The Toreador is one of the 15 Tequila based drinks in the Café Royal Cocktail Book, published in 1937. I have written the recipe as it appears in the book, which happens to be in parts, rather than ounces or ml.

1/2 Tequila

1/4 Apricot Brandy

1/4 Fresh Lime Juice

I am a massive fan of this drink!

As you can see, it’s very similar to the Picador and therefore the Margarita in terms of ingredients. The crucial difference is of course the use of Apricot Brandy in place of Cointreau, which in my opinion add a much richer fruity note without detracting anything from the Tequila or Fresh Lime Juice for that matter.

I sincerely hope to see more bars serving a Toreador near me…and you for that matter…

Disciplinas do Clã: Auspícios, Rapidez, Presença

Fraquezas: Os Toreador são sobrenaturalmente ligados à estética e à beleza mas esta sensibilidade pode ser perigosa. Quando um Toreador vê, ouve ou até mesmo cheira algo realmente maravilhoso — uma pessoa, pintura, música, um pôr do sol particularmente lindo — ele precisa ser bem sucedido num teste de Autocontrole (dificuldade 6) ou se encantará com a sensação. O Toreador será tomado por um êxtase de fascinação durante uma cena ou até que o alvo de sua atenção se retire. Um Toreador arrebatado desta forma não pode nem ao menos se defender se atacado. Organização: Os Toreador têm pouca . organização prática, apesar de uma cadeia social e uma privacidade legendárias. O clã se reúne frequentemente, mais como desculpa para festas depravadas e exibições do que para realizar ou decidir alguma coisa. O status entre os Toreador é um constante vendaval onde um sorriso súbito ou crítica maldosa pode levar à sorte ou à desgraça; um prodígio pode ser adorado em uma noite, cometer um faux pas quase imperceptível e ser banido na noite seguinte.

Linhagens: Os Toreador dão uma grande importância para a linhagem; um vampiro com sorte suficiente de ser descendente de um senhor importante é tratado com adoração (descarada), enquanto uma criança de um senhor que está “por fora” sofre humilhação social. Poucas destas linhas divergem do clã principal de maneira significativa. Os Toreador antitribu do Sabá são uma exceção, pois encontram o mesmo prazer estético em grandes belezas ou em grandes feiúras.

Eleanor of Aquitaine was many things, including queen of France and England. She was also a patron of the arts, and during her reign as Duchess of Aquitaine, the troubadour’s art flourished. She came by her love of music and poetry almost as much by heredity as by inclination. Her grandfather, Guillaume IX of Aquitaine (1071-1127) is the earliest troubadour whose works have been preserved.

Troubadours (Provencal: trobar, “to find” or “to invent”) wrote lyric poems and music. The lyrics were written in the vernacular rather than in Latin, the literary language of the Middle Ages. Native to southern France, the troubadours wrote of chivalric love, setting down the code of behavior to be followed by aristocratic lovers.

Courtly love had rules stemming originally from the Ars Amatoria (The Art of Loving) by the Roman poet Ovid. Lovers pledged themselves to each other and consummated their passion, maintaining complete secrecy. Since most marriages among the nobility were in the form of business contracts, courtly love was a form of sanctioned adultery. Courtly love may have served as a safety valve by providing a model of behavior for a class of unmarried young men who might otherwise have threatened social stability.

Knights were usually younger brothers without land of their own, and thus unable to support a wife. They became members of the household of the feudal lords they served, which is one reason why the lady in the courtly love relationship is typically older, married and of higher social status than the knight. She was modeled on the wife of the feudal lord. The knight serves his courtly lady with the same obedience and loyalty that his owes his liege lord. She is in complete control of the relationship, while he owes her obedience and submission (this certainly didn’t correspond to the actual practice!)

Courtly love was originally construed as an ennobling force, as the knight’s love for his lady inspires him to do great deeds in order for him to be worthy of her. The courtly love relationship was invented to provide young knights with a model for appropriate behavior.

When Eleanor traveled to the court of France as queen to Louis VII, she brought with her a number of poets and musicians whose work was characteristic of her homeland in southern France. Gradually these poet-musicians developed their own genre, becoming trouveres. While troubadours wrote of love, trouveres placed more emphasis on heroic epics.

The tradition traveled across the Channel to England when Eleanor married Henry II. Such epics as de Troyes’s Lancelot, were translated from French into English for the lower classes (Anglo-Saxons who did not speak French). Richard the Lionhearted was a skilled troubadour, carrying on the family tradition begun by his great-grandfather. When Eleanor left England for Poitiers, she brought Richard with her – and her eldest daughter (with Louis VII) Countess Marie of Champagne ruled jointly with her mother over the Aquitainian Courts of Love.

Some of the great works of the age, “Art of Courtly Love” by Capellanus and The Knight of the Cart by Chretien de Troyes (the romance in which the love of Lancelot for Guenevere is first introduced) were dedicated to the vivacious Countess.

All in all, Eleanor’s love of poetry, music and the men who made them was a stimulus to the growing body of secular music. Many Arthurian tales which were first being penned during this period, reflected the heroic and romantic standards that stemmed from the encouragement given to the troubadours and trouveres by the first true Renaissance woman.

La culture ou encore ce que d’autres préfèrent nommer tradition, doit-elle se perpétuer au détriment de l’évolution des moeurs ? C’est le problème que pose depuis de nombreuses années la tauromachie et ses abominables corridas.

Ces mises à mort chorégraphiées font en effet l’objet de nombreuses protestations de la part de plusieurs associations, mais aussi de personnes comme n’importe qui d’entre nous, qui n’ont pas nécessairement un attachement particulier envers une de ces associations. C’est ce que révèle à cette occasion une étude réalisée auprès d’un millier de personnes en France, par l’institut de sondage IPSOS.

Parmi les résultats constatés, il est établi que:
- 44% des personnes interrogées pensent que ces spectacles contribuent à la banalisation de la violence auprès des plus jeunes.
- 52% des femmes soutiennent cette opinion.
- 36% seulement des hommes interrogés partagent aussi cette idée.
- Les plus jeunes interrogés ainsi que les personnes de plus de 60 ans sont majoritairement d’accord avec cette affirmation.

Alors que retenir ? Et bien qu’il existe bien en France une assez grande catégorie de personnes qui se sentent gênées face à ces atrocités, et qu’il ne faut en aucun cas banaliser ces actes à une époque comme la notre, plus avancée et plus éclairée intellectuellement qu’aucune autre.
Dans tous les cas, que l’on soit pour ou contre cette tradition barbare, il ne faut absolument pas oublier qu’il s’agit ni plus ni moins de mises à mort d’êtres vivants qui possèdent pourtant le même droit de vie que n’importe quel être humain.
Une majorité de français est aussi farouchement opposée à la peine de mort. Nous pourrions très largement faire un parallèle avec ce que vivent ces taureaux !

L’objet de ce message n’est pas de vous adresser une quelconque morale. Il est simplement question d’éclairer notre réflexion en gardant à l’esprit qu’il s’agit bien d’êtres vivants, au même titre que les humains. La souffrance physique est toujours la même, que l’on soit un Homme, une Femme, ou un taureau. Tout comme la peur que l’on peut ressentir face à un tueur…

Enfin, sachez que, comme le révèle l’Association One Voice, la tauromachie qui est véritablement une industrie, est financée en partie par les contribuables, autrement dit par nos impôts ! Pas moins de 22 millions d’euros seraient ainsi alloués chaque année par l’Union Européenne aux éleveurs consacrés aux corridas ! Il n’est donc pas seulement question d’un problème éthique, de respect envers des êtres vivants, mais aussi d’un problème qui demande une meilleure utilisation des fonds publics !

Lumiere et Obscurite
Shop, Apartment belonging to Alexi Michel Klein
Heavy drapes of a velvety midnight blue cascade around a small shop lined with many glass paneled shelves. The door is made of wood with a small copper bell and bar attached to it. Like a gallery, the shop displays various completed dolls on the shelves – each one dressed in different color schemes. Small paintings on thin paper and done with watery colors depict the earliest designs of many of the dolls sitting on the shelves. Elegant doll houses already furnished sit along a ledge at waist level with attached price tags. The ground is warm polished wood. There is no counter in the shop. The rest of the space is taken up by a round table decorated with a glass vase of red roses and a china bowl of sugared dragees. Four ornate chairs are placed around the table with comfortable crimson cushions on them.

Workroom of Lumiere et Obscurite
The workroom is larger than the gallery and not as comfortable. Shelves stud the plain stone walls, filled with boxes loaded with clothing materials and bags of clay and plaster. The more expensive resources are kept in the few cupboards behind, under lock and key. A long wooden, stained table serves as the main work table for the owner of the shop, many implements of art and craft placed in wooden holders on it. Bottles of paint strew the rest of the table together with a large canister filled with brushes. Half completed doll bodies, unpainted faces, hands and legs are hung inside an open shelf to dry. At the far end of the workroom is another table with a foot treadle sewing machine beside it. Bolts of cloth rest in the shelf above and a small wooden box with compartments hold buttons, lace and bits of glass and wire for accessories.

Apartment above Lumiere et Obscurite
The one room apartment is filled with furniture of the period’s fashion – a crimson couch with an accompanying table, a wooden screen separating a sleeping area from the small parlor and a cupboard containing the owner’s possessions. A collection of dolls of varying designs and colors sit on top of a wooden cabinet next to a tall vase of red roses, the rich detail of their clothing hint that they are the owner’s treasures and the superb expressions on their faces make them look almost alive. Thick curtains of carmine cover all the windows in the flat and an equally scarlet carpet covers most of the apartment’s floor.

Cafe Estelle, Whereabouts, Unknown
Salon for the Toreador Clan
Rusticated white walls with curved arches and scalloped roof tiles expand down the length and breadth of the outside of the Cafe Estelle, forming an enclosed courtyard of fragrant potted jasmine.  The cafe’s interior is dimly lit with a few gas lamps affixed to the walls, offering a soft, easy glow to relax by.  Wooden tables spread with white linen cloth and accompanying armchairs of russet-brown are placed at comfortable intervals.  Coffee is the prominent drink presented here; delicately-styled, and shining porcelain canisters of imported beans stand in aplomb on glass shelves behind the counter.  The cafe’s menu hangs on a rich burgundy-painted wall, depicting the various beverages and foods available.  Apart from the menu, the walls of the Cafe are adorned with hand-painted and written posters about the beverage and coffee etiquette, each poster bearing paintings of angel-faced young ladies and striking youths intoxicated with the devil’s drink.  The latest periodicals and magazines can be found in antique wooden racks placed near to the counter.  The Cafe opens till late in the night, serving cultured delights for both men and women, as well as providing genteel musical distractions in the form of a nightly violinist or an enchanting pianist at the piano set up on a miniature stage in the middle of the establishment. A wooden staircase meanders in a spiral to a private upper chamber, more opulent and decadent than the Cafe’s main room, the door above maintained by a single attendant seated at a tiny rosewood counter.

Sumptuously dark like its bestowed name, the Ebony Room is papered with a rich spread of ‘nero reale’; an obsidian pattern of embossed flowerets upon a midnight background all across its walls. The windows are tall, reaching to the lofted ceiling and fitted with glass stained the deepest of blues, long drapes of silvery-grey damask shrouding them. The same damask cascade down an arched doorway decorated with fixtures of painted masques allows movement from the Room to the closed off landing which the staircase led up to. Plush cushioned chairs of blood red velvet nestle next to each other, reigning about the Room, guarding tiny tables of dark walnut, the sides of these tables carved with images of fanciful beasts of fables. A bronze chandelier stationed from the mid of the ceiling, layering a very dim, seductive honey sheen over the furnishings; in fact it being the only source of light in the Room. Within perfect glass cabinets set behind a long bar, dulcet browns and mellow golds in their bottles define a height of enjoyment that would be found in such distinguished privacy. Below a mirror embraced by crown gold moulding rests a collection of selective foreign literature upon a cabinet, the leather-bound books kept in place by two onyx book-ends carved in the shape of rearing stallions. Antiques, in forms of exotic vases, or paintings of early renaissance influence, make up the bulk of the elaborations in the Room – associative signs of a cultured and refined camaraderie.

His features are impressive to the point where one may scarce to determine where flesh ends and the gifted hands of a scupltor begins — across the prominency of marble-white skin and ancient bone. Careless imagination would bring forth the thought of a centurion stench associated with this creature, though, only the charming scent of fresh red roses accompanies him.

Perhaps at times, the remembrances of once-humanity is espied through the man’s eyes; where storms clash and sunder across lucid sights of chill stone and silver luminesce.

The face of perhaps a seraphim statue or a marble angel observes in a bountiful of smiles, locks of luxuriant raven black hair framing the almost-perfectly sculpted cheeks, flying like wispy feathers down the elegant curve of his neck, the dark ends tickling the bump of his spine against skin briefly honeyed and yet retaining the delicate paleness and translucency of a youthful pinnacle.

The subtle hints of light stubble makes amusement of his chin and lower jaw though most other times, the man is always clean-shaven and neat. A shade of deep ebony reigns over eyebrows set on thoughtful brows, the former cresting atop expressive eyes, tinted with the lightest of glassy blues, of a sky reflected in a calm lake or at times, the rolling currents of a summer sea. He stands tall and is slender of body, his height a fading importance when one does look upon his face. Straight shoulders, poised with athletic grace taper down to long-fingered hands, deft and capable. His mouth is wide, the expressions depicted on naturally-blushing lips always appearing genuine and ardent.

Character History:
Born to an aristocratic family, Alexi Michel Klein found himself being playing the role of the important only son from the moment that he could stand and walk his very first few steps. He was given an education of a noble and studied at a notable school for the upper-class in Heidelberg.

The boy was born beautiful, with a head of ebony locks and eyes tinted like sky-blue glass, exquisite just like his two sisters, Viktoria and Sonje. Senior Klein, his father, insisted that Alexi be exposed to more ‘manly’ activities in order to raise him to his calling of becoming his father’s successor and rule the family lands.

On his tenth birthday, Alexi was assigned his own fencing teacher and taught the rudiments as well as some intermediate abilities to use a sword, starting with a smaller version of the lightweight rapier, more recently favored more by the common noblemen. He graduated to learning how to wield heftier Teutonic blades once used by his ancestors when he entered his adolescent years.

At thirteen, Alexi was also given weekly equestrian lessons and other exerting forms of activities to train the physical body. He did not complain about the exhausting activities he received, combined with his studies and his well-meaning mother insisting that the boy learns proper etiquette, dancing and also made sure that Viktoria’s harpsichord teacher gave Alexi elementary lessons in music and Sonje’s art teacher taught him how to appreciate the finer aspects of painting.

Since he did like horses and he was very good-natured and respectful of his parents, Alexi seldom vented. His parents were pleased that their boy was so brilliant and thusly reveled in his achievements.

On his sixteenth birthday, he left with his cousin, Karl to ride in the forests beyond Heidelberg. They were caught in the rain while riding up the cliffs bordering a lake when Alexi’s horse slipped and fell into the lake along with him when a bad lightning flash frightened the beast. The former was eventually rescued though his horse drowned. Burdened by near pneumonia brought about by his accident, Alexi spent a good six months cloistered up at home to nurse himself back to health. During this time, he focused more on the finer aspects of painting and music though the accident had left him with a troubling fear of heights.

Alexi married the second daughter of his father’s longtime friend of the esteemed Schaefer family, at the age of eighteen. Although he was as good-natured as ever and wished to ensure that his parents were pleased, the marriage was an unhappy one and Alexi did not have one scrape of love for Odelia Schaefer, the young lady who was his wife. He borne her spoilt nature patiently, allowing her to do what she wanted and she was a spendthrift and believed that she should be given everything she wished for. Alexi’s allowances depleted almost immediately each time when they were given. He was not as extravagant as Odelia but still saw to that he was still fashionably dressed and well-groomed.

The couple had no children for two years and it was soon suspected that Odelia was barren. But she finally became pregnant in the winter of the second year of their marriage. The pregnancy was terrible for Lady Klein and finally, she died delivering a baby boy. Alexi was given permission to leave Heidelberg after Odelia’s death to leave to Montague, him himself citing a wish for a sabbatical and that he finally grew tired of attempting to please his parents. He was twenty-one years of age.

Alexi arrived in Montague in the winter. It was bitterly cold as he remembered but he came with sufficient resources to purchase himself a room to stay in. He did not wish to do anything; merely wanting to be away from his family and his newborn son. While walking in the streets of Montague near the infamous theatre district in evenings, he was sought out by a few companies, asking if he would become an actor. Alexi turned the offers down. However, when he turned one corner past the Palais Royale, he saw a group of people watching an elaborately built stage; a play out in the streets and the actors were not humans but beautifully dressed puppets. A narrator recited the stories in an enchanting voice – the puppets voiced beautifully by their masters, legends and fables, tragedies, comedies superbly performed. He was fascinated, and watched immediately by the troupe’s maestro and owner, the esteemed Toreador puppeteer Maximilian Reis, revered and well-known in the Court of Montague, and with good status amongst his clan peers.

Maximilian courted the young man nightly, creating stories to lure Alexi to him. A ghoul selling little keepsakes of the puppet theatre brought Alexi one night to Maximilian’s quarters in the Palais Royal and he was brought into the mysterious world of stories and puppets; eventually submitting to become a ghoul. At Maximilian’s persuasion, Alexi forgot about Heidelberg and his family and made a decision not to return.

He started out making a name for himself, earning some income and reputation as a musician accompaniment with his regent. Their little troupe, Lumiere, an esoteric mix of ghouls and Maximilian’s other two childer, Arlette and Irene, held evening puppet shows in the streets of Montague Their shows grew famous, gaining the attention of the aristocracy, becoming especially popular with the upper-class ladies and their children. Alexi was able to save and also live comfortably through the money donated by their patrons. They performed for the pleasure of the empresses and emperors, kings and queens.

Maximilian eventually taught the skill of puppet-making and the details of his art to Alexi, these skills used much later for his own ability in creating dolls and doll-houses. In the late autumn, three years later, Maxmillian decided Alexi was ready to enter the Clan of the Rose, and in a small, whimsical ceremony, Embraced him. Alexi was twenty-four.

Early vampiric life was uneventful for Alexi. He loved what he was and although he missed the warmth of the sun, it was seldom thought of as he surrounded himself with a growing array of beloved dolls and puppets. Maximilian found great pride in his youngest protégé indeed. He brought Alexi to experience the grand soirees of the Toreador in Montague and the young neonate basked under his Sire’s accumulated status and fame.

Lumiere’s name was changed after Maximilian decided to leave Montague, to and the new troupe traveled around the region, never staying more than 3-4 years in the same place so that suspicion might not be accrued on Maximilian’s puppeteers. After twenty years, Lumiere was disbanded, the Toreador maestro finally decided it was time to let his childer depart.

“Vampiro – a Máscara” é um jogo de horror pessoal baseado no sistema Storyteller de RPG, foi publicado originalmente em 1991, de Mark Rein Hagen, pela editora White Wolf. Ambientado e inspirado no universo elegante mostrado nas obras de Anne Rice, o estilo é nomeado como punk-gótico, por causa de seu clima sombrio onde você acha lobisomens, fadas, aparições, magos e outros. Seu cenário possui toda uma sociedade vampírica (que vai perdendo sua humanidade ao longo das décadas), ao invés de batalhas e guerras.

Como o próprio termo RPG já diz, é um jogo de papéis, onde se baseia interpretação como se fosse um teatro improvisado. Porém, vemos que no Storyteller a interpretação chega a ser o foco de todo o jogo, diferentemente do AD&D, por exemplo, onde o mais importante são suas missões. Claro que no último sistema citado há muita interpretação do personagem, a diversão do jogo sai daí afinal, mas a diferença entre estes sistemas é justamente as aspirações e objetivos do seu “PC” (Player Character).

No jogo de Vampiro, você cria seu personagem, ou como nós chamamos “PC”, e no momento do jogo você se entrega aos objetivos do papel. A diferença, portanto, entre este sistema e outro mais tradicional é que o personagem desenvolve toda uma vida social, tendo que se submeter e se impor na hora certa, tendo sempre cuidado para não cair nas mãos de antagonistas perigosos. O objetivo no caso, não é único, não são, por exemplo, vários “PC’s” que embarcam numa jornada a procura de algum item mágico, onde o mesmo se torna “protagonista” da crônica. Acontece que, no momento em que você cria o passado daquele “papel”, você interage com ele a todo o momento, lidando com causas existenciais e psicológicas de uma história de vida, e tendo também que equilibrar sua vida atual que está obstruída pela quase insanidade de se tornar um monstro, é nisso que consiste o horror pessoal do jogo.

Dentro do “Vampire – The Masquerade” existem vários romances que detalham esta sociedade no mínimo incomum: “Vampiro – A Idade das Trevas”, “Camarilla”, “Sabá”, ou até mesmo o “Livro de Nod”, onde é contada a história da linhagem vampírica descendente de Caim, que matou seu irmão e foi amaldiçoado por Deus; e é isso que seus filhos se tornam, amaldiçoados, que vivem de sangue e não suportam a luz do sol, sendo forçados a tornarem-se psicopatas.

A sociedade vampírica é dividida em seitas, cada uma com sua hierarquia. Vemos o lado da Camarilla, que esconde da sociedade mortal e de si mesmos, o fato de serem monstros, e por isso que eles têm uma sociedade tão organizada e próxima de um “mundo mortal”; e temos o Sabá, formado por criaturas que aceitaram sua natureza, exercendo seus instintos nada amigáveis. E temos também os Independentes, não pertencentes de nenhuma seita, constroem sozinhos, e com aliados, a sua não-vida.

Dentro de jogo também é possível interpretar corporalmente, como se fosse realmente um teatro, ficando aqui claro que nestes eventos, chamados de live action, a violência não é usada, sendo até proibido o toque. O grupo de jogadores se reúne caracterizados do personagem para interpretar um jogo social, onde, se houver luta, ela se restringe a jogos de mãos para decidir os fatos.

Vemos espalhadas as descendências do jogo também na TV, como exemplos o seriado antigo, sem fama porém fiel, “Kindred: The Embraced”, onde até clãs e seitas são explorados; e o jogo para PC “Vampire the masquerade – Bloodlines”. Tambem se vê características em comum (inspiradas no jogo talvez) no filme “Anjos da Noite – Underworld”, onde muita coisa se torna próxima. Entre outros.

Join! Com um bom narrador, você passará noites e noites lembrando da sua sessão inesquecível, e raciocinando o modo como você, dentro do jogo, eliminará seus oponentes poderosos, ou não. Ou até quem sabe, pensando na roupa que vai usar quando houver uma caracterização!

Any of you who know who the Toreador are will understand. It’s a Vampire: The Masquerade reference.

“Você sabe do que os sonhos são feitos, Lorelei?”
“Do que sonhos são feitos? Ora, sonhos são apenas… Sonhos.”
“Não. Pessoas pensam que sonhos não são reais porque não são feitos de matéria, de partículas. Sonhos são reais. Mas são feitos de perspectivas, de imagens, de memórias e trocadilhos, de esperanças perdidas. Nós podemos transformá-los em ‘matéria’, Lorelei. Porque, de qualquer maneira, eles precisam se traduzir para nós em formas que podemos reconhecer neste mundo.”
“E como isso seria possível?”
“Simples. A partir de um sonho que já esteja aqui, neste mundo.”
Aquela conversa parecia demasiadamente absurda para Lorelei, mesmo em se tratando daquele seu amigo tão especial. Irritava-lhe profundamente que o olhar dele jamais repousasse sobre ela, que ele lhe falasse como se falar com ela jamais fosse digno de sua completa atenção. Naquela noite, tinha pelo menos o pretexto do palco. A banda se apresentava e Lorelei observava com preocupação os vários amigos de seu amigo imóveis como estátuas, observando a banda executar suas canções. Fruiam do espetáculo certamente, mas de uma maneira mais profunda e completamente diferenciada das pessoas que se acotovelavam na multidão no interesse de perderem a si mesmas na massa disforme da coletividade. Seu amigo – e os amigos de seu amigo – em sua imobilidade de estátua, pareciam ter mil anos de idade e a cansada certeza de que o desejo de comunhão e dissolução poderia constituir o sentido da vida de milhões de pessoas, e ser buscado através dos mais infinitos caminhos, mas que certamente – era esse o significado daquele incisivo e profundamente melancólico olhar – estava fadado ao malogro.
Olhava-o, com certa lascívia. Seus cabelos lisos e negríssimos caiam como uma cascata por seu rosto, em finíssimas mechas, depois de erguerem-se ao máximo do centro da cabeça, como uma fonte que jorra delicadíssimos tentáculos de sombra. Seus olhos, pintados de negro assim como suas unhas, combinavam em contraste com a palidez de sua pele lisa e alva, sem nenhum sinal ou mancha, perfeitamente delineada em traços andróginos e angelicais. A seda negra da camisa contornava seu corpo magro e rijo – mas seu olhar estava perdido, desde o princípio.
Lorelei sentia uma ponta de ódio: o que ele ousava esconder atrás daquela franja que cascateava frente à seus olhos? Qual era a substância daquele cansaço infinito expresso no olhar? Olhar que era o olhar de um espectador da vida convicto da impossibilidade de partilhá-la. Mas por quê? Certamente ele não falaria com Lorelei sobre essas coisas. Falar de si era como trair os seus – àqueles com os quais era possível dialogar sem palavras, apenas com olhares.
Os acordes pareciam ecoavar em paredes invisíveis preenchendo o ambiente e Lorelei tentava dissipar sua raiva e seu desejo – uma só e única coisa – pelo idiota que tantas vezes à tomara nos braços (quando bem quis, por assim dizer, embora não fosse privilégio dele) e que recusava-se à partilhar da própria alma sob o (agora visto como) falacioso argumento de que a comunhão existe para ser desejada mas nunca atingida, que é uma realização impossível. Lorelei olhava para outros rostos e corpos, encobertos por roupas pesadas: casacos longos, cachecóis, bonés, tudo para disfarçar o frio (a coletividade que supostamente dissiparia a angústia da solidão humana não era sequer capaz de amenizar o frio da noite). Lorelei admirava alguns rostos e corpos, e confirmava sua teoria de que pessoas bonitas tendem a gostar de coisas bonitas, e vice-versa (coisas bonitas são alvo do interesse de pessoas bonitas). Tinha vontade de abandonar seu amigo com aquele vinho barato naquela mesa e atirar-se na mulditão, tentar fechar os olhos para o fracasso intrínseco à uma alegria que é antes de tudo uma opção – e não alegria verdadeira, portanto. Mas resistia, e disfarçava seu desejo-sem-objeto, seu desejo livre por qualquer objeto, dando preferência à possibilidade de dividir a noite com aquele de quem ainda roubaria a alma.
O amigo acendeu um cigarro, para dividir com ela. Ficava ainda mais belo fumando, e agora a olhava. Mas Lorelei irritava-se profundamente, novamente: sentia como se fosse um pedaço de carne (mesmo enrolada em uma jaqueta e com um cachecol protegendo seu delicadíssimo pescoço do ar frio). Era seu corpo que seu amigo desejava. Tudo bem, não necessariamente. Aquele anjo da morte era refinado (ou excêntrico), e seu desejo repousava sobre aspectos inusitados: um olhar, uma preferência musical, um modo de falar, sua maneira de mover as mãos ou o formato das calças que ela vestia. Sentia que agradava ao bom-gosto de seu amigo, mas que de fato seus sentimentos passavam ao largo do interesse dele. Por um instante se distraiu, e sentiu o coração palpitar por um leve susto que teve ao notar o corpo do amigo finalmente inclinado sobre a pequena mesa e um dedo, um dedo magro e gelado sobre seus lábios. Involuntariamente sorriu, pois sua alma ainda era feita de amor pelo anjo da morte. Um amor simples e que não se depositava sobre ele, um amor que escorregava. Um amor que para poder viver, ela tinha de ceder parte de si, tentar pensar diferente.
Ele acariciou, com os dedos frios, a face morna e rosada de Lorelei. A garota não tivera vivências que lhe exigissem o hábito de refrear, policiar ou refletir constantemente sobre a dimensão de seu sentir. Nem tampouco teria razões para pensar sobre outras possibilidades de reação do que aquela via comum de agir segundo o sentimento, usando a dimensão do sentir (sentimental ou sensual) como justificativa e fundamento do que quer que fizesse. Assim, não resistiu ao delicado calor que nascia em seu coração, quando os dedos frios roçavam a pele morna de sua face, junto com o impulso de agradá-lo. Assim também, mesmo achando ridícula e surreal a conversa sobre sonhos, decidiu revivê-la para bem de dividir a periferia de sua alma com seu amigo.
“Eu ainda não entendi. Como um sonho poderia estar aqui?”
“Como é que eu estou aqui, Lorelei?”
“Como assim? Você está aqui, eu estou aqui…”, roçou seu rosto, como um felino, na mão carinhosa de seu amigo. “Sua mão está em meu rosto. Isso é real.”
“Não necessariamente, meu amor.” Ele a chamava de meu amor, e isso a irritaria se seus dedos gelados não tivessem feito nascer no coração de Lorelei uma abertura para a ternura do momento. “Eu estou aqui, mas você ainda não chegou.”
“Como? Onde eu não cheguei?”.
“Aqui.”
“Eu estou aqui.”
“Não está. Quando você vier à mim, virá para me destruir…”.
O rapaz beijou os dedos de Lorelei e sorriu. Lorelei ouviu uma explosão e viu o palco e o equipamento sonoro arder em chamas enquanto a multidão, centenas de pessoas, batia em retirada. Nenhum dos amigos de seu amigo estava mais ali, e a garota ficou assustada com o incêndio.
O rapaz recostou-se à cadeira novamente e pegou seu copo de vinho. Lorelei se levantou, assustada com o incêndio e a possibilidade deste se alastrar. O rapaz, recostado à cadeira, sorria. Isso a assustava ainda mais. De costas, dirigiu-se até seu carro. Pode ouví-lo ainda dizer “Não fuja, estamos envoltos pelo fogo sagrado!”. Entrou no carro e assustada, dirigiu apressada até sua casa. Teve uma noite insone, e não se lembrava como o rapaz poderia ter ido parar sob seus lençois brancos. A janela aberta e a cortina branca balançando sob a luz azulada da lua não poderia ser uma explicação, pois eram muitos metros até o chão, era impossível entrar pela janela. Enfim, depois de constatar que a porta de seu quarto estava chaveada e que a chave não estava na porta, deitou-se novamente. Talvez Lorelei passasse a noite inteira olhando para o teto, assustada, mas seu amigo a envolveu, abraçando-a por trás e fazendo seu sono ser mais doce do que o de uma criança. Aquele abraço era suficiente para fazê-la esquecer da própria solidão.
