Today was a hard day, and a joyous day. My friend got married, I love weddings because it’s a celebration of love and this couple is definitely in love. Not only because they remained pure until their wedding day but you could see it in their appreciation of one another and how they encouraged and challenged one another. It was a hard day because love can be hard sometimes especially when you are not expecting it to happen, sometimes at the wrong time. For me it’s complicated, but I know what I want, and I am open to love for the first time in a long time. I can see myself in love and doing all those things that I despised seeing couples do lol. OK call me a hater but I know where it stems from

Give your family one incredible weekend to discover all the things to do in Boston. The kids will have a blast and parents will be delighted to know that treats and discounts are spread all throughout the city for children under twelve.

Looking for the best thing to do to get a nice Boston introduction? Allow the very interesting Boston Duck Tour give you the kind of welcome you want and need. Let the entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide give you backgrounds on Boston’s history, culture, tradition, influential people and the like. More importantly, the guide will run you through the city’s top attractions. Discover more of Boston on foot and via public transportation. Walking is preferred by most people in Boston than driving a private or rented vehicle. Get each member of your family a Visitor’s Pass, which will give you unlimited access to the T and the trolley.

Boston museums and other educational attractions also offer lower rates for children. A visit to the New England Aquarium is one of the most popular things to do in Boston among both local kids and visitors alike. At the Aquarium, expect your kids to giggle and call out for Nemo as you pass by the pool of clown fish or gasp in awe as they see the gigantic and big-tooth white sharks.

The months of April through October give families an amazing thing to do in Boston: whale watching! Join the cruise to the Stellwagen Bank where pods of humpbacks, finbacks and minkes make themselves seen.

Sports and recreational activities are great things to do for quality family bonding time in Boston. Take the kids to the Boston Common’s Frog Pond for an afternoon of ice skating free of charge. While dad takes the boys to catch a home game of the Boston Red Sox, mom and sisters can go to Faneuil Hall where they can find great finds from amazing shops that are all spread out in an incredibly sophisticated atmosphere.

Add any of the many festivals as one of the things you should do in your Boston itinerary. One way to get to know a new city is to join its residents in celebrating a very anticipated event. Or, if you want to keep things on a low profile, quiet and simple, enjoy a smaller crowd (your family, that is) in an afternoon at the much-famed Emerald Necklace. Pick from the series of parks in the Necklace and allow your kids to roam and run around or play frisbee while you and your spouse get some down time watching boats passing by the Charles River.

Having a taste of Boston’s food is one thing you should not miss to do in Boston. Located right in the heart of the Back Bay, Skipjack will serve your family only the freshest seafood. Steaks and other kid-friendly meals are, of course, also available. Along with the comforts of Intercontinental Boston to take care of your accommodation needs, you realize that all these things to do in Boston promise an absolutely fun family trip!

All the fun things to do in New York City make it a fantastic vacation destination for families during the summer. NYC has everything parents with kids of varying ages are looking for.

Start your vacation with an overview of New York City. Head off to the Top of the Rock’s Observation Deck, located at the 70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Center, to have a 360-degree look of the splendor of New York City. Or you can bring the family to the Empire State Building. The NY Skyride, in particular, is a thrill for the kids as it gives a virtual tour of New York City in 3D.

The many museums in New York City provide a great learning experience through fun activities for the kids. If you are looking for a thing to do to tickle the minds of the youngest members of your family in New York City, take them to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, which features Dora the Explorer and other characters your children are fond of. Next, join the Ground Zero Museum Workshop Tour where you can learn about heroic eyewitness stories and personal accounts of people who participated in the Recovery through the exhibits displayed. This will be a very interesting and educational experience for older kids and teenagers.

Seeing the Statue of Liberty up close is one thing visitors always include in their New York City itinerary. There are different tours and cruises such as the Lady Liberty Helicopter Flight and Liberty Cruise that can give you a closer look at the very famous American icon.

Sports fanatics find themselves with an interesting thing to do in New York City in the summer. Share the energy and excitement of New Yorkers at Rucker Park in Harlem as professional athletes play their respective sports in a court that is celebrated every year! Or you can always catch a ball game in the court or in a ball park like Yankee Stadium.

Have an afternoon stroll and picnic with your family for some down time in Central Park for free! Parents can sit and relax at Central Park while watching their children run around and skate for free. To make the most of your Central Park stop, check out the expanse of Central Park Zoo with all its polar bears, penguins, monkeys, lions, zebras and a lot of other animals.

New York City houses a lot of hotels for your lodging needs. Get ready to be treated like royalty at The New York Palace, which is conveniently located within walking distance from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and the high-end shops in New York City.

Have an alone time with your spouse with an intimate romantic dinner at the View Restaurant. Located atop the hotel, the View Restaurant serves exquisite cuisine with an incredible view of the entire city giving you an amazing outdoor dining experience perfect for the summer. Catching a musical or a play in Broadway is one more thing to do with your spouse in New York City that you both should experience.

Fun and excitement for the kids, alone time for the parents. The things to do in New York City will surely make your family summer vacation a blast!

This is an incredibly late post, and I’ve been busy these past couple of days due to the surge of painters who patiently covered, sprayed and brushed the house for 10 days. As a result, my room is in utter disarray because I had to haul everything out and put them back in order. It’s a little tedious to handpick each and every material to place them back in the room, but it’s a blessing in disguise because it’s a time to let go of outdated material things and reexamine one’s self and new interests. I know it’s no excuse to be late, so I’ll try to do better next time and compensate by attempting to make this a longer and more worthwhile post.

So, in light of my hectic schedule and whirlwind transformation, I decided to write about yoga. What better way to calm me down and think introspectively, than by writing about the practice..

Yoga as an individual sport
The last post examined tennis as an individual sport, and in line with this thought is the concept that yoga is also an individual endeavor. Every session is not just a routine exercise, but your very own practice. You don’t need to be a yoga instructor to have yoga as a practice– each individual is the master of his or her own yoga experience. The instructor is not superior to anyone in the room; she’s a guide to everyone– to encourage the individual to challenge the body as one eases his way into each pose– not to show off her perfect positions. In a yoga class, everyone does the poses together, but each individual has his or her own mat, and within the space of the room, one’s own mat is the only thing that matters. By way of a mat, you plot a space inside the studio that is entirely your own for an hour. No one is going to invade this space; this is your territory. You have complete control of that area, and having it enables you to focus your thoughts on your meditation and actions. My instructor always reminds us at the beginning of every session that there are we are not sharing in the space of the studio to judge each other according our abilities to perform the poses. There is no competition, just striving towards our personal best, appropriately. We are there to learn and grow into our own practices. If our body tells us that it hurts to do a certain movement, we step back and modify the pose to avoid putting too much pressure on the pain. If our body tells us on a given day that it has the energy to master the practice, we strive to do all the poses to the best of our abilities. Everyone is at a different level. It is liberating to know that prejudice is thrown out the window, that we all participate in a group of independence and compassion instead of malicious competition.

Some common yoga positions:
Plank
Chattaranga
Sun salutation
Cobra
Upward dog
Downward dog
Child’s pose
Cat pose
Tree pose
Warrior one
Warrior Two
Pigeon pose (my favorite)
Rock pose
Triangle
Pyramid
Crescent pose

Yoga as a spiritual exercise
As I mentioned, your mat is your safe place of practice. It is both a place of comfort, as it is a place of trial. You attempt each pose, and there are days when you can skillfully flow through them, and then there are some when you just aren’t as focused and you flinch and fall to the side. After going through a series of poses, the stretch that comes at the end of the hour is the best feeling in the world. As you hold your stretches and breathe deeply, you relieve tense muscles. You are in deep silence with everyone in the room, and ironically, this non-communication, this silence, connects you to everyone. Through coordination, you all share in this studio your goals to develop and execute each pose effortlessly. At each stretch, you realize the wonders that the body can do– that it can be challenged, that it can be taught how to be flexible. As you rock side-to-side in a child’s pose or a little boat pose, you feel that the world is open as you roll the stress out. It feels good because you know your body is able, and you can get to wherever you want to be.

Yoga as inspiration
Yoga classes are usually filled with women, perhaps because men are drawn more into more rapid and physically demanding exercise like sports or running. It the room, it is always slow and quiet, with only the soft beats of world music playing and calm voice of the instructor reverberating across the room. It brings us all in the moment to feel our presence in the mat, to think about ourselves and our relationship with our bodies. In yoga, om represents the sound of everything and the sound of nothing. In silence, if you listen hard enough you can hear the hum of stillness, and this that surrounds you is the om. Amid the noise, if you take all the sounds together, it all boils down to the sound of om, the sound of the universe. Just as when you mix all the colors in the spectrum, the resulting color is white. Om is white translated in sound.

I love yoga because of three reasons that cover physical, mental, and spiritual aspects within me. It helps tone my body and teaches me that the body is a beautiful thing, that it has this incredible strength and energy that can be harnessed in amazing, impactful ways. Even if there are times when I’m not satisfied with my body, I’m thankful that I’m blessed with this body I have because it is a vehicle that connects me to others through the practice of yoga, and a temple that helps me accomplish my tasks. Yoga teaches me to focus, to clear the clutter even just for a moment, and think only about the current pose I’m in. Without this focus, your breathing will change and the poses are more difficult. Yoga also teaches me to respect others as I observe how they grow into their poses and develop their bodies for their own purpose. Most importantly, yoga enables me to be calm and introspective, to be content and happy.

I know I’m strong (mental) because my body is strong (physical) because I believe I’m strong (spiritual).

“Gayby” is yet another portmanteau word (one that combines two words into one) of the words “gay” and “baby” and refers to the little tykes that are adopted or conceived by a gay, lesbian or LGBT couple.

I can barely say, what has gone through my heart and mind today. It feels like an entire week and yet only a day. I went looking around at different things about people who are contacted by ET’s. I sent my last video to someone, that I never wanted to lose, but never really gained to begin with.

And I tried very hard to stay up. But when someone pushes you out, then, time to flee.

What’s odd, is, I now feel lighter. Like a huge burden has just been lifted from me. Just weighted me down.

I had seen a vision of letting two people go. I imagined that I let these two birds go. Except one just flew in circles and the other was so weighted that it couldn’t fly.

Little did I realize till just now actually, that those birds were me. I literally did not know what to do. But now that I made my choice for the last time, I understand what the birds were saying to me. How I spent 1 and a half years going in circles with these people and in the end, I was just completely weighted down. Couldn’t fly.

I’m a balloon now.

I was first introduced to Jan Slepian and Ann Seidler’s The Hungry Thing at a workshop on phonemic/phonological awareness (learn more about that here). So, obviously, this book and activity are great for building those critical prereading skills. In this story, the Hungry Thing shows up in a town, asking for food. The people can’t figure out what he wants. When he requests “shmancakes” they each have a different idea about what “shmancakes” actually are. One boy makes sense of it all, reminding them that “shmancakes” sound like “pancakes”. So they give the Hungry Thing some and he eats them all up! This continues on to include “feetloaf” and “gollipops”, “boop with a smacker” and “tickles”. As I read this story, I always pause a bit, allowing the children to chime in with the appropriate rhyming word.

Afterward, I introduce my Hungry Thing puppet. Mine is just a fuzzy, monster-like puppet. You could make your own out of fabric or a paper bag, improvise with one you have, or create a cardboard picture with the mouth cut out, similar to what I did in the dinosaur activity here. It doesn’t matter which one you use, the Thing is so hungry! Can the children help feed it? Arrange some play food on the floor, or give one piece to each child. Be sure to say the name of each piece of food as you set it down or hand it out so that the children are sure to know what they’re called.

“FEED ME!” the Hungry Thing says, just as it did in the book. The children respond as the townspeople did in the book, “What would you like to eat?” With much expression, the Hungry Thing asks for each food, substituting the first sound in each word as he did in the story. (You can certainly use nonesense words, “felery” for celery, but some of the children’s favorites are also when it ends up being a real word – hair for pear, sneeze for cheese. Do it any way you want, it just needs to rhyme.) The children place the food in the hungry thing’s mouth. My kids’ favorite part with my puppet is when the Thing munches voraciously on the food and then burps loudly with the food flying back out (so that I can clear the way for the next item). Think of Cookie Monster as your motivation.

Reading this book and participating in this activity helps to build rhyming skills, which are a fundamental pre-reading skill. Your children will love this activity! I often leave the book, puppet, and a bowl of food out in the reading area after doing this activity with a group of children so that they can continue the activity on their own!
