I finally got my hands on a pair of these fabulous platform metal insert boots!!! I am totally in love with them!!!!!

My first to attempt to get them online failed, as soon as I went to the checkout they were some how sold out, I was not a happy bunny. The following monday they had been re-stocked online so I was soo happy to be able to order them. It gets even better, I find out my brothers girlfriend gets 25% off in topshop, so I did the cheeky and returned them and re bought them at 25% off!! What can I say I love a shoe bargain and we are in the times of recession!

I cannot wait for this pairing to go down, Im not sure about the release dates as yet but im pretty sure this is the Spring/Summer 2010 line for Topshop. Now my first response to seeing these heels was ‘OUCH’ woman who have found their men cheating should definitely but these and give them a good kick with these on!! At second glance im afraid to say I really like them, they are funky, fresh, crazy, quirky and different I can’t wait to see what other shoe designs she will be bringing to topshop. Im obliged to say ‘I think I need a pair in my life’ eeeeeekkkkkkk!!!!

UGH. Another celebrity who should stick to what she’s good at. First it was Kate Moss “d

UGH. Another celebrity who should stick to what she’s good at. First it was Kate Moss “designing” her own line for Topshop, only to be foiled that they were actually designed by London College of Fashion Students and bore uncanny resemblences to her own clothes.

No don’t get me wrong I’m one of Kates biggest fans, I could spend hours Googling her, but thats exactly where I want to see her: 2D, Nice outfit, Usually with her tits out, Pretty Face. Not claiming to be the next Karl Lagerfeld.

Someone please explain to me how this can be “designed” by Kate when she’s clearly wearing the same dress Circa 1998. That’s artistic interpretation too far. What are Kate’s credentials on desiging? There’s being an iconic clothes horse and there’s pattern cutting, measuring the seams, blind stitching. Come off it Kate.

At least Kate has some industry experience. Leona Lewis on the otherhand is singer off a reality show isn’t she? But apparently she seems to have teamed up with ethical embassodor Stella McCartney to design her own vegan clothing line. I’m vehermently against the use of fur in fashion but I can’t help think Leona Lewis could use her new found fame to promote PETA instead on joining the bandwagon of Celebrity ENDORSED fashion lines. Boring. She doesn’t even dress well. I shall wait with baited breath.

A méditer…

Stay Tuned !

So, it may be pretty apparent by now that I have a minor, passing crush on a certain Robert Pattinso

So, it may be pretty apparent by now that I have a minor, passing crush on a certain Robert Pattinson. You may have heard of him…he was in this little indie flick called New Moon…just came out, perhaps you have heard of it?…and, it may have come across as if I was planning on stalking him in NYC…

Hmmm. Maybe. It wasn’t real stalking. Just checked my gossip sites and twitter, etc. to see if he was anywhere in the city.

Sadly, despite my best efforts, I did not see him in NYC this past weekend. I did sense his British hotness in the air though. It’s part of our intense celeb-crazy fan connection. haha

BUT, after seeing this insanity while out shopping in Soho, I am starting to maybe question my stalker tendencies. Robin was with me at this point. We were just leaving Topshop (loved it in there…so many funfunfun things that I will never buy!)…turn right…and see the strangest thing. About 30+ people, standing silently outside of the Madewell store. Staring into the windows…at a distance tho, not taking pix or storming the place. Just standing. I asked one of the men with the gigantic cameras who was in the store and he said ‘Katie Holmes‘…we looked in the window for a sec then moved on. A bit later, I saw her come out and saw all the flashbulbs. Scene repeated when she went into Topshop. It was creepy…like watching golf…the crowd just moved to the next hole, in a manner of speaking.

Not that I don’t like Katie…but I wasn’t going to hang out and gawk if it wasn’t you-know-who. But, the whole scene made me feel yucky. The poor girl was just shopping. What’s the big deal?? I cannot imagine being famous and having idiots follow me around and take pix while I do mundane everyday stuff. The price of fame? I don’t know. Just seemed intrusive and awful. Now don’t go thinking I am canceling my RPattz obsession. I am just starting to get a twinge of guilt. Not growing a conscience for goodness sake! ;-)

But, what if he *had* been the one they were waiting for? Would I have stood there, staring? I like to think that no, I would have walked away…grossed out by the circus. I hope so.

Lizzie Miller weighs 11 stone 1 lbs and when this picture was released in Glamour magazine the small

Lizzie Miller weighs 11 stone 1 lbs and when this picture was released in Glamour magazine the small “roll” on her stomach sparked global debate about whether or not she should be accepted as a model.

The news is claiming that were all getting more obese and were slowly catching up with americans and the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition telling us that we can increase our recommended daily amount of calories by 16%. For those of you who aren’t good at maths like me thats the equivalent of a cheese burger or two bags of ready salted crisps.

Weighing in at 8 stone 5 pounds I know that I make peoples eyes roll. Whats this girl talking about obesity for? She’s not fat. Looking at me you wouldnt think that I weighed that much. I have however only just reached a weight that I’ve been dying to reach for the past 4 years. No I haven’t lost weight. I’ve gained it. I’m proud of that. There are girls bigger than me and there are girls ALOT smaller than me, thats just the way life is. Nobody is perfect, but everyone in their own way is beautiful.

This beautiful that I’m talking about may not be on the surface but it can be stored underneath in a hidden personality, an extremely clever brain or a wicked sense of humour.

I’ve witnessed my friends growing up doubt themselves and I’ve been through my own doubts. Like Lizzie Miller though, I’ve learnt to love my own body.

When I was 18 I watched a friend get so stressed about her own body that she bordered on developing an eating disorder. By eating smaller meals she thought that noone would catch on. She exercised til she was exhausted and didn’t put the calories back into her body. However I did, I confronted her about it and asked her why she was doing it. Her answer? Because she was too fat. Wearing size 12 clothes I didn’t consider my friend to be fat, and neither did our other friends. We kept a close eye on her and then when we begun to worry about her, we told her Mum. Those few months around my 18th birthday were dreadful, my friend never actually developed an eating disorder but it was a tough few months to help her realise that we all thought she was perfect the way she was. Thankfully she’s never gone back to thinking that she’d need to resort to putting herself through that again.

Asking my friend why she had put herself through all of the angst that she did, she said that she wanted to be “skinny” and “pretty” just like the girls in college that looked like they should be in the magazines. My friend couldn’t see the stuff that made everyone love her. Her booming laugh, her caring nature and the ability to make braver style choices than every other “topshop coathanger” in college.

A few of my inspirational ladies

The media has alot to do with influencing the way that young girls picture themselves. Choosing models who only fit the “skinny” criteria to feature on catwalks and in magazines influences what us girls should really look like. The role models featured in these magazines can also have a bad influence on the way that people think. Kate Moss who is deemed one of the best models in the world last week shocked the nation by stating

“Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels”.

I don’t really follow alot of what Kate Moss does, apart from when she releases a new range at Topshop. Like the rest of the nation though I was shocked to see that someone who knows she is a role model to plenty of young girls who are easily influenced. The quote however was originally said by Steven Tyler Aerosmith who had no influence whatsoever on anyones eating habits, the word skinny was originally thin.

For me, I believe that if you love your toothy smile, make the most of your assets and even grow to love that “big” nose you are one of these people that are beautiful and represent a member of today’s real beautiful nation.

In these past few weeks I have become somewhat enamored with all things lace. There is something so tastefully dainty and yet slightly sultry about a peek of lace that adds such a necessary dimension to any outfit. From sheer lacey tanks to meer lace accented booties, there is a captured femininity no other texture can exude. I would venture to say that lace tights are my guilty indulgence this season and so far I have accumulated half of a drawer full already, and I’m just getting started.

Here are some ways I love to show-off my laceys:

Pull on a pair of lace footless tights OVER your regular or denim leggings for a super edgy look. Thank you DenimBlog for this one!

Let your lace tights peek out UNDER a pair of super destroy denim jeans for a rock meets rebel feel, awesome.

Wear some fun patterned lace tights WITH a pair of knee or thigh high (or any height for that matter) boots and your favorite LBD just got an instant make-over.

TRANSITION your short shorts and minis from skin showing summer to chilly winter by throwing on a pair of lace tights underneath.

On the Island I really only had two windows of opportunity for shopping. One was my trip to Gunwharf Quays and the other was my Saturday in Guildford. It was one of the wettest, windiest days I have ever experienced there. Not long after the photo below, the steep Guildford High Street near resembled a cascading waterfall. Umbrellas were completely non-useful for keeping dry. I visited some shops simply because they constituted shelter, not because I was interested in seeing what they had to offer. Shop hopping in this way did take time, and as I was also on the hunt for non-clothing items, I don’t have as much to report back as I’d hoped to.

A break in the weather aka. photo opportunity

One shop that is always a must, and that I braved the weather to shift shopping zones for is Topshop. I love Topshop, and I regularly have a good look online, so Topshop in the flesh is that much more exciting. The Guildford store is not the largest, though the range is interesting enough. True to form, the store was heaving. There were clothes and hangers in disarray, and the accessoires section was an absolute mess, but not at all surprising for late on a Saturday afternoon. (In general most shops look like WW3 at the end of a busy day, so this is no criticism). The queue for the cashiers was fairly long, though not as long as I’ve seen it in the past. This store is a must for most Saturday shoppers in Guildford.

Have faith in the Fashion Gods and they will deliver. Wooly Arm-Warmers! I have finally found them! I kept my faith, and the Gods have been kind. Topshop! I almost missed them too. They were hidden behind some discarded scarves of the same colour, and my attention was only drawn to them because of an almost hidden display (a manequin hand sporting a hot pink arm-warmer strewn with more scarves). Making the most of this small miracle I purchased two pairs one black, one grey (I’ve mentioned my small obsession with these two colours before haven’t I?)

I had a good look through the clothing as well, and there were many lush things, though it just wasn’t the same. Back in the day Topshop was the go-to for getting the look for less. Now it seems the prices have risen, though the materials and quality have remained the same as before (this was also the general consensus amongst my fashionable friends). For sure there are items very unique to Topshop, and these are where I would spend my money, but I must say that I’d prefer to buy the basics I used to buy at Topshop elsewhere. The prices are more comparable to some smaller brands known for their quality and nicer materials. I’ll admit to being a bit of a fabric snob, I feel happier and more comfortable in natural fibres.

Despite my small quips with the higher prices, Topshop still churns out fantastic clothes that are up-to-date and real competition for the big designers. I really feel I can count on them to produce everything needed to build most looks every season. The level of design is very high. Plus, the guest designers are a testament to the reach of Topshop to the general public. Kate Moss and Sass & Bide being just a few.

*Note: I’m a big fan of Topshop, and it is perhaps my recollection of lower prices that is tainting my opinion now. I ask everyone to form their own opinion. I certainly still shop at Topshop and by no means wish this post to sound overly critical.

Ah, New York. So much shopping, so little time. So little money. Le sigh. The thing about shopping is that is can be fun even if you don’t purchase anything. Especially in New York. On Saturday, after the pleasure and pain filled morning at the baths (tremble shudder moan squeal), we went shopping. Just a little. Hoping for some sort of fab outfit that I could wear to stalk and capture Robert Pattinson. Since the baths took much more time than we planned, we decided to stick close to the hotel that was NOT in Soho and ended up at Century 21. Have you heard of it? When Ashley mentioned it I was like ‘um, isn’t that a real estate company? the one wear they wear yellow jackets?’ Apparently not! She described it as ‘TJ Maxx on crack’. A pretty apt description. They had Manolo Blahnik shoes for like 75% off. Granted, they were the ugliest f*cking shoes I have ever seen but hey, they were a bargain! lol So so so many shoes. Everything from 9 West to the Manolos and in between. And that was just the shoe dept. Oh, and so so so so many (@$&)@ people. This place is not for the claustrophobic.

Browsed shoes. Looking for sky high f*ck me Robert pumps or over the knee boots. Practical stuff, kwim? Just wasn’t in the cards. Onto the clothes! Holy cow, so many clothes. Overwhelming. And a little skeevy. Just too many people, too many hands touching everything. Ick. I went back there on Sunday before I had to go to the train station and looked again. Sadly for me (and happily for the AmEx), NADA for me. But, I have high hopes for the next time I am up there. Which, please God, won’t be another 3-5 years.

On Sunday morning, Ashley left (Beer Fest in the Poconos – so cool – not) and Robin had a brunch date w/a girlfriend. That left me blissfully alone. ALONE. I spent several hours just walking thru Soho and parts of Chinatown ALONE. No one spoke to me. I spoke to no one. No one wanted a piece of me, kwim? Funny, I spend years worried, consumed with fear of being alone for the rest of my life and now I CRAVE alone time. It’s just that rare.

Went to American Apparel (got a cute gray cotton jumper which I wore home on the train. Was almost like a nightgown but shorter and cuter!), Topshop…this place was COOL. Just opened. It’s a UK store, filled with all kinds of merchandise that a boring suburban mom should not even glance at, let alone buy! Love. LOVE. Expensive as hell. And so cool. Bought nothing. Shoegasm. Had to go in there, of course. Madewell. Didn’t go in there b/c Katie Holmes was in there and the paparazzi had it surrounded. More on that later. Hit H&M right before the train. Wanted to see and HAVE a pair of the Jimmy Choo for H&M shoes. The only thing I said as much as ‘but more importantly, where is Robert Pattinson?’ was ‘I must have some CHOOS! I need those CHOOS!’ (please note that Choos sounds like Shoes. I found that quite funny. Robin and Ashley somehow grew tired of that. Bitches)

Look at the Choos! The fabulous Choos!

As you can imagine, this whole cheap Jimmy Choo thing was popular! There were so few left. The first store we went into was sold out. The one near Penn Station had some. Not sure how clearly you can see the images above. I tried on the black stilettos (2nd image in, top row) and the zebra print ones (bottom row, on right). Le sigh. So so so sad. Weird european sizes. I was somewhere in between a 39 and a 40. The sizes made me feel fat somehow! Anyway, couldn’t find a pair that fit. And, truth be told…they were so cheap. And awful. The leather was so stiff. I’m glad they didn’t fit b/c if they had fit, I would have been compelled to buy them. And suffer the consequences…the AmEx, the blisters. Not sure which would have been more painful??

The sum total of my weekend purchases? The American Apparel jumper ($30? maybe) and a pair of tights. The Frug is breathing a sigh of relief. AmEx is pissed.
