Expanding on fun bars around Philadelphia for the upcoming warm weather, thetownbug suggests trying Cavanaugh’s River Deck. Cavanaugh’s suggests that they host a nightclub, however, do not be discouraged; it’s much more like a nice outdoor bar right on the river. Cavanaugh’s has a few different indoor and outdoor bars, so there is never too long of a wait for obtaining a drink.

Although Cavanaugh’s does not offer anything extremely unusual regarding beer and drink selections, it does have a laid back atmosphere that is extremely enjoyable during spring and summer. The DJ plays songs that bring people of all ages to the dance floor. Cavanaugh’s River Deck also has a restaurant menu that has a semi-Caribbean feel.

Be sure to travel towards Columbus Boulevard to see the escape from the city that Cavanaugh’s provides; it won’t disappoint!

Tir Na Nog Irish Bar & Grill

1600 Arch St., Philadelphia, PA 19103-2016

St. Patty’s day at Tir Na Nog is a classier way to get sloshed on the notorious
Irishman’s holiday. $3 Harp drafts and Miller Lite bottles, $4 house wine, $5 cosmos, $4 Mixed drinks, $5 Nachos, and other St. Patty’s day specials.

No matter what you choose to do to celebrate your St. Patty’s day, it will be a blast in Philadelphia. As long as the plan revolves around Guinness, green beer, authentic Irish food, and leprechauns are involved, your St. Patty’s Day will be headed in a great direction. Hope this helped all of thetownbug’s followers out there! GOOD LUCK!

Triumph Brewing Company has 3 locations: Philadelphia, PA, Princeton, NJ, and New Hope, PA. The restaurant bar offers great food and fresh beer from its in-house microbrewery.

At Triumph’s 2-story Philadelphia location, local talents are displayed through nightly entertainment. Typically, ten of the brewery’s beers are on tap. Triumph Brewing Company offers its guest an experience straying far from the normal bar scene. Specials are also hosted throughout the week.

thetownbug usually recommends spots that are normally overlooked due to their less club-like scene. However, Tavern on Broad is a worthwhile spot to visit. Tavern on Broad is located on Broad Street near the Academy of Music, on the corner of Walnut Street. It is located downstairs, right outside of the Hyatt at the Bellevue.

Tavern on Broad has established itself in the city, but rarely is noted for being associated with the popular McFadden bars. The bar itself (at Tavern on Broad) is a very large one floor space. There are many tables, bottle service is available, and most certainly a DJ spins nightly. This is an ideal bar for dancing. There are specials throughout the week, accompanied by bar food.

thetownbug especially recommends Tavern on Broad for special occasions. The staff is more than accommodating for large groups. Tables are available, regardless of ordering bottle service. Large parties may choose to utilize ordering at the bar or the wait staff while at the lounge tables.

Fox and Hound is a chain restaurant and bar. The Philadelphia location is a great bar spot. There is a plethora of beer always available on tap, including names such as Boddington’s, Magic Hat, Flying Fish, Victory, and many more.

Every Tuesday night the Fox and Hound hosts a $2 for any draft special, all day. This special brings in a huge gathering, especially, but not exclusively, on game nights. Spending Tuesday nights at Fox and Hound is a great way to watch the Flyers and Sixers, and soon the beloved Phillies. thetownbug has come to find that Tuesdays at Fox and Hound is the best deal in the city. Aside from the low total on the bill, the ability to try a new beer is a definite plus.

Check out the Fox and Hound website at: http://www.foxandhound.com/locations/philly.aspx

This bar will be a favorite for more than the obvious reason: Rob McElhenney, the actor who plays Mac from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia owns this bar. Mac’s Tavern is located in Old City Philadelphia. thetownbug is not recommending this bar solely based on its ownership, the bar has a fun environment. McElhenney managed to think of every possible thing that a bar go-er could want. There is a decent amount of space utilized in a terrific way, great specials, TVs, and the beer selection is endless.

thetownbug’s praise does not stop at the alcohol offered at Mac’s Tavern. The food is also delicious. Mac’s menu features bar staples, as well as some new offerings that brand names from characters of It’s Always Sunny. (Definitly try the Green & White Chicken Cutlett sandwich!) The best description for the food at Mac’s Tavern is “Bar Style Gourmet.” The unique twists on every food option will definitely bring you back. (If the beer doesn’t, which is highly doubtful.)

Venture down and try it out so you can see why thetownbug is buzzing about Mac’s Tavern! Here’s the website:http://macstavern.com/

thetownbug encourages everyone to get out and about on Friday, 03/04/2011! The city should be buzzing due to the fact that it is Philly’s First Friday, where local art, food, music, and beverages are celebrated. Although art may not be everyone’s forte, this event will surely bring more people to the bars. Bars with great happy hours and drink specials, such as Drinkers Tavern ($2 domestic draft pints, $6 domestic pitchers, $3 craft draft pints, $9 craft pitchers, $3 Captain Morgan drinks, and $3 Three Olives drinks until 11PM), National Mechanics ($1 off most drafts, $3 off most pitchers, and $2 off special drinks for a 5PM-7PM happy hour), and many others! Never heard of this event before? Well, now you have! So make sure to participate in this small celebration of the fine city of Philadelphia, located in Old City!

Eulogy Belgian Tavern is unlike any bar thetownbug has had the pleasure of buzzing at. There are over 300 beers from all over the world, most with names you have never heard. Do not be discouraged by the daunting thought of being able to choose amongst the variety! The bartenders are very knowledgeable and can explain what every beer is in detail. Although it is easy for the eye to graze over this small bar, it is absolutely worthwhile to check out. For more information on this gem, check out Eulogy Belgian Tavern’s website at: http://eulogybar.server101.com/

If you haven’t tried NATIONAL MECHANICS already, be sure to make it a priority. The location of National Mechanics makes it ideal to start the night off. National Mechanics is situated right within Old City, Philadelphia, center of the bars that most weekend warriors gravitate towards. It’s not the typical club-esque bar, but the interior will prove to be one of the coolest you’ve visited yet. The beer selection is amazing, providing accommodations for local breweries. Something else everyone can appreciate: TABLES and CHAIRS! Make sure you stop by this awesome bar right in the Philadelphia neighborhood! Check out their website: http://nationalmechanics.com/

03/01/2011

Recovering from Winter depression is far from easy. There is no sweeter buzz to thetownbug than the thought of turning St. Patty’s day into a 2 week long event. St. Patty’s day should not only be remembered as a Irishman’s drunk holiday, but should also be remembered as the start of Spring, helping weekend warriors shake their Winter slump.

thetownbug suggests the “ERIN EXPRESS” as a great way to get out and about March 5th and March 12th! Details about this event can be found at http://www.cavanaughsrestaurant.com/eventErinExp.asp OR http://philly.cities2night.com/read/2169/erin-express-kicks-off-march-s-train-inspired-pub-crawls. Way to go Cavanaugh’s! Not only do you provide a great way to relieve boredom by replacing it with a festive drinking occasion, but you provide transportation. Let’s be honest, not everyone can buzz around town like thetownbug.
