They made all of their invitations. The guest book was of the groom’s photography. The bride wore a green sash because it’s the groom’s favorite color. Super cute, personal touches throughout. And while I have not been to that many weddings with bands, theirs was by far the best ever.

Well they’re coming back!  Damn, if I were SooYoung, I might’ve pushed Hyoyeon all the way down to the floor, even if we were already on top of the stairs… I mean, it’s Park Ji Heon of V.O.S.… *cries* but he’s married! I like how they automatically call Jessi an ahjumma, they probably already know about her so they don’t bother to pay attention :p On the other hand, Jessica doesn’t care about what they know, she’s more worried whether or not she looks old lol

Okay, back on topic: Five members of SNSD volunteered to work at Starbucks on November 19th. >>Jessica,<< Tiffany, SooYoung, Seobaby, and Hyoyeon  worked to raise money for a children’s charity at the Starbucks cafe and even walked around to promote their cause. SNSD “loves dem keeds!” and worked from 10:00 to 17:00, a seven hour shift! Because of their popularity, their fans supported their cause and they were able to raise tons of money for the organization. I’m sure the fans didn’t mind the 30-60 minute wait for their cup of crack freshness!
Anyway, I was just informed that MBC filmed the girls at work and will air the edited parts on November 30th, two days from now. I wonder how this will compare to the Mnet’s Il Il Cafe (Charity Cafe Event) thing that SNSD did with Olympic swimmer, Park Tae Hwan on January 05, 2008… Oh well, we’ll find out shortly.

I wonder where the hell they are… I know that Park Ji Heon was too busy making a baby and living his married life *cries some more*, Kim Kyung Rok made a single and an album earlier this year, and Choi Hyeon Jun last year was >>busy making some Rain some good music<< for once. Supposedly they’re due for a comeback soon now that they’ve left Empire Entertainment… But makes me wonder why they were on Chinchin on 2009603…

Anyway, a few SNSD members (especially SooYoung) have big crusheson V.O.S. The trio is pretty close/cool with the girls cuz they’d sing their songs in different shows or talk about the girls. They even made a parody of one of their own songs (I forget which one) but changed the lyrics to make fun of TaeYeon’s height! Too bad Youtube took them all down >:[ Below is a cut from a very funny segment off of SNSD’s show, Factory Girl Mobsta Girl. If I had found the whole clip, you could reminice on SooRi fangirling LOL

The popularity of Girls’ Generation has skyrocketed among Russian young people. A growing number of young Russians has become interested in Korean pop culture these days. More than 100 fan cafes dedicated to Korean pop culture have opened on the Russian networking site “V Kontakte” as of July 31. Their membership rosters range from as little as hundreds to as many as thousands of members, as more and more Russians are becoming the fans of Lee Hyo-ri, Rain, Wonder Girls, Girls Generation, 2NE1, 2PM, 2AM and SHINee.

Each cafe features the latest video materials about their favorite singers. Russian fans even vote on K-pop cafe charts every month to pick the best K-pop song.

Many Russians are also big fans of Korean TV shows and movies. They also vote for their favorite shows. Some cafes even offer access to illegal downloads. Cafes dedicated to actors Lee Jun-ki, Kong Yoo, Kang Dong-won, Kim Ah-joong and Song Hye-gyo have hundreds of members. The latest Korean TV shows, such as “Boys Over Flowers,” as well as shows that aired years ago enjoy enormous popularity in Russia.

Many Russian Internet users laud Korean TV shows for their original soundtracks, while others give credit to actors and actresses for their pretty looks. Fans of Korean movies have set up cafes dedicated to directors Park Chan-wook and Kim Ki-deok.

It has been only two years since the Russian youth, who are big fans of Samsung mobile phones, began taking interest in Korean pop culture. Once, many Russians admired Japanese culture, with Japanese sushi being all the rage among affluent Russians. Young Russian women imitated Japanese hairstyles and watched famous Japanese anime films. But recently the popularity of Japanese culture has been on the decline, giving way to Korean pop culture.

College student Anastasya Petuhova, 20, said, “Korean songs are very exciting. The choreography is also unique and stylish. The music industry in Korea is highly advanced because many groups compete for popularity.”

One Korean professor who teaches Korean in Moscow said, “A growing number of students want to study Korean. The popularity of Korean culture in Russia will contribute to the development of both nations.”

Conclusion: Tiffany has been more resilient than we thought thanks to efficient cost control, tight cash management and improved forex. The stock trades at a premium to the sector, which seems justified by its long term growth potential. Despite low visibility in the US and in Japan, we raise our valuation range to $45-47 per share.

Sales down this year but outperforming peers in the jewelry industry
We expect Tiffany to end the year with sales down 9% like for like (-13% first 9months), implying stable revenues in Q4. Comparison base should help, as sales declined by 31% in the US in the last two months of 2008. In addition, sales in Asia Pacific and in Europe could grow double digit in Q4. Japan is the only region where Tiffany does not expect any recovery.
9% decline looks remarkable considering the geographic exposure of Tiffany ( 70% of sales in the US and in Japan) and the cyclicality of the jewelry segment. Why ? Tiffany positioning was probably more adapted to the downturn: 40% of sales consist of products sold at an average price between $200-$700. In addition, the group is growing double digit in Asia Pacific and in Europe where it just started to develop a network.

EBIT expected to decrease by 18%, could have been worse…
Gross margin could decrease by slightly more than 100bp and EBIT margin erode by 200bp to 15% of sales.Tiffany managed to reduce Selling, General and Administrative expenses by 11% in the first nine months, which again looks great considering that only one fifth of SGA is variable. In addition, marketing spending should have fallen double digit, helped by lower media rates.
Adjusted net earnings should decrease by 22%, while reported earnings could increase by 12% due to the impact of one off last year combined with a tax benefit this year.
Cash earnings look better thanks to sharply reduced Capex (€85m) and lower trade account and inventories. Net debt was down to $380m versus $660m a year ago.

Looking for +6+7% growth in sales and low double digit growth in earnings next year.
Notwithstanding reduced visibility in the US, we expect Tiffany to resume growth next year. US retailers are starting to see more stability compared to six months ago in areas such as jewelry or accessories (cf Saks statements) which is encouraging. In addition, Asia Pacific and Europe offer double digit growth prospects owing to the expansion of the store network. Increased square foot could add a couple of points combined with +2% positive forex impact.
Given the high proportion of fixed costs, we expect Tiffany to benefit from positive leverage and EBIT to increase by 12%.

Tiffany trades at 20x P/E based on 2010 forecasts, which is not cheap but justified by its long term growth potential. The group offers long term double digit growth prospects driven by the international expansion of its network in Asia (less than 50 stores excluding Japan) and in Europe (25 stores, half in the UK) coupled with margin enhancement (+500bp upside potential) thanks to increased store productivity and SGA leverage. Our DCF suggests a valuation range between $45-$47 per share.

Two interesting things about this space age superstar: It bears the name of imminent jewellery designer Marcel Boucher and its a mechanical digital watch.

Boucher got his start in the fine jewellery world, apprenticing at Cartier (his wife Sandra was a designer for Harry Winston and Tiffany). In 1936, at the height of the Depression, he decided to launch a collection of bejewelled, three-dimensional costume jewelry brooches with naturalistic subjects.

Boucher died in 1965, but his widow kept the company running until around 1970. At that time Marcel Boucher became a subsidiary of Dovorn Industries, a watch maker.

Which brings us to the watch pictured above. Jump hour (aka direct read) watches displays with numerals like a digital watch, unlike an analog watch which points at the number printed on a dial. They were first invented in the 1880s, had a brief revival in the 1920s, and then were resurrected in the 1970s, when the watch industry was at wits end trying to battle quartz watches and inexpensive Timexes and Japanese imports.

Both Boucher jewellery and and jump hour watches are very collectible today (I sold the one pictured above to a nice man in the Netherlands).

Fun Fact:
Even though he had his own line, Boucher still freelanced for other jewellery makers – including an outfit called Avon of Belleville, which was made in Belleville, Ont. Not to be confused with Avon the cosmetics company’s costume jewellery offerings, Avon of Belleville is signed “Avon” in script or all caps followed with Boucher’s four-digit inventory number.

I Always Thought I’d See You Again: Tiffany

I finally put this song on my mp3 player. I can’t find it on CD anywhere that I have looked, so I am happy to have it on mp3.  It’s kind of a sad song, but lately I have been kind of sad. It is just crazy. I didn’t get any sleep last night at all. I was watching a Jane Austen movie : Persuasion. I relate more personally to this as far as the relationships part. Even though I relate more to Elizabeth of Pride and Prejudice over all. But Now I can relate to Anne. She still has feelings for Wentworth and she is trying to be true to herself. Family aside she is finally sure that her feelings are that of a woman in love. Finally that scheming Socialite  needs to be smacked across the head with something like a bat. I find myself cheering for Anne as though I am at a baseball game and she is trying to get to home plate and she is caught between the catcher: Wentworth’s unknown feelings and possible rejection, and the the third basemen: her family’s persuasion/friends persuasion and other obstacles that could pull her apart from Wentworth forever. I keep thinking if she could only slide home “safe in Wentworth’s heart again, everything will be all better.  I am now reading the book.

But aside from that I felt like crying all day. and so I could only watch part of Persuasion… Before trying to watch the movie though. I was reading a manhwa (like a manga only in the Korean stylization) called He’s Dedicated to Roses, by Hwang Mi-ri.  It is a good story. I love reading all genres of books and it is going into my favorites list. I rarely find a manhwa that I like this much. But I suppose like any good book that becomes one of my favorites, I have to search through a ton of stories that, though I enjoy them, I rarely want to read more than once, until I find one or two that are some of the best that I have read. However there is a downside. I stayed up until 5am, and I cried through part of it. But it has a good ending to it. So apart form my grandmother getting up three or four times last night, trying to turn off the computer screen only to find me still reading, it was sort of uneventful. I am in a lonely/sad mood for some reason I don’t know why  though…. Gonna find a show to watch or something. Maybe kimi ni todoke has been updated.
