It's been a long day

I took this snap at the “India International Trade Fair” The picture was part of the banner educating people about “Tiger Conservation” and was in the Jharkhand State’s Hall. I tried to take the picture from my camera in such a way that it should look like I took the original shot. I hope I have succeeded in my attempt.

Recently visiting Olso, the capital city of Norway, I decided to look at the background information of the city as I wasn’t wow’ed by the scenery. Due to this disapointment I decided to look elsewhere for the wow-effect of this place.

According to Norse sagas, Olso was founded in 1048 by King Harald III of Norway. However, archaeological research has uncovered Christian burials from before the year 1000, meaning that there were earlier urban settlements. My disapointment about this location was the fact that it looked like a third-world “modern” city with little history. I was expecting more a Stockholm look into it. However, from background reading this can be understandable as big part of the city was destroyed by a fire in 1624.

The name “Oslo” originates from the Old Norse and it was probably the name of a large farm at this site. The meaning however has caused much debate. One of my favourite theories (due to my interest of Old Norse) is that Olso used to be spelled as Álso, later becoming Óslo during the Middle Ages. The earlier  spelling suggests that “ás” refers either to the Ekeberg ridge southeast of the town or to the Aesir. In other words, this can be interpreted as “the meadow beneath the ridfe” or “the meadow of the gods”.

After the 1624 fire, Danish-Norwegian king Christian IV moved the city westwards, restored it, and named it after himself; Christiania or Kristiania. This was the name of the capital of Norway since then and until 1925, when the original name “Oslo” was restored. The original place of Oslo, before being moved westwards, is now known as Gamlebyen (Old Town).

One thing I found very interesting was a tiger outside the city hall. For what reason would there be a tiger in the northern europe, where there is no tiger and the animal is not symbolic for power? From background reading it was understood – the city was once referred to as Tigerstaden (the City of Tigers) by the author Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson around 1870. The reason why he named it Tigerstaden was because he perceived this location as a cold and dangerous place. The name Tigerstaden has over the years nearly become an official name, so on it’s 1000-year anniversary tiger sculptures were placed outside the city hall as of celebration.

In more recent times, Olso has started being called Tiggerstaden (the City of Beggars) instead due to the increased amount of beggars and homeless people in the capital. This is probably the reason why the city looks so degraded and poor like a third world country. Apparently police men give money to drug addicts so that they don’t disturb other people. Not something I find very ethical. The picture of “the City of Beggars” later became amplified by the novel Sult (Hunger) by Knut Hamsun in 1890.

What possibly made me believe that Olso seems more like a third world “modern” city was the amount of immigrants there, which consist of 26% of Olso’s population. Honestly, it didn’t feel much like Norway to me.

If you are interested in going to Oslo one day, go there in the summer or during the first months of the year when there will be more snow. Even though Olso didn’t reach my expectations it doesn’t mean it isn’t special. Considering that it is located in a fjord makes it quite an experience; from any location of the city you see a vast sea with islands in front of you. The nature side of the city is breathtaking. The arquitecture is beautiful; there is an obvious mix of old and new buildings, some being of such an equisite design that you become wow:ed, such as the Opera house. Make sure however, to read about Olso before arriving there, so you understand many of the unexpected scenery.

Well well, who doesn’t know those times when you are trying hard to come up with the name of that band you heard yesterday and they where just so great with that one certain song. If you could just remember it and show your friends the youtube video…

But don’t stress out, the tiger is here to help you. On my endless search for new music I had to stumble over this great site:

last.fm

You don’t need to remember all the names of the bands or the albums anymore. You just send your friends a link to your last.fm profile and they are going to realise, that you have the best taste in music.

How does it work?

To make it work, you just have to make a profile on the site, download a program and listen to music. It’s as easy as that.

The program you download connects to your favourite music player, be it Windows Media Player, ITunes or Winamp. All the songs you play with that program get saved and uploaded to your profile and soon you will have your own privatemusic library.

But that’s not the big deal, eh?!

No, because the real fun starts, when you begin to interact with other users. You can see other people’s profile, listen to their music uploads, share thoughts about an artist or just simply explore new music. There is an enormous amount of groups where you are able to interact with other users as well. And based on the musicevery user listens to, you can find another person with just the same taste in music as you have.

Can I have that a bit more bluesy?

The website not only consist of the profiles of each user, but also every artist that gets listened to, has an own profile. And when people scrobble music -as last.fm users name it- that they think is similar, similar artists get created. That way it is very easy to find new music in a certain field.

For example, let’s say someone would like to find a band similar to Survivor, he or she will find out, that Jounrey, Robert Tepper, Night Ranger and Pride of Lions sound similar to them. I never heard of Pride of Lions, but because I like “The Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor pretty much, I might check it out.

Web 2.0 is everywhere

The site is full of ways how users can participate in creating, editing and commenting. From the simple comment on an artist or user page to the biographie of a band, everything is user created content.

But artists can also participate and create their own bandpage, upload pictures, songs and make a close connection to fans.

Obi und ich wollen etwas besonderes in Angriff nehmen: Wir entwickeln unsere erste Anwendung speziell für den Mac.

XCode ist wahrlich keine einfache Programmiersprache, aber wir werden uns einarbeiten (müssen) und bald entsteht ein neues Projekt: Der YouTube-Manager.

Ich hatte schon vor langer Zeit eine Idee. Wie wäre es, wenn man mit einer Anwendung YouTube organisieren und verwalten kann und seine wichtigsten Videos immer mit dabei hat, auch wenn man mal nicht online ist? Dies und viel mehr soll das Programm können. Es soll Videos in einer ganz neuen Art präsentieren, anzeigen und verwalten können. Selbstverständlich mit Login und allem was dazugehört.

Das Programm wird nicht gerade eine leichte Anwendung die man so eben in 2 Stunden programmiert. Unser erstes Ziel wird es sein, alle Funktionen des regulären YouTubes zu implementieren. Doch wir gehen einen Schritt weiter. Wir werden die Geschwindigkeit erhöhen und die kleinen Mankos ausarbeiten, die die Onlineversion von YouTube besitzt. Außerdem werden wir umfangreiche Organisations- und Archivierungsfunktionen implementieren, die so zuvor noch nicht bekannt waren. Features, die wir planen, sind (unter anderem):

• Revolutionäre, geschwindigkeitsbringende Benutzeroberfläche mit Drag&Drop Features und exzellentem Design
• Archivierungsfunktion, um alle seine Favoriten, Abbonements, einzelne Videos oder sogar alle angeschauten Videos immer dabei zu haben
• Bessere Tagging- und Suchfunktion
• Mehrere Favoritenlisten und verbesserte Playlistfunktionen
• Umfangreiche Verwaltung von Abonnements
• Neuartige Kommentarfunktion mit History und vielem mehr
• Verbesserte Administration des eigenen Kanals
• und vieles mehr…

Das alles hört sich ziemlich theoretisch an, und das ist es auch. Es wird allerdings das nächste Projekt werden. Wir werden zusammen daran arbeiten. Das Programm wird mit XCode programmiert und ist nur auf OSX lauffähig. Eine Windows- und Linuxversion wird es nicht geben! Ich habe mich dazu entschieden, regelmäßig den genauen Projektverlauf auf meinem Blog zu veröffentlichen. Sobald das Programm lauffähig ist, wird es höchstwahrscheinlich Weekly Builds geben.

Und jetzt das Wichtige: Das Programm wird komplett Freeware und OpenSource (Lizenz ist noch nicht entschieden)!

Und zum Schluss noch eine wichtige Aufforderung an meine Leser. Wie ihr sicherlich gemerkt habt, sprach ich vom “Programm”, denn das Projekt hat bislang noch keinen Namen. Es wäre nett, wenn ihr ein paar Namensvorschläge als Kommentar hinterlasst. Vielen Dank und schönen Sonntag noch!

For three decades Bal Thackeray has ranted about one issue or the other with dollops of coarse humour to the delight of his flock and the wrath of his detractors . Early in his political journey he realised that to achieve success he needed to exploit the insecurities of the urban, middle and lower middle class Maharashtrians. They had been left far behind by the enterprising Jains, Gujaratis, Sindhis, Punjabis, south Indians and north Indians. The feverish rhetoric of regional identity, he reckoned, would mobilise the Marathi manoos more effectively than the tall talk of progress, secularism and national pride.
And so it is that he directed his ire first at the Madrasis , then, high on the heady brew of Hindutva, at the Muslims and finally against the Bhaiyyas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Time and again the arms he deployed against these communities proved to be lethal: intimidation, threats, harassment and, with growing intensity, raw violence. These were the times when one statement at a Shivaji Park rally, one editorial in the party organ Samnaa, one order issued from Matoshri, his Bandra residence, could shut down Mumbai and send his opponents cowering for cover.
Thackeray had the means, and the gall, to teach a lesson to anyone who crossed his path: a defector, builder, film star, businessman , underworld don or journalist who failed to pay obeisance to the Supremo. In such instances, he showed a sovereign disregard for the rule of law and constitutional niceties. He placed himself on a pedestal higher than the highest court in the land.
That is why he could gloat over his achievements that included the felling of the Babri masjid and the wave of violence he unleashed against Muslims in Mumbai. None of this would have been possible had his declared adversaries, the Congress and especially the NCP, not played footsie with him. But that Faustian deal was Thackerays insurance against arrest and prosecution.
The idyll was too good to last. The deaths of a son and of his wife shattered him. He became more vulnerable when close associates began to abandon the ship. Age, too, had started to take its toll. But what crippled him was the crisis that gripped the family. In the bitter fight between his son, Uddhav, and his nephew, Raj, to take control of the party, Thackeray cast his lot with the son. But the son could simply not match his cousins charisma, organisational abilities, determination or his rapacious ambition.
The result was obvious in the recent assembly polls when the MNS outsmarted the Shiv Sena reducing it to a sideshow. This should have encouraged Bal Thackeray to introspect. He did nothing of the sort. Instead, he chose to revile the Marathi manoos for stabbing him in the back. Later he sought to make some amends. His statement, he argued, was made not in a fit of anger but merely to express a benign patriarchs feelings of hurt over the conduct of his errant progeny. It triggered a fusillade of ridicule.
Hardly had the dust raised by the display of hurt feelings begun to settle down than Thackeray fired another diatribe. This time the target was none other than a national icon: Sachin Tendulkar. The nation , and the world at large, applauded him as a cricketer beyond compare . But India discovered another, immensely attractive side of him when he declared that he placed his Indian identity above his Maharashtrian identity. He took great pride in both but his priorities were clear. Add to this his assertion that Mumbai belonged to all Indians.
Bal Thackeray, ever eager to seize the initiative from nephew Raj, gave Sachin an affectionate earful. The ploy misfired. Sachin has emerged from this episode as an enlightened citizen of the republic, one who bears not the slightest taint of any sort of parochialism and, by that token, represents the face of a modern, selfconfident and pluralistic India. In the process, he has exposed Bal Thackeray the troubadour of communal strife and regional chauvinism and the destroyer of Bombays much cherished cosmopolitan character for what he has become today: a caricature of his former self with nothing but bile flowing in his veins. He cannot, or will not, read the writing on the wall. It says: your time is up.”

And just ysterday we again came across the news that the goons had again ransacked the office of TV news channel IBN Lokmat at VIKHROLI.. When will these goondas ever learn ??

democracy means learning to take criticism in ur stride and responding with words and counter arguments  !!!! and not behave like   common thugs beating up , threatening and intimidating people .

the worst part is that they STILL have  SOO MANY SUPPORRTERS who have CHOSEN to not heed common sense but support these characters  just for the sake of some MISPLACED PAROCHIALISM !!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 27, 2009, Kathmandu, Nepal- The Government of Nepal announced today an expansion of Bardia National Park in the Terai Arc Landscape by 900 sq km, which will increase critical habitat for tigers.

WWF welcomes the announcement, which was made at the inaugural session of the Kathmandu Global Tiger Workshop.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal also stated that the government would establish a National Tiger Conservation Authority as well as a Wildlife Crime Control Committee saying, “The solutions will be area specific, but the future of conservation will depend upon how we act now and how we make tiger conservation and overall biodiversity much more valuable to the livelihoods of local communities.”

“This is indeed a great conservation initiative, which will certainly help in curbing illegal wildlife trade and poaching in Nepal,” said Anil Manandhar, Country Representative of WWF Nepal. “We are confident that by embracing innovative conservation strategies Nepal will succeed in doubling its number of endangered tigers.”

Earlier this year the first ever nation-wide estimate of the tiger population revealed the presence of 121 breeding tigers in the wild within four protected areas of Nepal.  In order to ensure that these tiger numbers remain stable and start to increase, WWF and its partners called on the government to increase anti-poaching activities and habitat protection.

“In making these commitments at a global forum before the 12 other tiger range countries, the Government of Nepal has set an important precedent for others to follow,” said Mike Baltzer, Leader of WWF’s Tiger Initiative. “The next three days of the workshop are vital as countries and tiger experts band together to create a game-changing plan to save tigers in the wild.”

The Kathmandu Global Tiger Workshop is the first in a series of political negotiation meetings occurring throughout the year and leading up to a final Heads of State Tiger Summit in September 2010, which is the Year of the Tiger.

The workshop is hosted by the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal, co-organized and co-sponsored by the CITES Secretariat, Global Tiger Forum, Global Tiger Initiative, Save The Tiger Fund, World Bank.

Harimau Sumatera (Panthera tigris sumatraensis)

merupakan satu-satunya dari subspesies Harimau yang masih tersisa di Indonesia. Keberadaannya hingga saat ini semakin mengkhawatirkan. Kehilangan habitat dan mangsa (Bovidae dan Cervidae) menyebabkan satwa yang hidup di pulau sumatera ini semakin terancam keberadaannya. Saat ini diperkirakan berkisar 400-500 ekor yang masih tersisa di alam (Seidenstiker,1999).

Panjang Harimau Sumatera jantan dapat mencapai 2,2 – 2,8 meter, sedangkan betina 2,15 – 2,3 meter. Tinggi diukur dari kaki ke tengkuk rata-rata adalah 75 cm, tetapi ada juga yang mencapai antara 80 – 95 cm, dan berat 130 – 255 kg. Hewan ini mempunyai bulu sepanjang 8 – 11 mm, surai pada Harimau Sumatera jantan berukuran 11 – 13 cm.

Bulu di dagu, pipi, dan belakang kepala lebih pendek. Panjang ekor sekitar 65 – 95 cm (Direktorat Pelestarian Alam, 1986 ; Hafild dan Aniger, 1984 ; Kahar, 1997 ; Macdonald, 1986 ; Mountfort, 1973 ; Saleh dan Kambey, 2003 ; Sutedja dan Taufik, 1993 ; Suwelo dan Somantri, 1978 ; Treep, 1973)

Belang harimau sumatra lebih tipis daripada subspesies harimau lain. Subspesies ini juga punya lebih banyak janggut serta surai dibandingkan subspesies lain, terutama harimau jantan.

Ukurannya yang kecil memudahkannya menjelajahi rimba. Terdapat selaput di sela-sela jarinya yang menjadikan mereka mampu berenang cepat. Harimau ini diketahui menyudutkan mangsanya ke air, terutama bila binatang buruan tersebut lambat berenang. Bulunya berubah warna menjadi hijau gelap ketika melahirkan.

Habitat:

Harimau Sumatera, seperti halnya dengan jenis-jenis harimau lainnya, adalah jenis satwa yang mudah beradaptasi dengan kondisi lingkungan tempat tinggalnya di alam bebas. Kondisi mutlak yang mempengaruhi pemilihan habitat seekor harimau adalah :

1. Adanya habitat dengan kwalitas yang baik termasuk vegetasi cover sebagai tempat berteduh dan beristirahat agar bisa terlindung dari dari panas dan sebagai tempat untuk membesarkan anak serta berburu.
2. Terdapat sumber air, karena satwa ini hidupnya sangat tergantung pada air untuk minum, mandi, dan berenang
3. Tersedianya mangsa dalam jumlah yang cukup.

Tipe lokasi yang biasanya menjadi pilihan habitat Harimau Sumatera di Indonesia bervariasi, dengan ketinggian antara 0 – 3000 meter dari permukaan laut, seperti :

1. Hutan hujan tropik, hutan primer dan sekunder pada dataran rendah sampai dataran tinggi pegunungan, hutan savana, hutan terbuka, hutan pantai, dan hutan bekas tebangan
2. Pantai berlumpur, mangrove, pantai berawa payau, dan pantai air tawar
3. Padang rumput terutama padang alang-alang
4. Daerah datar sepanjang aliran sungai, khususnya pada sungai yang mengalir melalui tanah yang ditutupi oleh hutan hujan tropis
5. Juga sering terlihat di daerah perkebunan dan tanah pertanian
6. Selain itu juga banyak harimau ditemui di areal hiutan gambut.

Makanan:

Harimau Sumatera termasuk jenis Carnivora yang biasanya memangsa : Rusa Sambar (Cervus unicolor), Kijang (Muntiacus muntjak), Kancil (Tragulus sp.), dan Babi hutan liar (Sus sp.). Kerbau liar (Bubalus bubalis), Tapir (Tapirus indicus), Kera (Macaca irus), Langur (Presbytis entellus),Landak (Hystrix brachyura),Trenggiling (Manis javanica), Beruang madu (Heralctos malayanus), jenis-jenis Reptilia seperti kura-kura, ular, dan biawak, serta berbagai jenis burung, ikan, dan kodok dan jenis-jenis satwa liar lainnya.

Hewan peliharaan atau ternak yang juga sering menjadi mangsa harimau adalah Kerbau, kambing, domba, sapi, Anjing dan ayam. Biasanya hewan-hewan ini diburu harimau bila habitat harimau terganggu atau rusak sehingga memaksa harimau keluar dari habitatnya ke pemukiman atau persediaan mangsa di alam bebas sudah habis atau sangat berkurang jumlahnya.

Untuk memenuhi kebutuhan makannya, harimau berburu 3 – 6 hari sekali, tergantung besar kecil mangsa yang didapatkannya. Biasanya seekor harimau membutuhkan sekitar 6 – 7 kg daging per hari, bahkan kadang-kadang sampai 40 kg daging sekali makan. Besarnya jumlah kebutuhan ini tergantung dari apakah harimau tersebut mencari makan untuk dirinya sendiri atau harimau betina yang harus memberi makan anak-anaknya (Macdonald, 1986 ; Mountfort, 1973).

Masa hidup seekor harimau adalah sekitar 10 – 15 tahun. Harimau yang tinggal di penangkaran umumnya lebih lama lagi, dapat mencapai 16 – 25 tahun (Macdonald, 1986).

Reproduksi

Harimau merupakan satwa dengan tingkat perkembangbiakan yang cukup tinggi. Kematangan secara seksual harimau betina adalah pada usia 3 – 4 tahun, sedangkan harimau jantan pada usia 4 – 5 tahun. Lama kehamilan harimau betina berkisar 102-110 hari Jumlah anak harimau pada sekali kelahiran jumlahnya berkisar antara 1 – 6 ekor, dan bahkan kadang-kadang lahir 7 ekor, tetapi dari jumlah tersebut yang mampu bertahan dan hidup sampai dewasa hanya dua atau tiga ekor saja. Harimau betina selama hidupnya dapat melahirkan anak dengan jumlah total sampai 30 ekor, dan setiap tahun dapat melahirkan anak. Jarak antar kelahiran kurang lebih 22 bulan, atau 2–3 tahun, tetapi dapat lebih cepat bila anaknya mati.

Harimau bukan jenis satwa yang biasa tinggal berkelompok melainkan jenis satwa soliter, yaitu satwa yang sebagian besar waktunya hidup menyendiri, kecuali selama musim kawin atau memelihara anak. Home range untuk seekor harimau betina adalah sekitar 20 km2 sedangkan untuk harimau jantan sekitar 60 – 100 km2. Tetapi angka tersebut bukan merupakan ketentuan yang pasti, karena dalam menentukan teritorinya juga dipengaruhi oleh keadaan geografi tanah dan banyaknya mangsa di daerah tersebut. Biasanya daerah teritori harimau jantan 3 – 4 kali lebih luas dibandingkan harimau betina. Di Way Kambas dalam 100 km2 di dihuni oleh 3 – 5 ekor harimau.

Harimau Sumatera merupakan satwa endemik yang penyebarannya hanya terdapat di Pulau Sumatera saja. Sebelumnya, populasi Harimau Sumatera sangat banyak tersebar, mulai dari Aceh, di daerah dataran rendah Indragiri, Lumbu Dalam, Sungai Litur, Batang Serangan, Jambi dan Sungai Siak, Silindung, bahkan juga di daratan Bengkalis dan Kepulauan Riau. Pada saat ini, jumlahnya jauh berkurang dengan penyebaran yang terbatas.

Menurut catatan yang ada pada tahun 1800 – 1900 jumlah Harimau Sumatera masih sangat banyak, mencapai puluhan ribu ekor. Pada tahun 1978, dari suatu survei diperkirakan jumlah Harimau Sumatera adalah sekitar 1000 ekor dan saat ini berkisar 500-600 ekor. Diperkirakan pengurangan jumlah Harimau Sumatera sebanyak paling tidak 30 ekor per tahun, dengan penyebab utama adalah : Konversi Hutan, Degradasi Habitat, Fragmentasi Habitat, Konflik Harimau dengan Manusia, Perburuan Harimau dan Mangsa.

Konservasi Harimau Sumatera Secara Komprehensif

Populasi Harimau Sumatera (Panthera tigris sumatraensis) di habitat alaminya secara menyeluruh belum diketahui secara tepat, namun dapat dipastikan bahwa populasinya saat ini sudah dalam kondisi sangat kritis.

Tahun 1994 diperkirakan populasi harimau sumatera yang hidup liar hanya 500-600 ekor saja dan itupun hidup tersebar dalam populasi-populasi kecil di Dalam Kawasan Konservasi dan di Luar Kawasan Konservasi. Sementara itu Direktorat Jederal PHKA memeperkirakan setiap tahunnya 30 ekor harimau sumatera mati akibat perburuan.

Kondisi seperti ini apabila tidak ditangani secara serius dan intensif dapat dipastikan bahwa populasi harimau sumatera di alam akan menurun secara cepat dan dalam waktu yang tidak lama akan punah seperti yang telah terjadi pada harimau Bali, Kaspia dan harimau Jawa yang sudah dianggap punah.

Menurunya populasi harimau Sumatera di alam disebabkan oleh banyak factor yang saling mempengaruhi dan terjadi secara simultan. Factor-faktor penyebab tersebut diantaranya, adalah:

1. Informasi dan pengetahuan di bidang bio-ekologi harimau sumatera masih terbatas.
2. Menurunnya kwalitas dan kwantitas habitat harimau sumatera akibat konversi hutan, eksploitasi hutan, penebangan liar, perambahan hutan, kebakaran hutan dan lain-lain
3. Fragmentasi Habitat akibat Perencanaan Tata Guna Lahan dan penggunaan lahan dan hutan yang kurang memperhatikan aspek-aspek konservasi satwa liar khususnya harimau sumatera.
4. Kematian harimau sumatera secara langsung sebagai akibat dari perburuan untuk kepentingan ekonomi, estetika, pengobatan tradisional, magis, olahraga dan hobby serta mempertahankan diri karena terjadinya konflik antara harimau dengan masyarakat.
5. Penangkapan dan pemindahan harimau sumatera dari habitat alami ke lembaga konservasi eksitu karena adanya konflik atau kebutuhan lain.
6. Menurunya populasi satwa mangsa harimau karena berpindah tempat maupun diburu oleh masyarakat.
7. Rendahnya unsur-unsur management pengelola konservasi harimau sumatera.
8. Rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat dalam konservasi alam dan rendahnya penegakan hukum dibidang “Wildlife Crime” telah pula mempercepat penurunan populasi harimau sumatera di alam.

Untuk mencegah terjadinya kepunahan harimau sumatera dan memulihkan kembali populasi-populasi harimau yang berada pada tingkat tidak sehat ke tingkat populasi sehat diperlukan tindakan yang secara simultan dapat mengatasi faktor-faktor penyebab kepunahan harimau sumatera tersebut di atas.

Bioekologi Harimau Sumatera

Harimau Sumatera atau Panthera tigris sumatrae (Pocock, 1929) secara taksonomi dalam biologi termasuk dalam :

Selain Panthera tigris sumatrae masih terdapat tujuh subspesies lain yang juga termasuk dalam spesies Panthera tigris yaitu :

• Harimau India atau Harimau Bengala (Panthera tigris tigris),
• Harimau Siberia (Panthera tigris altaica),
• Harimau Cina atau Amoy (Panthera tigris amoyensis),
• Harimau Indo-Cina (Panthera tigris corbetti),
• Harimau Kaspia (Panthera tigris virgata) yang punah sekitar tahun 1950,
• Harimau Jawa (Panthera tigris sondaica), terdapat di Jawa, Indonesia, dinyatakan punah sekitar tahun 1980, dan
• Harimau Bali (Panthera tigris balica), terdapat di Bali dan dinyatakan punah tahun 1937.

Populasi Harimau Sumatera

Menurut catatan yang ada pada tahun 1800 – 1900 jumlah Harimau Sumatera masih sangat banyak, mencapai ribuan ekor. Pada tahun 1978, dari suatu survei diperkirakan jumlah Harimau Sumatera adalah sekitar 1000 ekor. Setelah itu Sumatera mengalami perkembangan yang sangat pesat antara lain di bidang pertanian, perkebunan dan kehutanan serta pembangunan pemukiman dan industri. Akibatnya habitat Harimau Sumatera semakin menurun yang otomatis berakibat pula pada populasinya. Diperkirakan saat ini populasi harimau di Sumatera sekitar 500 ekor, yang tersebar di kawasan konservasi utama 400 ekor dan di luar kawasan konservasi 100 ekor hidup.

Dari data yang ada terlihat adanya pengurangan jumlah Harimau Sumatera sebanyak kurang lebih 33 ekor per tahun. Dengan kondisi seperti ini maka apabila tidak dilakukan pengelolaan yang intensif harimau sumatera diperkirakan akan mengalami kepunahan dalam waktu sepuluh tahun mendatang.

Hasil survey dan monitoring populasi menggunakan kamera inframerah yang dilakukan dibebarapa habitat penting harimau diperoleh data populasi sebagai berikut :

• Di Taman Nasional Way Kambas: 43-46 ekor, telah terpotret 44 individu,
• Di Taman Nasional Bukit Tigapuluh: 23-26 ekor, telah terpotret 7 individu

Di Kawasan Hutan Senepis-Buluhala: 11-14 ekor, telah terpotret, 9 individu

If there are problems with information in your mailboxes, it may be necessary to reindex your messages. To rebuild a selected mailbox:

For IMAP accounts, locally cached messages and attachments are discarded and the messages and attachments are downloaded again from the server to your computer. Your mailbox appears empty until the download is complete.

The tiger shark is a species of requiem shark and is the only member of the genus Galeocerdo. It has tiger-like markings on a dark back with an off-white underbelly. The tiger shark has a thick and large body with a blunt snout. The first dorsal fin is longer than the second and the caudal fin is pointed and long. Between the 2 dorsal fins, there is a dermal ridge along the back.

Characteristics of Tiger sharks

•    Size: Tiger sharks grow up to 6 m. Their average sizes are about 3 m long.

•    Diet and Feeding habits: Tiger sharks will eat turtles, fish, crabs, mammals, clams, sea birds, other sharks, reptiles and anything else that they can catch alive.

•    Attacks: They do attack people very occasionally and is greatly feared but people are not sought out by sharks.

•    Social Groups: They are solitary animals except during mating.

•    Habitat: They go from the surface to 340 m. They swim in some temperate seas and in tropical waters worldwide. They inhabit both the open waters and shoreline, ranging perhaps up to 500 miles.

•    Distribution: They are found worldwide in warm seas means subtropical and tropical.

•    Speed: They swim at an average speed of 3.85 kph. They can swim in fast bursts but can sustain these high speeds only for a few seconds.

•    Reproduction: They reproduce via aplacental viviparity; the young tiger sharks are born live in between 10 and 82 pups. Gestation takes about 9 months. They are 51-76 cm long at birth and are completely independent.

•    Color-Adult shark: Off-white belly, gray-brown on top and Color-Young shark: Dark stripes on the back.

•    Life Span: Tiger shark’s life span is unknown.

Tirumala septentrionis

The Dark Blue Tiger (Tirumala septentrionis) is a Danaid butterfly found in South and Southeast Asia.

Closely resembles Tirumala limniace, Cramer, but is always sufficiently distinct to be easily recognized, even on the wing.

Expanse: 80-115 mm.

Range

The Himalayas from Simla to Sikhim, into Assam, Myanmar and Southeast Asia; Orissa ; Southern India., the Western Ghats and Nilgiris; Sri Lanka.

Habits

This species is one of the predominant species (78%) during the migratory season in southern India during which many species migrate. Both males and females appear to migrate in equal numbers.

Life cycle

Caterpillar is similar to that of T. limniace . It is said by MacKinnon and de Niceville to feed on Vallaris dichotoma Other species include Cosmostigma racemosa Heterostemma brownii and Cocculus spp

Hello Poptropicans,

So, today we have yet another new Creators’ blog post, the third day in a row of them. This post is called “New Store Stuff!” Quite an original name.

We are crazy busy working on some really awesome Poptropica islands, but we found time to add two more outfits to the Poptropica Store…the Tiger Shark and Swan Ballerina!


SHARK BOY

If you noticed, Shark Boy changed his avatar for this post. You may see that he’s still the same on all the others, so it’s not permanent or anything.

Anyway, this means that you can spend money on a tiger shark and swan ballerina (whatever that is) costume. I think the tiger shark costume looks pretty cool, although that’s probably just because it’s orange, and I like orange.

This post also leaves a few hints about other stuff. Shark Boy mentions how the team is “crazy busy working on some really awesome Poptropica islands”. Yeah, that’s right, islands. Island in the plural form. Multiple islands. ISLANDS! This means that the creators are working on more than one island right now. We know that Counterfeit is one, but what’s the other? Was Reality TV Island not abandoned at all? Are there other islands that they’re working on that we haven’t heard of yet? This is probably the first time that an update to Poptropica costumes got me excited! Reality TV might still be… ALIVE!!!

In der Raubkatzen-Reihe des beliebten Betriebssystemes gab es bisher “Cheetah” (10.0), ”Puma” (10.1), “Jaguar” (10.2), Panther® (10.3), Tiger® (10.4), Leopard® (10.5) und den aktuellen “Snow Leopard”® (10.6).

Wie wird wohl das OS X 10.7 heißen? Lion? Wenn die Markenrechte des bekannten Schokoriegel dadurch nicht verletzt werden, wäre dies eine durchaus denkbare Option. Auch “Sibirian Tiger” klingt nach Apple-Like. Lassen wir uns überraschen.

I love color, I don’t see enough of it. I wish I was artistic enough to be able to bring more into the world. I want to paint, abstract, so beautiful, and probably the only one I could ever accomplish. Photography, is probably my only possible forte. All of the places in the world that I wish to travel to, all of the buildings and landscapes I wish to photograph. It’s so overwhelming, I am more scared of not being able to accomplish any of this in my lifetime, that scares me half to death. Of coarse there are other things I wish to accomplish, remind me one day to make a list on here so I can stick to it. I found a lovely site, it’s purpose is to help inspire you to take certain photos. I have only been looking at their Tilt-shift photography as of yet. "Twinkle twinkle little star.."

… as Pip Squeak has arrived and I am now a little busy with her and Red Ted, I thought I would take the opportunity to “show case” Red Ted Art’s year…

As you remember:

I used to do it all the time with Tiger.  But I can’t recall doing it at all in Snow Leopard or Leopard for that matter.  Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks to everyone who responded.  I have 2 GB of Ram and generally run several programs at a time.  I have had programs crash most often Firefox/Chromium.  That usually happened when I was watching some video other than YouTube.

1. Tehát, vegyünk egy képet, ami vízfestékkel készült, hogy elleshessük róla a trükköket és technikákat. Utána lehetőleg vékony ecsettel vizezzük be a lapot kis részletekben, és vigyük fel a festéket. Igen, össze fog mosódni, ez a lényeg. Meg az, hogy ne legyenek éles kontúrok. Ha vannak, akkor kevéske vízzel ellehet mosni. Szóval így nézünk ki most:

2.  Most ugyanezzel a technikával a szürkés részeket is megcsináljuk. Ahol sötétebb a kép, oda több festék, evidens.

3. Most jönnek a kövek. Ne felejtsük a tükröződéseket, ugyanis ez vizen lenne!

4. Most már jöhetnek a kontúrok. Lehet választani, hogy mivel csináljuk – vízfesték, tempera, tus, filctoll akár – és a legvékonyabb ecsettel dolgozunk (1-es).

Most jönnek a tigris csíkjai. Nembaj ha nagyon PICIT szárazabb az ecset, így legalább élethűbb lesz a szőr, bár ennél a képnél az mindegy, de hogyha egy fényképről készítünk festményt, akkor célszerűbb így. Meg azért ezen se nézne ki jól egy óvodás szintű csíkozás.

Csak türelem és idő kérdése, meg lehet ezt csinálni max. másfél óra alatt, pisi szünetekkel együtt. Aztán pár csinosítgatás, egy-két ecsetvonás, és kész is. Annyira nem hasonlít az eredetire, de gyakorolni jó volt. Íme az enyém:
