Stunning take on a classic design and all for a good cause. I’ve not seen them for sale in any UK stores so far, looks like the only immediate option is to get them for $150 from US stores like Opening Ceremony. Import duty-tastic!

Freshjive is back with their numbero uno “blank label” piece featuring OBAMA and Shepard Fairey’s famous/infamous? Hope poster, but the message this time seem’s a little less positive as to when it first came out. People are saying things aren’t changing as quickly as they expected. While this Tee probably wont make the world of a differance, they do say t-shirt culture and street culture in general has always been somewhat of a voice for the people, but then again it’s OBAMA, and i think he’s a cool dude, but then again and im australian and anybody is cooler than the k-rudd aka Krud.

Let’s be honest, if it’s non-representational, I usually run for the hills. It’s not my fault. I had a semester of painful Robert Smithson-inspired soliloquies, and now, if it doesn’t have a face, I’m out. Once in a while, though, I allow myself to be reduced down to the purely formal elements of art (I won’t bother you with my list of acceptable abstract artists), and I happen to enjoy Katy Heinlein’s work. It’s so pretty, with its soft colorful draped fabrics. What? I’m not a monster. I can feel.

der Jamaika-Koalition zugestimmt und Ministerpräsident Müller

kann was Neues machen. Es gibt bereits in Hamburg CDU-Grüne

und es werden die Rot-Roten in Potsdam auch als Demokraten bestehen.

Man soll der Demokratie der Parteien vertrauen. Ferner

die Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntags-Zeitung sowie BILD,

I have been wearing vintage clothing for around twenty years now…

Man, that seems like such a long time.

I started buying vintage clothing at the age of fifteen which I suppose for most is quite young.

I have always loved shopping for that special fifties shirt, jacket or tie. The thrill of the find!

Interestingly I have pretty much everything I have ever collected and I can still wear them all. It’s actually been my secret to staying trim, I have to fit into the damn clothes! But hey,whatever works, mind you many people would think it is odd that one would work out and watch their diet just so that he could wear fifty year old polyester shirts.

One of the best things about being a guy into vintage clothing is that it is so easy for me to find clothing that is functional and fabulous. For men a simple fifties jack shirt with a pair of modern (but traditional) black trousers will create the perfect look and it was all done for a couple of dollars .
Add a hat and viola! Instant retro.

For those just new to the retro scene I think the key is to know what era you are going for and stick with it. Read lots of books, check out the net and most importantly watch lots of old movies to pick up the clothing styles you need to look out for. Hell, even take some photos with you.

You will make mistakes when you start out, I recall recently seeing a photo of me with this horrible pink rayon shirt that really even Elvis would have rejected as being too loud.
I remember wearing it with pride to a Rockabilly gig in Brisbane circa 1991 and nobody said anything to me about how horrible the shirt was, I felt pretty good about it too…but looking back it was quite wrong.

Here is another trick. Don’t reject reproduction clothing – It doesn’t have to be all original. Mix and match, aim to wear one piece of original clothing perhaps. Certainly don’t reject a piece of clothing that you might find at the charity store that is fairly modern but in a retro style.
I have quite a few 80’s sports coats that were done in the fifties style. If it looks good and you can benefit from a retro trend, then go for it.

Remember, it’s all about the ‘Thrill of the Find”

ANSWERS:

1. Many ways to do it. I prefer join(). When a thrad A calls b.join(), then A runs only after thread b completes. So, for this problem, C has to call b.join() and B has to call a.join()
2. Actually…, nothing the notify() call simply returns.
3. Declare the variable as volatile. Every thread caches a copy of instance variable, work with local copy, and then sync it with master copy. But, threads do not cache a copy of volatile instance variable.
4. Obtain class level lock. synchronized( obj.getClass()) {……..}
5. Leaving the answer to readers!

Noor, one of the first to hear about FashionThreads and spread the word amongst her friends, has always impressed me with her versatile style.  The editorial associate at Enigma is pursuing her career in the fashion industry attending the Dubai Fashion Week, store openings and more, she even got acclaimed by Grazia UAE as best dressed at the Dubai Fashion Week; but seriously, lets move on to her, yet again, amazing outfit.  The all black look Noor is sporting can be defined as elegant, timeless, stylish, and sexy; all without trying too hard!  Noor is sporting a LBD, every girl’s wardrobe staple; click here for my LBD article.  The fashionista topped it off with a perfect trench, which she kept looking young and modern when she pushed the sleeves up.  Then come the accessories, the suede boots are the perfect shape but the statement jewelry add a spark to  the all black outfit; the gold chain necklace and statement large ethnic rings worn on her hands painted with deep purple nail polish.  Take a cue from Noor, an outfit doesn’t need a lot of everything to look chic!

I am stating to see the utility in Google Wave, but that is not exactly groundbreaking news. I suppose the biggest thing so far that I can see is the playback feature, which allows you to play back a thread as it was created (to get a sense of the flow).

Also are the ability to thread conversations in midstream. I have provided a few screenshots below by way of example.

My beautifully wonderful Twitter-buddy, KJ, pointed out the new Tanya Morgan iPhone App commercial features got SOLE?, Indy’s premier sneaker/streetwear boutique.  Mike & his wife are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and they put in the long hours to keep Indianapolis (and the world) looking fresh.

Check out Donwill at the bus stop, wearing a got SOLE? New Era fitted, followed by Von Pea & Ilyas spitting verses.  If I was a rapper, I might even go download the Freestyle App…. looks kinda dope.

Johnny Cupcakes have just shown us some of their latest limited edition Tee’s, The one above is part of the ” Bakers Dozen” and limited to 130 pieces and only available in store. The indian chief tee (after the jump) is available online only and limited to 200 pieces, so all in all , each piece is very limited so be sure to cop your’s quick!

Awesome furry costumes from Estelle Hanania. I also threw in a strange Japanese-looking puppet. Estelle has some nice, dark work (some is literally dark, but most darkly themed), and appears to be French.

Nanowrimo weekly update: I am officially at 6,365 words!!! Still quite a ways to go, but I’m pretty happy with the progress. Not to mention that I’m absolutely loving writing about “God-threads” and fictionizing (yes, I made that word up, but I like it) events from a different perspective.  Here’s to 43,635 words to go!

Yes indeed, it’s that time again, and in honour of this momentous occasion, Out On Blue Six presents five amazing facts you never knew about Britain’s favourite defunct provider of third rate sub-Amicus/Hammer horror flicks:

- despite winding down operations in 1976 for absolutely no suspect reasons whatsoever and subsequently having a nice day out at the seaside with a vicar (we will of course not be naming the vicar), the Tyburn Films name was briefly revived in 1984 for a project entitled Batty!, a movie based on the incident in which popular puppet rodent Roland Rat was hit with a cricket bat; this failed to get off the ground when the film was seized before production as a ‘Video Nasty’, though it was later released as a blank disc in a box set of former Nasties alongside Threads: Just The Swearing, Ghostwatch Smeg-Outs and some bloody ITV wartime drama that even Network considered ‘too obscure’. Lawyers have asked us to emphasise that Tyburn Films were never involved with any prospective films about erstwhile celebrity puppets.

- in 1972  Tyburn Films were the recipient of a prestigious ‘Uncle’ award, given out by Fans Of The Silents in recognition of contributions to the genre, in response to their soundless presentation of Frank Zappa’s over-droned-on-about concert at the Royal Albert Hall where he phoned Mary Whitehouse and called her a “Swizzlewick silly” or something, which many noted was vastly improved in the absence of the audio track, though this has posthumously been withdrawn after it was discovered that the master tape was recently recorded over with the Supergrass ‘mockumentary’ Glange Fever, and the original was unable to be recovered even from an off-air recording retained by superfan Ian Levine. This is a handy mobile interface and works great from your desk too.  You simple log into Tweetbe.at (as in TweetBeat) with oAuth and pick a channel or hashtag.  When I say pick, I mean type one in to be clear.  There is no list of existing channels to be found.  I made a quick one for the SocialMediaBusinessForum (#smbf)

You are then presented with a nice sized, timeline list of tweets with that tag and the avatars and names of who sent the tweet.  By clicking the small talk bubble you can see the entire thread they find around that tweet, which is handy for seeing it as a chat.

There is also the ability to translate the text in the conversation and have a permalink just to that individual conversation!  You can also retweet, favorite or reply.  URL shortenting is included as wel as simply grabbing the hashtag in the reply automatically to keep the thread going.  Muting is allowed by clicking the skull on a person or choosing it from the main menu.

In the settings area you can create a description for the channel, the style, color and what to include.  Such as retweets, replies or even automated postings.  The default color seems to look the best from the few I selected.  I am unclear if it does autoupdating or if you can control the time at which it refreshes.  I saw no settings for that portion.

The interface lends itself great to putting this on a screen for conferences, seminars and the like.

As I begin with Day One, I look forward to the final version of my new book WHAT THE SURFACE REVEALS~THE THREADS PROJECT 2001-2007 to appear in my mailbox. From the work documented there I chose the title of this blog which I hope evokes the connections not only to my interests in both art and textiles, but speaks as well of the wide continuum that being an artist means.

The image in my header is a detail from “River, Stones”, a large textile work using acrylic, cotton, tulle, and thread on silk that is mounted to black cotton. It is a memory of a summer on a small river.

With new book in hand, I will add to the story of “River, Stones” and describe the ideas and share the work that became the six-year THREADS PROJECT.

My friend Erica has been making these creepy and wonderful dolls. It’s amazing how they look like they’ve been made a long time ago, they have this very old-school feel.
