Ein weiterer Beitrag in meiner Sammlung der Twitterbeiträge.

Lange habe ich nach dem passenden Twitter Client gesucht. Auf dem “normalen” Rechner ist es ohne wenn und aber Twitterfox. Doch was soll ich nutzen wenn ich unterwegs bin? Ich habe kein iPhone und auch kein Blackberry. Beides schicke und auch nette Gadgets doch man muss nicht alles haben.

Doch ein Handy nenne auch ich mein Eigen.  UMTS-Flatrate sei dank, brauche ich mir auch keinerlei Gedanken um Datenvolumen und / oder Verbindungszeiten  zu machen. Doch wie nun twittern?! Die internen Browser der Mobiltelefone sind im Normalfall für nichts zu gebrauchen. Vielleicht mal eben ne Bahnverbindung bei der Bahn raus suchen – aber selbst das grenzt schon an Masochismus.

Nun unterstützt (fast) jedes Handy inzwischen Java. Mal mehr, mal weniger. Doch solche Handys können mit einem Twitter Client nachgerüstet werden. Mein erster Versuch war TinyTwitter. Annehmbar aber mit Problemen und nicht sonderlich komfortabel. Das störende an TinyTwitter ist allerdings, dass es bei Tweets mit deutschen Umlauten zu Problemen kommt, mehrere Zeichen verschluckt werden etc. pp.

Auf meiner weiteren Suche habe ich Twibble Mobile entdeckt, welches ich jetzt schon seit einigen Programmversionen in Benutzung habe und auch schon anderer Twitternasen für begeistern konnte.

Twibble, ein feines Stück Software, nicht in einem amerikanischen Hightech-Schmelztiegel (Garage) entstanden sondern in Deutschland.

Twibble, der Client der Tweets, Replies und Direkt Messages in übersichtlichen voneinander getrennten Ansichten zeigt, Suchen abspeichern und auch mehrere durchführen kann und sogar dabei hilft Bilder bei Twitpic.com oder Mobypicture.com hochzuladen.
Da es allerdings keine einheitliche Hardware bei den Mobiltelefonen gibt, kann es sein, dass der Bilderupload nicht überall funktioniert.

Nachdem ich bei Mobypicture.com gesehen hatte, dass man dort auch Videos hochladen kann überlegte ich mir ob Twibble da mit spielt. Gesagt getan. Ein kurzes Video mit dem Handy erstellt und beim Tweet in Twibble via “Attach Picture” einfach das Video ausgewählt. Siehe da: es funktionierte. Danke!

Nun kann ich auch mobil Videos hochladen. Twibble ist für mich echt der beste mobile Twitterclient!

Probleme und Anmerkungen sind im Blog zu Twibble Mobile perfekt untergebracht. Es wird versucht schnell zu helfen und Probleme werden nicht ignoriert sondern angegangen und beseitigt.

Es gibt nur zwei kleine Dinge die ich bei Twibble verbessern würde.

1. Es wäre angenehm wenn man in Twibble mehrere Twitter-Accounts hinterlegen könnte. Diese müssen nicht einmal permanent abgefragt und mit aktualisiert werden. Allein die Möglichkeit per Einstellungsdialog zu wählen: jetzt nutze bitte Account A zum Twittern und jetzt nutze Account B wäre angenehm
2. Die Möglichkeit eine Zeitzone einzustellen. Einige javafähige Mobiltelefone haben ein Problem bei Twibble, es werden dann zwar die Tweets angezeigt doch die Zeit stimmt nicht. Leider kann man in diesen Fällen nicht einfach eine Zeitkorrektur, wie beispielsweise +3 h oder -5h angeben, mit der Twibble selbst korrigierend eingreift.

Alles in allem ist Twibble Mobile aber absolut empfehlenswert und ich werde jedenfalls ein treuer Nutzer bleiben.

Hayo…siapa belum kenal twitter? Yeah, twitter ini adalah situs yang menyediakan fasilitas microblogging yakni sebanyak 140 karakter. Gampangnya sih seperti update status di facebook. Nah bedanya apa dong? Bedanya, situs dengan slogan what are you doing ini menyediakan fasilitas follow dan follower.

Nantinya orang-orang yang kita follow, tweetnya (istilah status dalam twitter) akan terlihat di page home kita. Begitu pula sebaliknya.Wah serasa jadi artis ya hehehehe. Eits, maka dari itulah, twitter ini juga dimanfaatkan oleh artis-artis baik artis Indonesia maupun mancanegara untuk memberi informasi kepada fans yang menjadi followernya. Bahkan, cawapres kita pun juga pakai twitter lho.

Lalu kalau begitu, twitter hanya satu arah saja dong? Wah tidak. Justru kita bisa mereply status tersebut maka terjadilah diskusi disini.

For those of you using a BlackBerry, you should know that there are definitely no shortages of twitter apps. Now is a great time to try out many of these apps because most are FREE. Unlike the iPhone which only has a couple of free twitter apps, the BlackBerry has quite a few diverse apps that fit almost any twittering taste.

I’m only going to be talking about apps that I myself have actually tried and tested. I am not reviewing any bit of software that I have not personally tested myself.

YATCA 1.5.2
YATCA stands for Yet Another Twitter Client App. This app has one unique feature of not really having a stand alone app. It relies on the BlackBerry’s default messaging box for all tweets. Now, some of you may thing that this might be a tad extreme having all messages from everyone you are following come into your messaging box, and to that I say, yes, it is. Thankfully, it has lots of configuration options built in. Currently, I only have this app running to pick up any @replies that are sent to me as well as any @mentions. I figure this is what most people would want coming into their inbox anyways since these messages are directed towards you. All other messages I have are discarded into the trash by default. You post updates through the default messaging box and YATCA handles twitpic as well which is a great bonus. YATCA also displays a notification icon in the status bar when new tweets are sent to you. http://www.yatca.com

Twitterberry 0.9 Beta 6
This is probably one of the most widely used twitter clients out on the BlackBerry. I see almost everyone with a BlackBerry using this app and for good reason. It works. Twitterberry unlike YATCA is a standalone app. It has more options then YATCA has. Where YATCA as basically a barebones app for just receiving tweets, Twitterberry can do all that along with being able to search, follow and unfollow, view public timelines, twitpic and yfrog integration, and view profiles. Most people will find this to be the perfect twitter client to use. Not me. I found it a little annoying that there was no notification icon for new tweets in the status bar. Only the blinking red LED light. This can be confusing to some. Also, sometimes I could not get rid of the blinking light and would have to basically hard reset my device. the app is still in beta right now so hopefully they will iron out some of the bugs. UberTwitter Beta 1
Now here is an app with lots of potential to beat Twitterberry. It does pretty much everything Twitterberry does while having a much cleaner interface. The 1 added bonus that this app has over Twitterberry is that it can integrate with your BlackBerry’s GPS or cell tower location and post it up in your tweet. It can also find people around you who are tweeting. There are some functions that are missing like the ability to follow people new, but the developers seem to be working on that for the next beta build. One major downside that keeps me from using this program fully is the fact that it is a major battery hog. After using it for maybe 30 minutes, it used up maybe 25% of my battery life which is way too much. I had to junk it till the next build comes out. This app I think also did not have a notification icon for the status bar. http://ubertwitter.com/

TinyTwitter
Tinytwitter is pretty much just like Ubertwitter. Interface is great, uses up very little memory and battery life seems decent. I go back to using this one every now and then. Tinytwitter though has a very strange way of uploading twitpic images and seems to only get images off the main memory? Again, no notification icon for the status bar. http://www.tinytwitter.com/

SocialScope Lite
This is the newest program I’ve tried for twitter. Since this is a closed beta, many of you might not be able to use it yet. I had signed up for a beta but never received a link to the program. I finally got my big break when a link to Socialscope Lite popped up online and I grabbed it as fast as I could. The link is now gone so I’m guessing it is closed again. anyways, this app is very comparable to Twitterberry. It does everything twitterberry does but in a much nicer interface. It also displays thumbnails of twitpics right in the main tweet. Very useful feature so you don’t have to click a link just to see a pic. Socialscope has 1 main feature that none of these other apps has, and that is Facebook integration. Socialscop can display all new status updates of everyone you are friends with. This gives Facebook almost a twitterlike feel on Socialscope. It is a very neat fuction that I find better then the actual Facebook app for displaying staus updates and notifications. Socialscope also unlike the other apps has an icon notification for the status bar! http://socialscope.net/

That’s pretty much all the twitter apps I have used. What re my recommendations? If you just want a no frills app where you can post updates and view @replies, I definitely suggest using YATCA. It is very simple to use and integrates nicely with your messaging inbox. If you want a do it all app, I suggest Socialscope when it comes out of private beta. It has everything you could possible want int a twitter app and more. However, since it is in private beta, my second recommendation would be twitterberry for its sheer popularity and uberberry followed closely behind. This may change however once new beta builds of these programs come out.

Earlier this week Simon asked us to share what we carry with us when we go mobile. Unlike Aliza, my forays out of the office tend to be short, usually for things like client meetings or local presentations, so my needs are pretty sparse. I bring with me what I need to accomplish my trip’s goals, plus the general tools that I find I may need no matter where I am headed.

There’s nothing particularly fancy inside, but it is all functional and each piece fits its required role perfectly.

The Bag

Like Simon, I’m a big fan of the backpack. I’ve had a Targus Sport for going on five years now and it is holding up quite well. Easy to sling over my shoulder, well padded for the laptop and filled with miscellaneous pockets for all sorts of supplemental stuff. Padded shoulder straps make it a comfortable carry even on a long walk.

The Laptop

My current laptop is an IBM ThinkPad R50e (s ibm), which I’ve had for a few years. I prefer a 15-inch screen for a good mix between portability and usability. I’ve bumped up the RAM to the 2GB maximum, but otherwise it still works quite well for everything I can throw at it.

I’m a big fan of the ThinkPad line of laptops in general. In my experience, they have proven to be very reliable and offer a lot of functionality at a good value. I imagine my next laptop will also be a ThinkPad.

A lot of people tell me I should go Mac (s aapl), I say I’ll consider it when I can get one with a TrackPoint , as I honestly can’t imagine my primary machine not having one (yes, I’m “the guy who likes the TrackPoint,” mock away…) My current model doesn’t even have a touchpad, which is ideal for me.

I do have an extra battery I bring along for long trips and a power brick that is easily accessible.

The Connection

For connectivity, I use the Sprint Mobile Broadband (s s) service in conjunction with a Novatel S620 card. The coverage here in my area is excellent and the speed is good enough to avoid any frustration. It’s nice to not have to worry about finding hotspots and just knowing that I can connect anywhere. I wish I could avoid the monthly fee but on more than one occasion it has proven to be indispensable.

The Phone

I just recently moved into the smartphone era with the purchase of a Samsung BlackJackII . In addition to phone calls, it also works quite well for handling my other data needs. It syncs beautifully via IMAP with Gmail, my calendar is kept up to date with the help of GooSync, and Tiny Twitter keeps me connected to my friends there. I don’t do much browsing on it but I do recommend the upgrade to Opera Mobile, which I prefer over IE Mobile. My phone was cheap through AT&T (s t) and has proven to be a good mobile companion.

I have a Bluetooth headset but I find it so horribly uncomfortable that except when I’m obligated by law to use it (like when driving in Chicago) I tend to forgo it. The lack of a good headset tends to keep me off of the phone while driving, which is probably a good thing anyway.

The Camera

I’m not much of a shutterbug, I guess. I take the miscellaneous photo with my phone or for “heavy duty” needs I’ll borrow the Nikon E3100 from my wife.

The Tunes

To keep myself sane in a noisy environment or to grab myself some entertainment, I use a set of either Shure E2C or E3C sound isolating earphones which do an amazing job at both. They have been discontinued, but the SE210 appears to be the logical replacement. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with them.

I also have an ancient MPIO FL100 MP3 player which continues to serve me well for the limited times I need it.

The Extras

I also keep handy various power bricks and adapters to keep things charged. I’ve got a USB key with PortableApps on it which can let me be productive on someone else’s machine if necessary, and there are always a couple of blank CDs handy as well.

The Non-Tech

I take advantage of the multiple pockets in my backpack to carry along the basics like notebook, pens, tissues, mints, hand sanitizer and I usually try to remember to bring along a book for “offline” time.

Inwiefern nützt Microblogging dem TSV(-Fußball)? Diese Frage habe ich mir gestellt, als ich in der vergangenen und laufenden Saison – um es einmal ganz allgemein auszudrücken – über kurzfristige Planänderungen nicht informiert war. Bevor ich diese Frage beantworten werde, sei kurz an die Definition von Microblogging erinnert, falls jemand diesen Begriff noch nicht gehört haben sollte:

Microblogging ist eine Form der Online-Kommunikation, bei der die Benutzer kurze, SMS-ähnliche Textnachrichten veröffentlichen können. Die Länge dieser Nachrichten beträgt in der Regel 140 Zeichen. Die einzelnen Postings sind entweder privat oder öffentlich zugänglich und werden wie in einem Blog chronologisch dargestellt. Die Nachrichten können meist über verschiedene Kanäle wie SMS, E-Mail, Instant Messaging oder das Web erstellt und abonniert werden. Der derzeit bekannteste und größte Microblogging-Dienst heißt twitter (http://twitter.com/).

Ein Beispiel: Wird zum Beispiel das Fußballtraining kurzfristig (sagen wir beim Dienstagstraining) von Freitag auf Donnerstag vorgezogen (oder auch nur am Freitag selbst zeitlich vorgezogen), so ist es nicht immer ganz einfach, jene darüber in Kenntnis zu setzen, die am Dienstag nicht im Training waren (Es ist auch vorstellbar, dass die Vorverlegung erst am Mittwoch beschlossen wird, in diesem Fall müssten alle in Kenntnis gesetzt werden). Zum Teil funktioniert das über Mundpropaganda, aber eben nicht verlässlich, vor allem wenn nicht alle Spieler in Schnaitsee sind. Vergisst mal jemand, einen Mitspieler zu informieren, kommt dieser zu spät oder gar nicht – das muss nicht sein. Nun wäre es natürlich mühsam, müsste der Trainer oder ein Stellvertreter jeden einzeln über die Änderungen in Kenntnis setzen, abgesehen davon, dass man das nicht verlangen kann (gerade im Seniorenbereich) und abgesehen von den eventuellen Kosten und dem zeitlichen Aufwand.

Was also tun? Die Antwort darauf könnte Microblogging sein. Andere Möglichkeiten einmal beiseite gelassen schwebt mir folgendes vor: Sobald der Trainer bzw. Verantwortliche eine Änderung oder Neuigkeit zu verkünden hat, nutzt er einen Microblogging-Dienst, in unserem Fall am besten per SMS. Dazu reicht eine SMS (Kosten je nach Vertrag bzw. Tarif, in der Regel jedoch nicht mehr als zehn Cent), wodurch schon mal der Zeit- und Kostenfaktor keine Rolle mehr spielen. Um das oben geschrieben bewerkstelligen zu können, braucht der Trainer bzw. Verantwortliche natürlich einen Account (Benutzerkonto) bei einem Microblogging-Dienst wie zum Beispiel twitter – der ist kostenlos – und selbstverständlich braucht man auch ein Handy.

Wie erfahren nun die Spieler bzw. Betroffenen von dieser Änderung? Dazu müssen sie nicht zwingen selbst einen  Account bei twitter haben, auch wenn das natürlich nicht von Nachteil ist (und es ist für die mobile Variante unabdingbar). Das große Manko beim Microblogging ist derzeit, dass man zwar per SMS Mitteilungen bzw. Nachrichten verschicken kann, nicht jedoch direkt empfangen kann, dass geht nur über Umwege, die ich weiter unten skizziere.  Um das zu verdeutlichen: Zwar kann der Coach am Mittwochabend eine SMS schreiben mit dem Inhalt: “Training am Freitag um bereits um 18:00 statt um 19:00″, was aber nicht (zumindest nicht direkt bzw. automatisch) zur Folge hat, dass wenige Sekunden später alle 30 Spieler aus dem Kader eben diese SMS erhalten. Das wäre natürlich der Clou und – in unserem speziellen Fall – durchaus genau der Sinn der Sache – ist aber außer über Umwege nicht drin, denn irgendwer müsste ja den Spaß (sprich die 30 SMS bezahlen), und twitter will das nicht sein (und der Coach auch nicht).

Es gibt Alternativen: So ist es beispielsweise möglich, dass die vom Verantwortlichen abgeschickte SMS auf der TSV-Homepage erscheint.  Ich spiele mit dieser Möglichkeit derzeit im Bereich Blitzmeldungen auf der Startseite. Natürlich: Um eine Nachricht, Änderung u.ä. mitzubekommen, müsste der Spieler regelmäßig auf die TSV-Homepage schauen, nach dem Motto: “Gibt es irgendwelche News bzw. Abweichungen vom Plan?” Dass ist jedoch dann nicht nötig, wenn man RSS verwendet. Natürlich ließe sich einwenden, dass man sich so oder so an den PC setzen muss, sei es um die TSV-Homepage anzusurfen oder einen RSS-Feeder bzw. sein E-Mail-Programm zu starten, womit der Weg über RSS tatsächlich unnötig wäre, vor allem sofern man sich erst in die Thematik einlesen, und RSS einrichten muss. Als Alternative bietet sich ein Client an, eine Handy-Software also, mit der man sich über neueste Twitter-Feeds auf dem laufenden halten kann. Zugegeben, nachschauen muss man immer noch selbst.

Nachfolgend eine Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitung für die Trainer:

1. Auf www.twitter.com gehen
2. Auf  “Get Started – Join” klicken
3. Name, Benutzername und Passwort eingeben, anschließend auf “Create my account” klicken.
4. Anschließend erscheint die Seite “See if your friends are on Twitter” Das kann man mit einem Klick auf “Skip this step” überspringen.
5. Danach wird die Seite “Look who else is here. Start following them!” mit ein paar Promis, die einen Twiter-Account haben angezeigt. Auswahl treffen und dann auf “Finish” kilcken.
6. Nun erscheint die eigentliche Twitterseite mit der Frage “What are you doing” und dem Textkasten für 140 Zeichen.
7. Uns geht’s um mobiles Microblogging, also auf oben rechts auf “Settings” klicken, anschließend auf “Devices” klicken. Nun gibt man Seite Handynummer ein, voransteht +49, die erste 0 wird weggelassen. Aus 0123/456789 wird als +49123456789. Dann ein Häckchen setzen bei:  ” It’s okay for Twitter to send txt messages to my phone. Standard rates apply.” Zuletzt auf “Save” klicken.
8. Damit twitter sicher sein kann dass auch alles richtig ist, wird nun ein Code eingeblendet, den man per SMS an die +4917688850505 senden muss.
9. Fertig. An die o.g. Nummer schickt man dann auch seine Kurznachrichten. Beachten: Nur 140 Zeichen (im Vergleich zu den 160 Zeichen einer “normalen” SMS).

Damit die Kurznachrichten auf der TSV-Startseite erscheinen, brauche ich noch den Namen des RSS-Feeds. Diese Angabe ist auf der Twitterseite rechts unten zu finden. Mit der rechten Maustaste draufklicken, kopieren und an mich (webmaster/at/tsv-schnaitsee.de) mailen.

Die einzigen Kosten entstehen durch das Versenden einer SMS!

Was muss nun der Spieler bzw. Nutzer tun um die Nachrichten lesen bzw. empfangen zu können?

Möglichkeiten über den PC / Laptop u.ä.:

a): Alle Nachrichten erscheinen auf der TSV-Webseite.

b): Ausgewählten Nachrichtensendern per RSS folgen.

Mobile Möglichkeiten:

c): Eine Handysoftware (sog. Client) installieren, zum Beispiel tinytwitter. Dazu ist freilich ein eigener Twitter-Account von Nöten, bei dem man eingestellt hat, dass man den Nachrichten von “XY folgt”. Bei der aktiven Verwendung von tinytwitter oder anderen Clients (twibble, Cellity) entstehen Kosten (Datentransfer) die  – ohne Gewähr – im unteren Cent-Bereich liegen dürften.

d:) Der oben angesprochene Umweg… heißt Twe2, siehe auch hier und hier. Weil das Versenden von SMS ja etwas kostet, hängt Twe2 an die Nachricht selbst noch Werbung an. Auch um diesen Dienst nutzen zu können, braucht man einen twitter-Account. Auf der Seite von Twe2 gibt man seinen twitter-Benutzernamen und Passwort und anschließend seine Handynummer ein. Anschließend erhält man per SMS einen Bestätigungs-Code, den man auf der Twe2-Seite eingibt

e:) Wer keine Werbung mag, kann auch einen Bezahldienst wie twitsms nutzen, bei dem der Empfang einer SMS 0,05 Euro, also fünf Cent kostet. Bei twitsms kann man sehr genau einstellen, wessen Nachrichten man empfangen möchte, so dass eine totale Kostenkontrolle besteht, die ferner durch Vorausbuchung eines SMS-Pakets (100 SMS kosten 4,90 Euro) verstärkt wird.

Es gibt freilich zahlreiche weitere Einsatzmöglichkeiten für mobiles Microblogging als mein eingangs erwähntes Szenario. So lassen sich beispielsweise Aufstellungen, Spielergebnisse samt Torschützen und ähnliches gleich nach Abpfiff versenden, womit diese Informationen innert weniger Sekunden auf der TSV-Startseite erscheinen und auf dem Handy all jener, die dem Nachrichtensender auf twitter folgen.

Sicher werden dem Leser auch weitere Einsatzmöglichkeiten (auch anderer Abteilungen) eingefallen sein (Spielausfall, Sitzungen, Bus voll etc). Der allgemeine Gedanke  ist einfach, mit einer SMS die gesamte TSV-Gemeinde schnell, unkompliziert und kostengünstig – entweder via Internetseite oder aber auch direkt, sprich mobil, zu informieren. Für Kommentare zu diesem Thema bin ich besonders dankbar.

My current favorite applications on my T-Mobile Blackberry 8100 (Pearl):

Reqall - ToDo List Reminder Application. Multiple methods of updating including a dial in number. Their Google Widget for my Google iGoogle Homepage is way too weak though. This channel really needs to be improved to make me adopt this 100%.
TinyTwitter - Just started using it. Good feature set for updating Twitter on the go.
Viigo - Awesome RSS reader. New version has weather. I digest most of my news using this app. If something looks really interesting I will email it to myself for further research.
Whrrl - Just a play thing at this point. Has some potential. Need to be able to capture more information like wait times and would like for it to use cell tower tranangulation for searching where I am. I would try loopt instead but it is not supported on TMobile.

Of course I have the GooglePack installed with Maps, Mail, and some others I don’t really use.

Gearing up for the Engadget reader meetup/holiday party you are going to want to make sure you can update your tweets from your Storm/ Bold or other RIM device. (FYI Verizon lovers, last time I was @ the Hiro Ballroom for a tech event Verizon had pretty shoddy coverage down there, T-Mobile was solid and AT&T I am clueless to.)  In any case, today we’ll be putting on our cowboy boots and spurs and wrangling up four FREE Twitter clients for your tweeting pleasure.  Before you start reading, follow me @jarbro.

Version 0.8 brings twitpic support to one of the more popular twitter clients.  With a new GUI it makes you slightly giddy when tweeting.  It supports a plethora of RIM devices and automatically detects what your best connection method is.

Twibble – http://www.twibble.de/
Billed as the first location aware twitter client for Blackberry, it will update your location based upon your GPS coordinates.  Definitely one of the more full featured twitter clients out there.  You can program quick text fields in for commonly used tweets or  post a snapshot of the crazy lady you saw on the train to Twitpic.  My one gripe is that its a bit slow and that when you start it you have to grant network access to the twibble api. (Which can be circumvented by turning on the internal device firewall.)   Overall it is the most feature rich Blackberry Twitter client.

TinyTwitter - http://www.tinytwitter.com/
They have the most minimalistic website I have seen in quite some time.  I only used their client a few times as I found it to be aesthetically unappealing.   It’s a little clunky, but then again it isn’t built specifically for Blackberry.  It’s build for any Java MIDP device.

Twitter Mobile – http://m.twitter.com
As barebones as it gets.  This is your basic twitter mobile site.  Allows you to view @replys, people you follow, your profile, and the public timeline.  It loads up in your browser and you post and perform all of your twasks from there.

In the end…
Overall, I prefer Twitterberry the best.  It’s fast, very intuitive, and downright easy to use.  Plus it seems that jaschroe is updating the software quite frequently.  However if you are looking for the full blown Twitter experience and don’t mind waiting a few extra ticks… twibble is your best bet.

Oh wait; you don’t have your laptop. You do however have your cell phone. If only there was a way to tweet these and other things when you’re computer wasn’t available. Guess what, there is.

Your cell phone can be a powerful Twitter tool. There are many ways you can use it to benefit not only you, but your followers as well. With your cell phone you can continue to contact your friends and followers and they can tweet you as well. Your cell phone is a communication highway and with Twitter added it becomes a networking wonder.

There are many tools you can use to twitter from your cell phone. Depending on the type of phone you have, you can go mobile in a number of ways. Tools like Jott, Hahlo, Mobile Twitter, Thin Cloud Twitter, Twitter to Go, Twitter SMS, Twitter IM, and Twoble are all available for various cell phones and plans to help you tweet tweet away.

I personally love my Blackberry and I’ve been testing two Twitter applications, Twitterberry and TinyTwitter. I really love Twitterberry and I’m having a hard time finding things that I want to do using TinyTwitter. I give 2 thumbs up for Twitterberry! Now I’m never bored waiting for my doctor appointment or waiting for my kids to finish their music lesson.

Here are just two of the many cool ways to use any cell phone to harness the power or networking through Twitter:

If your phone has a mobile browser, you can go to www.m.twitter.com and you are good to go. While this is not the best option, it is an option and it works. This is a simple tool that allows you to view Twitter from your cell phone and allows you to tweet back and let people know what you are doing as well.

Flurry is a mobile mail client/service. You can download the Flurry client on your phone seconds after you sign-up. Flurry, which started out as a service that would let you check e-mail on your cell phone has recently added a feature that allows you to add RSS feeds and read them on your mobile phone.

In case you did not know, you can set up RSS for all your favorite Twitter users. All you need to do is add RSS feeds generated by the Twitter accounts of your friends. The best part about it is that you don’t have to pay for anything – it’s free. If you want to send messages of your own from your cell phone letting people know what you’re doing, just use the SMS (texting) feature on your phone.

Your cell phone has so many capabilities and so does Twitter. By using the two together you have yet another way to utilize the power of social media. Of course you don’t want to drive and tweet at the same time but you can always pull over to the side of the road and tweet your ideas, thoughts, or updates away.

O jisté fascinaci novým trendem mikroblogování přes Twitter jsem již psal. Natolik mě to zaujalo, že k zasílání příspěvků používám i mobil. Protože se mě několik známých opakovaně ptalo, jakým způsobem lze poslat zprávu i z mobilu, rozhodl jsem se, že v krátkosti představím “své vybavení”.

Před několika měsíci jsem skončil své několikaleté soužití s MDA a poslal ho nyní do světa. Od té doby používám symbianovské Nokia k velké spokojenosti. V této chvíli se jedná o model E65, který má ke všemu ještě možnost připojení se přes wifi a tak k současné absolutní spokojenosti není daleko. Mobil je malý, poměrně lehký, vysouvací švihák vybavený hodně slušně. Není co řešit, i když iPhone to není.

Jakmile jsem pronikl do twitteru, první věc, kterou jsem si zkusil, bylo využití možnosti zasílání tweetů přes sms. Slušně a bez problémů to funguje, jen mi chybí zpětná vazba, takže jsem lezl na svůj Home ostrůvek přes MiniOperu. Což se mi po krátké době zdálo jako málo efektivní a tak jsem se porozhlédl po alternativách, které lze mít v Nokii.

Po průzkumu jsem pokusně instaloval TinyTwitter, který je celý napsán v Javě a už jsem u něho zůstal. Program díky Javě funguje v podstatě v současné době na všech trochu lépe vybavených telefonech. Na E65 funguje svižně a i doba startu není problémem. Ovládání je velmi intuitivní, v podstatě se stačí na začátku nalogovat a po výběru typu připojení se načte vaše domácí stránka na Twitteru. Pěkná vychytávka se hned na začátku ukáže u každého příspěvku i ikonu dotyčného (lze vypnout), takže se lze ve výpisu poměrně snadno orientovat.

Další možnosti se skrývají pod levým tlačítkem Options, kde lze updatovat výpis (lze to nastavit automaticky po nastaveném čase), napsat tweet, odpovědět kamarádovi (po zvýraznění jeho příspěvku)
nebo napsat Direct message, což je samozřejmě pouze zpráva vybrané osobě bez toho, aniž by si to četli ostatní.

Možností nastavení moc není, ale myslím, že to vůbec není na škodu. I tak se dá Tiny Twitter skvěle, rychle a hlavně intuitivně používat. Na své Nokii ho používám denně jak s využitím GPRS, tak přes mnohem rychlejší wifi. Nezaznamenal jsem žádné pády programu, hroucení systému nebo podobné excesy. Pro javovské telefony je to výborná alternativa pro vaše využití.
