Tidak sengaja saya membaca sebuah thread tentang hal serupa di kaskus (Hot Tread).  Thread itu menginformasikan tentang list 20 bahasa pemrograman yang paling populer di tahun 2009. Sayang isinya sangat minimalis. Jadi, dengan maksud untuk menambahkan informasinya, saya tulis saja tulisan ini.

Berikut adalah tabel 20 besar Bahasa Pemrograman Terpopuler 2009 :

Daftar di atas dibuat oleh TIOBE Programminc Community. Daftar tersebut dibuat berdasarkan kriteria berikut :
1) Jumlah programmer profesional yang dominan menggunakan bahasa tersebut
2) Pencarian di mesin pencari seperti Google, MSN, Yahoo, dan Wikipedia.
Kedua hal di atas tentu saja hanya merepresentasikan suatu bahasa pemrogramman dari segi kepopulerannya saja. Tentu  saja demikian, sebab judul daftar tersebut adalah Bahasa Pemrogramman Terpopuler 2009. Bahasa pemrograman paling populer belum tentu bahasa pemrograman yang paling powerfull. Cara penilaian lebih lanjut dapat dilihat di situs resmi TIOBE.

Fungsi dari daftar ini adalah untuk memeriksa apakah bahasa pemrograman yang kita pelajari masih lumrah dipakai. Untuk para programmer pemula, daftar ini bisa membantu sebagai referensi untuk memilih bahasa pemrograman yang akan didalami atau dipelajari sebagai keahliannya.

Dari tabel di atas, bisa dilihat bahwa bahasa pemrogramman JAVA menduduki peringkat pertama, disusul oleh bahasa C, C++,PHP, dan Visual Basic. Perlu diketahui bahwa bahasa JAVA, C++, dan PHP adalah bahasa pemrograman berbasiskan objek (Object Oriented Programming). Jadi paling tidak bisa kita simpulkan bahwa bahasa pemrograman berbasis objek masih mendominasi bahasa pemrograman pada umumnya. Dan wajar pula jika mata kuliah bahasa pemrograman berbasis objek menjadi mata kuliah wajib di setiap jurusan Ilmu komputer.

Mungkin daftar di atas juga bisa menjadi salah satu jawaban atas pertanyaan : Kenapa harus bahasa C?

Why pascal ?

it’s all the power of the simplicity (oo pascal follows the kiss philosophy and in a way is better than c++ for example)

Most of the time you have to rewire and damage your brain for c++

but pascal is focused to be an learning tool and it’s easier for the brain it seems close to pseudo code and the way brain works

Just go in an computer science class and ask students what they like:c++ or pascal
I’m not talking about the genius but the average guy
The same is with php or java script it’s easier to catch and learn them than java or c++

Check the tiobe index and you will see how the scripting languages take over the work

The ratings are based on the number of skilled engineers world-wide, courses and third party vendors. The popular search engines Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and YouTube are used to calculate the ratings. Observe that the TIOBE index is not about the best programming language or the language in which most lines of code have been written.

Since there are many questions about the way the TIOBE index is assembled, a special page is devoted to its definition.

The ratings are calculated by counting hits of the most popular search engines. The search query is executed for the regular Google, Google Blogs, MSN, Yahoo!, and YouTube web search for the last 12 months. The web site Alexa.com has been used to determine the most popular search engines.

The number of hits determine the ratings of a language. The counted hits are normalized for each search engine for the first 50 languages.

Besides the rating of programming languages, there is also a status indicated in the TIOBE chart. Programming languages that have status “A” are considered to be mainstream languages. Status “A-” and “A–” indicate that a programming language is between status “A” and “B”. If a programming language has a rating that is higher than 0.7% (yes, this number is arguable but we had to fix it somewhere) for at least 3 months it is rewarded status “A”. The first two months the programming language will receive status “A–” and “A-” respectively. The opposite holds for languages that go from status “A” to status “B”. So if a language had status “A” 2 months ago, a rating of “0.607%” last month and a rating of “0.687%” now, it will have status “A–”.

Programming languages that are very similar are grouped together. Currently the maximum of the hits of the individual languages is taken into account when calculating the ratings of groupings. In the future we will do a better job and take the union (from mathematical set theory) of all the hits.

No wonder Java tops the ranking. And it will continue to hold that position for some time to come. What I am surprised to see there was Pascal is gaining popularity and people are using it nowadays. You can see the list of top 50 languages here.

O índice TIOBE declarou o Python linguagem de programação do ano de 2007. No ranking geral a linguagem se encontra agora na 6ª posição, tendo pulado da 8ª posição, onde se encontrava há exatamente 1 ano (passando na frente de Perl e C#, que caíram uma posição cada).

Outras mudanças interessantes no top 20:

• PHP subiu 1 posição (ultrapassando C++), estando agora em 4º (atrás apenas de Java, C e Basic)
• Delphi subiu 3 posições, estando agora em 9º
• Ruby caiu 1 posição, estando agora em 10º
• Lua subiu 30 posições, da 46ª para a 16ª posição
• Logo entrou no top 20 na 20ª posição, tendo subido 7 posições

A diferença de percentual entre Python (6º) e C++ (5º), ainda é grande, mas se mantiver a mesma saúde o Python pode passar o C++ dentro de 12 meses. A linguagem criada por Bjarne Stroustrup caiu 2 posições em 1 ano, então é possível que continue ladeira abaixo durante 2008. Vamos ver.

Look at both Delphi, Cobol, FoxPro and Lua. Lua is an increasingly popular language for writing games.

Come prevedibile Java, C/C++ e Php si trovano ai primi posti…ma il Ruby sembra essere la vera sorpresa e nella sua rapida ascesa si candida ad essere uno dei linguaggi che può rivoluzionare il mondo della programmazione.
