I think that’s “on track” plus a bit. Alas, it doesn’t compete with Ali’s 200+ words and 2-3 word sentences at 18 months. We’re still proud of him.

Think Dorothea and Theodosia are a bit much for girls? Here’s a ever more serious, bespectacl

Think Dorothea and Theodosia are a bit much for girls? Here’s a ever more serious, bespectacled choice for son.

Thanks to Hanalise for suggesting Theophilus as Name of the Day.

No one would blink if you named your son Theodore. At #295 in 2008, he’s long since surrendered his previous Top 100 status, but still sounds at home with current favorites like Alexander and Nathaniel.

Theophilus would raise some eyebrows. He’s a style cousin to Atticus – a name oft-cited as fashion-forward, but still exceedingly rare.

You’ll find him in the history books as the Greek Theophilos as well as the Latin Theophilus. The meaning is pretty straightforward. Theos means god; philos means friend. In the Bible, Luke addresses his Gospel, as well as the Acts of the Apostles, to Theophilus. There’s much scholarly debate if that’s the name of an actual person, or simply an appropriate honorific used to address anyone who shared Luke’s devotion.

In either case, men named Theophilus lived at the time Luke was writing:

A High Priest of the Temple in Jerusalem wore the name. He’s one possible recipient of Luke’s writings;

A historian and geographer quoted by Plutarch and Ptolemy was Theophilus;

Theophilos briefly ruled Paropamisadae, an ancient kingdom centered around modern-day Kabul;

There’s also a seventh century Greek medical writer;

In the ninth century, Theophilus was a Byzantine emperor. 100 years later, the name was worn by a Byzantine general.

That’s without considering the many religious figures from second century right through the eighteenth.

He never truly faded away. Theophilus Howard was a sixteenth century Earl of Suffolk.

The name came right across the ocean with the earliest English settlers in the New World. The first governor of the New Haven Colony in Connecticut was Theophilus Eaton. One of his daughters handed the name down to her son, but he was nicknamed Ellis.

American history also gives us:

A solider in the French and Indian War, Theophilus Weeks;

In the late eighteenth century, Theophilus Bradbury was a US Representative to Congress from Massachusetts;

Theophilus Dortch was a North Carolina politician, serving in the Confederate Congress during the Civil War;

Theophilus Holmes was a Confederate General.

History aside, Theophilus never appeared in the US Top 1000. He hovered just outside during the late 1800s.

By the time Thornton Wilder published his 1973 novel Theophilus North, the name was an aged antique. Today, the most prominent Theophilos is probably Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, the leader of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem. But he was born Ilias Giannopoulos.

Trends in baby names come and go, but it is hard to imagine Theophilus rising to the top of the popularity charts anytime soon. And yet, he’s probably reasonably wearable by a modern child. Theo is an easy, accessible nickname, and shares much in common with fashionable Leo. And ancient names can sound surprisingly modern – Marcus, Maximus, Julius and Titus are all in the US Top 500 today.

But still, tread cautiously. Theophilus is a lot of name!

Mbt shoes uk Mbt Mbt shoe Injury was added to insult yesterday as a testing week for Arsène Wenge

Mbt shoes uk Mbt Mbt shoe

Injury was added to insult yesterday as a testing week for Arsène Wenger was made worse by the news that Theo Walcott has picked up a hamstring injury and will miss the Barclays Premier League game against Stoke City tomorrow.

Arsenal described the 20-year-old’s latest injury as “short term”, but Walcott is yet to complete a match this season after shoulder and knee problems and has made only five appearances, the most recent in the 3-0 defeat by Chelsea on Sunday. That was followed by a Carling Cup exit to Manchester City by the same scoreline on Wednesday, after which Wenger offended Mark Hughes, his City counterpart, by failing to shake hands.

Robin van Persie will be absent for five months, but Wenger said the forward’s surgery on his ankle injury was successful. “I have not talked to Robin yet but the news I got from the surgery was it went very, very well,” he said. “There was a lot of disturbance on our side recently [about his injury] but the surgery went well.” Wenger had criticised the Dutch FA for their handling of the injury.

There was also a positive report about Kieran Gibbs, who is recovering from a foot operation. “Kieran is doing very well,” Wenger said. Bacary Sagna is available again after an ankle problem but the overall picture for the Stoke game is bleak, with Gaël Clichy, Abou Diaby and Nicklas Bendtner injured and Alexandre Song suspended.

Andrey Arshavin spoke frankly when highlighting Arsenal’s deficiencies yesterday. “Since Van Persie’s injury we’ve only scored two goals in three matches [before Wednesday’s game],” the Russia forward said. “Nobody is capable of keeping the ball. Chelsea have an advantage over us, above all at dead balls, where we lack very tall players. Arsène’s been at the club for 13 years, he knows the problem better than anyone.”

As they seek to cover the loss of Van Persie, Arsenal have been linked with a bid for Marouane Chamakh, the Bordeaux striker, in January, but Laurent Blanc, the French club’s manager, said yesterday that Chamakh will not move next month. “He’s at the end of his contract, so in January he could sign elsewhere [for next season], but from January 1 to June 30, he will be at Bordeaux, and that’s the way it is,” Blanc said.

Wenger’s reaction to defeat at the City of Manchester Stadium by running down the tunnel rather than shaking hands with Hughes, has been criticised by Gary Megson, the Bolton Wanderers manager.

“In my view, you can do whatever you want, say whatever you like during the game, but after the game you should shake hands, even if you don’t particularly mean it,” he said. “You should shake hands because people are watching and will draw their own conclusions if you don’t. I don’t think that is particularly good on Arsène’s part and I think he has done it before.”

Tony Pulis, the Stoke manager, believes every manager has a responsibility as a role model to finish a game with a handshake. “Just for football’s sake, for the full spectrum of the game, through the lower leagues and down into Sunday football, that sign of respect goes all the way down,” Pulis said. “We have a responsibility to football. People are so influenced by the top people.”

UCF’s Center for Emerging Media in Downtown Orlando celebrated the addition of three new programs, increasing student options and solidifying key concepts: partnership, collaboration and replication.

About 12,500 square feet of remodeled space is now dedicated to UCF’s MFA in Studio Art & the Computer; Flying Horse Editions, UCF’s non-profit fine arts press; and Citylab-Orlando, a University of Florida graduate-level architecture program.

These programs join several other high-profile programs at the center: The Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy, UCF’s graduate video-gaming school; Vicon Entertainment’s House of Moves, one of the largest motion-capture studios on the East Coast; and the soundstage and editing suites of Studio 500.

“The Center for Emerging Media’s mission is to expand programs, access and opportunities for upper-level undergraduate and graduate emerging media students in Orlando, while furthering the city’s vision for a creative village that will connect professionals with students to help them land high-paying jobs upon graduation," said Chad Binette of UCF News & Information.

Rogier van Etten, a software engineer at 360Ed and 2007 graduate of FIEA, said they are instrumental in securing employer interviews for students. 360Ed focuses on games with high educational content.

"The best thing you get from FIEA is teamwork: how to be an effective collaborator; how to be an effective communicator; how to be a valuable member of a team," said van Etten. "The skills you can get other places — it’s the team aspect that really stands out."

"We want to replicate what happens in the industry. Collaboration between students, departments and the community is the idea behind the entire building," said FIEA’s communications and admissions director, Todd Deery.

Professors encouraged Brittany Metz, a second-year MFA studio art & the computer graduate student, to get out of her box and focus on different mediums. Metz said she joined the program because the focus is concentrated on your own artwork, and the digital media aspect allowed flexibility and broad-range artistic expression.

"I’m drawn to whimsical, childlike, nostalgic things,” Metz said, “things I can create a story out of or that recall the past.

Adding to the community learning and work experience environment, Flying Horse Editions brings in visiting artists who provide students with critiques and real-world experience lectures, said director Theo Lotz.

Beginning fall 2010, a creative partnership with Valencia Community College and the University of Florida will allow students to obtain a bachelor of design in architecture degree.

Michael Kuenstle, associate professor at the UF school of architecture, said the symbiotic relationship benefits students, faculty and community.

"Architecture is an urban endeavor. Students will gain a professional degree, immersed in the subject they are studying, while still living in Orlando, and we are able to teach in an urban environment, using the city as a library and teaching tool," Kuenstle said.

According to the UCF Web site, through a 2+2+2 program, students earn an associate’s degree through Valencia, a bachelor’s degree at UCF and a master’s at UF. The program aims at preparing students for careers in professional architecture, construction management and industrial design.

In the meantime, UCF undergraduate students and graduate students will be able to take elective courses at Citylab-Orlando and collaborate with top design, construction and planning faculty members from UF, said Binette.

Currently, Citylab-Orlando is working on a local urban redesign project to address different uses for future public space beneath Interstate 4 in Downtown Orlando.

This is my favorite episode of the Cosby Show!

Theo buys a $95 designer shirt, which he plans to wear on a date. Cliff insists that the shirt is way to expensive and makes Theo return it. Denise offers to make him an identical version of the shirt for a third of the price (in reality Theo would have been black listed off the streets for wearing a fake shirt). One thing I found really hard to believe was that Cliff Huxtable was a obstetrician and his wife Claire was an attorney, I’d assume they were well off. They could’ve bought 8 Gordon Gartrell shirts!

Check out the small clip of this episode, ENJOY!

“Theology” might be defined as the study of the true nature of God. It is a word which is derived from the ancient Greek word for “God:” “Theo;” and from the ancient Greek word “logos,” meaning a “discourse” or “systematic discussion of.” Theology, as practiced by the wisdom of man, can be very dry – boring even.

Therefore, theology must never be divorced from our greatest source of information about God: the Bible. This source is neither boring nor dry. In fact, it is living, powerful, fear-inspiring, and love-producing. The Bible contains the very Words of the living God, including His laws, principles, and His righteous dealings with sinful man over the centuries (His judgments.) (Psalm 19:9)

How people treat the Bible is a good indicator of how they feel about its Author. Are you willing to forsake opportunities to gain personal wealth in order to spend time studying God’s Word? Do you desire to be instructed in revealed righteousness more than you desire your favorite foods? Money and food may provide sustenance (temporary life), but the judgments of the Lord point toward Christ Jesus, the Provider of eternal life.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Psalm 19:10

Cesc has said ‘why not’ to finishing his career at the Arsenal, good for you Cesc, that’s the way to deal with the Barca crap, that should shut them up for a few weeks, yeah right!

Andre Arshavin says Wenger should spend big in the January window and if it upsets a few youngsters, then that’s fair, if we want to win the league, we need some world class players, Andre, I can’t disagree with that my friend. Ha, ha, I bet he gets dropped for saying that!

Onto tonight, the European game where we can qualify for the next stage, the game where I expect to see a few experiments in team selection for the chav game this weekend, tonight’s selection will be interesting.

Yes I know he wants to give Vela a run, and that I applaud, but we have a lot of young forwards that get injured a lot, what we need is a few options up front that don’t get injured so often. We’ve had Bendtner, Theo, Robin, Vela, Eduardo and even Arshavin injured this season, so I don’t think we would have selection issues, do you?

All we need is a point tonight, all three and we go forward as winners of the group, I think that also helps with our ranking points, so all to play for, I just hope we don’t treat this as an exhibition game, I hope we can better the spuds score and send out a message, so I’m going to break with tradition and predict a 10-1 result, I’ll give them one because it wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t concede.

I have a feeling he may give Eastmond an airing tonight, either that or we’ll see Denilson back and he’ll rest Song so he’ll be fit for the chavs on Sunday.

Talking of the spuds, I always thought we should have had a look at Defoe when he was at West Ham, bit of a gamble, but he is a gooner, but not to have had a sniff when he was leaving Portsmouth was a little careless, he does know where the goal is doesn’t he?

We also need to show we can score goals with a short forward line and given the shit the players got from Saturday’s debacle, I expect them to come out the blocks on fire.

Here’s my team for tonight.

Mannone

Eboue, Senderos, Vermaelen, Gibbs

Rosicky Denilson/Eastmond, Cesc

Walcott, Arshavin, Vela

With Eduardo, Nasri and Ramsey making up the bench.

Two great things came out of yesterday, one was Cesc told Barca very politely to fuck off, and Wenger told the World cup hopefuls to remember who pays them, good advice and further proof if you needed it that Wenger does indeed read Le Grove.

Have a great day Grovers, tonight we show the world that we really are true contenders.

Dorothy is a spunky Kansas farm girl, complete with ruby slippers and a little dog, too. Flip the elements of her name, and she’s a Byzantine monarch – and a saint.

Thanks to Rachel for suggesting Theodosia as Name of the Day.

If you’re in your 30s, your first exposure to Theodosia might have 1988’s For Keeps. Molly Ringwald played Darcy, a high school senior who finds herself with child and spends nine months contemplating her future and very little time considering baby names.

Darcy slumps into a deep depression in the maternity award and awakens to discover that her boyfriend Stan plucked the name Theodosia off his family tree:

Darcy: How could you name our baby Theodosia?
Stan: We needed a name for a the birth certificate …
Darcy: It sounds like a Greek fishing boat, or a crater on the moon or something!

Molly’s fishing boat/astronomical objections aside, Theodosia has plenty of history, stretching back to the Byzantine Empire:

Saint Theodosia was an eighth-century Constantinople nun. When the emperor ordered an icon removed, she led a mob to intervene. The officer dispatched to de-icon was killed – and Theodosia executed in return;

An aristocratic Theodosia married Byzantine Emperor Leo V in the early 800s.

You’ll find plenty of men named Theodosius or Theodosios, too – it translates roughly to “giving to God.”

Theodosia pops up sparingly over the centuries. 1638 marked the Dublin debut of James Shirley’s comedy The Royal Master. His Theodosia was sister to the king, torn between two suitors.

From the eighteenth century, there’s:

The wealthy Theodosia Hawkins-Magill, future Countess of Clanwilliam. She may have been named after her Aunt Theodosia;

Anne Steele wrote hymns and devotional poems under the pen name Theodosia;

US Vice President Aaron Burr married a Theodosia; the couple passed it on to their daughter. She answered to Theo. After Mrs. Burr’s death, Theo became dad’s official hostess and remained loyal during Burr’s trial for treason (he was acquitted). She was among the passengers presumed lost in an 1812 shipwreck. In 1941, Anya Seton authored My Theodosia – a work of historical fiction based on her life – heavy on the fiction.

The 20th century gives us Theodosia Goodman, better known as Theda Barra. From humble beginnings in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was re-invented as one of Hollywood’s first sex symbols. She also kick-started the modern PR machine – her invented background included an Egyptian childhood and a career on the Paris stage. Theda made more than 40 films in the 1910s and 20s, but most were destroyed in a fire. Her masterpiece – 1915’s A Fool There Was – survives, as does the film’s legacy. It made William Fox so much money that he founded the studio that remains today – 20th Century Fox.

Thea, Tea and even Teddie could all be nicknames should you choose Theodosia for a daughter. But she’s not appeared in the US Top 1000 since the 19th century and feels unwieldy even amongst the Isabellas and Alexandras so common today. The related – and equally antique – Theodora and Dorothea feel more likely to wear well today.

Έχοντας επιβιώσει το κύμα αρρώστειας που έπεσε τώρα τελευτάια στο σχολείο και γενικά στην πόλη, έπεσα θύμα της απο το ίδιο το περιβάλλον μου, και πιο συγκεκριμένα, τον πατέρα μου! Τι σκατά!;
