Today is all about the rain. Rain in Southern California throws everyone off. Everyone forgets how to drive, that they should be careful and above all dress appropriately. You don’t have to be miserable in the rain, just prepared!

I am still amazed at all the people that won’t let go of the flip-flops even in a storm. It’s amazing! I can’t imagine how freezing they must be! So I did some research and found some amazing rain boots. I am a huge fan of boots to begin with and I think it is only appropriate to have rain boots on hand, for the  2 or 3 days of rain we get in LA.

These boots by Hunter adds color to any outfit and with a standard black coat, these would be perfect. These are a basic rain boot for any beginner.

If you want to opt for a heel, these boots by DKNY would be perfect. These have a 4″ heel and are not the standard shiny rubber like the basic Hunter boots above. While still being water-resistant, these boots step it up, literally!

These are by far my favorite. The contrast in fabrics make these boots way more interesting and I just love the colors. The accent zipper on the back couldn’t be any cooler. So, since Christmas is just around the corner, I want to add these to my list!

So while we’re here in NY freezing, A-Listers such as Lyor Cohen, Tory Burch, Beyonce, and more flew out to the Dominican Republic to celebrate Jay-Z’s 4oth birthday with some nice dark tans. Kanye’s (tan) appeared to be especially dark  for the simple fact that we didn’t even realize he was in the photo.

I was never really a fan of flats, that is until I got my first big girl job in college. I was always more of a boots, pumps, or flip-flops kind of girl. Boots when it was cold, high heels when I went out, flip-flops every other hour of the day, those were the options! Flats just seemed a little too reminiscent of being 5. Which I suppose now is half of their appeal.

In all honesty flats effortlessly combine fashion with function and the result is nothing short of a miracle made in arch saving heaven. From the minute I bought my first pair of Michael Kors ballet flats with the little black bow at the toe, I literally danced my way through the day. 

Sort of like a little vacation for your feet. Your toes are warm and cozy without being smashed in the pointy toe of a pump. You arch is flat against the ground (as it should be), with a little more sole support than a pair of Rainbows was ever able to offer.

All in all the flat should be a well-known inhabitant of your closet. You can dress up a tee-shirt and jeans, or maintain the girly ensemble of a skirt and tights, either way you wear them your feet will thank you!

It is more than a little frenzied here in the Corner Condo at Princess InterGalactic HQ, so we jump right in today, there is big news about Le Boutique Targèt.  Our favorite reasonably-priced store (discount store just sounds so…so dreary, don’t you think?) has announced two new designer collaborations: the next limited-edition designer for a GO International® capsule collection will be Zac Posen, and a longer-term, larger partnership with Liberty of London.

The Zac Posen for Target collection will be available in stores and online April 25th of next year through May 30th.  Mr. Posen’s line for Target is in addition to his new lower-priced line, Z Spoke, this collection will be sold exclusively at Saks. Below, a few looks from that group, part of this Women’s Wear Daily story:

The story by Jessica Iredale continues:

“Z Spoke comes at a time when the market has shifted and many of Posen’s fellow young designers — Doo-Ri Chung, Thakoon Panichgul and Richard Chai among them — have recently launched lower-priced collections. … Posen’s new line will sit on Saks’ fourth floor… alongside Tory Burch, Elie Tahari, M Missoni and Ralph Lauren Blue Label.”

Price points for the Z Spoke pieces will start at $78 for a cotton tee. BTW, all Z Spoke photos are by Kyle Ericksen at WWD.

Prices for Mr. Posen’s Target collection haven’t yet been announced, but prices for other GO International lines have been roughly between $14.99 – $149.99.  While not crazy about most of the Zac Posen Z Spoke pieces seen above, we are excited about his Target line.

And then there is the even bigger news about the Boutique and Liberty of London partnering up, bigger in part because it will include not only Women’s, Men’s, & Children’s apparel and a Home Collection, but also because of the Liberty heritage.

The luxury retailer is best known for colorful prints but also creates many other products, including their own lines of leather goods, home goods like towels and bath items, and more.

Today’s WWD story has more on the partnership.

“Target did not discuss specifics of the home collection. However, products could be similar to the pillows, cosmetics bags, lamp shades and notebooks in iconic prints found on the Liberty site. Timed to coincide with the spring season, Liberty of London for Target also will feature storage and organization and garden products.”

The company’s CEO understands that not everyone is familiar with Target, especially on the far side of the pond; here is more from the story:

“Despite the exposure, collaborating with Target wasn’t an easy decision for Liberty to make. “People outside the U.S. don’t really know how big Target is and what it means,” de la Bourdonnaye said. …and I had to explain to our shareholders just how important this collaboration could be.”

Perhaps they will create some cute melamine pieces like these currently on the retailer’s website.

But we’ll also settle for a scarf or two in the collection!

The goal of this blog is to dispel that twisted feeling of dread in your stomach that you get when you realize that you have a business holiday party to attend after work and then yet another holiday party with your friends after that.  Now why would someone experience dread at the thought of having fun with colleagues and friends over the holidays?  Well, if you live in L.A. there’s no godly way that you’re going to be able to drive home from work to change for a party, drive to your work-related party and then do the same thing over again for the party with your friends.  Actually, this is virtually impossible in any city!

So, I’m here to help dispel that feeling of dread.  In three easy steps I can help you change your outfit from work, to business holiday party, to personal holiday party.

1.  The Work Look:  Wear a shift.  Look for something simple and classic and if you want to make it super easy, black.  Think little black dress with an appropriate hemline for work – This isn’t the time to show off your gams starting at mid-thigh if you know what I mean.  Throw on a chic jacket, sweater or whatever will cover your shoulders that is appropriate for your work environment.  Personally I’m a big fan of the statement fitted jacket in a color that contrasts nicely with the little black dress.  Wear day appropriate makeup – aka put together but not screaming “look at me”.  Depending on your work environment, throw on some layered chains or a subtle pearl necklace.   Complete your look with a statement bag and nicely-turned out heels.

2.  The Work Holiday Party:  Retouch your makeup.  You can get away with a more pronounced look but don’t go for the “I’m hitting the club after this party” look.  Change your jewelry to a statement piece.  Think long Coco Chanel pearls looped around three times.  Personally I’m a huge favorite of these stunners by Claudia Endler Designs - gorgeous modern and contemporary interpretation of the classic.

Take off the work jacket and go for a hot, fitted leather jacket that ends at your waist.  Not your look?  Wear a wrap to keep the cold away, you’ll be taking it off at the party anyhow.  Shoes, here’s another shot to go sexy.  Go strappy or go stacked heels – just go with statement.

Several years ago when I first started to noticing the designer Tory Burch I was immediately struck by her personal evening look.  Tory was often photographed wearing a simple, well cut evening  gown with  identical cuff  bracelets on each wrist.  This look  follows in the footsteps of a few of the most elegant  women of our time -

 Coco Chanel,  Diana Vreeland and  Jackie O.

In the 30’s,  Coco Chanel started wearing  and collecting cuffs created by Verdura .
