Gabby and Tal make amazing tattoo tights and socks that they sell on Etsy (they’re also on Twitter!). I found their stuff through a friend’s tweet and immediately bought myself a pair of these “Follow Me” “stalkings” haha. I admit they make me rather self-conscious and cautious of people who might literally be “following me,” but they’re too much of an eye-catching conversation piece to just keep in my drawer. I don’t regret buying these one bit and chances are I’ll be wearing them to tweet-ups and similarly geeky parties for years to come.

Date worn: 12-1-09

I really wanted to wear these new yellow tights I bought, but I didn’t want to look like I dipped my legs into melted crayons. So, I decided to wear them with my boots (which I love) and my poofy satin skirt. I figured the mix would be biker and girlie. Totally worked. I loved my outfit… Until I got a run in my tights. Grrrr… I was ticked. I used superglue to stop the run, and ended up glueing the tights to my leg and was thisclose to glueing my finger to it too! Thankfully I didn’t.

My roommate Kelli and I are always justifying our purchases with two statement: 1: “It’s SO cheap!” and 2: “I can wear it with so many things!” In the spirit of making ourselves account for these assertions, we decided to undertake the first “How-To” post of sartoriography. We each chose one item purchased at Unique Thrift Store (thereby achieving adherence with statement number one) and attempted to make five outfits with it as our central piece. Here’s what I ended up with out of the following pieces (and a few others that aren’t pictured).

I don’t have much to say today. My sleep cycle is even more off than usual, this combined with heavy allergy medication is causing my brain to feel rather mushy.

Thanks to a suggestion from my sister’s friend Clara I have figured out a way to link my pieces to their websites so all you have to do is click on the thumbnails. No more copy and paste! Suh-weet! Clara is quite the genius.

This look is meant for all the fabulous Christmas parties and events that I hope you readers will be attending. It’s always a challenge to be cool and sexy while still being modest and I think this outfit totally achieves that. I admit that the heels are pretty scary but they could totally be replaced with a different shoe. I just love these because they make me think of ballet shoes gone bad because the straps look like ribbons and… yeah. Like I said, brain mush.

I’m not going to tell you where the pieces come from. You’ll just have to click on the links and find out. Outfit total cost = $129.77

I just wrote a Final exam and I should be studying for my exam tomorrow but I need to record the atrocities that are happening on campus. I was unaware that December was Skank-City Remembrance of Herpes month because the Slut Convention seems to be taking place in Residence and is encroaching my living space.

1) A girl wearing a grey T-shirt, no pants/tights/nylons/leggings with THIGH high boots. Just because your boots come up to your cellulite does NOT mean you can go bare legged. SLUT.

a) Tights b) Coat covers the thighs c) Rihanna is a bitch and has bare legs.

2) Short shorts with lace nylons and flats. You are wearing short hooker shorts that are 1% acceptable in the Sahara desert and zero tolerance in DECEMBER. Just because you’ve added the 5 dollar stripper nylons does not make the outfit classier or more acceptable for CLASS/SCHOOL/WHERE YOUR PREPARE FOR LIFE/LEARNING/SURROUNDED BY ACADEMICS…The flat shoes really pissed me off because I was exposed to entire legs of lace nylon making the shorts look even shorter.

In conclusion, it is December 1, we live on a university campus and you look like a walking advertisement for gonorrhea. “Let’s cover up our vagina (barely) by not wearing tights as pants, and, instead try-out for Pretty Woman – not the one with Richard Gere but the one starring Ron Jeremy. FUCK OFF.

Details:
Scarf – gifted from friend
Black Turtleneck – KMart
Black Belt – NY&C
Skirt – Kohls
Tights – IDK
Shoes aka Witchies – Guess via DSW

Today was all about experimenting, trying new things, and loving the results! I have been inspired by several other very stylish women lately. It seems that everywhere people are belting their longer scarves. I have wanted to try this trend and love how it looked on others and have been very unsure about it. Here are some examples of others doing this here and here. So this morning after I put the skirt and top together, I felt like I needed more color. Bang, this scarf did the trick. it added color and allowed me to try something new. I also felt like I am continuing to be a part of the closet no fear challenge from the ladies over at the B/C Changeover even though it has ended. I received this scarf last January for my birthday and love it, however, I have only worn it a few times. Second, I think of this skirt as a summer skirt and have never worn it in the winter. I think now though it will become a winter staple. Thanks to Kimberly’s inspiration calendar! I pulled this out trying to find that bold skirt to fit the bill. Ok, it called for a dramatic skirt, but bold is all you get from me. I do love the details of this skirt though. I think that the design looks very much like designs on Christmas bulbs. Yay for silver and green circles, they are almost as good as silver bells. It makes me think that I might need to look into getting a dramatic skirt. Also a huge thanks to Kimberly for featuring me not only once, but twice in this month’s inspiration calendar! I am truly flattered.

Lastly, I wore these shoes yesterday. That doesn’t happen very often and I even looked through my closet for a few minutes trying to find another pair that I would like just as much as these for this outfit, and couldn’t. Oh well. They are great shoes. I call them the perfect pair of black pumps.

PS – if you notice that I have been laughing or almost laughing in my pictures lately, it is because Josh has been cracking me up in the mornings when I am taking my pictures. He will stand in the bathroom and say things or try and pose like me. On another Josh note, he was very curious about the belted scarf. I told him it was to keep it in place and it did keep the scarf in place.

I’ll be honest: I always thought Alloy was for the 12-17 age group, but then I started flippin

I’ll be honest: I always thought Alloy was for the 12-17 age group, but then I started flipping through their merchandise and realized that they have a ton of cute stuff for us more sophisticated ladies. I mean, how could you not love this dress!?

Their regularly priced stuff is already reasonably priced, but they have a huge sale/clearance section that is even better. Another bonus: they have a wide range of sizes from petites up to plus-size so it’s a great option for you skinny minnies and us curvier gals. Here are a few of my favorite things (besides raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, of course)…

It’s always good to have some casual cold-weather options besides jeans and what could be better than a hot pair of skinny cords? They come in a bunch of great colors and will look perfect tucked into a pair of boots (cozy Uggs, anyone?) with a sweater for class.

And while we’re talking pants, let’s discuss the cuteness that is a pair of wide-legs. They are the perfect dress-up jean. You can tuck anything into these (a loose fitting top, a white tee, a sexy cami) and you’ll look instantly glamorous.

It’s no secret that I’m a total shoe whore and am especially a sucker for shoes that stand out. These heels are super sexy and the tribal-y print will totally make your oufit. Just imagine how hot, hot, hot they’d look with a sexy LBD. Rawr.

I adore the girly ruffles on this shirt-dress and I’m in love with the idea of pairing it with some textured tights and boots for winter.

I heart BF cardis, especially when they’re in a fantastic jewel tone like teal. Wear it with a tee and jeans for class, or wear it open over an LBD for a chilly winter night out.

I know, I know; it’s December 1st… a bathing suit?!? But hey, you can start planning for spring break (or the hot tub at that ski chalet) or just buy this totally darling bikini as motivation to work off all those holiday treats and cocktails.

This bag is a great everyday tote, but also folds over to become more compact for a night out. And white? No problem! Winter white is gorg.

This top is perfect for holiday parties: it’s festive, it will flaunt your cleavage, but the pleating and loose torso will help hide any tummy you may get from a few too many Christmas cookies.

It’s possible that these great patterned tights would only end up getting yanked out for weekend prancing usage (fair enough) but I’d love to try them out for workwear.

Being the end of November and all, the weather is definitely starting to get a bit chillier. Though i live in a place where it doesn’t snow often or gets too bitterly cold, I can definitely feel a shift in the weather. For the Thanksgiving holiday we headed out to visit the family. Since it wasn’t too far I didn’t think that I would be too cold. Without thinking, I packed items I might even where in the summer. I truly do have a year around wardrobe, thanks to the climate. Throughout this week, I’ve worn four skirts and a dress. Each time I was absolutely freezing. Let’s just say that was no fun. What I was really wishing was that I had been smart and packed some tights and scarfs, two of my very favorite accessories. Oh well, what’s done is done, right? But what I can do is look at some fabulous fashionistas that work these accessories to their full potential and look effortless as they strut the streets.

It seems like everytime I see a picture of Miss Sienna Miller on a celebrity blog she is always looking fabulous! She has the best street style. Her looks are so simple yet fresh. I can see an average women dressing similar to her style and becoming an instant fashionista. I’m really loving her simple flats in both of these pictures. In the look on the left she pulls of the grey tights brilliantly and plays of the color with the striped blouse. She offsets the color of the tights and doesn’t become to matchy-matchy. The look instantly becomes better with the coat she holding in her hand. It brings it to a new level. The scarf in the second look gives her an effortless look. Adding a big comfy scarf to an outfit gives a very chic look. Something that I’m really trying to incorporating into my personal outfits currently.

I have very mixed emotions about Miley Cyrus’s ensemble here. I see the look she was trying to achieve that goes along with her rock and roll persona, that I adore. But the tights were her fault. The rips seem to be too circular and too frequent. The look might of come across different if she picked a hole-less pair of tights or a patterned pair. I love the outfit without the tights though. The bag is the perfect shade of metallic purple and the cardigan and scarf go together perfectly, not to mention the killer boots.

I’m loving Kim K’s looks here. She definitely pulls of the footless tights look. I adore her Rag & Bone and Seven For All Man Kind tights. You may think that a curvier body type may look ridiculous while wearing tight leggings but as you can see Kim’s look flawless. She pulls of the tights-as-pants look great! Don’t be afraid to take the footless tights and pair them with the ankle boot, revealing a strip of skin. Even though I prefer the full take with the boot, this look is really growing on me. I think I’ll be trying it out soon… (For those of you who noticed I marked two red arrows that are pointing to her bag in both pictures. I’m loving it and loving that she loves it too!)

So that concludes our little look back on stars and their tights/scarves. If your out there reading this blog make sure to leave a comment and tell me what you would like to see or just some regular feedback. If you like what you see make sure to keep checking for updates or just email this link to a friend.

Ok, we have a dog, a mutt really, named Lucy. She is a pain most of the time. She steals toys and things that are not hers and chews them to bits. when she was a puppy, I can’t tell you how many pairs of my daughter’s shoes were destroyed by those little teeth!

So for her to do something naughty is not beyond the realm of possibility. Flash back with me, to Thanksgiving, just a few days ago. My daughter was beautiful in a denim patchwork jumper and white cable-knit tights. Really adorable. She went outside to play in the back yard. She knew what she could and couldn’t do out there, i.e., no playing in the sandbox but she could swing.

She had been outside for about ten minutes and came running in, “Mom! Lucy has my tights!’

“What? How did Lucy get your tights?” A brand-new, only worn once before pair of tights, I might add.

‘She took them off of me!’

“Excuse me? LUCY took your tights off?”

“Yes! Lucy took my tights off!’

“How on earth did Lucy, the dog who has no opposable thumbs, take off your tights?”

“I don’t know, but she did and she won’t give them back!’

I went outside and sure enough, the dog is running around playing her ‘chase me’ game with my daughter’s tights. Anna and I cornered the mutt and got the tights back. They were dirty, to be expected, but unfortunately, there was a large hole in the side of the calf. Great. Brand new freaking pair of tights destroyed. She never would ‘fess up to it, but she did get in trouble for it. I don’t appreciate spending money on something like that, only to have her ruin them the second time she wears them.

I’m telling ya, never a dull moment at our house!

Although “Casual Fridays” are slowly – and thankfully – retiring from the corporate world, many women continue to go to the office or an evening out barelegged. Dresses and stilettos may still be in vogue, but where is the legwear? As a career woman who considers tights, stockings, pantyhose, and their cousins de rigueur, I want to take this opportunity to sing the praises of legwear.

I know that some women argue that legwear is as constricting for women as neckties are for men, but I find it liberating. What I wear on my legs is an extension of the clothes, shoes, and accessories I choose to wear. Just as I wouldn’t want to go to work without my make-up, I wouldn’t dream of going to work with bare legs.

The sheer variety of women’s legwear that is available is enough to blow your socks off (no pun intended). There’s something out there for every mood and every occasion. If you’re in doubt, simply peruse one of the online stores that is dedicated to providing women with high quality products. When you do, here’s what you’ll find:

Tights: Today’s tights come in an incredible variety of fabrications, from warm wools to velvety cottons to silky microfiber blends. You can find fashion tights in dozens of colors and prints that can complement every outfit in your closet. Whether you want to ward off a winter chill or show some spunk in the summer, tights are a wonderful way to express your fashion sense and your sense of style.

Pantyhose: There’s little question that pantyhose put the finishing touches on any outfit. From ultra-sheer to opaque, from neutral colors to brazen hues, from industrial reinforced toes to shimmery gossamer, pantyhose can reflect your mood, your apparel, or your aspirations.

Thigh-Highs: If you love the silky feeling of hose against your legs but don’t want to bother with either garters or the panties in pantyhose, holdups are exactly what you need. Whether you choose wide lace bands or soft silicone tops that lay flat against your skin, thigh-highs will never let you down.

Stockings: The allure of stockings is legendary, not only for the men they attract but for the feelings that women have when they wear them. Stockings and garters are the ultimate in femininity, but when you go one step further and choose a silk stocking, you’ll never go back. Wearing stockings is like being privy to an inside joke…. No one else need know you’re wearing them, but they will bring a smile to your face all day long.

Body stockings: Some women would never dream of buying body stockings, but that’s likely because they’ve never worn them. Granted, they may not be appropriate for every occasion, but like stockings, they will make you feel both chic and sexy.

When there are so many options available to complete your outfits and make you feel good all under, leaving your legs bare is a crying shame.

In this season, hosiery is one of the things that I wear almost everyday. Not to mention that it is comfy and just simply looks great under the skirt or dress, along with your flats, booties or boots. American Apparel has a lot of hosiery selection for hosiery lover. There’s vibrant colors with shimmer hosiery for girls who dare to stand out, detailed design like polkadots and spirals can add some sexiness of the overall look, and even two color pantyhose that would definitely catch people’s attention as you walk by.

Ofcourse I wouldn’t miss American Apparel’s hosiery collection as I am a hosiery lover! The following are the ones that I got from AA.

Fashion. As far as fashion goes in Korea, we now know why Korea doesn’t have a fashion capital like

Fashion. As far as fashion goes in Korea, we now know why Korea doesn’t have a fashion capital like New York City, Tokyo, Milan or Paris. Although they might dress well in Seoul, the rest of Korea has a distinct fashion. Let’s start with the men. Korean men love shiny suits and sparkling ties. The men here are so slim anyway that their skinny jeans and tight-fitted suits make them look thinner than the girls. Men also wear the high-top Reebok shoes with the skinniest pair of jeans.

Another fashion statement is the ‘Konglish’ and Mickey Mouse shirts. Randy bought a shirt that says “Slow Life.” Some shirts just don’t make sense. Sometimes kids will wear shirts that they have no idea of the meaning, even though it may have a curse word. I think they buy the shirt because it has English. Both men and women wear baggy Mickey Mouse t-shirts. I’m not sure what the obsession about the Disney character is, but they love it. And of course, they love anything with Hello Kitty or any other Sanrio character.

As for the women, looks are very important. There are two types of looks that women go for. Some women dress to the tee every time they go out, whether it is to work, school or the grocery store. They wear short skirts, high heels and ruffle blouses. They always carry a mirror and make up with them. As in some parts of the states, some women here must have the latest designer bag or shoes.

The other type of style that women wear is the baggy t-shirt and stirrup tights. I’m not sure if they think it is flattering or if they think they should be as conservative as possible and cover their whole body with a large piece of cloth. In addition to the garbage bag look, they wear converse shoes with tights or skinny jeans.

My take on the fashion. Some of the fashion has grown on me. I’ve always liked ruffle shirts and high heels. It’s taking me more courage to wear the short skirts though. And surprisingly, I like the skinny jeans and tights (not stirrups, these still make me feel like I’m in the early 90s) and the long shirts (not the huge garbage bags). But, I will not be caught wearing Converse shoes with skinny jeans. But, one unique item for shopping in Korea are their shoes. Korea is shoe heaven! There are so many shoe stores and each store has a huge variety of the cutest shoes. And they are for reasonable prices! For my first month here, I bought four pairs of shoes (two flats, tennis shoes and heels) for under 50,000 won, which is equivalent to about $45 USD. Unfortunately, for some westerners, it’s hard to find shoes here because the shoe size here doesn’t go past size nine.

Attitude by Amanda.

A couple years back, I never thought I’d see the return of leggings. For years we’d laugh at those who were still stuck in the 80’s legging/tunic frame of mind while secretly wishing we could return to the spandexy comfort of those tight-fitting beauties. When they came back on the scene a few years ago I didn’t run to the nearest American Apparel to buy a pair of cheaply made $50 tights without feet. Oh no. I simply dug into my dance drawer.

Good dancewear is made to withhold a lot: rolling around on the ground, falling, being crumpled up into a ball and thrown into a dance bag, leaping and bounding. And good dancewear is made to last. While it may be slightly more expensive, it’s guaranteed to take a beating and still perform. Here are three of my leg wear favorites that make daily appearances in my everyday wardrobe.

1.) Leggings by Body Wrappers ($22.50)- These are hands down the best leggings you will find anywhere. You can wash and dry them, work or play in them and they will never stretch out, bag in the knees or lose their shape. As a matter of fact, I’m still wearing a pair I’ve had since college (1998) even though they’re more of a “dark gray” these days. 100% cotton/spandex available in black, white and navy. Also available in low rise.

2.) Compression Tights by Danskin ($11.50)- These tights used to be called “Too Pretty to be Support” but I think Danskin finally wised up and changed the name to “Compression Tights.” Either way, they are style #212 and are fabulous tights. I’m on my feet all day long and the slight compression keeps my legs comfortable and spider vein-free. I also love the feel of the tights and that they don’t get “stuck” on cotton skirts and dresses. Nylon/lycra, available in black, pink or toast.

3.) Fishnet Tights by Capezio ($19)- I know, I know. 19 bucks is a lot to spend on a pair of holey tights. But these are absolutely worth it as I’ve had the same pair for 5 years and they are just starting to show signs of wear. I love these fishnets because they’re tough as hell and won’t get snags, no matter what boots you wear or sidewalks you trip on. The soles of the tights are flat so they’re super comfortable inside your shoes and since the spandex is so strong, it’s like a built in control top. Best of all, they make your legs look awesome. 80% nylon/20 % lycra-spandex, available in black or caramel.

All of the above leg wear can be purchased through http://www.nydancewear.com. NY Dancewear is a wonderful company that I’ve supported for years. They are incredibly helpful and can answer any questions you might have about sizing. I’m happy to continue to give them my business.
