Hailed as one of Britain’s best bands, Welsh quintet Funeral for a Friend have enjoyed seven years of rock success that have seen them triumphantly breaking into the lucrative US and European markets, playing all the major rock festivals around the world and sharing a stage with metal elite – Iron Maiden.

Funeral for a Friend’s drummer, Ryan Richards, has been using Toontrack’s Superior Drummer 2.0 in recent months and explained to Time+Space what a difference it has made…

“I can´t begin to express how much easier Superior Drummer has made my life. We´re now able to do studio quality recordings at home which aid the demoing and b-side process unbelievably – at a fraction of the price of going in to record drums at a “real” studio.

I´m able to blast out my jams on my e-drums at full volume with headphones on, hence keeping the wife onside and marriage intact.

If I´m feeling particularly lazy I can use the awesome preset midi beats and present them to my band and fool them into thinking I´ve been slogging away at my kit, when, in fact, I´ve actually been watching the footie with a cold beer.

I´m also able to rip of some of my favourite producers´ tones by selecting their custom presets, rather than endlessly browsing forums in search of the magic formulas to those particular drum sounds.

Toontrack has announced the return of a sample library classic!

The Custom and Vintage SDX is a re-release of the award winning Toontrack Music sample packs Superior Custom and Vintage and Superior Vintage Add-on (both released for the original Superior Drummer software) and they have now been combined to form the The Custom and Vintage SDX for Superior Drummer 2.0.

Apart from extensive stick and brush recordings of a unique collection of drums and cymbals it also features mixer presets by producer Peter Henderson and custom MIDI by drummer Chris Whitten.

The SDX gives everyone from top producers down, access to the cream of custom and vintage drums, built by craftsmen from the 1920’s right up to the exceptional instrument makers of today, like Johnny Craviotto.

The Custom and Vintage SDX is played by Chris Whitten. The drummer on classic hits like ‘What I Am’ by Edie Brickelland The New Bohemians and ‘The Whole Of The Moon’ by The Waterboys, Paul McCartney’s ‘Flowers In The Dirt’ album.

The Custom and Vintage SDX is produced by Peter Henderson a key figure in producing Supertramp´s 20 million selling album ‘Breakfast In America’, for which he won a Grammy. He has also worked with Paul McCartney, Rush, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Tina Turner and Ringo Starr.

Following the release of The Lost New York Studios back in March, Toontrack have delivered their eagerly awaited second expansion pack for Superior Drummer 2.0.

The Metal Foundry SDX is an all-new recording with Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake, featuring seven massive drum kits, spanning 300,000 sound files of raw, single hit drum recordings in the vein of Drumkit From Hell and dfh Superior, covering Hard Rock to Metal, from the early Blues tinged sound of the late 60s to the fragmentation of today’s music, from Power through Thrash, Death and Progressive Metal.

This new download pack from Toontrack contains more than 400 MIDI files, individually played by drummer Peter Fredlander.

Like other MIDI files included in Toontrack’s drum samplers, The Monster MIDI Pack is split up by hats intro variations; hats open/closed grooves; cymbal grooves; hats/ride sidestick grooves; tom and snare grooves; fills; and intro fills. The pack is available as 4/4 straight and 4/4 swing in various tempos.

The grooves are made for standard drum kits with one kick, one snare, two toms, one floor tom, two crash cymbals and one ride cymbal.

Of course, the MIDI files also work with Toontrack’s EZdrummer and Superior Drummer 2.0, but with the help of EZplayer Pro, you can use the files with many other drum samplers as well.
