As we all prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, the proper response even before going into a turkey induced coma is to…give thanks.  Any list like this will fall woefully short, so I wouldn’t be surprised if another shows up tomorrow.  In light of that, here are few people for which I’m thankful.

Amy – truly the only women in the world with whom I would want to be married.  We still catch ourselves staring at each other with that look that reminds us just how much we love each other.  Truly, the person with whom for me, face time is essential.  She has the prettiest smile and the most intoxicating laugh.

Meredith – an incredibly bright and Godly young woman who shares my love of reading.

Landry – my little energizer bunny who reminds me so much of myself.

Emma – the cuddliest of our 3 who always begs for one more book at bedtime.  She has my hair and the ability to smile her way out of trouble.

Sovereign King Church – an incredible group of people who display their love of Jesus by loving my family, each other and Garner.

Mom and Sam – 2 parents who have always believed in me and supported whatever I wanted to attempt.  I can always call them if I need someone to encourage me.

Awesome Siblings who do a better job keeping up with me than I do with them.

Friends who have heard the depths of my frustration and honesty yet still choose to love and respect me.

And finally, Jesus Christ – my Savior and my God whose patience and grace astound me daily.

Who are you thankful for this year, and how can you let them know it?

For many many years I’ve been in to all things TECH!!! It all started with my passion for a nice sound system at the age of 12. When I turned 12 years I bought my first Kenwood receiver and a set of generic bookshelf speakers. I truly felt like a HiFi aristocrat. A year later, with money I received from selling my snowmobile I bought a Kenwood Double Tape Deck with Dolby B and C Noise Reduction. This was a top of the line piece of equipment for it’s time. Shortly thereafter, I purchased a Kenwood CD player with money I received from confirmation. This was a big decision for me since CDs were very new at the time. I debated the lack of being able to record, the initial investment, and the longevity of CD technology and based on my research made the plunge. Look at what CD technology has led to now?

Over the next few years I would add a television and a VCR and eventually take the entire system to college. My system gained a nameskae that would forever be known as the “Heathaplex.” People would ask to come by and watch a movie at the Heathaplex. I certainly had no problem showing off my system, the sound quality and the surround sound system. Over the years, the Heathaplex would grow and upgrade. I started to sell of pieces of equipment to purchase new ones. The Heathaplex would come with me to Air Force Pilot Training in Del Rio, TX to my first assignment at Farichild AFB in Spokane, WA. This is where I purchased my first projection screen televison. The Heathaplex moved with me to Charleston AFB, SC during my time as an airlift pilot and eventually to my current home in Leavenworth, KS. It was during the move that my projection television was damaged beyond repair as well as a DVD player and a VCR. Once I received replacement value for the damaged items I purchased a Plasma television and a Blu Ray player. The Heathaplex is in full effect with 7.1 THX Surround Sound and 1080p vision. In short, the Heathaplex is off the Hizzle!!!

Now you see where my passion stemmed from, but it certainly doesn’t stop there. I’ve been exposed to computers since the first grade and never passed up the opportunity to crash a computer or physically take it apart to fix them. I’ve expanded my knowledge of the various sound processing formats along with all the new media available for Home Theater and Media Centers. It seems as if my dreams of having a computer in the living room are finally coming true with the ability of my PlayStation3, TiVo, and Sony Blu Ray player all being able to stream music off my network, access the internet, stream and rent movies from Amazon and NetFlix, and provide some incredible additional content to compliment my Blu Ray discs. In short, I spend a lot of time keep up with the Tech Joneses in an effort to share this knowledge with you.

Heathaplex Vision has a simple mission: to provide you with quality home and personal technology advice. Over the years I’ve helped design home heater setups, provided computer tech support, offered ways to setup computer networks, given guided tours of the Heathaplex and the options people have in Home Theater means. If you decide to play with your HDTV factory default settings and calibrate them to better suit your viewing environment, there are couple of options available out there. Depending on how much perfection you are seeking in picture quality and how much money and time you want to spend, these options range from using freely available calibration software, to buying a calibration disc, to using the services of a professional calibration technician. While individual viewing preferences may vary, the free/low cost calibration software would definitely help improve the picture quality. For even better results, you can go for a professional calibration.

In either case, knowing a bit about the picture related terminology helps you make a better decision. Picture quality can be improved by adjusting TV’s Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Color, Backlight and Tint. Advanced options like Color Tone, Dynamic Contrast, Gamma, White Balance, Edge Enhancement and Flesh Tone can be used to further improve the quality. Note that different TV manufacturers may use different terminology to refer to these advanced options. Table below lists color settings for a typical HDTV:

Anyone who goes to the movies is aware of THX, but not many people are actually aware of what it is and what the logo means in relation to a theater. THX is owned by LucasFilm and the brainchild of former LucasFilm chief scientist Tomlinson Holman (my friend and mentor), who is now a professor at USC and is the man that coined the phrase “5.1″ surround sound. Tom is good at coining names that stick, and in fact, THX stands for Tomlinson Holman eXperiment.

So what is it? It used to be that movies theaters varied a huge amount in audio playback quality. A movie that sounded great in one theater would sound like it was coming out of a tin can in another because there was no real standard for playback quality. This came to George Lucas’ attention upon the release of Star Wars, which was a very sound-heavy movie with a great score and lots of sound effects. As they followed the release of the film across the country, Lucas and his production team were frequently appalled at how many theaters had an inferior audio playback system and how bad their movie would sound as a result. If all theaters sounded equally as bad, you could compensate for that. But if the quality was hit or miss, that was a problem.

As a result, Holman came up with THX, which is a standard for playback quality between theaters, in 1983 before the release of Return of the Jedi.

Barring any challenge to the validation of Baltimore City’s foreclosure auction of July 22nd, the city’s Circuit Court is expected the formalize the city’s ownership of the historic Senator Theatre by the end of the day. A mere 17 days shy of the theatre’s 70th anniversary… Yes, for me it is a Black Friday.

In any case the BDC (Baltimore Development Corporation) expects to release their RFP (Request For Proposals) the this Monday, September 21 and has stated it will accept proposals through November 20, 2009.

Whatever you may think of the situation or how it came about, I’d have to challenge anyone who would argue that there has been a better venue in Baltimore in which to experience a motion picture than at The Senator Theatre.

I have never experienced the level of presentation excellence anywhere in the Baltimore area  (since I began attending The Senator in the mid-80’s) – Not to mention I’ve never had issues trying to simply watch a film without interruptions/distractions, I have, at least once, in every other movie venue I’ve patronized… In many cases, the first was the last.

And perhaps that is a contributing factor as to why even the multiplexes are experiencing financial difficulties? Why put up with rude audiences, below par projection and sound? I mean really. Compared to many local venues, I’ve seen better presentation staying at home watching a DVD (or if you’ve got the TV & player for it, Blu-ray)!

Think I’m imagining or alone in this?

Consider the following quote from Gavin Hood, director of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, at the recent Fox press event for the film’s Blu-ray release (reported on thedigitalbits.com):

“What’s great about Blu-ray is that it really comes as close as possible to that first original screening [of your film],” he noted, after complaining about how often he’s suffered through screenings of his films and been disappointed by the presentation quality, even in most theatres.

It is not called the Crying Room without good reason. Many parents lament their inability to go to the cinema and watch the latest release without organising a baby-sitter, so a crying room would seem to be the perfect solution.

Located in prime viewing within the two main auditoriums are the perfect facilities for cinema goers with babies. Comfortably seating seven people, each crying room creates a unique and exclusive experience.

My wife and I tried this once and I emphasise once. Being a man of high culture I convinced my wife to see Borat with our 3 month old daughter, with the plan being that she (daughter) would sleep through most of it.

If you think that THX surround sound advertisement at the start of a movie is annoying, it is really annoying when it wakes up a baby. To cut a long story short our daughter didn’t sleep and we tried every distraction technique possible, whilst trying to remain quiet (because another family was using the room) and enjoy the movie. The relaxing, escapism and entertainment that you get from going to most movies did not happen. I think we were more stressed after the movie.

Since then latest release movies have been few and far between and disappointingly, I haven’t been culturally enlightened by the movie Bruno.

Now personally I would never publicly admit to downloading torrents of the latest movie, I have just heard that some people, and parents of young families in particular, do this.

Mostly a DVD works fine but as readers of this post may have gathered my preferred choice of movie is not typically a quiet, educational documentary. I like action and comedy and the more car chases, gunfights and raucous humour the better. The latest Bourne something or other is perfect when the kids go to bed.

Here it is…the final song of my Manic Mondays series…this song is called 10 minutes because it last for 10 Minutes and is essentially a mini movie of various events that happen to myself and my engineer Big Drew in our attempt to make it to the studio within 10 Minutes…but even doper is that I challenged myself to name most of the 52 songs in order that were in my series…if you listen closely you can peep it…time passed crazy with this series…I wanna thank every website, blog, DJ, and fan that continues to support my music…during the process of Manic Mondays I’ve recorded a massive amount of music so I still have 248 songs that haven’t been released…I’ll still be releasing new records and Albums in the process of working on my next project that is being sponsored by the fam at DJ Booth, 2 DopeBoyz, and KevinNottingham…

I don’t even know what to do with my Mondays anymore, but this is a fitting end to what I think was a successful run. “10 Minutes” includes four songs strung into a “mini-movie” with production from three frequent collaborators. I’m just excited to see what K. Sparks has in store for everyone now that Manic Mondays is finished.

Im sitting watching probably my favorite Tv series of all time, after Seinfeld ofcourse
‘Young Indiana Jones Chronicles‘

It is a series telling the story of how Indiana Jones became the man we know from the movies, how he grew from a boy into a young man.
The main story surrounds the 1st world war, and how indy partakes both on the dreadful trenches of hell and also asa diplomat and spy.
All along the way he gets into strange, thrilling and fun situations, and always seems to be into some new girl.

I love this tv series because of its historical aspect; how it depicts the war, but also how all the different countries looked like during this period.
It is really quite interesting and entertaining!
Also, Sean Patrick Flanery who plays Teen-young man Indy is just great, his performance is worth an oscar

It is really a series I recommend, each episode is about like a small movie, aprox 1hr and 30 mins, and there are22 episodes in total so it is a great thing to keep you occupied, having fun and at the same time learning about history.
Plus they are created, developed and produced by none other than George Lucas and Rick Mccallum!

For some reason, Sean Patrick reminds me of a young version of english actor Rik Mayall, haha.

If you dont know who Rik mayall is; shame on you.

Great english actor/comedian; best known for his performance in the Tv series Bottom and The young ones.
I suggest you check those series out too, if you know whats good for ya…
