My mum and I bought tickets for the Tim Burton Exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. We are going on December 21st. It’s going to be a great day.

I attended the Harry Potter Exhibition at the Boston Museum of Science on October 25th. I cried three times it was so amazing. It was my favorite memory of 2009. Both of my parents came with me (most of my friends are too “cool” for Harry Potter) and we really bonded among all of the magic wands and costumes.

Now if only I could talk my parents into giving me some cash to go to The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter in Orlando this Spring. Well, I can dream can’t I?

This should be awesome. Tim Burton’s exhibit just started this past Sunday, the 22nd, at the MoMA. We’ll be there this weekend, come by for a good time and some creepy art. Here’s a behind the scenes look at the exhibition and how it all came flying out of Tim Burton’s head:

Se tem no mundo uma exposição que eu amaria ver essa é a exposição do Tim Burton no MOMA NY. O que é esse túnel com esse personagem estranho, clássico no trabalho lúdico e melancólico do diretor, que sem nenhuma dúvida é um dos meus diretores preferidos. E por esse túnel vc embarca por todo o universo das criaturas e cenários que só ele consegue fazer, passando por todo o seu repertório, entre peças originais dos filmes, estudos e muitas ilustrações do próprio Tim Burton. Mais do que merecida essa homenagem que ainda contou com Johnny Depp em sua abertura, que eu falei aqui esses dias, fazendo um discurso cheio de afeto para o seu BFF. LOVE Tim Burton!

With?

Technically with the girlfriend, but she was asleep.

Why?

It was a movie that completely passed me by on its initial release…and DVD release…and every time it was on TV. So I figure I should give it a shout, no doubt it will be filled with the typical Burton-isms but you can usually rely in Depp putting in a decent performance.

Worth It?

Well it took up 100 minutes of dead time, and I don’t remember not liking it whilst watching it. Yet, it wasn’t what I would call memorable, to the point that I finished watching it about 40 minutes ago and I’ve already forgotten a lot of it.

As usual, Depp was pretty good albeit restrained, and the rest of the cast didn’t do a bad job. Apart from Casper Van Dien, but then I can’t blame him too much considering he lacks any acting ability anyway.

The gore was good, Walken was great, and the film was fairly forgettable. Definitely a Sunday afternoon post-roast movie.

KARP: a gift to last

Toronto photo artist May Karp gifted 22 pieces to TWH. Karp’s uplifting photography is already on view in a number of Canada’s larger hospitals. In 2004 she donated 27 framed images for Toronto General’s new Surgical Centre waiting room, adding warmth and a new visual focus for the families of surgery patients. After seeing the impact of her photography in the Surgical Centre, Tennys Hanson, President and CEO of Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation, asked her to consider a similar project for Toronto Western Hospital. “Hospital waiting rooms are for patients, sometimes for their relatives or friends,” Karp notes. “Most visitors are frightened and anxious. Time passes very slowly as they wait for results or treatment. One can almost ‘taste’ the emotions. Over 20 years ago I spent a lot of time in rooms like this. I experienced all the emotions many times since then.” Which is why her colourful, eye-catching and blissfully distracting works are brightening TWH this morning.

The master of the cool, cruel, and creepy finally had his MoMA début on 22 November 2009, when Tim Burton unveiled his retrospective at the renowned Museum of Modern Art in New York.  Explore the mind of Tim Burton through the ages, showcasing every detail of his sketches, drawings, paintings, short films.  If you’re in New York from 22 November 2009– 26 April 2010, this exhibit is not to be missed!  Take part in this pop cultural experience, moving through the distorted, unsettling, and disturbingly surreal world of Tim Burton.

I can’t wait for Alice in Wonderland to come out.

Why would Tim Burton be a perfect choice of director for “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”? It’s very simple. His dark vision of his other films matches the same style as the Twilight series. Just watch films like “Edward Scissorhands”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Sleepy Hollow”, etc. They all have a similar vision to “Twilight”.

Not only that, Tim Burton also has a very huge dedicated following of young fans from tweens to young adults who follow Tim Burton’s movies. Tim Burton also has many full-grown adult fans as well.

If Tim Burton directs, “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”, he could bring all fans together which will be a film for all ages to enjoy. Imagine Tim Burton giving a cameo for Helena Bonham Carter his wife for “Breaking Dawn”, maybe even give Johnny Depp a small role as well.

I hope Summit Entertainment studios does the right thing and sign Tim Burton to direct the final installment. I’m positive Tim would make a very good Twilight movie and he would probably do the best job at it. It would be a mistake if Summit doesn’t get him.

Tá rolando lá no MoMA (Museu de Arte Moderna) de NY uma retrospectiva da obra do cineasta e artista plástico Tim Burton. Na mostra, além da exibição de filmes, estão as telas, desenhos, gravuras, textos e fotografias do mundo mágico de Tim, o cara que inovou o cinema com suas histórias fantásticas como Edward mãos de tesoura e A lenda do Cavalheiro Sem Cabeça. Será que vem pro MAM? hahahahaha. M e u s o n h o!

Dommage… C’est à NY qu’il faudra se déplacer pour cette expo du célèbre Tim Burton, du 22 novembre 2009 au 26 avril 2010 au Moma.

Most main characters met in the story are represented by a chess piece, with Alice herself being a pawn. However, the moves described in the ‘chess problem’ cannot be carried out legally due to a move where white does not move out of check (a list of moves is included – note that a young child might make this error due to inexperience).

Although the chess problem is generally regarded as a nonsense composition because of the story’s ‘faulty link with chess’, the French researchers Christophe LeRoy and Sylvain Ravot have argued that it actually contains a ‘hidden code’ by Carroll to the reader.

The code is supposed to be related to Carroll’s relationship with Alice Liddell, and apparently contains several references to Carroll’s favorite number, 42.

The theory and its implications have been criticized for lack of solid evidence, misrepresenting historical facts about Carroll and Alice, and flirting with numerology and esotericism.

Oh, no, not esotericism. I simply cannot brook such a thing.
