“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” ~ Frederick Keonig (1774 – 1833)

Santosha- Contentment- What does it mean to find contentment in the present? We can start with the body> Can drop all prejudices against your body and just love exactly how it is right now? Hug in- accepting and appreciating the present – contentment naturally arises when we recognize what we already have.

Niyamas- actions and attitudes we can cultivate to help us realize more connectedness. Saucha- Rigid

Niyamas- actions and attitudes we can cultivate to help us realize more connectedness. Saucha- Rigidly interpreted as “purity”- it can become a strict code of things to avoid, the concept of purity implies a dichotomy- that world is a profane place. A more liberal interpretation of saucha could be to interpret it as clarity rather than purity. In Anusara we embrace a tantric philosophy that emphasizes the intrinsic goodness in each of us- at our heart each of us is already pure. So then what does this niyama mean for us? In tantra, individuals still have agency, and we can interact with the world in more or less skilful ways- Embracing saucha- clarity in thought, word and deed, can interact with the world in a more skilful way.

The first thing we need to get clear with in our practice of yoga and life is our intention- what do we want to manifest? What’s our bigger purpose for this practice? The word yoga means union in sanskrit. For me yoga, it is a practice that helps us unite our individual selves with something bigger, but not separate from ourselves. This can be simple as recognizing the goodness that lies within each of us. My broader intention each time a practice is to remember and celebrate that connectedness. Maybe that’s not something that feels true for you right now, so take some time to get clear with yourself- in one clear phrase, sum up what your bigger intention is. Let yourself brighten with intention.

In Tadasana – be really clear about the foundation in the poses. Ask: Why does it matter how we place our hands and feet? Physical reasons, and then also the bigger picture. In lining up our physical body, we show our dedication to aligning with a bigger purpose and broader vision for our lives.

This shot was taken while riding down the highway at 80 mph.

While on a 12-hour round-trip to Tennessee, I was understandably bored. Of course I took my camera though. This shot is one my favorite from the day and was taken while riding down the road at 80 mph through a dirty car window. It may not be the most crisp or perfectly composed photograph, but it sure makes me smile. Sometimes photography ideas seem crazy, but I have learned to take risks. After all, with digital, I have an unlimited amount chances.

When you first install Windows 7, it asks for your language, time and currency. Based on your responses, it installs a set of wallpapers and themes.

If you choose English (UK) for your time and currency format, for example, the available desktop backgrounds and themes will include a UK section with scenery from familiar locations around the country.

Hidden, though, are background scenery and themes from other English-speaking countries – Australia, Canada, the US and South Africa. Normally, you can’t access those backgrounds or themes, but there is a simple way you can install and use them:

In the search box in the Start menu, type C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT and press Enter. (Note: If Windows 7 is installed in a drive other than C:, use that letter instead.)

Windows Explorer will launch and show you a list of subfolders under C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT: MCT-AU, MCT-CA, MCT-GB, MCT-US, and MCT-ZA. Each subfolder has wallpapers for a specific country: AU for Australia, CA for Canada, GB for Great Britain, US for the United States, and ZA for South Africa.

For any of the countries whose wallpaper and themes you want to use, go into its Theme folder, for example, C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT\MCT-ZA\Theme. Double-click the theme you see there (for example ZA).

That will install a shortcut to the theme and wallpapers in the Personalisation section of Control Panel.

You can now use them as you would any other theme or background, by right-clicking the desktop, choosing Personalise, and choosing a background or theme. They will be listed in their own section.

“Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” – Mahatma Gandhi

I came across this well known quote just as I was contemplating going to graduate school. At the time I felt enthused and empowered by the subject matter that I hoped to study, yet was wrestling of this thing of… “well, when then, is my life really going to start?” I saw the quote etched on a stone in a little store in a tiny mountain town (Idylwild, CA). The quote resonated in my mind, and reminded me that learning isn’t a one time thing or a one stop shop. It’s a continual process whether it be graduate school, yoga practice, or being a loving husband/wife/mother/daughter/son, etc. In realizing this (a duh/aha moment), I asked myself…”Is this what I’m willing to devote my life to… to be poor for, for the next 10 years?” The answer in my head was simple and affirmative. While school can be a wonderfully worthwhile endeavor, this quote isn’t about school. For me, it’s about living in the moment, yet enjoying the process. Keeping goals in mind, but acknowledging that the evolution and development that takes place is equally, if not more, valuable. (These end goals we have in mind are simply societal infrastructure… and there will be infinitely more to attain once we get there)…. Letting go of thoughts that I’m too old, too set in my ways to learn something new. And to remember, no matter what degrees we’ve attained or accomplishments we’ve made, that there is so much knowledge and information out there…. to have the humility of being a lifelong student.

I’m also reminded of the last line of a poem that I love and found via 2000 Dollar Wedding; the poem is called The Summer Day by Mary Oliver and it ends like this:

Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Well, learn some things, I will….

They are Charamel and Silvermel created by Kurt Freudenthal. I discovered them thanks to Chewie. So, what I like about them is:

Works with newer versions of Mozilla firefox and thunderbird (Including version 3 beta 4)

It’s got really nice colours and a nice layout.

It works fine under linux and Mac OS X. In the latter it lets you have small icons in the bookmark bar, whereas the default theme does not allow you to do that. See image to see what I mean.

You’ve got two different colours to choose from.

So go and buy the guy a beer so he can work more on them .

Scents play a crucial role in one’s life. Think about how many ways exist. Certain scents provide warning in danger, some scents provide comfort, while others become connected to life experiences. Overall, both good and bad scents contribute to our sense of smell, making them an important part of one’s lives. This article explores the role scent plays at a wedding.

Take for instance, weddings, often one of the most special day’s in a person’s life. A wedding contains a mix of scents, from the bride’s bouquet to banquet food. Guests wear various perfumes and colognes as part of their fancy outfits. Candles burn in front of a church and on banquet tables. Overall, the mix of scents is unique at a wedding. Because of the age old emphasis on beauty, color, and scent at a wedding, more and more brides are also choosing a scent as a theme for their wedding. Blending a scent with a color creates a memory association for everyone in attendance. More about this can be found at the website, www.scentedwedding.com.

Some samples of wedding scent and color combos include the following:
Bright red with scent of apples
Dark red with scent of cinnamon
Green with scent of pine
Blue with ocean scents
Plum with blackberry scent
Pink with strawberry scent
Violet with lilac scent
Lavender with lavender scent
White with softly scented vanilla

Themed wedding scents are mixed into a variety of items, including favors sent home with guests that lay out on banquet tables. These take the form of candle tins, potpourri, flowers, and a mini sachets filled with aroma beads. Guests can take the item home, allowing them to reconnect with that special day each time they smell the wedding favor.

Adjusting all the fonts to size 8 under System->Preferences->Appearances only slightly reduces the problem. The icon still remain rather big, to reduce the icon size some text editing is in order. Open the Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type the following:

sudo gedit ~/.gtkrc-2.0

This will open a text editor, then past the following into the document:

gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=16,16:panel=16,16:gtk-menu=16,16:gtk-large-toolbar=16,16:gtk-small-toolbar=16,16:gtk-button=16,16"

Save and exit.

Please note that these settings will only work with gtk-2.0 themes that doesn’t specify these values on their own, otherwise nothing will happen.

How to ensure your themes doesn’t specify these settings?

All default themes (those that comes from the distro installation) are stored in the following location ‘/usr/share/themes’, simply navigate to the location and find the theme your using, then view the content of the gtkrc file. in my case since I’m using the default theme named Human the location would be; ‘/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc’.

Locate the line starting with ‘gtk-icon-sizes’. If nothing is found or specified the above settings will work, just restart to apply the changes. Otherwise continue the reading.

Instead of removing the line a better way is the copy the theme to your on theme directory located in ‘~/.themes’. To create a copy of theme simply type the following in the Terminal:

cp -R /usr/share/themes/<theme_name> ~/.themes/<new_theme_name>

<theme_name> being the name of the theme to clone, <new_theme_name> being the name for the new theme (note the <new_theme_name> can’t be the same name as the original one). The next step is to edit the theme file, type the following line in the Terminal:

sudo gedit ~/.themes/<new_theme_name>/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

locate the line starting with ‘gtk-icon-sizes’ and replace it with the following: (Note; if in doubt just comment out the line instead of replacing it, by placing ‘#’ in front of the line.)

gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=16,16:panel=16,16:gtk-menu=16,16:gtk-large-toolbar=16,16:gtk-small-toolbar=16,16:gtk-button=16,16"

The final step of text editing is to adjust the content of the index.theme file located in the ‘~/.themes/<new_theme_name>/index.theme’

sudo gedit ~/.themes/<new_theme_name>/index.theme

In this file their are three lines to change (note my theme is based on Human, so the content can vary from the one you might have). Replace the all the lines contain <new_theme_name> with the name you chose for the theme.

[Desktop Entry]
Type=X-GNOME-Metatheme
Name=<new_theme_name>
Comment=Ubuntu default theme
Comment[fr]=Thème par défaut d'Ubuntu
Comment[pt_BR]=Tema padrão do Ubuntu
Encoding=UTF-8

[X-GNOME-Metatheme]
GtkTheme=<new_theme_name>
IconTheme=Humanity
MetacityTheme=<new_theme_name>
CursorTheme=Human

The final step is to apply the new theme this is done by opening the System->Preferences->Appearance and selecting the theme you just created. The changes here will only affect toolbars that respect gtk like gedit. Changing the size of the panel in gnome (the located in the top and bottom of the screen) more customization is required a solution might be found in the See also section, but I’ve haven’t tested them yet.

After downloading and installing Windows 7 themes from multiple Websites, I thought of writing a post on how to create your own Windows 7 theme. Before I started to write, I thought why not have a look at what others have written about creating a customized Windows 7 theme. I came across a post on Sevenforums that explains this concept very well.

This particular Website had a detailed procedure with the screen shots. So, I thought why not simply redirect the users to this particular Website, and not repeat the effort on this front. So, all you folks, who want to learn creating Windows 7 themes, must visit this Website and read this post: How to create Windows 7 themes.

An alternate Website that also does an extremely great job in this teaching you on creating Windows 7 themes is Windows7news. Read their article on this topic: How To Create Custom Windows 7 Themes

I don’t know too much about Chrissy Murderbot (who’s a DJ/producer from Chi), but what I do know about him is that he is killing the mixtape game for me right now. His site my year of mixtapes, is pretty much a musical gold mine. I really really love when things are done in themes (I know, I’m a nerd), and that’s exactly what he does for each new mixtape.

Some of my personal favorites are his: Tin Pan Tape, Sleaze Tape, Bobby Orlando, 1990s Vocal House Side A, 1991 UK Rave Tunes, Philly Disco, ’90s Dance Pop (There’s a previous post about this one here), & The Year in Happy Hardcore–1994 mixatpes.
