This song basically describes my life at the moment (apparently, it describes Jon & Kate Gosselin’s family as well, considering this song has been used to promote the last episode of the show).

So if you have been paying attention to whats been going on with Final Fantasy XIII (which happens to look like one piece of sexy), you may have heard that their theme song is actually going to be the song “My Hands” by Leona Lewis. And yes, I’m sure that there are some people out there who are very surprised.
From what I have noticed, several people have had the reaction “OMG NO WAAAAIIIII!!?!?11/111///”. And yes, I think I do understand part of this reaction. I do find it a bit awkward how the American version of FFXIII was going to have a big pop artist sing this song. However, I swear, what bothered me the most was that it didn’t even seem to be about the song itself.
It seemed people were into “auto HAET and RAEG mode about Square Enix’s choice because it was actually a western pop artist, not a jpop artist.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I really get annoyed when it’s like this. Why is it that suddenly anything popular here suddenly sucks to the rest of the internet and the world? Sometimes, it feels like people automatically hate anything labeled with the word “popular” on it. Yes, I’ll admit I am a bit hypocritical about what I’m posting right now, but lets just call this a free write, got it?
Actually, I just realized there just seems to be a lot of hate going on everywhere about music. The US hates a whole bunch of the popular music here, either because it “sucks”, or it’s popular, or that it actually DOES suck (very rare case). And then we also end up hating the Jpop and Kpop world. And this kind of dislike, I can sort of understand, because a lot of singers in Asia have very questionable skills (then again, it’s like that here in the US, but it’s a different story). But I think a lot of that hate also comes from all the raging fan girls, freaks, and people that make Japan and Korea look like a land full of losers going “OMG, KAWAII DESU NE~~~ and SARANGHAE!~~~”.

GAH, I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE I’M GOING WITH THIS POST ANYMORE.

So lets just make life easier, and make a short review on the theme song!

When I first listened to My Hands, I automatically fell in love with the song, and that love is still growing. Leona Lewis has a somewhat distinctive voice that also has that “power” to it to allow her to sing power ballads, just like the one right here. However, the one issue I only really have with this song involves the first verse. Actually, I’m kinda at a lost to this. On one side, I LOVE the raspiness of her voice and the sudden entrance of the chorus. On the other side, I also dislike those things. So I don’t know, you decide whether you like it or not. However, after the first chorus, the song definitely gets much smoother and much more consistent. I can’t over how much I love the chorus of the song. It’s very gospel-like and inspirational, especially with all those beats in the background that sound like a huge congregation clapping together. Leona gives a very strong and convincing vocal performance. The song may be a tad cliché and typical, but what isn’t nowadays? My Hands is still quite a piece of work.
I’m sure that a lot of you are thinking “This can’t be a Final Fantasy theme song!” However, I think you really need to give the song a chance. Listen to it a few more times, and pay attention to the lyrics. In a way, it sounds like they’re actually narrating Lightinings life. In addition to that, the most I listen to it, the more I can easily imagine it working with FFXIII. Besides, no one can really make a good judgment until we actually see the scene this song plays in.

Nooooo, no, that is just bad. Especially toward the end, the cheery song completely ruins the scene or messes it’s ’serious’ tone up. Now the song isn’t bad, the begining was fine with me when they were just animating the covers from the manga chapters, but when the opening switched over to Ace going to Impel Down and stuff like that…that’s when it got terrible… the song, like I said ruins the ’serious’ tone of that part of the manga and Anime. Toei Anim. has been getting complaints as well, jut shortly after the episode aired. I’m kind of hping the OP will change soon, but you really don’t have to watch it, just skip over it, but it’s not like I’m watching the ONE PIECE anime anyways, I much prefer the manga honestly.

When one thinks of Shammi Kapoor, one invariably thinks of Rafi, Hasrat Jaipuri and Shankar Jaikishan. There are many people who in fact may well think that they were together with Shammi Kapoor right from the beginning of Shammi Kapoor phenomenon.

Well, Rafi was there from the beginning when Shammi Kapoor discovered his identity. But Shankar Jaikishan and Hasrat Jaipuri were not there in that movie. In fact, there were two music directors who had stolen a march over Shankar Jaikishan when it came to giving Shammi Kapoor style music in Shammi Kapoor style movies.

The first music director was ofcourse O P Nayyar, who in his heydays was signed up to compose the music for “Tumsa Nahin dekha” (1957) with lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It was in this movie that the Shammi Kapoor phenomenon was seen for the first time. O P Nayyar would subsequently work in “Kashmir Ki Kali” too.

The next movie where Shammi Kapoor’s phenomenon was witnessed was “Dil Deke Dekho” (1959). Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist here too, and music direction was given by debutant music director Usha Khanna. Usha Khanna, who would go on to become the longest serving female music director in Bollywood movies came up with tunes that sound so typically Shammi Kapoorish even to this day. If one is not aware, one could well think that the music of this movie was by Shankar Jaikishan.

The first Shankar Jaikishan movie for Shammi Kapoor was “Ujaala” (1959) but the music of that movie was not quite the typical Shammi Kapoor music. It sounded more like Raj Kapoor kind of music. In fact, it was Manna Dey who sang for Shammi Kapoor in this movie.

So one can say that it was from “Dil Deke Dekha” (1959) that Shammi Kapoor was well on his way. And the music created by the debutant music director Usha Khanna paved the way for the kind of rollicking music that would become the calling card for Shammi Kapoor movies.

Here is the title song from “Dil Deke Dekho” (1959). Rafi sings this song with the kind of verve that he would show in all Shammi Kapoor songs.

And before I forget to mention it, this song also features the two Asha’s, viz Asha Bhonsle singing for Asha Parekh. This movie was (sort of) a debut movie for Asha Parekh too.

And just about every song from this movie went on to become a classic.

So I went to a blogging class given by one of my favorite authors, Hollis Gillespie, and Michael Alvear and it was a lot of fun. One of the suggestions was to upload a video of yourself so readers can get to know you better. So here’s the wonderfully weird Tracy and a helium balloon. Seriously, just give me a balloon and I’m entertained. I’m very simple like that.

Well, its been a while since my last blog.  As you will be able to tell from the video below I haven’t been up to much except trying to “find myself.”  

So here it is… a deeper look into the life of Leah. 

“Aap Aaye Bahaar Aayi” (1971) was a musical blockbuster where every song from the movie was extremely popular. In fact these songs remain popular to this day.

I have posted two songs from this movie already. Here is the third song. This song is in fact the theme song cum title song, as the title of the movie figures in the lyrics of this song.

Rafi is the singer and he has sung this song with gusto. He puts in amazing amount in energy and enthusiasm in the song which can be readily felt by the listener even today.

Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.

The song is picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Sadhana. These two icons of 1960s sadly fail to match the energy and enthusiasm of Rafi. Both look over the hill. I never thought that I would have to make such an observation about these two who were the icons of 1960s. But then time and tide waits for no one. This song, and this movie indeed turned out to be one of their last appearances as lead actors in Bollywood.

Of course, one does not need to watch thevideo to savour the song. Its audio is enough. And in fact that is how I , and most of the music lovers have enjoyed this song all these days. and this song is a perfect example of Rafi at his energetic best. It is a gem of a song indeed.

Long ago and far away, I was a huge devotee of the show Ally McBeal.  I don’t have a laundry list of shows that I’m loyal to, but that was one I just loved.  It had quirky, flawed characters, and an offbeat sense of humor.  It suited me beautifully.

Anyhow, one of the things that the lead character, Ally, was told, was that she needed a theme song.  (If memory serves, it was told to her by Tracey Uhlman as her therapist.)  She goes through a bit of stress choosing one, but eventually does.

I have theme songs too, but mine vary by what’s going on in my life at the time.

That said, I have decided that the song I’ve included here is my “theme song” for 2009.  It says more about the way I feel about my life, and the way it’s been going, than any other I’ve heard..  The melody and the lyrics resonated with me from the first time I heard it; especially the 3rd verse.  Because all too often, I “look in the mirror/can’t abide what I see there.”

I have a feeling that when I hear Ty sing this live, one month from yesterday, I will dissolve into tears.  I just don’t think I can avoid it.  But at least I know it’s coming, right?  =)

It aired for the first time tonight! The first episode was about Floor breaking up with her boyfriend, Erik, who actually cheats on her. But without her knowing.She wants to get her stuff back, so she goes to collect it at her ex’s house. She figures out that he has cheated on her for a while with this girl, Alyssa. Turns out the girl is a police woman and Floor ends up at the police station after a huge freak-out. (Like smashing her police car!!)

Characters are Floor Faber (Georgina Verbaan), ex Erik (Teun Kuilboer), best friend Claire (Sanne Vogel), best friend Martijn (Roeland Fernhout), sister Gina and fiancé Gerard (Hadewych Minis & Kees Boot), mother Irene (Joan Nederlof) and Menno (Daniel Boissevain).

It was a pretty funny episode. I can relate to Floor in some kind of way. I am not neurotic though! Anne de Clercq is directing and I have seen more of her work. She is great. I am looking forward to the next episode! Plus 10 for the music they used

I haven’t revealed the existence of a SEDUCED BY SHADOWS theme song before now since I’ve been holding out for a mastered copy.  I’m hoping to have an MP3 download next spring before the release of FORGED OF SHADOWS.  Meanwhile, the song has been getting regular live play in the Portland area, and here’s the first recorded clip, captured at a show in Zabrze, Poland.
