Back in the day you had to actually know how a computer worked to program the thing; today… not so much. That’s not meant negatively. It’s just that we’re about half way between punch cards and simply telling a computer what to do like on Star Trek. I mention this because I’ve encountered a lot of “senior developers" that still use the terms tier and layer interchangeably when referring to system architecture. The difference is significant yet simple to distinguish.

A tier is the “physical” separation of code, where a layer refers to the logical segregation of functionality. Physical separation of tiers does not necessarily mean separate servers.

Take an architecture that segregates functionality into User Interface (UI), Business Logic (BL) and Data Access (DAL).

In a small 3 Layer system, one could place logic for each layer in separate methods within the same DLL. For that matter the same class.

In a 3-tier system code for each of these types of logic would be placed in separate DLL’s. They could even be placed on separate servers.

If you have you UI and BL in one project (i.e. DLL) and your DAL in a separate project all running on the same machine you’ve got yourself a 3-layer, 2-tier architecture. I use this example because it is a very common real world scenario today.

That’s all there is to distinguishing between a tier and a layer.

This is significant because while using layers is almost always a good idea, using tiers can be quite costly. It is generally around 1000 times slower to make a call across a process boundary on the same machine than to make the same call within the same process. Things get exponentially worse if it’s on a separate machine, even on the same network.

Additionally, the phrase too much of a good thing applies with regard to tiers because of the impact on the complexity of the application and infrastructure required. Tiers should be considered an evil necessary to accommodate some levels of extensibility, security and fault tolerance. However, anyone that says you should always use 3-tier architecture should be placed in timeout with the other silly children.

Inversely, you can almost never go wrong implementing distinct layers. Don’t get carried away with it, but well thought out and separated layers simplify maintenance. Not to mention keeping open the option of breaking out into tiers should the need ever arise.

As with any decision regarding architecture one must weigh all of the benefits against the true long term costs when deciding what layers and tiers are right for their unique situation.

It’s my 20th post! Coincidentally I have a bunch of wedding cake (mostly completed except for the third tier) photos to show… a culmination of “hard work” thus far… Hope you enjoy!

This Thanksgiving was really relaxing. I didn’t do much but eat, sleep, and do little craftsy things that I always have going on when I’m at home. After messing around with the snowman topper idea (posted earlier), some feedback and suggestions, I tried my hand at a cake topper that isn’t edible. (I found that molding people out of fondant and gum paste isn’t as easy as they make it look on Ace of Cakes, nor is it as simple to work with as clay.) I found some inspiration at a cute etsy store called “The Small Object…” and sort of worked from there. (She charges 135 for these wedding toppers, min. So I tried to re-create and personalize it.) Here we go:

Ok. So coming back, I wanted to see the entire thing put together (two tiers at least… I haven’t yet gotten around to tackling the 14 in. cake layer…::Shudder::) SoOoO… Here are some photos. I did the 10 in. fake tier in marshmallow fondant and experimented with royal icing. Meringue powder is a miracle invention. Who knew? Anyways… There are two options- the first is little piped dots (which I personally like better, they remind me of snow falling in a whimsical way, but don’t let me bias you) and the second is little piped star-type things. I was going for snowflake but I like simpler better. What do you think? Let me know!

Zum Abschluß noch ein paar “Appetizer”

Tiering your gear is an important aspect of Runes of Magic.  For each tier, you gain stat boosts.  I’ve been playing the game a year and have only tiered a couple items.  I planned on doing more later, but never got around to it…yet.

This is a small guide to help you understand and start tiering your equipment, be it boots, swords, etc…

• For every tier you add to a piece of equipment, you raise that equipments base damage, or defense by 10%.  Taking a hammer, sword, bow, etc… from tier 1 to tier 4 will grant a 30% increase in damage, over base damage.
• To actually change the tier of a piece of equipment, you’ll need to use the Arcane Transmuter that every player gains access to at level 10.  You find it by opening your bag, and selecting the corresponding button below your item slots(It’s near the button that looks like a gift).  You’ll also need to prepare mana stones and fusion stones to complete the process of tiering.  Fusion stones can be bought in-game or through the Item Mall.  In-game you will find vendors selling fusion stones, and the Item Mall sells Purified Fusion Stones.  The only way to gain a mana stone is by creating it yourself from fusion stones or buying one in the auction house.  No in-game vendors sell mana stones.
• The difference between in-game fusion stones, and the Item Mall’s purified fusion stones:

Fusion Stones: All Fusion Stones come with at least one predetermined low level stat and two random stats determined after purchase (note: the two random stats may end up being blank, giving you a Fusion Stone with only one bad stat), so anytime you create a Mana Stone with a Fusion Stone, the best you can end up with is a Mana Stone that has one bad stat in addition to whatever unique stats were on the piece of equipment that you chose to transmute with your Fusion Stone.
Fusion Stones with only one bad stat, meaning your two randoms turned out to be blank, are fairly uncommon, and you will typically end up with a stone that has three bad stats attributed to it.You can imagine that after creating three Mana Stones via the more common Fusion Stones, you could be left with a pool of stats that has nine unique bad stats. This means that regardless of the good stats available in the pool, your equipment will end up with six of the nine bad stats.
The trick here is to make sure that the bad stats are all duplicates of each other, which means that all three Fusion Stones used in creating Mana Stones must have the exact same three bad stats.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy Fusion Stones from vendors that come with the same three specific bad stats; at best, one stat will always be random, and you won’t know what it will be until after you buy it. The best thing you can do is either buy three matching Fusion Stones from the Auction House, or buy a few from the vendor and then try to hunt down two more matching ones from the Auction House. Remember, the stats must be identical in type and tier for them to be considered duplicates of each other; a Stamina I, Stamina II, and Stamina III will not be considered duplicates, and can all be transmuted onto a single piece of equipment.

Purified Fusion Stones: Purified Fusion Stones solve this bad stat problem, by allowing you to create a Mana Stone with only the stats that you want it to have, i.e. those stats on the equipment that you transmute the Purified Fusion Stone with to make the Mana Stone. This way, you can create a pool of stats that only has six great unique stats to draw from, which ultimately gives you a piece of equipment with six great stats.

so you buy the stones one way or the other. You are now ready to create a mana stone. What was all that business about 3 mana stones?  Well When you want to increase the tier of a mana stone which in turn will increase the tier of your equipment, and continue to maintain the stats that you want, you’ll need to do things in 3’s.  Because in order to increase tiers of a manastone to say tier 4, you will need three teir 3 mana stones, and you want them to have all the same stats, so that’s why we talked about using three fusion stones with identical stats.

Let’s say you make your very first mana stone.  You’ll need a piece of equipment, which you will lose, and then you need a fusion stone.  put these two items into the Arcane Transmuter.  You will need to spend charges that you can buy using Phirius Tokens, or bought from the Item Mall.  Phirius Tokens are tokens, same with charges.  No difference in what a charge is whether you buy it in-game or from the Item Mall.  Phirius Tokens are, of course, an in-game currency you get from mainly doing daily quests.

You hit transmute and you get 1 mana stone with the tier that the equipment, you used, was.  You also get the stats from the fusion stone.

If I want to take my tier 3 sword to tier 4, I could use a combination of buying fusion stones from AH and from a vendor to get 3 identical fusion stones(to ensure My finished sword will have the stats I want and expect).  I then can buy any old piece of equipment regardless of what it is.  It could be cloth, plate, boot, belt, etc… The important thing is what tier it is.  I can buy tier 3 items so I will need 3 of them.  I buy them from a vendor, and put on piece of equipment in the AT with one fusion stone, and create a mana stone.  I do this two more times with the other fusion stones and pieces of equipment I don’t want(but have the tier I want), and then I end up with 3 identical mana stones all of tier 3.  That’s why I wanted tier 3 equipment.  The mana stones used that tier.  So now I have 3 tier three mana stone that I put into the AT and create 1(one) teir 4 mana stone.

To finish, NOW I can use the good sword that I don’t want destroyed, and likewise I want the new tier as well as the new stats.  I put the tier 4 mana stone and my good sword into the AT and create a new sword that has gone from tier 3 to tier 4 and has the stats I want.

This process is the same regardless of tiers.  If I want to go from tier 9 to tier 10, I go through this process.  Unfortunately what you will discover, is that you can’t simply by junk equipment that is tier 9, from any vendors in game.  I believe the highest tier is 3, sold by vendors, so anything above that requires creating equipment a tier higher(that will be your junk equipment you’ll lose).  This whole system can become increasingly expensive with all the fusion stones, equipment pieces, and charges you’ll need to make a higher tiered good piece of equipment you want to keep.

Here is a simple item cost for taking what you will need to take an item from tier 3 to tier 1o

To create one tier 10 item(from tier 3):
Requires 6561 fusion stones (~13,122,000 gold)
Requires 6561 pieces of tier 3 equipment (~10,386,063 gold)
Requires 9841 Arcane Transmutor charges (19,700 diamonds or 2,953 days of dailies)

Don’t let this table scare you too much.  Yes if you do the calculations of how much diamonds cost in real world dollars, it can be frightening.  However, I personally have had guild mates who’ve never spent a real world dime, and have achieved tier 10 equipment in around 1-2 months.  There are many finer subtleties to the game than just transmuting, and it’s hard to accurately place value and determine a static value-x-time chart for every player to do this.  Simply, there is just too wide a window of variables to accurately nail this down as to what it will cost you in time, fun, play time, and money(whether real or in-game gold).

As you probably are wondering now, yes, there is a lot of factors that come into play when you consider all the different types of stats in the game that are possible to add to fusion stones.  There are rules to what can and cannot be added.  You can’t have identical stats, for one thing.  I will save the details on stats for another time though.

The number of tiers is also expected to be unlimited.  I say expected because to date(a year after the game started), the first server has just made the first tier 11 piece of equipment.  I don’t even think anyone of my server has tier 11 yet.

I know I went through a lot of repetition and over explaining with this guide, but I feel it is important when trying to grasp the concept and rules for the first time.  Many people have woes about the process, and it can be confusing when trying to get help from multiple sources and reason it on your own.

The system for the T10 gear has been confirmed a week or so back. Its a two step process, greatly simplified from the t8 and t9 method.

First you purchase the T10a using Emblems of Frost, then you upgrade this item with a special drop from the new instances. This means that causal layers can get the base t10 item, but you need the extra drop to get the best item. Basically 251 for casuals, and 264 for raiders.

I really like this. Two levels that expand on each other, and a way to get good gear for grinds, and then better gear when you get lucky, or spend your dkp.

This is the best thing I’ve heard about the new patch yet.

Ein Flughund mit Referenzbild, damit man sieht wo es noch mit der Ähnlichkeit hapert. Gar nicht so einfach wirklich treffend Fotos ohne abzupausen zu “kopieren”. Bisher hab ich noch nicht rausgefunden, was ich beim Abschätzen der Proportionen falsch mache, da feile ich also noch an meiner Wahrnehmung. Ich sehe immer nur erst sehr spät (meist beim fertigen Bild :-/ ), dass irgendwas zu klein ist oder irgendwelche Winkel nicht stimmen.

Ist es nicht schön, ständig einen Freund oder eine Freundin in der Nähe zu haben. Ich rede nicht von einem Menschen, sondern vom besten Freund des Menschen. Mein Hund begrüßt mich morgens nach dem Aufstehen und begleitet mich zum Frühstück. Wir gehen gemeinsam spazieren und kommen gemeinsam nach Hause. Sobald ich das Haus verlasse, um zur Arbeit zu gehen, wartet mein Hund brav und legt sich meistens auf das Sofa oder quetscht sich in den schmalen Sessel.

Es sieht so witzig aus, wenn mein Hund in dem Sessel liegt. Stellt euch eine riesige Schnecke vor, die sich zusammengerollt hat.

Ich komme in der Mittagspause nach Hause und mein Hund steht bereits vor der Haustür und wartet darauf, mich vor lauter Freude anzuspringen. In den meisten Fällen halte ich mich irgendwie, ohne auf den Boden zu fallen. Wir gehen sofort nach Draußen, denn ich habe nicht viel Zeit.

Es ist schön, wenn sich jemand so auf einen freut. Nach der Mittagspause, legt sich mein Hund wieder hin und ich gehe meiner Arbeit wieder nach!

Am Abend rastet mein Hund komplett aus. Sobald es Dunkel wird, weiß mein Hund, dass ich nicht mehr lange auf mich warten lasse.

Er fällt mich an -vor Freude- als wäre ich einen Monat nicht zu Hause gewesen. Es ist ein sehr schöner Augenblick, da jeden Abend das gleiche passiert.

Das Herrchen kommt nach Hause und der Hund freut sich wie ein kleines Kind. Ein Hund ist zwar nicht mit einem Kind zu vergleichen, dennoch ist es schön, wenn man einen Vierbeiner hat.

NEW YORK ?The insurance industry was the second most fraud-prone industry sector behind communications according to a global economic crime survey released yesterday by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

In a massive wide-ranging report based on information from 3,037 respondents, the consulting firm also found that companies in their efforts to head off crime have more than tripled their use of fraud risk management.

At a news conference reporting their findings, PwC executives said they were surprised to find that on a global basis fraud against companies had not increased for those in financially weakened condition. In the United States, however, companies with economic difficulties were found to be more subject to fraud.

Among more than 16 listed industry sectors, 46 percent of communications firms reported an impact from fraud followed by 45 percent of those in the insurance sector, 44 percent in financial services, 42 percent in hospitality and leisure and 38 percent in transportation and logistics.

The numbers represented a slight decrease for the insurance sector, which in 2007 was in first place with a 46 percent fraud level. Sixty-five percent of the fraud against insurers was reported to be perpetrated externally.

PwC?s report said the most heavily fraud-impacted industries were targeted because of their type of product or service. It said these same industries have more robust and proactive anti-fraud measures, so they both suffer and detect more fraud than other sectors.

Due to the nature of their business, ?insurance and financial services have reported consistently high levels of fraud over the last 10 years,? the report noted.

PwC?s 2009 survey also showed financial services as the sector with the largest increase in fraud with 56 percent of respondents reporting an increase in incidents in the past 12 months.

When firms in the survey listed their fraud detection methods, use of an internal audit remained in first place at 17 percent. Seeing a major increase into third place was fraud risk management, with 14 percent of firms listing that as a detection method, up from 4 percent in a 2007 survey.

Steven L. Skalak, PwC partner in forensic services, said more firms now have a fraud risk management group and he noted ?companies that look for fraud are more likely to find it.?

He added that more companies are adopting a risk assessment approach and there is a group in the financial arena that do it on a monthly basis. More businesses practicing risk assessment ?do it more frequently and they are doing it more wisely.?

Almost two-thirds of those firms that sustained economic crime in the last 12 months believed that the opportunities to commit fraud have increased with reduced resources deployed in internal controls, PwC reported.

Asked about the type of fraud they were experiencing, 67 percent of respondents mentioned asset misappropriation, such as inventory theft, 38 percent mentioned accounting fraud and 27 percent bribery and corruption.

Accounting fraud while less frequent is far more expensive to companies, said Mr. Skalak and Sandra Maria Parrado, a PwC director, said there is also the collateral damage from stockholder suits that can result.

Settlements of such actions amounted to $3.6 billion last year and 90 percent were related to accounting fraud, she said.

The PwC studies found that there has been an increasing number of cases being brought against companies for violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with bigger fines and individual prosecutions.

Bribing of foreign officials used to be a low level issue for companies, ?it?s now an issue at the board level,? said Manny Alas, PwC advisory partner.

John Donker, leader of PwC?s Asian Forensic Services, noted that respondents in the survey are often less than forthcoming and ?the numbers typically understate the problem? and for every crime that is uncovered ?there?s one that hasn?t been discovered.?

Mehrmals schon erwähnte ich in diesem Blog, dass ich an dem Dezemberfilm arbeite, zum Thema Zucker. In diesem Zusammenhang hatte ich gestern eine ziemliche Pampe angerührt. Ich würde mal sagen – Konsistenz von Rührteig, sehr süß. Ich habe sogar aus Neugier mal eine Löffelspitze zu mir genommen (und bin nicht ohnmächtig umgefallen): Ja, schmackhaft mit starkem Orangenaroma. Zu mehr lockte es mich aber nicht. Nachdem ich die Requisite also abgefilmt hatte, kam die interessante Frage: Was jetzt damit tun?

Auf meiner Terrasse habe ich mehrere Tiere zu Gast, die keine Haustiere sind: Elstern, Meisen, Eichhörnchen, Igel und einige wilde Katzen. Sie alle zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass sie alles fressen, was ich dort hinlege. Meist ist es Katzentrockenfutter, aber davor ist bisher noch kein anderes Tier zurückgescheut. Manchmal streue ich ein paar Nüsse aus. Gedacht fürs Eichhörnchen, haben aber auch die Elstern schon zugeschlagen. Mein Kollege, der reichlich Vögel füttert, erzählt mir immer wieder, dass die Elstern wirklich alles fressen: alte Pizza, Brötchen, Meisenknödel.

Ich stellte daher eine Untertasse voll mit diesem “Fertigteig” also auf die Terrasse, in den einen Wassernapf füllte ich den Orangensaft (Bio!). Neugierig hatte ich den Camcorder aufgestellt und 90 Minuten aufgenommen. Ergebnis: zwei Fliegen. Hmmmm. Also habe ich die Kamera wieder abgebaut. Dann kam das Eichhörnchen, ah wie spannend: Es schnupperte am Orangensaft, es schnupperte an dem Fertigteig. Dann nahm es ein Stück Milky Way in die Pfoten, spielte damit rum und ließ es  wieder fallen. So ging das eine Weile, bis es von anderen Dingen abgelenkt, kreuz und quer über die Terrasse huschte. In ein paar Rillen zwischen ein paar losen Brettern fand es dann auch noch zwei Walnüsse, die sofort abgeschleppt wurden.

Ansonsten passierte nichts. Wie schade. Da es schon früh dunkel wird, habe ich die Rolläden schon um 17 Uhr heruntergelassen. Die Katzenfuttertöpfchen waren nur halb gefüllt. Ich weiß, dass das nicht bis zum Morgen reicht, aber ich hatte keine Lust zum Nachfüllen. Als ich heute Morgen um halb Zehn den Rolladen öffnete, war ich gespannt: War alles weggeknabbert?

Die Katzentöpfchen waren wirklich leer, bis auf den letzten Krümel. So kenne ich das, wenn das Futter schon mal knapp ist, da lassen die Tiere nichts über. Der Orangensaft war unberührt. Der Fertigteig war unberührt, nur ein Stück Snickers fehlte.

Mein persönliches Fazit ist (ich erhebe hiermit natürlich keinen Anspruch auf statistische Gültigkeit <g>): Tiere, die nicht domestiziert wurden, haben noch ein sehr gutes Gespür für natürliche Nahrung. Was denaturiert ist, lassen sie stehen, selbst wenn nichts anderes da ist. Bei “Hungersnot”, das ist mir klar, würden sie natürlich schon zupacken. Aber ansonsten machen sie einen Bogen darum.

Das ist schon interessant, wenn ich an all die Haustiere denken, die übergewichtig, diabetisch und arthritisch sind!

Dieser Artikel befasst sich mal wieder ein bißchen mit Technik, mit Technik und Ausrüstung. Es ist so eine Art “Aus dem Nähkästchen geplaudert”, wie und mit was meine Natur- und Gartenfotos entstehen. Vor meinem professionellen Hintergrund auch durchaus für den Hobby-Fotografen und Naturfreund als Anregung für den eigenen Freizeitspaß zu verstehen.  Gerade für den Fotofreund, der im eigenen Garten gerne die Singvögel fotografieren würde, denke ich einige nützliche Anregungen zu haben.

Es ist klar, wer sich auf die Jagd nach kleinen Lebewesen macht, der kommt um ein bestimmtes Minimum an Ausrüstung nicht herum. Man sollte da wohlüberlegt vorgehen, denn das Equipment ist nicht gerade billig. Daß es nicht so umfangreich sein muß wie das des Berufsfotografen ist aber keine Frage. Und es läßt sich auch vieles etwas preisgünstiger auch gebraucht erwerben. Doch dazu später mehr.

Fotogepäck für den Naturfotografen

Wer nicht nur im eigenen Garten unterwegs ist, sondern auch draußen in der Natur, der braucht auf jeden Fall ein vernünftiges, gut zu transportierendes Fotogepäck. Meines ist der Lowe Pro Phototrekker. Meiner ist bereits 21 Jahre alt, 1988 gekauft. Die heutigen Modelle sehen zwar etwas anders aus, bieten ein zusätzliches Fach für das Notebook, aber die Grundfunktionalitäten sind die gleichen wie bei meinem alten Modell.  Und noch, en passant, was die teure Ausrüstung langfristig doch etwas preiswerter macht: auch alle meine Linsen sind in der gleichen Altersklasse wie mein Fotogepäck. Auch das 2,8/300 mm von Tamron (ein MF-Objektiv wie meine meisten) ist gleichfalls aus dem Jahr 1988. Kauft man Qualität, so hat man lange etwas davon. Das verstehe ich auch unter “Nachhaltigkeit”. Denn verständlicherweise ist gerade der Naturfotograf kein Freund der Wegwerfgesellschaft.

Was man bei dem Foto oben gleich auch noch sieht: ein stabiles Stativ (bei mir ein Gitzo Reporter) gehört auf jeden Fall dazu. Und für draußen stabiles Schuhwerk. Gute Trekking-Boots. Denn andernfalls wird der Streifzug durch das Outdoor Terrain schnell zur Tortur.

Seit 2009 filme ich auch. Gerade in der Vogelwelt gibt das reizvolle Clips. Das bewegte Bild zeigt die Tiere in Aktion. Man sieht auch im Foto oben, da bin ich noch nicht professionell ausgerüstet. Auch ein Profi, der zuvor nie gefilmt hat, muß erst mal testen, ob er mit diesem Medium überhaupt klar kommt. Als ich Ende 2005 von der Fotografie auf Film in die digitale Welt bin und mir die D2H (preisgünstiges Vorführgerät) zugelegt habe, da habe ich dennoch meine F4 behalten (1990 auch als Vorführgerät gekauft). Um im Zweifelsfall auch weiterhin meine Bilddateien per Filmscanner vom Negativ oder Dia erstellen zu können. Denn daß ein Profi automatisch mit einer neuen Technik klarkommt, das ist keineswegs selbstverständlich.

Eine Empfehlung aber auf jeden Fall an jeden, der auch mit der Handycam auf  Naturpirsch gehen will: auf ein gutes optisches Zoom achten! Mit möglichst großem Brennweitenbereich. Meine Sony hat ein Carl Zeiss Objektiv mit 60-fachem optischen Zom.

Und dann sind wir hier an dem Punkt, wo’s oft in die Hose geht: Nie ohne Stativ! Nicht unbedingt zwingendermaßen vom Dreibein. Auf jeden Fall aber mit einem Einbein oder – noch besser – einem Schulterstativ.

Beobachtungen am selbst gebauten Vogelbad

Der folgende Film zeigt in seiner ersten Sequenz, wie ich von der Terrassentür aus auf Film- und Fotojagd am selbstgebauten Vogelbad gehen kann. Das ist ca. 5 Meter entfernt und mein Standort liegt außerhalb des Fluchtbereichs der Tiere.

Und hier der Clip zum Bau des Vogelbades. Ich habe das ganz speziell für diesen Zweck angelegt. Also in Reichweite meiner Objektive, für Foto und Film. Man muß natürlich dafür sorgen, daß es von den Tieren angenommen wird. Und dazu gehört auch, ihnen einen Ausguck anzubieten, auf dem sie erstmal zwischenlanden und nach eventuellen Beutegreifern Ausschau halten können. Es sollte darüberhinaus möglichst frei im Rasen stehen, so daß sich etwa eine Katze nicht unbemerkt anpirschen kann.

Ich bin Profi und insofern mache ich meine Naturfotos nicht (nicht nur) zu meinem persönlichen Spaß und um mich und andere mit meinen Bildern zu erfreuen. In erster Linie will ich mit meinen Fotos Geld verdienen. Auch das geht mit Vogelbad-Shots. Gerade in diesem Jahr hatten wir das Thema des mysteriösen Finkensterbens. Besonders betroffen waren die Grünfinken. Des Rätsels Lösung waren die Vogelbäder. Hier infizierten sich die Singvögel mit den tödlichen Keimen (aber nur dann, wenn diese Bäder nicht regelmäßig gereinigt und mit frischem Wasser versehen wurden!). Und so gelangte einer unserer Grünfinken auch als Nachrichtenbild in die Presse.

In dem Zusammenhang der obligatorische Hinweis in eigener Sache: Unsere Grünfinken erfreuen sich alle bester Gesundheit! Denn wir reinigen regelmäßig das Vogelbad und füllen es mit frischem Wasser auf.

Die Alternative zum lichtstarken Tele

Daß es nicht unbedingt ein lichtstarkes Tele mit Anfangsöffnung 2,8 sein muß, zeigt das folgende Bildpaar. Ich habe auch selbst noch ein uraltes 400-er Novoflex im Einsatz (siehe linkes Bild). Das hat “nur” die Lichtstärke 5,6, tut aber durchaus seine Dienste.

Und eine solche Optik ist heutzutage zu einem geradezu Spottpreis zu erwerben. Okay, wenn man sie auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt überhaupt noch findet. Denn der Kenner wird eine solche Linse wahrscheinlich nicht verkaufen. Doch es lohnt allemal, sich da auf die Suche zu begeben.

Mitten im ohnehin grauen November ist es passiert. Unser Kater Tiger ist ganz in der Nähe unseres Hauses Anfang der Woche gestorben. Seit Montagnachmittag war er nicht mehr auffindbar, obwohl er als Freigänger ansonsten mindestens einmal täglich zum heftigen Schmusen und Futter fassen vorbei kam. Auch bei den Nachbarn, bei denen er gern gesehener Gast war, vermisste man ihn. Wir liefen auf allen Wegen und Feldern in der Nähe herum und riefen vergeblich seinen Namen.

Bis gestern Abend ein netter Nachbar Tiger vorbeibrachte, der sich zum Sterben in den Lichtschacht des Nachbarhauses gelegt hatte. So hatten wir uns das Wiedersehen nicht gewünscht. Anscheinend war Tiger angefahren worden und hatte sich zum Sterben zurück gezogen. Uns blieb nur noch ihn zu verabschieden und ihm unter der Birke im Garten ein Grab zu schaufeln, das wir mit Herbstlaub bedeckten.

Wir sind alle unheimlich traurig, da unser Tiger wirklich ein sehr liebes Exemplar der Gattung Katze war. Er hatte – wie alle Katzen – seinen eigenen Kopf und kam und ging wie es ihm beliebte. Wenn er allerdings da war und sein Fressen bekam, war er nur noch lieb und anhänglich. Obwohl er auch häufig über längere Zeiten allein zu Hause war, hat er nie irgendetwas angerührt oder zerstört. Er schien mit unserer Nähe zufrieden und wir mit seiner. Dabei hat er uns mit seinem Schnurren und seinem weichen Fell immer gute Stimmung gebracht.

Drei Jahre hat er mit uns in Rostock zusammengelebt, wo wir bereits seine Schwester Kitty, die von einem Spaziergang nie mehr wieder kam, vermissten. Den Umzug von der Ostsee an den Rhein hat Tiger bestens verkraftet und sich anscheinend sehr wohl in unserem neuen größeren Domizil mit Umgriff gefühlt. Nur die Straße vor dem Haus, auf der die vorbeifahrenden Wagen leider meistens nicht die vorgeschriebenen 30 km/h fahren, war von Anfang an gefährlich und ist ihm wohl zum Verhängnis geworden.

Wir vermissen unseren lieben Tiger und werden ihn ganz bestimmt nicht so schnell vergessen.

This elegantly simple cake is white with a vanilla buttercream and covered in a marshmallow fondant.  There were 3 sheet cakes that were made for the guests as well.  One was banana with banana buttercream, the second was strawberry with a strawberry buttercream and the third was a lemon cake with a lemon buttercream.  The wedding was held in Harrodsburg, KY. The topper is a beautiful fresh flower combination of red tulips and red roses.  The arrangement was created by Ellis Florist of Harrodsburg, KY.

Wer mich kennt, weiß, dass ich mich niemals von niedlichen Tierbabyfotos begeistern lasse. Wirklich nicht.
