Do you ever feel like your faith is getting a gut check? Or that doubts and question plague your mind? I like to ask questions. When I was younger my mom would get so annoyed with all my questions, “Why…?” “What if….?” “How come…?” At times she would pleasure me by giving answers, but when it just got to be too much 20-Questions she would say, “That’s enough.” I still ask a lot of questions. Just ask my wife and she will agree. I am curious.

I am glad that God does not say, “That’s enough,” when we come to Him with questions. He doesn’t get annoyed or have a question quota. He welcomes our questions and doubts. The older I get I ask God more and more questions. Truth be known, many of our heroes of faith in the Bible had serious questions and doubts they poses to God. If you were honest, I would guess you struggle with doubts at times. What are your biggest doubts?

There are different levels of doubters. First, there are doubters with the little “d” who do not have major doubts they are fight with at the moment, but they might one day. Second, there are Doubters with a big “D” who actively doubt, doing battle with nagging questions that come in like a ferocious front line attacking over and over again. Third, there are those who are dead. The only way to not have doubts is when you kick the bucket.

Since God is invisible we bound to have periods of doubt. We will have times in our life when our have has gone flat like a 2-liter bottle of Coke or when our faith has the full-blown flu. We ask questions like: Does God really love me? Can He really forgive the bad I’ve done? Why does He allow such pain and suffering? How can evolution and biblical creation be at odds? What about other gods from other religions? What if I were born somewhere else in the world? These are real and good questions.

Overcoming doubt is all about what we do with our questions and where we take our questions. Dealing with doubt can electrify our faith. Here are some truths about doubt:

Doubt is different than unbelief. Doubt does not mean you do not believe. I seriously believe in a God that saves, but I do have some serious doubts about God at times. The word doubt comes from the Latin, “dubet re” which means wavering between two issues or bouncing back and forth between two options. The word, believe means to be in one mind about something I agree or trust. The words are different in nature.

Doubts can become unbelief. If we do not deal with our doubt in the right way it can become unbelief. Doubts can become like bunnies, you might have two today, but tomorrow you will have a thousand if not deal them urgently. Doubts can choke out your faith like an uncontrollable weed. Remember, it is where we take our doubts. If all your questions were answered there would be no need for faith. Faith says, “I do not have all the answers, but I know One who does.” [Mark 9:24, “Immediately the boys father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me to overcome my unbelief!”]

Doubts are not a cosmic crime. Doubting is not the same as sinning. When John the Baptist saw Jesus he said, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”  He saw the Holy Spirit descend like a dove. Later he was thrown into prison. For Johnny-B this is where the rubber met the road. How did the baptizer of Jesus respond? He doubted [Luke 7:18-19]. I love the way Jesus responded to John’s questions [7:28]. Note where John goes with his doubts and questions, to Jesus. Remember, it is what we do with our doubts that matter. Who do you go to?

Doubts can distance us from God or can draw us to Him. I love my wife. I definitely take her for granted when we are together. I do not concentrate on her character, voice, beauty, her sweet spirit, and all that has drawn me to her. I do not fully appreciate her until we are apart. It is when I am sitting in my office working or away on a trip and she is not there, then I appreciate her fully. It is the same way with doubt. When we feel distant from God, He uses those times to draw us near to Him.

What are you doing with your doubts? Are you allowing them to defeat you? Or are you allowing God to deepen your faith? How can you win the bout with doubt when your faith fizzes flat? First, Go to God. Ask God, “What is my driving doubt?” Admit you do not understand, but are willing to listen. Second, if you have not already, receive Jesus Christ. Beginning a relationship with God brings you close to Him. Sin separates you from Him, but forgiveness brings you freedom. Third, get off the island. Don’t doubt alone. As a kid I would watch Gilligan’s Island. It was the same story every week. Even thought the Professor could build satellite dishes our of bamboo and radios with coconuts they could not get off the island. They tried too much on their own. Do doubt in church, small group, with others you trust in the faith.

If you don’t deal with doubt it will deal with you. The result will be a TKO punch to your faith.

 “Do not but this product” 2009-09-28

This product was very dissapointing for me. Here is why:

1. Dip bars slide left to right no matter how tight the bolts and nuts are. Very unsafe for doing dips. Very poor construction. Need to weld the joints to really use this for dips.

2. Pull up bar gets in the way when doing a dip. Front pull up bar design is terrible

3. I am 6ft tall and the unit is too short to do any decent pull ups. Also, the rubber/foam pull up grips slide right off. Very poor design. Useless.

The only thing this thing is good for is leg lifts and taking up space. I will be contacting the vendor about this. DO NOT BUY THIS TYPE OF EQUIPMENT WITHOUT TRRING IT OUT FIRST. I will be selling this on craigslist.

I’d read shipping horror stories for products similar in size and weight, but my package arrived on time without a scratch. Product went together in a snap, without any missthreaded bolts, etc. Quality is as expected and paid for. Good product, plenty capable of supporting my 210#, 6′-1″ frame.

I don’t have a basis for comparison with other similar products, but I’ve been very happy with the power tower. It’s quite sturdy and no sign of bending anywhere in the frame. I like that all the exercises are done on one side so that it fits more easily in a small room. It’s low enough that you do have to bend your knees during some exercises, but this has not been a problem for me, and if it were much taller it wouldn’t fit in some rooms. Overall great product.

I’ve stated years ago  that “RJJR” should have retired while he was ahead. I suppose the competitive spirit of boxing would not let him give it all up that easy.  In this fight against Australian champion Danny Green, The RJ we once knew and loved was put to rest. Sad to see it go down like that but on a more + note….The ladies holding the US flags were nice to a nice touch. I got to have em!!!

Until we see another larger than life heavyweight champion, boxing will always take a backseat to UFC.

Kind of weak to stop the fight TKO style in the first round.

50 Cent was in Las Vegas and visited the champ Floyd along with Tia Kemp, Rick Ross’ son and Diddy.

I saw this animated gif and just had to post it here. It is very well made and is a tribute to Fedor Emelianenkos powerful hands.

The Nov. 7 Strikeforce bout between heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers was watched by millions across the globe, and I am sure the event left no MMA fan disappointed.

Rogers surprised many by taking Fedor into the second round, and he also opened a nasty cut on the bridge of Fedors nose in the beginnning of round 1. Fedor still won the first round and after getting his cut looked at by his corner, he came out and finished Rogers with a crushing right hand followed by some quick ground and pound.

Before the fight, Rogers stated he would not let the huge name of Fedor get to his head, and that he would treat him like any other opponent. He said was going to hurt Fedor. After the fight Rogers had to admit he gave the Ukraine born russian too much respect and was hesitant to let his hands go. Then he continued to claim that if there was a rematch, the end result would be very different. I must say he came across as a sore loser while struggling to come to grips with his first defeat. Personally I was impressed with Rogers performance, but his post fight comments were uncalled for, and I am sure he would have gained a lot more respect in the MMA world if he showed a little humility. After all, there is no shame in losing to Fedor, especially after taking him to the second round and showing the world he did actually deserve to be in that cage.

Next in line for “The Last Emperor” might be Fabricio Werdum. Werdum won a hard fought decision against fellow Brazilian Antonio Silva, who came off a 6 win streak. Many fans, including myself, are anticipating a future bout between Fedor and Alistair Overeem. Overeem is the current Strikeforce HW champion, and Fedor wants that belt. Will Overeem come back to the US to defend his title anytime soon? I think it’s about time, as one should not be able to remain the champ for years without defending the belt.

Rising superstar Gegard Mousasi, also showcased his talent in a TKO victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou on this actionpacked card. Mousasi is such a great talent, I feel it is only right to do a feature article about him soon. So watch out for that one.

Overall the Strikeforce event was a great night of MMA action. Strikeforce/M-1 Global/CBS should be very happy, and MMA fans around the world sure got their moneys worth.

Didn’t see the fight last night? Well, don’t expect it to see it any time online since HBO has exclusive rights to the footage and has removed all videos of highlights of the fight all around the web, especially youtube. I actually missed the fight, so unfortunately for me, I’m going to have to wait, listen to my friends, and look through the pictures. From what I’ve been reading and hearing, it was pretty epic. Pacquiao left with a few bruises and cuts while Cotto was saved by the ref in the final stanza and apparently couldn’t see from both eyes. Ouch. Pacquiao won a seventh title in a seventh weight class, picking up the WBO welterweight title via TKO at 0:55 of the 12th round.

Wow, Pac-man. Wow.

We took CB’s Mom to see Wicked at the Gershwin theatre on Saturday. I’m not a big Broadway musical fan, so I was surprised to find it quite entertaining. It’s not common to find a Broadway play with two female leads, and the two ladies who played Glinda and Elphaba were delightful and very talented in their own ways. After the show, we had a light dinner at Bouchon in the Time Warner Center. We had tomato soup and grilled cheese (fontina and gruyere) with a simple mesclun salad. To top off the night, we headed over to the bakery counter for TKO (which tastes like a grown up version of an Oreo) and Linzer Tart cookies.

The culinary highlight of my weekend was going to the Brooklyn Flea on Sunday. Brooklyn Flea is a mishmash of a craft fair and garage sale, and takes place every weekend in two locations (Fort Greene and Dumbo, under the Brooklyn Bridge). It has the usual grandma tchotchkes, wobbly side tables, vintage clothing and sour-smelling melamine jewelry. Not to disparage them because I love an old flea bargain as much as any Park Slope hipster.

But what’s unexpected and delightful were the food vendors! I think I died a lard-induced heart-attack and went to diabetic heaven!!

There was Pizza Moto, a mobile wood-burning oven pizzeria where I wolfed down a Margherita pizza with spicy pepperoni. Then it was onto Choncho’s Tacos for fish tacos of deep-fried cod in a light batter with all the fixings: green onions and cream sauce, tomatillo salsa, red onions and cabbage with a twist of lime. Then there were the pickle duos–Rick’s Picks and McClure’s Pickles. I’ve been a long time fan of Rick’s Picks. My favorites are his Caul of the Wild (Cauliflower pickled in a golden curry brine) and Smokra (Okra smothered in paprika with a kick of cayanne pepper).

CB scored a 2 lb. jar of Garlic and Dill Spears from McClure’s Pickles. We were informed that you can make more pickles by adding fresh cukes to the brine, or if booze is your inclination, add the brine to kick up your Bloody Mary.

So what else was there that was good to eat? There were two chocolate vendors (Nunu Chocolates which had delicious caramel truffles and a vegan, non-diary chocolatier, Fine + Raw Chocolate). There were beautiful and tasty apple turnovers, plum tarts, and cookies the size of flying saucers. I couldn’t resist getting one of the huge chocolate chip cookies that a perfect ratio of walnuts and semi-sweet and dark chocolates in every nibble. Also there were lobster rolls, pappusas which were corn tortillas stuffed with meat and cheese, and kimchi hot dogs from Asia Dog.

It wasn’t all about food though. I scored a framed 1950’s Baby Ruth ad for five buckaroos: “Candy enriched with Dextrose!”
