As far as album covers go, Leona Lewis’ “Echo” is definitely a very simple and very clean cover. There is nothing “holy shit!” about it, but at the same time, there’s a bit of a striking-ness to it.

It’s really nice to see an album cover that doesn’t totally fail on the text. I have had my fair share of covers with text that I couldn’t read AT ALL, which I find very stupid. I know the pictures important, but it’d be nice to know what the title of the darn thing is here. The one thing that bothers me though is that I wish the title “Echo” was below her name. That might just be me being really anal though.

One of the things that fascinates me most about Leona is how she is such a chameleon. I’m not sure if it’s just not me, but she is always sporting a dramatically different look. I kinda have a hard time figuring if that actually is her. And yes, that chameleon comment applies here too. I had to double check on her other pictures to make sure this actually was her.

And Damn, she is quite a beautiful woman in this picture. Nothing says “beautiful” like a very bare bones shot like this one. I’m surprised to find how gorgeous she is with her hair all wet and pulled back. We really get to see her features. Yes, I know theres makeup involved, but still. I just can’t over those beautiful lips!

However, the one thing I really do not like about this album cover is what she’s doing with her face. She’s doing a “Jennifer” face. If you remember Jennifer, she was the only Asian contestant in cycle 13 of ANTM, and she had a habit of constantly keeping her mouth open.

Yes, the fact that Leonas mouth is opening is bothering me. However, I’m happy to say that it doesn’t make her look “whory” like how Jennifer was in her Goddess Photoshoot. I think it’s the eyes that makes the open mouth look awkward.

The mouth by itself is fine. However, when you take a look at her eyes, it makes her look very dazed and confused. I do not like how it looks like she’s looking in a different direction. It really would have been nice if she looked more directly at the camera. If that did happen, I think she would have really nailed this shot.

America’s Next Top Model has featured two shoots heavily inspired by the theme of “Circus”. Cycle 7 saw the models portraying the different characters who are often part of a touring circus.

Cycle 13 saw the models participate in a “Circus” themed shoot – but this time it also featured members of CIRQUE DU SOLEIL – a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment.”

I’ve only ever been to the Circus twice in my life.

The first time, I went to see a touring Circus company in my local park and have very few memories of the whole experience as I was young. HOWEVER> I was fortunate enough to go to Las Vegas a few years back and went to see Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystère” at the Treasure Island Hotel. It was insane. I can’t explain how unreal and SURREAL the whole spectacle was. The performers perform like i’ve never seen anyone perform. They are able to move their bodies in ways I didn’t think were possible. They’re the best actors. The best dancers. The most innovative and creative beings. It’s such a journey – seeing their art live. I strongly suggest that all of you check out a Cirque du Soleil show once in your life!

RIP Daul Kim

South Korea is yet again mourning one of it’s rising stars. Top model Daul Kim has been found dead in her Paris apartment from an apparent suicide. In the last few years South Korean has been rocked by a spate of suicide of well known singers and actors including Choi Jin-sil, Jung Da Bin, Yuni, Yeo Jae-gu and Ahn Jae-hwan.  While it is too early to speculate the reasons, fingers are once again being pointed at the high pressure of fame and the loss of identity. Ms Kim’s latest blog entries indicated she was struggling to cope, writing in one post she was “mad, depressed and overworked”. It is believed she hanged herself. RIP Daul Kim.

Nothing good can come out of an ANTM episode entitled Hawaiian Hip Hop with an appearance from Seventeen editor, Ann Shoket. Nothing good. Well…if the Gelfling gets sent packing, perhaps.

This cycle’s second to last episode (Hello? How won’t the final 2 be Nicole vs. Kentucky Laura) seems anti-climactic. They’re in Hawaii, which is beautiful, but boooorrrring. What? The wannabe midget models couldn’t get their passports in time or we were economizing because of the recession. Hey, I know Hawaii is super expensive, but it had to have been cheaper than a jaunt to Asia or South Africa, or anywhere in Europe. Where, exactly, is the world-class modeling scene in Hawaii?

Here is everything we need to know. Gelfling knows she’s lucky to still be there. Everyone else hates the Gelfling and wants to send her ass on the first flight back to the mainland. Jennifer and Nicole are in awe of Jennifer’s leg muscles in last week’s photos. Kentucky Laura can’t believe she’s in the Final 4 because not that long ago, she was castrating bulls and cutting hay. She also needs to provide for a gaggle of siblings back on the farm and show them how to be successful. In the words of my mother, Jesus Gutt.

This week’s challenge involves hula krunking. Predictable. And I can’t believe Ty-Ty resisted an opportunity to surprise everyone and bust a move. Okay…so its not hula krunking. It’s hula hip hop. I can’t wait to watch the Gelfling fail miserably.

I’m pretty confident I can learn the moves because I was a cheerleader. I can win.

When the Gelfling talks, this is what I feel like:

The Gelfling thinks she was really helpful to the other girls because of her semi-dance background. I want Nicole to cut the bitch. I want Kentucky Laura to do a dance about castrating bulls.

Things begin to look up when the fabulous Miss J. Alexander arrives on the scene. Anyone who doesn’t love Miss J. can kiss my ass.

Snap judgment: Right now, in a casual and relaxed pre-hula hip hop setting, Jennifer looks the best.

The winner of the challenge will receive a return trip to Hawaii, including a five-night stay at the Four Seasons. Jennifer is the first one up, and no matter how many daggers the Gelfling shoots her way, she still does a good job and impresses their instructor.

Gelfling thinks she’s all that, and maybe she can do the moves, but she’s off from the other gals. She thinks her dance is all about childhood sadness and emerging through it during adolescence, blah blah blah. Miss J. thinks she looks angry. Laura kind of looks a mess, but everyone thinks she told a story and knows how to shake her booty. Nicole looks a bit clueless, but it’s really not going to matter because she will likely win it all. And since part of her story was about awkwardness, she was totally right on. Miss J. then imitates her dance. I love watching Miss J. dance.

THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Inexplicably, or because of her booty, Laura wins. But she’s going to take Jennifer with her back to Maui, so that’s cool. Kentucky Laura has no clue what the Four Seasons is, but Jennifer tells her it is a coveted hotel with a five-star rating and a celebrity clientele.

TYRA MAIL!!!

Something about pressure making you wanting to explode…can we shoot flamethrowers at the Gelfling? Nah…the four gals end up on something called a Secret Beach with Jay Manuel. They’re going to be posing on volcanic rock as a Hawaiian goddess Palay (sp). WHOA. BIG TWIST. Next week’s final episode of the cycle will only feature the last two standing, as TWO girls will be eliminated based on their photo shoot this week. DUN DUN DUN!!!

Jennifer has a bit of trouble in the photo shoot, I think mainly out of nerves. She starts out with a standard “goddess pose” and tries to stay on her tippy toes, even when told not to–of course, what was she supposed to do when Mr. Jay told them all to model H2T–Head-to-Toe (Ugh, TYRA! Stop trying to make it happen!).

Nicole fairs better, obviously, because Nicole is unstoppable in this competition. Mr. Jay thinks she essentially shot a campaign.

Kentucky Laura stumbles around a bit and looks like she’s in pain. She seems awkward. Nicole doesn’t think she can do high fashion or inspire photographers. MEOW. And noooooo. Laura’s performance caused Mr. Jay to say SMIZE. However, I do suspect she got a good photo out of it all, even though Mr. Jay told her she looked a little boozy. Hee hee. She’s nervous about panel. Now let’s see the Gelfling fail.

She promises to look powerful and wrathful in her face. She looks brain dead, like a Zombie Gelfling. Mr. Jay even asks, do you feel pretty? In a poor attempt to soften her face, she sings a pop song “the teenagers listen to” in her head. For chrissake, she is a teenager. She also sounds like a fake twat when thanking the photographer. Yes, indeed. I cannot stand the Gelfling.

There’s gonna be a lot of praying tonight. A lot.

Good god. When did Kentucky Laura start getting all openly religious on us? Of course, if I was sharing a room with the Zombie Gelfling, I may pray, too. Homegirl has evil running through her veins and boogers in her eyes.

TO THE JUDGES! AKA QUALITY TIME WITH NIGEL BARKER

The Gelfling looks like a moron. Kentucky Laura kind of does, too. Alas. Right now, her and Jennifer are oozing personality and hell, both of them still get (another) vacation in Hawaii so let’s do this thing.

Yo, Tyra. I know you’ve embraced your fuller figure since you’ve retired from the catwalk, but honey, those tapered, wide-leg pants aren’t flattering on any figure, let alone yours. Even Mr. J. is freaked the hell out because your ass looks bigger than his sleeves. Nigel is doing everything in his power to divert his attention elsewhere.

The final two will compete/walk in a Julia Clancy fashion show there in Hawaii. And Tyra’s ruched sleeves are hurting my eyes.

Gelfling goes first. Shoket thinks she is glowing. Nigel thinks she looks sexy and points out how you can’t SMIZE in every picture. (YESSSS! Nigel hates that smizing shit, too!) Tyra thinks she lucked out with an amazing shot, but looked sleepy.

Nigel is not into Jennifer’s shot. Shoket thinks her neck disappears. Tyra thinks she forgot her face and had no focus and went all amateur by holding her dress, but a tan looks good on her…which she feels guilty about saying because tanning is BAD. Nigel pipes up and says a tan looks good on everyone. Damn straight, Nigel. How is it you make me fall more in love with you each and every week? You are the reason I still watch this mindless tripe, Nigel Barker, oh yes, you are.

Kentucky Laura is up next. Her outfit is rightfully skewered. Don’t these girls ever learn anything? They think Laura’s best shot is very pretty and compare her to Rachel Hunter, whom I’ve personally never cared for. Honestly, Laura’s face looks a bit crazy crazy crazy. Those are crazy eyes. Crazy eyes!

Miss J sums it up for everyone oh-so eloquently.

You have many faces. I think of the day when I always thought you would be…gold tooth in the mouth full of decay.

The judges cream all over the photo. I still think she looks like a crazy person. Then they turn smizing into smozing or some such nonsense. I have to tune it out.

I have no idea why they chose this photo of Nicole because she had better shots. Her face looks gorgeous, but they don’t think she used her entire body. It doesn’t really matter, though, because we already know Nicole and Laura have it in the bag.

Tyra says this is one of the most dramatic judging panels ever. Yawn. Although they say wonderful things about Jennifer, I still think its Nicole and Laura. Finally we are rid of the Gelfling and it has to be soured by losing sweet Jennifer.

Naturally, Nicole is called first. And rightfully so…now Tyra gets to cut the three girls a final time. It’s all about their strengths and weaknesses, but only one girl has what it takes to be a finalist…blah blah blah…duh. Laura. And we finish tonight’s program with Tyra offering a group hug for Tyra’s sake. Because it’s all about Tyra Tyra Tyra. It looks like she may eat them.

Tyra finishes with some bullshit inspirational speech, which only serves to twist the knife a bit more in Gelfling’s back in a tiny way. She says if she would have made it to the finals if she worked harder. And now the dumb bitch is crying. I can’t take it. Oh, Jennifer, I will miss you. I wish you well.  And you sound like you benefited from the experience, unlike the bitter, dense Erin Wagner, our fair Gelfling.

Oh Gelfling, I have the perfect man for you. His name is Paul, and just like you, he can’t handle the quiet awkward girl getting all the accolades. And just like you, he’s not allowed to go along for the ride.

Americas Next Top Model är det skummaste programmet någonsin eftersom 90% av deltagarna inte ens skulle duga som modeller för KFC. Jag vill inte säga att de är fula, men de är riktigt jävla fula. Dessutom är den mest underhållande och minnesvärda stunden i programmets historia fortfarande den där gången när alla som sökte till programmet flippade ur av att någon skrek om en bomb (kolla in det här). Eftersom Marissa Miller älskar mig över allt annat och vill hjälpa mig att förmedla mitt budskap så var hon med i programmet för att “hjälpa deltagarna på vägen”. Kolla på bilden! Hon får hela gänget att se ut som Samantha Ronson (det till vänster här) och hon försöker inte ens. On last week’s Top Model, Tyra stuck all the girls in blackface and then booted the increasingly likable Brittany Math. This was especially sad because the obnoxious, irritating and all-around just sucky at life Gelfling Erin was saved to annoy us for at least another week.

All the girls hate the Gelfling. I momentarily like Sundai Forehead because she speaks very eloquently about her disdain for the Gelfling. In fact, when Sundai Forehead alludes to her rough background (which I really know nothing about), I’m really not minding her too much this week. I don’t think she should model, but how many of these girls actually make a career out of it post-Tyra?

The morning of the week’s challenge (or what appears to be, as I have no idea how they edited this shit) is also an impromptu birthday celebration for Kentucky Laura. This may be a first, as I do not remember any other contestants in cycle’s past celebrating a birthday while on the show.

My whole life is changing as we speak. I went from castrating bulls, to being on this show –

Whoa. What? Oh Kentucky Laura, please tell me you did that with your awesome Memaw!! Kentucky Laura eats eggs and SPAM for breakfast. Have you ever eaten SPAM? I did for the first time this summer and lemme tell you, sometimes that mutant meat by-product is just soooo good. I refuse to make fun of it anymore. I will provide you with the recipe at the end of the recap.

After breakfast, the girls are whisked away to a deserted beach where Marissa Miller arrives in a canoe with eight Hawaiian men. Victoria’s Secret Angel Marissa Miller is going to teach them how to be sexy — hot-but-not-over-the-top. She actually fills the girls in on an interesting tip, which I swear she only credited Ty-Ty for because Ty-Ty threatened to beat her ass with a turkey leg. Miller informs them women prefer seeing a woman’s curves from the side, where men prefer the straight-on shots. She also explains the concept of Barbie Toe, which means you act like you’re wearing high heels when you’re not by popping the foot up in the same position as Mattel’s cash-cow dream doll.

I like Marissa Miller. She gives the girls pertinent advice…and she hasn’t said SMIZE! Love her! She makes the girls go into the ocean to get wet so they can come back and work on their sexy bikini poses…after the roll around in the sand. Since Jennifer has had a tendency to look too sexy sometimes, according to the esteemed judging panel, I’m hoping she pulls out the goods in this week’s photo shoot.

The girls all have to stand in a shower…while looking sexy as the water washes over them. Gelfling tries to hard. Sundai Forehead looks like she is 5. And Nicole easily nails it although she readily states she has no clue how to be sexy.

Since this week’s theme is obviously how to be sexy, they obviously need to step it up a notch now that they’ve been ordered to stand on a cliff. OH YES. OH YES. Sexy Back is now playing in my mind as a very tanned, toned and gorgeously bald NIGEL BARKER appears.

And then he tells the girls they have to jump off the cliff and into the water. SIGN ME UP. I can’t believe these girls are scared. I would do almost anything Nigel Barker told me to do…especially if he was going to be recording it all with his camera. (Or even, at this point, Jono Night’s camera) Each girl gets only one shot. Kentucky Laura volunteers to go first. The Gelfling says she’ll go next, and how she’s jump off anything, just tell her to do it. Oh please, why make this so easy. I will go find a building for you.

The winner of the challenge will win a $5000 necklace of chocolate pearls…AND extra frames at the next shoot. She, in turn, picks someone else to get extra frames, and then that girl…you get the picture. One person will be left out, and this will obviously be the girl everyone hates (please oh please oh please say the Gelfling).

Nicole is the obvious winner. Her photo was actually pretty damn good, almost unbelievably good for this competition. And YAY!!! No one gives Gelfling Erin extra frames.

No one chose Erin because she’s a little brat and she gets on people’s nerves.

Thank you, Nicole. So true. I love how much you’ve been coming out of your shell. Nicole is gotta win this whole damn thing.

KENTUCKY LAURA’S BIRTHDAY BASH!

Back at Midget Model Manor of Greater Maui, the girls are prepping for a little birthday soiree for Kentucky Laura. Of course, Gelfling has to act crazy and demands accolades for the cupcakes she’s making. The other girls want her to shove a cupcake in it.

Kentucky Laura has a wonderful birthday. She is starting to grow on me, with all her down-home Southern charm or something. But bad editing alert! They show Laura go to bed early before the commercial break, but when we return, all the girls are up and about (still in birthday attire) reading TYRA MAIL. Tomorrow, they will be hanging with some “local natives”.

Russell James will be shooting them…at sea. It is obvious they will not be just posing on a boat. No sireeeee! I have a feeling they will be underwater, given that Mr. James. pops up from the boat’s hull in a wet suit and some other-worldly camera equipment. YUP! I was right. Color me smart. Jennifer is super excited. She even plays Titanic with the Gelfling!

Kentucky Laura goes first, of course, and she freaks out. But she recovers, and everyone is pleased. Nicole hides her nerves like a professional. When she goes down again, she delivers even better photos. Jennifer was too close to the surface on her first round, but she recovers after heeding Mr. Jay’s advice. Sundai Forehead just bitched about her asthma and wouldn’t go down that far, and wouldn’t use the air regulator. I guess she does better the second time.

Gelfling, as well all know, can only go down once. She wouldn’t go deep. Russell James is not impressed. He says he could have shot her in a swimming pool because all the bitch did was hang around just beneath the surface. Yawn. Let’s kick the bitch out now. Let’s just do it.

LET’S ALL GO TO PANEL…LET’S ALL GO TO PANEL (I have that Let’s all go to the movies melody in my head right now, mmm-kay?)

Tyra calls up her little pet Sundai Forehead first. And then she prattled on something about inunciation which, holy hell. I need a clip to best illustrate this Ty-Ty tsunami of nonsense. (Just keep watching…)

After all, lots of people suffer from, asthma. Kentucky Laura’s grammy just sent her a new jacket she made after she saw the real one in Bazaar. They take it away, because it does not look good with her dress. Marissa Miller is soooo smart, she suggests pairing it with jeans and a simple tank top. She is upstaging Ty-Ty. Ty-Ty will remember this and exact her revenge later.

Tyra is super crazy tonight. She starts breathing exercises after Jennifer exhales once they say they like the photo. Personally, I think she just had a mini-orgasm because Nigel said the shot was part dream, part fantasy…sigh, I just exhaled, too…hearing him say such things.

Nicole has a cool photo, but she didn’t do the BARBIE TOE, therefore, it is not as cool as it might have been.

And here comes Gelfling…NIGEL HATES IT and says it looks like a test shot. Tyra tells her to stop trying so damn hard. Uh, yeah. While the judges deliberate, Nigel ends up joking about having a feet fetish. Of course, you know what this means! Ty-Ty has to get in on the conversation, since Marissa Miller and Nigel were having too much fun! What is this show all about, kiddies? It’s all about TYRA!!!

All of it just gets out of control once Ty-Ty gets involved. (BTW, Marissa’s shoes are soooo much cuter than Tyra’s black pumps.)

YAY! Jennifer wins best photo! And then Nicole…she was screwed because of the Barbie Toe. Oh, this is all so obvious. Laura is called next…down to Sundai Forehead and Gelfling Erin. (Was Sundai foreshadowing her demise earlier in the episode, when she would only share stories from her foster child youth if she made it to the Top 4?)

I can’t believe I would have ever been pissed when Sundai Forehead was eliminated.

Are you kidding me??? Kidding me? Against the Gelfling? Why the hell are you people keeping that twat in the competition when she clearly sucks! Bottom 2 THREE WEEKS IN A ROW!!! And uh, yeah…the other girls don’t think it’s fair, either — THIS my be my favorite ANTM scene yet!

BTW, I’ve decided the Most Incredible & Delicious SPAM Recipe Ever deserves its own post, as I do have photos. In the meantime, let’s think about how whitey brought Sundai Love down. But I think Sundai Love is a survivor. She’s make it. All she has to do is find inspiration from Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks). After all, don’t all of us often wish we had the know-how of Ms. Holloway (I refuse to call her Joan Harris now. Plus her idiot husband is just gonna bite it in Nam, anyway…), and we all know if a gal can get through anything, you should always put the smart money on Joanie.
