Ducksauce can do it aNYway that you want to

Ducksauce is the much hyped collaboration between A-Trak and Armand Van Helden. Their mission is to bring back 90’s Disco House tweaked with the sounds of the 2000’s. They have been generating huge industry buzz as most DJ’s think that Disco and French house was the pinnacle of house music.

Check out the comments from other DJ’s in this teaser video. This type of buzz from a collaboration is unusual from DJ’s of totally different styles and eras. Even the guy giving me a haircut a month ago was talking about it.

Their first single “aNYway” has deep roots in the Disco and Soul songs of the 70’s and they pay tribute to that with this awesome musice video:

A-Trak and Armand Van Helden decided to put together a video to talk about the collaboration and their roots as Hip Hop DJ’s that moved to House Music. It is really interesting to hear them talk about the production process for house music and how difficult it can be.

I think this is a phenomenal collaboration: Armand Van Helden brings 15 years of experience making house music and A-Trak is one of the hottest up and coming hip hop DJ’s out there who seems to be transitioning to House and has greatly improved his production skills the past two years.

Since A-Trak brought up Stardust, I wanted to relive this great moment in house history when Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe and Benjamin Diamond churned out “Music Sounds Better With You” after they essentially improvised it during a live show. The song only took one day in the studio to make. They never collaborated again with Bangalter focusing his efforts on Daft Punk. Now I don’t think Ducksauce’s first song is at that level but I hope that they continue to find time to get to the studio together. I can only imagine their “collabos” as Van Helden would say will get better in the future. And now you know…

Our relation to art is mostly an ambiguous one. There are those of us expecting a casual relation with music and movies or any other art form wanting only to be entertained. Some others look for merely daring stuff with an edge of craziness just enough to maintain your mental balance. Whereas Shock value is the potential of an image, text or other form of communication to provoke a reaction of disgust, shock, anger, fear or similar negative emotion. Shock value is often used in the world of TV commercials in order to gain attention for the product or service in offer. For example, the Benetton Group is infamously known for using shocking material in their ads such as two horses, one black, one white, having sex as if to say sex is blind, and so should we. Such shock value can be seen in Gaspar Noé’s movie Irréversible. It is not an easy movie to watch but as an examination of what people are capable and how violence can come from nowhere and from the unexpected. The backward structure takes what is essentially a dull revenge story and turns it on its ear as we are forced to really examine how things get out of hand very quickly and what people will do when pushed to the limit. Gaspar Noe uses low frequency sound to create nausea, headaches, and disorientation in the beginning and uses it again here to make the viewer feel sick after the mood changes dramatically. Such effects are amplified by Daft punk’s frontman Thomas Bangalter who made the score of Irréversible. That soundtrack for Irreversible is a serious, moody and broody piece of work. Bangalter does an absolutely incredible job with this soundtrack in conveying the starkly contrasting emotions and realities portrayed in the film. This record runs the gamut from dark, deeply disturbing ambient tracks, to fast-driving, funky french house beats. My favorite is Rectum a sparse piece of eerie ambiant and sparse music that is quitte effective with is dark climax. I might be alone in my clan but I actually liked Irréversible, I found it to be obnoxious for some moments but also very challenging and daring. After all, isn’t what art is somewhat supposed to do ?

Vô começar com um classico:

Eu ouvi essa track num mixset dos caras do Database e adorei a composição, quando fui procurar a track, ela já era um pouco antiga, só peço para repararem na pegada disco do começo, e que ela lembra demais, outras musicas do naipe do Shazam. A ausencia dos vocais também deixou a musica mais emocionante, ja que o bpm foi acelerado nesse remix.

A Segunda e umltima da noite :

• Cassius – La Mouche (Dj Falcon Remix)

Cassius como sempre, cria suas tracks para o bem do mundo, com suas inovadoras tecnicas de agradar o publico criou uma track que acho eu, é reconhecida muito pouca na comunidade french mu-si-que.
Falcon, conhecido no mundo french por tocar ao lado de Thomas Bangalter (da Duo Daft Punk), fez oque ja era bom ficar melhor, em seu remix é possivel constar uma imensidão de loops, e um style q lembra bem a pegada french

i was in town one afternoon in early july 2003. i had to drop something to the department of education for my brother. in the evening i met my friend to go to a play written by a friend of ours. in the interim, i picked up muzik magazine – it had p diddy on the cover! his much-lauded let’s get ill was, apparently, about to reshape the dance music universe. well, with the benefit of hindsight, we all know that never happened…

more important was the free cd that came with the magazine. i think i’d heard of the dj, erol alkan, a few months previously in the sunday times magazine, as one to watch. those profiles are all well and good, but mean nothing if you can’t hear what he’s about. this cd changed all that. the section of my diary entry (yes, i keep a diary) concerning the magazine read as follows: “Got Muzik with cool electro stylee cd.” if you forgive me for using the word stylee, you’ll understand what the relevance was. up to this point, i had moved from euphoria-style trance in the late 90s, to global underground and renaissance in the early 00s. a little of funky house had entered my sphere but not so much that i’d ever be tempted to enter that world permanently. this erol alkan chap helped redefine the sounds i was listening to. i must mention james lavelle, whose gu022 had ventured outside the prog-house mould and belatedly introduced me to the likes of dj shadow, as well as the solo work of thomas bangalter. i also got to know the beast that is unkle – but that’s a story for another day. this is about erol.

unfortunately i wouldn’t see erol in the flesh until 2006, but that wasn’t for lack of trying. once i was sick. once he played the trinity ball and i couldn’t find him. once he was playing just hours before i flew to prague. once i was in america. and so on. when i finally did see him, i wrote this.

you’ve read a lot to get this point. now you can just enjoy the mix.

20 years before Da Daft boys went ‘Around the World’, Didier Marouani took us to Space and back with one of the finest, purely instrumental electronic dance music tracks of all time: Magic Fly. A monster hit, this peaked at #2 on the UK chart, and went gold everywhere. It’s easy to get distracted by that video, but the production is arguably more complex than almost anything DP has ever done (and I worship at the altar of Bangalter). Anyway, thank god for famine, economic crises and King Louis XVI, because without all of those things causing a lil’ old French Revolution the Bastille would have never been stormed and we wouldn’t have a thing to celebrate.
