Thanks to Alison Dow over at Headlines and Deadlines I’ve been experimenting with Dipity TimeTube today. Now to persuade the powers that be that it deserves a place on our site, despite not being ‘our’ content. For some reason I can’t get it to embed here (working on it!) but in the meantime, follow the link!

And another great excuse to use Dipity… this time it’s the TimeTube application that I’m trying out. This has taken all the YouTube videos with the keywords I selected (La Princess, La Machine) and worked it into an embeddable display of videos.
This is a really nice way of displaying the giant spider videos in one place – I’m going to try to embed it on the live blog now; fingers crossed it works.
I’ve used the small format of TimeTube here for display purposes – the customary larger embed was also available but I found when I posted the Everton FC Timeline here it didn’t display well on the blog because of all my ‘furniture’.

Von YouTube bis YouPorn

Aktuell ist der Video DownloadHelper kompatibel zu mindestens 300 Websites, welche Videos hosten. Die Liste dürfte aber eher noch größer sein, denn jeder auf .flv oder .avi endende Link ist für das Addon ein gefundes Fressen.

Die großen Video-Portale wie YouTube, Google Video, MySpace, Clipfish oder DailyMotion funktionieren – aber auch Redtube, YouPorn und Dutzende vergleichbarer Inhalte arbeiten mit dem Video DownloadHelper zusammen.

Gehen Sie auf die Seite http://www.vidohe.com/sites.php , wo Sie sich die derzeit zur Verfügung stehenden Videoportale ansehen können.

Nach der Installation und einem Neustart des Firefox platziert der 277 Kilobyte kleine Video DownloadHelper ein Icon in der Befehlsleiste des Browsers. Wann immer von jetzt an auf einer Website herunterladbare Inhalte zu finden sind, bewegt sich das Icon.

Sobald Sie dort klicken, listet das Addon Ihnen alle gefundenen Videos auf und mit einem weiteren Klick können Sie bereits den Download der Datei beginnen. Wenn Sie das Video mit gedrückter Strg-Taste anklicken, wird der zugehörige Link in die Zwischenablage kopiert – so können Sie beispielsweise einen externen Download-Manager füttern.

I haven’t noticed any search engines which specifically concentrate on chronology of events. Recently I stumbled upon this youtube mash-up http://www.dipity.com/mashups/timetube created by Dipity , a bunch of folks who wish to send everyone and everything on web2.0 into a time-line. Alas, when i searched for the twitter timeline the results retrieved were timelines of a few ppl’s tweets and youtube videos for the query ‘twitter’.  I think this idea can be tweaked into more interesting applications. 

I hope to resume this post later with a brilliant idea which exploits people’s obsession with time.  

Vi siete mai chiesti quale se un video YouTube sia più recente di un altro? A rispondere a questa domanda è TimeTube, un sito sviluppato da Dipity, sito Internet già conosciuto per la creazione di TimeLine, “linee di tempo”.

TimeTube permette infatti di visualizzare i video di una determinata keyword in ordine cronologico. Per disporre i video in ordine cronologico, basterà inserire una o più parole ed effettuare la ricerca, appariranno poi i video YouTube nella modalità scelta. TimeTube è ovviamente aggiornata in tempo reale, grazie all’utilizzo delle Google Api.

Time Tube allows you to track the history of videos, linked by keywords, on a visual timeline. I’m not sure if there are any applications for this beyond search or cool-time-wasting, but certainly can track the progress of a search terms, news item or portable film festival.

Ultima “jucarie” din seria mash-up-urilor peste care am dat este TimeTube, o amestecatura intre YouTube si Dipity (o aplicatie care creaza la cerere si comanda axe ale timpului pe diverse subiecte). O cautare pe un anumit cuvant-cheie (cum ar fi Reamonn ) va avea ca rezultat o axa a timpului cu toate videoclipurile legate de numele respectiv de pe YouTube. And there you have your timeline!
