The anemones seem to cluster together in crevices. At the minus tide, the anemones close up (mostly) to retain moisture. Many of them are covered with broken bits of shells–perhaps as added protection from the sun.
We had a minus 1.3 foot tide this afternoon, which draws folks out to the reef to see all kinds of hidden gems–these emerald-green anemones are plentiful.
There are numerous tidal pools on the coast. Here’s a local resident–they really are that bright green, lying a few inches under the water.
