These are the things that are on my mind (annoying me!)…I hope that maybe someone else out there have also noticed these things…

1. Vampires

When will it be time for us to get off of the Vampire bandwagon? This Twilight mania has spurred a worldwide vampire mania. There are HBO shows about vampires now…True Blood…there are Japanese Dramas about Vampires, Manga…WHEN WILL IT STOP?! Another thing that annoys me are twilight moms; I mean if there were twilight dads and the main character of twilight was a 17 year old girl…I bet it would spur some controversies…

2. Farmville

People please stop sending me things on facebook for Farmville…I don’t have a Farmville account, therefore, I cannot accept your pig (actually, being a Muslim makes it haram for me to raise a pig), I cannot accept that bale of hay either. People at the library that are on Farmville…stop wasting our tax dollars! I’m at the library because I really need to print out this report and hand it in by 5 pm!

3. Foreign telemarketers pretending to be average Joes

John from customer service that is works to AT&T that helped me with my DSL problems, I know that your name is not John. I know you are a desi…your name is probably Jyotsna Maharastra Krishnagopal Singh. I feel you man, you don’t have to lie…but you don’t have to mispronounce my name either! You know how to pronounce it…no one told you that you have to be that authentic!

4. People who sniff but don’t use a tissue

This is one of my pet peeves!! I absolutely detest (did I sound British here?), especially in a quiet room, when there’s that one person that is sniffling but clearly isn’t making the effort to blow their nose. I think this pet peeve dates back to the middle school, when there was that one girl sitting in the back during tests that would sniffle. I felt like getting up and punching her in the face to shut her up!

5. True Life Episodes that are about being average

I used to like True Life. Even now when I have nothing to watch and True Life is on, I’ll watch it. I liked their coverage on True Life: I am an alcoholic, I was excited (and later disappointed) for True Life: I am getting an arranged marriage. But I have to say that their episodes also contain episodes of average life that is not television worthy such as True Life: I am a High School Freshman. Umm..okay? So was I? I don’t understand what they thought so hard was about being a high school freshman was that they had to follow those teens around for a whole year. I mean I did it, and I am a desi..it’s a little tough going to high school when you’re desi and your parents are anal about grades and your high school require clear backpacks and has metal detectors…

6. People Commenting on Tiger Wood’s affairs

Okay people, this is a touchy subject to me. I am a die hard Tiger fan. But in the light of recent news and the uncovering of his repeated affairs to the level of almost nymphomania…I will say that I am deeply disappointed in Tiger. But this doesn’t take away all that he accomplished as an athlete. Stop talking about his private affairs and then connecting to his sport and his performance on the field!

7. VH1 reality dating shows

Really VH1? This is all you have? Just dating shows? How low do you have to be to actually go on those reality shows and then tell America that you are there because you love that person…and that you really truly believe that you are the one for them? The person’s hear that they are trying to win over are sooooo goddamn ugly like flava flav…I mean we all that all the contestants are skanks looking for their ten minute of fame (cat fight) on E!’s show The Soup…”Reality TV clip time”..Also, I would like to meet the people that actually watch these shows that keep them on air…I would like to ask them what they find so appealing…

Author: Anonymous Source: free-articles ARLINGTON, VA July 18, 2003 โ€” According to a recent

Author: Anonymous
Source: free-articles

ARLINGTON, VA July 18, 2003 โ€” According to a recent survey, over 40% of researchers who currently use tissue microarrays are working on cancer research or diagnosis. Since tissue microarrays, per se, were developed by researchers, power tools
, at the National Cancer Institute, it is not surprising that early, power tools
, adopters, power tools
, of this technology are using them, power tools
, in oncology.

Future market growth will be driven by adoption of tissue microarrays in other areas of research, such as neurobiology and infectious disease, as well as their increased utilization in high-throughput analysis of tissue sections, validation of DNA microarray data and biomarker discovery.

These findings were, power tools
, recently published by BioInformatics, LLC (Arlington, VA) in a new life science market report, โ€œThe Market,, power tools
, power tools
, for Tissue Microarrays.โ€ Based on a comprehensive survey of more than 250 researchers and clinicians, power tools
, who currently use tissue microarrays, the report details the products and techniques most commonly used and reveals the product attributes and suppliers with which they are most satisfied.

Histology is taking on new importance in clinical and research laboratories as the growing use of DNA microarrays and other rapid genomic analysis techniques creates increasing amounts of data that need to be validated. Until the development of the tissue microarray, informative tissue analysis required the production of individual tissue, power tools
, sections one at a time, which, power tools
, created a bottleneck in the research pipeline.

Now, tissue microarrays allow hundreds of tissue samples to be analyzed simultaneously on one microscope slide in the same amount of time that was previously required for a single specimen. Besides increasing throughput, tissue microarrays offer researchers the ability to conserve precious tissue resources, improve internal experimental control and reduce the consumption of reagents.

โ€œScience ultimately benefits since tissue microarraysโ€”by their very natureโ€”often necessitate multi-center research studies, which bring the expertise and experience of many talented researchers to bear on tough problems,โ€ observes Dr. Robin Rothrock, Director of Market Research at BioInformatics, LLC.

Realizing the benefits, an increasing number, power tools
, of scientists are starting to use, power tools
, tissue, power tools
, microarrays. In fact, within the study population, the number of users has at least doubled each year over the past two years. In the next 12 months, this number is projected to grow over 40% with much of the near-term, power tools
, growth being driven by new entrants rather than by increased consumption by current users.

Many scientists produce, process and analyze their own tissue microarrays, citing their control over array content and cost as key reasons. To create their arrays, over one-half of these respondents indicated that they use in-house developed instruments and hand tools, while others use specially designed instrumentation from Beecher and Chemicon, power tools
, .

In addition to the tools for creating arrays, scientists frequently employ antibodies, stains and colorimetric, power tools
, or fluorescent detection reagents to visualize target RNA, DNA and protein molecules in tissue microarray sections. โ€œInvitrogen is a leading supplier of signal detection, power tools
, kits and reagents, and as of yet, few other suppliers appear, power tools
, to have targeted their signal detection products specifically to tissue microarray users,โ€ says Rothrock.

The most pervasive stumbling blocks that scientists encounter when employing tissue microarrays are the detachment of specimens during processing and the fact that the fixative medium is not optimized for the detection, power tools
, of specific target molecules. โ€œI believe that these two reasons likely explain why over half of the researchers surveyed outsource the production of tissue microarrays, preferring to rely on someone else’s expertise,โ€ claims Rothrock.

Despite the fact that 52% and 21% of the respondents outsource the production and processing/analysis of tissue microarrays, respectively, a dominant commercial provider has yet to emerge in this highly fragmented market. Of the researchers who obtain, power tools
, tissue microarrays externally, only 48% purchase premade arrays and another 15% order custom-made arrays from commercial sourcesโ€”with Invitrogen, BD Biosciences-Pharmingen and Ambion among the top suppliers, power tools
, .

Suppliers are meeting users’ requirements for choice of species, number of samples per, power tools
, slide and choice of tissues; however, scientists are less satisfied with, power tools
, other important attributes like batch-to-batch consistency and the number of slides per order. With regards to the respondents who outsource the processing/analysis of their tissue microarrays, only 31% rely on commercial service providers such as Biocat and Zymed. These respondents indicated that cost-effectiveness and quality of service were factors in their selection of a particular provider.

โ€œTissue microarrays and related products or services represent a new opportunity for many companies to further expand, power tools
, their presence in the lucrative pharmaceutical and clinical markets. Companies should use this report to capitalize on the increasing popularity of this powerful technology,โ€ concludes Rothrock.

When our parents were young in those days, people could buy cigarettes and smoke pretty much anywher

When our parents were young in those days, people could buy cigarettes and smoke pretty much anywhere – even in hospitals! Ads for cigarettes were all over the place. Today we are more aware about how bad smoking is for our health. Smoking is restricted and banned in almost all public places and cigarette companies are no longer allowed to advertise on TV, radio, and in many magazines.

Almost everyone knows that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and heart diseases; that it can shorten your life by ten (10) years or more; and that habit can cost a smoker thousands of naira, dollar or pounds a year. So how come people are still lighting up? The answer is the word ADDICTION.

Once You Start, Its Hard To Stop

Smoking is a hard habit to break because tobacco contains nicotine which is highly addictive. Like heroine or other addictive drugs, and the body and mind quickly become so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person needs to have it just to feel normal. People start smoking for a variety of different reasons. Some thinks it looks cool; others start due to peer group while some do it because of their family members or friends smoke.

Statistics shows that about 9 out of 10 tobacco users start before they are 18 years old. Most adults who started smoking in their teens never expected to become addicted. That is why people say it’s just so much easier to start than to quit smoking.

How Smoking Affects Your Health

There are no physical reasons to start smoking. The body doesn’t need tobacco the way it needs food, water, sleep and exercise. Infact, many of the chemicals in cigarette like nicotine and cyanide are actually poisons that can kill in high doses. First time smokers often feel pains or burning in the throat and lungs while some feel sick or even throw up, the first few time they try tobacco. The body is small; it goes on the defense when it is being poisoned. The consequences of this poisoning happen gradually over the long term, smoking leads people to develop health problems like heart diseases, stroke, emphysema (breakdown of the lung tissue) and many types of cancer including lung, throat, stomach and bladder cancer. People who also smoke also have an increased risk of bronchitis and pneumonia.

Each time a smoker lights up a cigarette, it takes about 5 to 20 minutes of the person’s life. Smoking could also cause fertility problems and can impact sexual health in both male and female. Teen smokers experience many of these problems like bad skin, bad breath, reduced athletic performance, increased risk of illness, greater risk of injury and slower healing time.

As a smoker, take time to ask yourself these questions, maybe it could help you quit smoking and take unto a good and wonderful habit that could change your life and health around:

Why do you smoke?

Why do I benefit from smoking?

Don’t worry, I started it Currently he is VERY stuffed up and can fill 6 Kleenexes with snot… which is apparently green indicating to me that he has a sinus infection (perhaps a trip to the doctors for antibiotics and a heavy duty decongestant is in order). He also reports that he doesn’t wear a jacket (because he’s a surfer and doesn’t get affected by the cold). I pointed out that apparently he does become affected by the cold because he’s full of boogers!!! Have a great break, signed not impressed teacher (I used my real name of course)

Here’s the kicker… guardian replied…
“Yes (booger face) has been sick but can’t get to the drs till next week. As far as his jacket i dont know why he won’t wear it. He takes it to school and I always find it in his backpack. I don’t know who put it in his head that he’s a surfer? He doesn’t even surf!! He will be there at detention tomorrow. Thank you. (Guardian)

Hummmmm
Booger Face has told Teacher X and I for a year and a half that he’s a surfer!!! Teacher X even got a surf board and wet suit to try to bribe Booger Face to behave last year. (Booger Face was a complete FUCKING ASSHOLE last year and now just a pain in my ass this year). Needless to say Booger Face couldn’t stop being an asshole last year to earn the surf board and wet suit!!!

Teacher Tip:
~Make parents/guardians supply sick kids with tissue so they DON’T USE UP ALL OF YOURS
~Technically, I shouldn’t NOT have told the guardian to get him to the doctor’s because TECHNICALLY now the “district” might have to pay to make this happen… luckily I know this guardian and she isn’t like that.
~What tissues you do have in the classroom, I handout one by one because as we have learned from previous postings… KIDS WASTE tissues

Men once believed that evil spirits made people sick. Today we know that infectious diseases are caused by tiny organisms commonly called germs.

Three common kinds of germs are bacteria, viruses, and protozoa

Bacteria germs are one-celled plants that can be seen only through a microscope. They cause many diseases, including pneumonia, scarlet fever and whooping cough.

Viruses are tiny organisms. They are even smaller than bacteria. Virus germs cause such diseases as mumps, measles, chicken pox and the common cold.

Protozoa are tiny one-celled animals. Some kinds cause malaria and sleeping sickness.

The human body contains substances that germs can eat. Germs invade the body through the nose, mouth, or a scratch in the skin.

Some germs causes an illness by destroying the tissue they live in. Others produce poisons that can make us sick.

Do you need a last minute gift? Something small to go along with that gift card? Here’s a few ideas for you!

Make an Ornament- Here’s one that doesn’t look cheesy! Buy a package of clear ornament bulbs. Then push some garland inside & trim it when it’s mostly full. Add a clear sticker on the outside (I suggest Christmas words like “Joy” or “Merry Christmas” or even just some snowflakes.) Quick, inexpensive & beautiful!

Photo Gift Card- This is great for last minute gifts! On many websites, you can purchase a gift code instead of a card. I like to write the code (all pretty like) on a piece of paper & put it in a frame. (You could write something like “You have 100 prints waiting at www.shutterfly.com! Just enter this code into your account: XXXXXXXX” I’ve done this for my brother & his wife and others- they’ve all loved it!

Gas Gift Card- Unless you are buying for a toddler or something, everyone needs gas! You can always stop by the gas station on your way. I’ve found this is a great graduation gift, as well!

Magazine Subscription- This one is great- just buy the latest copy of whatever magazine you are subscribing them to & stick a bow on it. (Just please remember to fill out the subscription form & mail it in with payment!)

Board Game- There are board games for any situation & age out there now! Just grab one, grab a bag & some tissue & you’ve got yourself a great little gift!

Hope these help get you past a tough situation! Just relax, take a deep breath & enjoy the Christmas season!

We spent an afternoon at Himeji Castle before exploring some of the Nara Prefecture. If you only see

We spent an afternoon at Himeji Castle before exploring some of the Nara Prefecture. If you only see one castle in Japan, you’d better make it Himeji. It is absolutely pristine. Easily the best preserved structure built in the 1300’s that I’ve ever been to. It is the quintessential Japanese Castle.

At any rate, it’s located about a 10 minute walk down the main street from the Shinkansen. We arrived about lunch time figuring that there’d be plenty fo food options along that 10 minute walk. Right we were. We decided to veer off onto a side street where a retail arcade was as there’s always cheap delicious food options a plenty in retail arcades. Instead of eating at one of those establishments we wandered into a typical hole-in-the-wall Japanese staple, their alter-ego of Chicago’s taquerias. We filled ourselves with Ramen Noodles.

This was a very typical ma and pa ramen shop that you find everywhere in Japan. You walk in and are greeted by ma and pa themselves, “Irrashaemase!” There’s a vending-like machine near the door with the menu on it. It basically consists of a few different Ramen broths with a handful of different additions to choose if you so desire. Put your money in, press the buttons for what you want, and out comes your little order ticket.

Then, you walk in to see that there’s only 8-10 chairs along the bar. Grab a seat. Every few seats are trays of condiments, things like soy sauce, togarashi, toothpicks, boxes of tissue for the runny nose the hot ramen will give you. There’s also little spickets of hot water with tea cups and green tea for you to make as you like along with a cold water dispenser. Hand the ticket across the bar and ma and pa make your food.

I ordered the Bakabuta Ramen and Yuki got the Miso Ramen with mushrooms. Both were miso broth with loads of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, green onions, and black woodear mushrooms. Both came with a slice of roasted pork. “Buta” in Japanese means pig, so mine had extra pork. Two big pieces of fall off the bone sweet fatty pork. Each bite coated your lips with fatty goodness. Yuki’s had extra woodear mushrooms as well as what I think were eryngii mushrooms. If I’m wrong Yuki will correct me after she reads this and I’ll correct the blog.

Since we both love pork and mushrooms we arranged a deal. I gave her some pork, she gave me a few more mushrooms. A fair trade I think.

It’s too bad that 25 cent packages of dried ramen noodles killed the idea here in America. A nice big bowl of fresh ramen like this is fast, cheap, filling but not overly heavy, and healthy. In fact, just thinking about it makes me crave some ramen. I think I’ll make some for dinner tonight.

A beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime is our ultimate goal when treating patients. Your personal home care plays an important role in achieving that goal. It starts at home by eating balanced meals, reducing the number of snacks you eat, and correctly using the various dental aids that help control the plaque and bacteria that cause dental disease.

Tooth brushing – Brush your teeth at least twice a day (especially before going to bed at night) with an ADA approved soft bristle brush and toothpaste.

1.
Place the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums and gently brush using a small, circular motion, ensuring that you always feel the
bristles on the gums.
2.
Brush the outer, inner, and biting surfaces of each tooth.
3.
Use the tip of the brush to clean the inside of the front teeth.
4.
Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

Electric toothbrushes are also recommended. They are easy to use and can remove plaque efficiently. Simply place the bristles of the electric brush on your gums and teeth and allow the brush to do its job, several teeth at a time.

Flossing – Daily flossing is the best way to clean between the teeth and under the gumline. Flossing not only helps clean these spaces, it disrupts plaque colonies from building up, preventing damage to the gums, teeth, and bone.

1.
Take 12-16 inches (30-40cm) of dental floss and wrap it around your middle fingers, leaving about 2 inches (5cm) of floss between the
hands.
2.
Using your thumbs and forefingers to guide the floss, gently insert the floss between teeth using a sawing motion.
3.
Curve the floss into a “C” shape around each tooth and under the gumline.Gently move the floss up and down, cleaning the side of each
tooth.

Floss holders are recommended if you have difficulty using conventional floss.

Rinsing – It is important to rinse your mouth with water after brushing, and also after meals if you are unable to brush. If you are using an over-the-counter product for rinsing, it’s a good idea to consult with your dentist or dental hygienist on its appropriateness for you.

Use other dental aids as recommended by your dentist or dental hygienist: Interdental brushes, rubber tip stimulators, tongue cleaners, irrigation devices, fluoride, medicated rinses, etc., can all play a role in good dental home care.

One of the procedures we have here at Walnut Hill Dental is the Zoom! teeth whitening system. It is a fantastic procedure that produces some of the most spectacular results.

Your smile is important. It’s one of the first things you notice when you meet someone. A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful – it can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression

Your lifestyle and the aging process can stain and darken your teeth. Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine or smoking.

Whitening can get your smile looking its best. Non-professional procedures and clinically unproven teeth whitening tips can often lead to unsatisfactory results, you should look for a whitening procedure that is:

	Fast and convenient
Long lasting
Low sensitivity
Proven to be safe and effective
Performed by a Dental Professional
