Megadeth - Crypting Writings

Seguimos con la discografía de Megadeth, con su séptimo álbum de estudio. Con “Crypting Writings” los californianos siguieron la senda que habían construído con el anterior “Youthanasia”. Temas con un sonido más heavy, con muchos toques de hard rock, en un disco ligero donde solo un par de temas se podrían clasificar como thrash metal: “FFF” y “The Desintegrators”

Un disco suave, sencillo pero curiosamente intenso, con temas míticos de indiscutible calidad, como la increíble “Trust”, la oscura “Almost Honest” o la épica “She-Wolf”, que según mi criterio es el tema más remarcable de todo el álbum.

Se acercaban tiempos “oscuros” para Mustaine y su troupe, si bien por esa época todavía tuvieron el reconocimiento de la crítica y del público, pese a firmar un álbum bastante comercial, eso no tiene que ser sinónimo de fracaso. A mí personalmente es un LP que me encanta.

¿Puede existir algo mejor para liberar tensiones post examen que una buena de Thrash? Bueno si, a lo mejor si, pero tampoco vamos a ser quisquillosos.

El caso es que en el Bola 8 disfrutamos el sábado de una buena noche de Thrash, la peña de Stillnes lo puso todo y consiguió calentar al personal a pesar de un jodido acople que se colaba en todo momento; y los Toxik Society remataron la faena por todo lo alto ^_^

Vuelven los estadounidenses con un disco de puro thrash old school.

Canciones con mucha caña y directas como puñetazos es lo que nos encontraremos en su reciente disco “World Painted Blood”. Además de una producción muy ochentera, sin grandes “retoques” de producción.

En resumen: una bestialidad que se han marcado Araya y los suyos.

Todo mundo sabe (tá, todo mundo não, só os metaleiros por dentro das fofocas) da antiga “rixa” entre Megadeth e Slayer. E todo mundo já tá careca de saber que Dave Mustaine e Kerry King se amam, mas esse ano o amor pegou fogo quando eles saíram juntos em turnê no Canadá (a Canadian Carnage) e irá entrar em combustão ano que vem quando iniciarem a American Carnage, que conta com o Testament de brinde.

Todo mundo especulou sobre uma turnê dos “Big Four” do Thrash Metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer e Anthrax), o que não rolou, mas essa turnê vai ser foda de qualquer jeito (pena que não pretendem nem passar pela fronteira do México).

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

Why can’t they just get out of this whole mallcore thing??? Why won’t they step deeper into the depths? WHY?????

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

It’s time to ditch out mallcore people! Ditch it out and explore into the depths of Metal!

In Defence – Into The Sewer
released September 28, 2009 on Learning Curve Records

This is the second full-length album from the Twin Cities band, In Defence. They play hardcore with a strong NYHC influence that’s fused with elements of thrash metal and full of the humor and speed of punk. Most tracks are chock full of profanities but there are a few of interest. Track 2 starts out with drums that a reminiscent of early Agnostic Front and Minor Threat. The time signature is very basic and dominated by speed. Track 7 has a time-signature that fuses thrash-metal bass (think early Metallica and/or other comparable bands) and it culminates at 1:20 with a breakdown before falling back into the same pattern for the rest of the song. Easily one of their decent songs, despite the fact that there’s profanity. Track 9 has a sound reminiscent of the Cro-Mags and early Bad Religion. Track 10 takes the various sounds that they are aiming for in this record and attempts to make sense of them, resulting in a song with a time signature that starts out slow and builds up to thrashing drums and short, timely breakdowns.

In conclusion, this album works well if you’re a fan of both older thrash and old-school hardcore because it takes the best of both elements. If the songs were  slower and more technically proficient, they’d be modern thrash songs. If they were faster, they’d be old-school hardcore songs.  This album is a good medium for fans of both styles, though my biggest gripe would be the profanity that ruins the complexity of Track 7. Otherwise, give this a few spins.

Days of Purgatory is a compilation featuring many songs from Iced Earth’s early career that were re-recorded in order to have definitive versions featuring Matthew Barlow on vocals (who joined in 1994).

It was the very first Iced Earth album I ever purchased and I did it because it was recommended to me as a starting point for the band. Iced Earth was a name I kept coming across online as a great metal band and I wanted to sample them. Despite this album’s purpose to be showcase for Barlow’s vocals, it’s his vocals that have deterred me from ever becoming an Iced Earth fan. I just don’t like his sound.

I bought this album in either December ‘98 or ‘99 and I remember listening to it with a friend and we both remarked how some of the music was really cool (“Angels Holocaust” especially) but the vocals were holding it back. Truth be told, looking back, even some of the music isn’t up to snuff for me but there are a few great thrash moments.

I’ve always loved the cover though. It features the comic book character and vampire goddess Purgatori with art provided by the late Steven Hughes.

A two-disc edition was released at the same time. Too bad I didn’t know anything about it when I bought this one disc version!

SÃO PAULO – O Metallica anunciou hoje que voltará ao Brasil em janeiro para apresentações em Porto Alegre e São Paulo, como parte da turnê mundial de divulgação do álbum “Death Magnetic”, lançado em setembro de 2008. A informação foi divulgada no site oficial (www.metallica.com) da banda norte-americana de thrash metal, que desde 1999 não vem ao País para a realização de shows musicais.

Thomas Gabriel Fischer kończąc działalność swojej grupy Hellhammer nie zamierzał wcale zrywać z muzyką. Przyświecał mu cel grania ambitniejszego i o lepszej produkcji, stąd też zdecydował się na powołanie do życia tworu o nazwie Celtic Frost. I choć wielu słuchaczy myślało ówcześnie, że to po prostu inkarnacja Hellhammer pod odmiennym szyldem, rzeczywistość była inna. Jak wspominał później Tom, jego poprzednia formacja była przez długi czas przekleństwem nowego projektu i niemalże go nie przekreśliła. Na szczęście, szwajcarski Celtic Frost przetrwał, otwierając nowy rozdział w historii ciężkiego grania, z czasem stając się też źródłem inspiracji dla wielu zespołów.

Potępieńcze wycie umęczonych dusz otwiera płytę, a zarazem także kompozycję “Into The Crypt Of Rays”, opowiadającą o średniowiecznym seryjnym mordercy i okultyście, Gillesie de Rais. Dynamiczny utwór z rzężącymi, aczkolwiek czytelnie brzmiącymi gitarami i chrapliwym nieco głosem Warriora dobrze oddaje, jak zabrzmi cały album. Od razu słychać, że Celtic Frost lepiej wyprodukowano, niż dziełka Hellhammer czy też Venom, którego echa w muzyce Fischera gdzieś się odbijają. Słychać też zresztą inspirację Black Sabbath (ociężałe, mocne riffy) i Motörhead (charakterystyczne przyspieszenia). Przede wszystkim, choć nie jest to grzeczna muzyka, zdecydowanie więcej tu swoistej elegancji i ogłady, niż chociażby u wspomnianej angielskiej grupy dowodzonej przez Cronosa. Nadal jednak pozostaje agresywnym graniem na styku thrashu, heavy i dopiero rodzącego się black metalu – chociaż na takim, swoją drogą kapitalnym, “Procreation (Of The Wicked)” pewnie uczyła się grać niejedna doom metalowa kapela, a tytułowy kawałek mógł być inspiracją dla deathmetalowców. Fischer nie zdecydował się na “Morbid Tales” zbytnio eksperymentować, wszystkie utwory mają takie samo, chropawe brzmienie gitar i podobną motorykę, co sprawia, że przy pierwszych przesłuchaniach nie jest tak łatwo odróżnić od siebie większość z nich. Warto też nadmienić, że muzycy lubią zmieniać znienacka tempo, jak chociażby w “Visions Of Mortality”. Najbardziej awangardowym elementem albumu jest z pewnością instrumentalny “Danse Macabre”, pełen dziwacznych, schizoidalnych dźwięków. Pewną nowalijką jest też krótka żeńska deklamacja w “Return To The Eve” – ten patent podejrzy w przyszłości niejedna black metalowa banda, choć trzeba pamiętać, że wcześniej wykorzystał go już Venom.

Celtic Frost wjazd na metalową scenę mieli bezkompromisowy, ale prawdziwy przełom, dokonany za sprawą “To Mega Therion” i “Into The Pandemonium”, dopiero ich – i światek ciężkiego grania – czekał.

• 31 maja 1984 r. zakończono działalność Hellhammer, a 1 czerwca 1984 r. powołano do życia Celtic Frost.

Biografia de la banda:

Los inicios de Nocturnal se remontan al año 1997 cuando la banda Bestial Desecration (Alemania) grabo su primer demo. Despues esta banda se separo en el año 2000 y el unico miembro original renombro a la banda Nocturnal. La meta continuaba siendo la misma del comienzo: tocar riffs basados en la antigua vena del thrash metal como Destruction,Assassin, Living Death, Onslaught, Razor, Sodom, Exumer, Exodus y muchas mas. El primer lanzamiento fue “Rites of the black mass”. Despues de este, a finales del año 2000 Avenger conoce a Skull Crusher quien se une a la banda a tocar la segunda guitarra y se hace cargo de la vocales.  Con esta segunda alineacion la banda la banda graba 4 temas de los cuales 2 fueron lanzados en el sencillo “Slaughter command”. En la mitad de este mismo año Metallic Mayhem(Vocals) y Hellbastard (drums) completan la alineacion de la banda, y con esto Skull Crusher se aparta de la banda. Con la nueva alineacion graban 5 temas en el mes de noviembre que son lanzados como “Thrash with the devil”. Al mis tiempo la banda recluta dos nuevos miembros: Jex (ex- Vexed) en la segunda guitarra y Vomitor en el bajo.                     

A comienzos de abril del 2003 entran al estudio una vez mas a grabar el  7-inch EP llamado “Fire of revenge” el cual fue lanzado un año despues debido a muchos inconvenientes. Mientras tanto Jex se separa de la banda debido a problemas personales y otros.  Despues, la banda firma contrato con From beyond Prod y en junio la banda entra al Toxicmusic Studio (Desaster, Metal inquisitor, Metalucifer, Decayed ) y como resultado sale ” Arival of the Carnivore”.  Despues de esto la banda saca otras producciones, entre ellas un split con Pagan Rites, que muestran el poder y la energia del verdadero metal. Su ultima produccion ” Violent Revenge” cuenta con un nuevo miembro ,despues de la salida de Metallic Mayhem, que es Tyrannizer ejecutando las vocales.
