Éxito, una fuente de ingresos suculenta a pesar de estar explotando a un menor y cambiándole la vida para siempre. Justin Bieber es un chaval de apenas 15 años que acaba de sacar el disco que le proyectará, como a los personajes de Verne, hacía la cima del volcán. Se llama “My World” y su primer single es “One Time”.

Bieber comenzó a darse a conocer a los 13 años, de la mano de una madre orgullosa que colgaba los vídeos del menor cantando en YouTube. ¿Por qué no decirlo? El chico tiene talento y además es guapete.

Así que no es de extrañar que del ámbito familiar (por decirlo de algún modo) diera el salto hacia un círculo más amplio en el que muchas jovencitas comenzaban a seguirle y a quedarse prendadas con su estilo (en el disco recuerda al R&B americano).

El paso siguiente estaba claro: las discográficas se fijaron en él. Concretamente el promotor musical estadounidense Scooter Braun convenció a madre e hijo para desplazarse a Atlanta para comenzar a desarrollar su carrera.

Fue entonces cuando Usher y Timberlake comenzaron a competir por ver quién se quedaba con la nueva fuente de beneficios. Ganó Usher y la discográfica del pequeño Bieber encargada de lanzar este primer álbum ha sido Island Def Jam Records.

Su música va dirigida a los jóvenes entre 10 y 14 años, por lo que tendrá que competir con artistas como Miley Cyrus o los Jonas Brothers. Sin embargo, de momento ya tiene una partida ganada, ya que ha conseguido que los cuatro sencillos que salieron antes del disco se posicionaran entre los 40 primeros temas de las listas de Billiboard Hot 100’s, algo que, hasta ahora, nadie había conseguido.

Además, Bieber consiguió atraer a más público a la plaza Rockefeller de Nueva York en una actuación para “The Show Today” que el que consiguió Cyrus en el mismo sitio. Ahora solo queda esperar a ver si consigue superar los 4 millones de discos que vendió Miley en su primer álbum o los 8 millones que los Jonas Brothers vendieon son sus tres primeros discos. Lo que sigo sin tener claro es si es una guerra en la que va a tener algo que decidir.

Primeiro, vou deixar claro o que é isso. Todos os dias que saimos, seja pro shopping, supermercado, casa do tio, da vó, clube, bordel ou boate, sempre nos deparamos com música de má qualidade. Música de má qualidade? Funk Carioca, Pagode, Axé, Psy, Emocore, (new) R&B, entre outras coisas. Nós roqueiros não gostamos disso. Enquanto o mundo está ouvindo Rihana, Cláudia Leitte, Ivete Sangalo, Alexandre Pires, NxZero, Fresno, Paramore, Justin Merdalake, nós estamos ouvindo Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix etc…

Não somos todos igual, óbvio, a maioria ouve Guns n’ Roses, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, The Clash, Judas Priest, Nirvana, etc… Mas nem sempre todos gostam…

Mas, porém, entretanto, o objetivo dessa série é apresentar ao mundo a classe mais eclética do Rock N’ Roll. Você, psyzeiro, funkeiro, pagodeiro, emo, fãzinho de coisas da Disney, axezeiro ou qualquer outra coisa, já ouviu Red Hot Chili Peppers?? Bom, pra você ver como essa banda é tão eclética, a comunidade contra Red Hot no orkut tem 190 membros, e metade disso são fãs mandando esses viados que não gostam tomarem no rabo (não digo isso tudo por ser minha banda favorita, e sim por ser bom mesmo).

O objetivo dessa série então é tentar mostrar aos adolescentes modinha de hoje que existe muita coisa boa que eles deviam ouvir.

Kolejny wpis o salsie miałem już w zasadzie ochotę popełnić po sobotniej imprezie u nas w domu, na której jako jeden z dwóch mężczyzn tańczących salsę (do tego ten bardziej doświadczony, o dziwo ) miałem przyjemność zatańczyć z większością obecnych na imprezie dziewczyn (z niektórymi po raz pierwszy, ale mam nadzieję nie ostatni Magdo!). Doświadczenie to mogę określić tylko jednym słowem – boskie

Jak zapewne domyślacie się po takim wstępie, moja miłość do salsy nie dość, że nie przygasa, to wręcz rozkwita na dobre. Na parkiecie czuję się coraz lepiej, wreszcie przechodzi mi strach przed proszeniem do tańca nieznanych mi kobiet – generalnie i lekką dozą kryptoreklamy – I’m lovin’ it!

Many Floridians of all ages have heard of Justin Timberlake. Not only is he known as a Grammy award winning singer, but for those of us who watch Saturday Night Live, he’s also just a great entertainer. But with all the niceties that come with the fame and fortune JT has earned, and in my opinion deservedly so, there is a downside. On Friday a judge granted JT’s request for a restraining order against a woman who, according to Reuters, broke into his Los Angeles home.
That most recent incident happened on Thurday, but two other times back in June security guards had to turn away Karen McNeil  from JT’s pad. On Friday a judge ordered McNeil to stay at least 100 yards from Timberlake and his property. One can only imagine how effective that will be…

Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment have both put a foot in on the boat that is VEVO. And now VEVO looks set to sail into the bright horizon as investor Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) pumps in a strategic investment, declaring itself a shareholder and a big part of this venture.

VEVO is branded as upcoming state-of-the-art music video and entertainment service powered by YouTube, with music content exclusively provided by UMG and SME, whose artists include Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, and Lady Gaga for the former, and Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and the late Michael Jackson for the latter. VEVO is the next natural step in the long-term rollout of digital plans, according to the shareholders. “It illustrates our partnering approach with innovators in digital media services and technologies,” says H.E. Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazroui, Chairman of ADMC.

Rio Caraeff, CEO of VEVO, seems to have big plans up his sleeves. Having dealt with digital c ontent for 4 years in Universal Music Group and another 3 years in Sony Pictures Entertainment before that, Caraeff seems determined to steer the entire industry in the digital direction.

However, reticence to embark on digital projects is something the labels cannot seem to shake off. Red tape, protocols pertaining to physical products, inertia to recognize the obvious dawn of the digital age, are just some of the things that prevent labels from investing in the right research to find a digital music business model. Though Universal Music had led the way with their fondness for little digital projects all over the world (read: UMG-Webtv Europe’s deal in 2004, UMG and UK telco Orange’s mobile music deal in 2009, UMG and Singapore leading telco Singtel’s mobile music deal in 2009, UMG and Virgin Media’s ongoing deal, among others), impact made on consumer trends are arguable, and besides, none of the other labels seemed to have taken notice of what UMG has been doing. Or, rather, they probably could not care less.

Sony Music has apparently, however, woken up from the deep slumber caused by the messy and very recent separation from Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), and has expressed interest in foraying into the digital music market. Just a few days ago, it was announced that Sony’s electronic arm has involved itself in a project called “Club Dates”, which is in fact a series of digital concerts planned to encourage music lovers to embrace what Sony calls “alternative content”. Concerts filmed ‘live’ will be shown on the various Sony platforms, including its 4K digital cinema projectors. The first act called upon to headline the series is none other than the band Third Eye Blind, whose latest album “Ursa Major” received the major honor of #1 Digital Album on the Billboard charts. Aside from “Club Dates” and the gentle stakeholding duties that are called upon by VEVO, Sony Music has yet to prove its interest in the global digital market.

As I type, Virgin Media and UMG have yet to reach a conclusion on what “unlimited DRM-free” downloads should mean. It seems simple – downloads that are untethered and are available readily without clauses in your contracts. Yet it isn’t really all that easy to implement. The question now remains: how can the labels protect their content and yet embrace a digital world completely?

TLC (T-Boz and Chilli) have reunited for a hot minute after a 7-year gap to perform at Justin Timberlake’s concert in Las Vegas. The twosome came out in full force to sing some of their biggest numbers including “No Scrubs,” “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg” and “What About Your Friends?” There are no rumors of a reunion, but the two did it as a favor for Justin Timberlake. The show, benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children, also featured sets from Alicia Keys, Ciara, Snoop Dogg, Taylor Swift, Jay Sean, and Timbaland.

It’s always fun to reminisce on past looks, and wonder if they would work today. Justin Timberlake was definitely a teen-pop sex symbol when he was 17 and 18 years old.

I can remember when those pull over jackets were in style, but I don’t know about those cowboy pants! These looks are a sign of the times, and I would love to see someone try to pull it off today!
