogwarts.  Fans will be able to experience non-alcoholic butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks, a drink Potter and his friends often order.  Tourist’s can visit Zonko’s Joke shop to pick up a gift to take home for those who did not get to enter the magical world.

Without a wand where’s the fun in being a wizard? Ollivander’s  Wand Shop will allow visitors to experience their wand choosing them as in the books.  After purchasing a wand, if you chose to, visitors can explore the Hogwarts castle on “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” which will take guests on a tour through different rooms within the castle.

Two other roller coasters guest can experience are “Flight of the Hippogriff,” inspired by Hagrids love for mythical creatures, and “Dragon Challenge” a high-speed thrill ride inspired by the Twizard Tournament.

As a Harry Potter fan for many years and I am very excited about this news.  I even thought about changing my spring break plans, but maybe not.  How bout you though?

It’s about time that focus of Interactive Media left the Internet and the laptop, and moved to other places in the real world. Like theme parks! I’m talking about Disney Quest, the completely indoor interactive theme park located in Downtown Disney in Orlando, Florida. Five stories of interactive fun, games, and rides.

Now, DQ has been around since 1998, but shows some promise for the future of interactive theme parks. There are fully immersive virtual reality rides, mixed well with interactive “shows” (Animation Studio and Music Studio demonstrations), and good ol’ fashion arcade video games.

But lets take a look at some of the cool Virtual Reality rides.

In the Virtual Jungle Cruise you paddle your way down a virtual prehistoric river, encountering dinosaurs and other dangers. As you sit in a raft and paddle your oar with your raft-mates, you are watching your team cruise down a river on the large screen.

Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride is a virtual reality game that fully immerses the player in a virtual interactive world. Players wear VR masks and sit in front of controls and help them navigate through the world. In the virtual world you are riding on a carpet through Agrabah, helping Aladdin on his quest.

Cyber Space Mountain is by far the coolest ride at Disney Quest. With some help from Bill Nye the Science Guy you can build and ride your own roller coaster. Really! You pick each and every loop, twist, and turn, as well as the speed, music, and the virtual world you soar through. Save it on your DQ card, and when you step up to the simulator, prepare for the best roller coaster ride you’ve ever built.

Disney Quest has been around since 1998, and surprisingly little has been updated since then. The prices sure did change, but the rides and games are still predominately the same as when they opened. It leaves me wondering, why are there not more interactive theme parks like Disney Quest?

But more importantly, it leaves me wondering… what’s next?
