There are many types of birds, animals, insects, trees, fruit, vegetation, padi fields, flowers, beautiful beaches, refreshing waterfalls, forest hiking tracks, local food and many more.

If you see a level where a Toad is trapped go into the level and save him. The type of Mushroom House that appears will depend on the last digit of the time counter.

After you finish the final castle in World 8, you can save anywhere in the map. A Save option will appear where the Quick Save option used to be.

After you beat the game, World 9 is unlocked. Collecting all Star Coins in a world unlocks the corresponding level.

• Hatless Mario

  Collect 99 lives at any point during the game. Upon returning to the map screen, Mario will not be wearing his hat. Lose a life, and Mario’s hat will return.

   

• Original End Level Fanfare from Super Mario Bros.

  When you beat the first level of the game, as well as beat a level while rescuing a captured toadstool (1-player only) the old 8-bit end level fanfare will play from the first Super Mario Bros.

Secrets

• Free Coins from Dancing Flowers

  Every dancing flower will give you one coin if you Spin Jump (flick Wiimote upwards) from a Neutral position.

   

• Unlimited Mushroom Houses *new*

  Get five stars on your save file by beating the game, collecting all the star coins in worlds 1-8, all the star coins in world 9, finding all the exits from a level and using every mushroom house and cannon on the map and you’ll get a message saying everything has been cleared. Mushroom Houses will never go away, letting you max out your items.

When we saw this video we could really only think of one thing and one person. This young man is the type of person who clearly has no room to be criticizing our boy Fitty. Nonetheless he continues to rail against him and, more for the spectacle than anything else, people watch and listen.

Anyone else see where we’re going with this?

Now, the Ulticritic has some good points and we don’t want to take that away from him by joining the masses of folks that simply mock him because of his, *ahem*, unconventional style. That being said, we find it interesting that he continues to piss into the wind on RSD.

Why doesn’t he do something about all the things he says? Why doesn’t he, at least like Frank Huguenard, create something new? If Ultimate is as hopeless as he says.

To be honest, we couldn’t really care less about whether or not Ultimate is ever on ESPN. We love to game to play the game. Perhaps this will change as we get older but for now, we don’t see any necessary changes. Sure, the game isn’t perfect, but baseball has been around for over 100 years and even after this postseason, the MLB still sees no reason to adopt instant replay.

Change takes time, but for now, we’re content to toss the disc with some of our best friends and have debates with other people about whether or not we were both vying for unoccupied space or if we were careening out of control into space already occupied.

Neste domingo, 15, houve o lançamento mundial do novo jogo da Nintendo, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Em São Paulo o evento ocorreu no hotel Caesar Business, na Av. Paulista. Quem se inscreveu antes ganhou boné vermelho com M de Mario (O RLY?) e uma camiseta bacanuda. Quando cheguei fiquei assustado com a quantidade de gente. A fila para entrar ia até a rua Augusta! A Av Paulista estava tomada pela galera de boné vermelho! E o público ia desde crianças que não tinham idéia do que era Super Mario Bros 3, até nerds gordos que dão muito medo. Melhor deixar esse último de lado…

Jogar qualquer Mario Bros. é sinônimo de nostalgia. A Nintendo sabe disso e aposta forte em New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a nova velha aventura 2D de Mario e seus amigos de batalha! A história é a de sempre, a princesa Peach está dando uma festa com seus amigos Mario, Luigi e Toads amarelo e azul, quando Bowser Jr resolve colocar a princesa do reino dos cogumelos no bolo e levá-la para seu castelo para brincar um pouco com a coitada (?). Para salvá-la os quatro amigos passarão por oito mundos cheios de novos desafios usando velhos poderes já conhecidos como a flor de fogo, flor de gelo e a estrela da invencibilidade, bem como novos poderes que são a hélice a roupa de pinguim, que dá aquela adiantada nas fase com água!

Você usa o Wii Remote e com o botão 1 corre e usa os poderes adquiridos, com o botão 2 pula. Simples, como nos velhos tempos. Com gráficos de encher os olhos, NSMBWii trás o tradicional modo História, com direito a moedas vermelhas e estrelas para poder desbloquear filmes que mostram onde estão as áreas secretas de cada fase, e o mais importante, colecionando todas você desbloqueia uma super área secreta acessível após o término do jogo!

Há dois modos multiplayer em que você joga nas fases já finalizadas no modo História. O Free Mode é basicamente um replay da fase com seus amigos. No Coin Mode é que a graça reside! Vence quem conseguir coletar mais moedas. E vale tudo, desde carregar seu amigo e jogá-lo no buraco mais próximo, ou pular sobre a cabeça dele para alcançar moedas. Quer dizer, um caos! Quando um jogador perde a vida ele deve chacoalhar o controle para reaparecer no jogo dentro de uma bolha de sabão (lembra de Yoshi’s Island?). Continue chacoalhando para chegar próximo de um amigo e estourá-la!

Este é considerado o Mario mais difícil de toda a série. Por isso, no modo História há uma inovação, o modo Super Guide. Após perder oito vidas na mesma fase você pode escolher assistir Luigi jogando a fase para você!  Caso exista algum chefe de fase ele também te mostra o modo mais fácil e rápido de vencê-lo! Claro, este modo não revela onde está a moeda vermelha ou a estrela, nem o cano secreto. Mas já é uma grande ajuda para você não querer jogar o controle longe naquela maldita fase da água! No modo História a sensibilidade do controle também é explorada de várias maneiras.

Saudoso até no som, New Super Mario Bros. Wii é um game que se sustenta por si só. Só estou com dúvidas no fator replay do modo História. Já o multiplayer caótico é diversão garantida.

No final do evento dei um abraço no Rafael Gomes, meu homônimo e responsável pela Nintendo na América Latina, pensando que íamos nos fundir e tal. Infelizmente não aconteceu. Já pensou eu responsável pela Nintendo na América Latina? Agora coitado dele se minha vida fosse a que prevalecesse…

"Its me, Mario! Tá bão assim?"

Just in time for the holidays, Nintendo pulls a winner out of its hat with New Super Mario Bros. Wii (their titles get worse & worse). Despite the dumb title and despite the fact that you have to save the princess for the billionth time since 1984 when SMB first hit arcades. I personally feel that Nintendo has dropped the ball by not milking this as some sort of 25th anniversery edition, but that is not up to me.

Mario, Luigi, Blue and Yellow Toad are out to save Princess Toadstool. The Toads have basically been thrown in to give four different characters for the various multiplayer modes, one of which is the main game. For the first time, Mario enthusiasts can enjoy the main story mode with up to three other friends and play simultaneously. Familiar power-ups return like the mini, super and 1UP mushrooms, fire flower, super star, Yoshis and the POW block. As with any Mario title, there has to be something new and this one does not disappoint: Ice Flowers, Penguin Suits, propeller mushrooms, propeller blocks and glow blocks (to light your way through caves). With six worlds of mushroom kingdom madness and multiplayer games to battle your friends in, this is a definite stocking stuffer if you did not pick it up yesterday (at Nintendo World) or at retail locations everywhere today! Three out of four My Take Radio staff members give it two big thumbs up (the fourht has not played it yet)!

Any Ideas?

Super busy at the moment. Next weekend I’m supposed to be going to Bar Camp 4 in Singapore – and I want to have the time to myself. I wonder how that will work out!

I posted my Christmas cards at the post office. Then I sat in the park for a while, frowning at all the happy people. Repelled by their laughs and smiles, I decided to sit on my own (best company and all that). Anyway, so I sat until this little fella hopped past. Amazing camoflague. He was very small (may be 1 1/2″ long) and when he sat still – he just disappeared. I’m trying to work out what he is.

The Kihansi spray toad used to live in the spray region of the Kihansi waterfall, in Tanzania, and relied heavily on the spray from the waterfall to maintain a constant temperature and humidity in its environment. But due to the construction of a dam which funded by the World Bank, the waterfall has been disrupted, and the Kihansi spray toad has recently been declared Extinct in the Wild.

A number of small populations of this species exist in US zoos, and in spit of several setbacks with the initial population of 500 animals that were collected, the current population now sits at around 470 animals.

How many more species will become extinct in the wild, relying entirely on ex situ “ark” populations for their survival, before we start to take better care of our planet and ALL of its inhabitants?

Let me ask you something. If someone sent you this video, would you still be friends with them? Or would you, like me, be incredibly disturbed by this animal-on-animal rape that you wouldn’t ever look at nature in the same way again? And therefore, feel really weird around that person?

Chris: The sound of the child crying in the background perfectly captures my own reaction to everything about this video. There’s not enough hot water in the world to wash off this dirty feeling.

Chris: I think there are some states in which you could bring that person up on charges for sending you this. Not sure if Cali is one of them.

Remember back when the smallest thing in a game could set you into a fit of rage? I’m not talking lunacy here but enough to make you want to eat your controller. What happens if it’s someone else’s doing? New Super Mario Bros Wii is deceptively kind with it’s visuals and fairly non-threatening enemies but the multiplayer component could leave you less than happy with the people you’ve played with. The guys at Giant Bomb put together a quick look with all four playing (which goes down to only three very early on!) demonstrating the frustrations and amusement multiplayer brings to a Mario game. It’s good viewing and perked my interest in the game once more. Enjoy!

Black Stone or Toad Poison

It’s hallucinogenic toad poison that contains the active ingredient Bufotenin which happens to be the same thing that makes you trip when you lick the back of a certain toad.  Apparently it has aphrodisiac properties that’ll send you to the moon. • Cal, obviamente.

Pegue a garrafa, coloque a água, coloque o cal (não necessáriamente nessa ordem), feche a garrafa, chaqualhe, jogue pra onde seu nariz apontar. BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM (nem faz esse estouro todo).
Pronto, se você conseguiu parabéns, você é o Bin Ladem de sua rua.

Oh, it was a fun, fun night! Did you figure out who I was? Well, here it is:

Lady Gaga (and her friend Tyrone...)

Lady Gaga! It was so much fun, and everyone knew who I was supposed to be. A lot of people didn’t even know that it was me (maybe it wasn’t the costume). Props to the other Lady Gaga that night, rocking the spiked shoulder piece. The one thing I was missing was a Disco Stick, but overall, I was very happy with how it turned out in the amount of time I had.

My favorite costume of the night goes to the Tetris pieces at The Pub! They were well-made, and totally creative, and they could all be fit together! Unfortunately, I didn’t stay to see if they won the costume contest or not, and I haven’t heard anything, but they were number one in my book (not that it actually counts for anything)!

My second favorite costume goes to my sister and her roommates in Bellingham, WA. She and her four roommates decided it was going to be a Mario Party at their house, and dressed accordingly. I know it seems a bit biased, but once you take a look at the pictures, you’ll see that they truly were great costumes. I have it on good authority (aka straight from the horse’s mouth) that the costumes were homemade, with a good deal of felt, glue, and pleather going into them. They also won a $100 prize at the Halloween party they attended!
