HWA’s 1st Annual Float Trip was a great success. Ten staffers and a few significant others braved the Niangua River together. Two nights of camping, one long day on the river and lots of delicious campfire cuisine. We are looking forward to returning to the river next year!

I recently returned from a trip to Chicago and just had to share a few of my snapshots.  The weather was beautiful the entire trip with some of the bluest skys I have ever seen.  Check it out:

We opened up the studio to our four legged friends over the weekend.  In cooperation with Wayside Waifs and DE Lofts Tom Schmidt Photography hosted Dog Days at the studio.  In addition to all the great pictures, we raised $150 dollars donated to Wayside Waifs!  Check out a few of the dogs (and one cat!) that came by.

There is a Dog Parade on June 13th at 11 am on Delaware Street, City Market area Kansas City.  Tom Schmidt Photography will have his studio open for pet photos (not just dogs, all pets welcome) that day from 9 am to 3 pm. This is a postcard I designed for the Wine Walk on Delaware. Starting on March 21, 2009 several local businesses on Historic Delaware Street will be hosting a wine walk each month (in the warmer months). Some of the businesses participating are Cafe Al Dente, Cara and Cabezas Contemporary, DElofts, Eljay’s River Market Coffee House, Hair Spray Cafe, River Market Art Co., Silk Road Travelers, Tom Schmidt Photography and Urban Dwellings Design Ltd.  All are welcome to join in on the fun. It’s only $15/person and if you visit Eljay’s River Market Coffee House at 412 Delaware Street anytime between 3-6 pm on March 21 you receive a map and you can begin your wine walk there. Photo taken by Tom Schmidt. 

Below are a few postcards I’ve designed for Tom Schmidt Photography, to go with his new engagements brand. These postcards will be passed out at a Bridal Show Tom is attending in a few weeks located the convention center in Overland Park, Kansas. Tom’s studio is located in the City Market downtown Kansas City, Missouri. 

So about a year and half ago I worked with Tom of Tom Schmidt Photography to create this logo below. On this side of Tom’s photography business he focuses on senior photos, fashion and commercial. 

This year he wanted to recreate his brand for his wedding business (him and his dad work together shooting weddings, Tom shoots the engagements). This is what we came up with:

Since Tom does the engagements on his own and the photo shoots are a totally different feel – more grungy and fun, he wanted to brand that as well. Below is the new engagement logo.

Tom Schmidt, my son if you didn’t figure that out, just opened a new studio in Kansas City. We put a lot of effort into getting it ready to shoot and meet clients. Its ready to go now and Tom is getting settled and geared up to shoot in the studio and all the new locations that KC has to offer. Here is a post from Monday’s shoot. There have been some huge developments at Tom Schmidt Photography… and a new studio is on the way!!  I have signed on the line for an awesome space at 309 Delaware St. in the heart of the River Market in Kansas City.  We have started rehab work this week and hope to be done within about 2 weeks.  Yesterday I manned an angle grinder clearing out the old bolts left in the floor.  Today we will be grinding down the concrete floor throughout the entire space in preparation for a coat of epoxy on Friday.  If I can still move when I get home tonight, I will pick the winners from the contest and post the names from each school (sorry for the delay…)  Click back for updates on the new studio, it is going to awesome!!

We had a great time photographing Stephanie and Nathan’s wedding in Clinton, Missouri. Nathan and a bunch of his groomsmen are police officers in Clinton and of course we had to get out the guns and a patrol car. After the wedding we stopped by Nathan’s parent’s home to catch a few country shots. The light was absolutely perfect, check it out!

Another absolutely beautiful day in Kansas City for pictures.  It  was a good thing because Kerri and David had traveled in from Texas for their shoot.  (wow, that makes me feel important, haha)   We started at the park around the Nelson Art Gallery, which was a new spot for me, but it was so nice, I will be back.  Then we were back to my neighborhood for some colorful, quaint downtown shots.  Next up, The Bottoms, always one of my favorites.  David and Kerri fell in love bicycling together so of course I chased them down the road for a few.  Check it out.  Don’t forget to watch the slideshow!!

This is a first draft album design for Kelly and Curt’s wedding in Sedalia, Missouri.  We shot out at the Missouri State Fairgrounds for a fun and funky set of group shots.  The wedding was at the Bothwell Hotel downtown Sedalia.

These sculptures are by my former neighbor and friend Mandi Salov who taught me to make the best egg sandwiches on the planet. She just finished her MFA from the University of Missouri last May. Since then went Anderson Ranch in Colorado to teach for the summer and is now making art at the University of Arkasas. Her work is a little funky, but very nicely done. Enjoy.

I recently finished up a pile of senior portrait orders and wanted to share a few.  Check out the mountain of boxes that went out just before Christmas!!! It was slightly crazy, but with a little help from Beth and Justine, and my retouch man Jonny, we knocked them out.  Enjoy.

I shot this bike a few weeks ago, but was working on the prints so I thought I would share a few.  My girlfriend’s dad has been into Harley’s since he was a kid, but this was his first rebuild.  We photographed it in front of their house and on a country road.  We hit the spot at the most perfect time and I caught some really cool stuff.  Please feel free to share comments.  Enjoy.
