A l’appel de syndicats et d’associations (CGT, Droit au Logement, Mouvement national des chômeurs et précaires), salariés et sans-emploi se sont rassemblés hier devant le Pôle Emploi Bachelier pour préparer les États généraux du chômage et de la précarité. Ils sont également intervenus devant une agence Adecco. La morosité du contexte économique et l’inflation des loyers ont contribué à augmenter la masse des personnes en difficulté, sans que, selon les manifestants, le gouvernement ne s’en émeuve. « La prime de Noël est passée de 220€ à 152,45€ pour une personne seule alors même que l’année a été particulièrement difficile « explique-t-on au Comité Privés d’Emploi CGT. Difficile pour les précaires d’entendre l’argument budgétaire pour justifier le refus d’une augmentation de prime, alors même que des milliards ont été débloqués il y a quelques mois pour les banques. « Pour les puissants, il y a toujours de l’argent dans les fonds de tiroirs, ça n’est jamais le cas pour les plus faibles » poursuit un syndicaliste CGT. Pour remédier à la paupérisation des travailleurs précaires et des sans-emploi, les syndicats en appellent à des mesures radicales : une prime pour l’emploi revalorisée, une véritable sécurité sociale des chômeurs, la gratuité des transports ouverte à de nouvelles catégories de personnes (comme les handicapés notamment) et des avancées en matière de logement. Sur ce dernier point, les syndicats rappellent que si la trêve hivernale empêche l’expulsion des familles, aucun texte n’est prévu pour empêcher de couper l’eau et l’électricité. « Si on ne veut pas se retrouver avec des situations dramatiques cet hiver, il faut envisager des solutions urgentes » alerte le syndicaliste CGT. Dans toute la France (Paris, Rennes, Alençon, Marseille, Lyon) des actions de ce type émergent. Tous se sont d’ores et déjà donné rendez-vous le 5 décembre pour un mouvement national contre le chômage et la précarité.

Monday 16th

Our last day in Paris, we decided to go film some classic tourist sites so visited the George Pompidou centre where we filmed some pigeons attack a man and then notre dame where I witnessed modern-day confessions taking place not in the classic style booths but in an office surrounded by glass. The confessor would sit opposite padre and it looked like they were discussing sins much like you would discuss a bank loan or a mortgage. Very odd. I tried to film through the glass with a zoom lens but somehow was unable to see what I wanted to see. That is God’s work. Or maybe the frosted glass. I’m going for God.

Notre Dame is very beautiful though. I have investigated many a church and cathedral in Europe and this is amongst the finest. It always baffles me that these huge structures were hand built without the use of machinery. You can feel it when you touch the stone walls and huge columns that hold the roof up. After Notre Dame we agreed to meet a Swedish friend of ours called Anna who lives in the city for a drink. We walked up from Notre Dame and found a little street with lots of bars down it. There was a great table with stools outside underneath a heater and my instincts were to sit there. The location was awesome, the bar was a crap Irish pub called O’Sullivans with a know it all barman who told me the cheapest beer prices in the world were in London and I was lucky. I could not be arsed to engage in this conversation, I could see I would be here for a long time and it would be fruitless. It was happy hour however so we got 2 pints of shitty Kronenberg for around €7 which was good value.

Anna came bounding up the alley, we had another beer and we headed to La Perle where we met Alice and Maud for another drink. The place reminded me of The Endurance, down Berwick Street sans stuffed bear in the corner. However from the inside out, I kind of felt like I was in the Hopper painting of the café at night. So much so that I walked outside to try and capture the same image but it really didn’t look the same. Is it really possible to imagine yourself IN a painting from the opposite perspective? Obviously it is. I wonder if there is a word for this. After more extortionate drinks we head off to a pizza place called La Flamingo, which reportedly does the best Pizza in Paris. I had the Basquiat which was goat’s cheese, ham and figs, which was a delightful touch. The place was really cool and in the toilet they had a music box that just played old dancehall rhythms. You could switch between the rhythms. The device was much like something that you would find on an old organ or kids synthesiser with samba, 16beat and waltz etc. COOL! Also the telephone that people called to order pizza was an old style one with a second receiver, probably designed for jealous partners to listen into conversations. I listened into a pizza order in French from an old lady. It was great. Honestly.

After dinner we took a step back in time and headed to Le Progress and sat outside with a huge goblet of Leffe. I felt like a bloated cow and I started to struggle to keep my eyes open. It wasn’t that the company was bad, it is just that I am super tired and feel like I need days to recover. I’m sure everyone realises that travelling does wear you out. But travelling and filming/photographing and writing is a mission. Yeah I can hear those tiny violins playing just for me and I am not complaining for a second, as the experience is awesome. Just not sure when I am supposed to put down the camera and stop the party to have some sleep. Another side effect of constant filming is that even without the camera, I sometimes think I am watching everything through a wide-angle lens. It’s bizarre.

We get the last tube home and anna stays with us at the hostel. Georgie has a spare bed in her room and I am guessing Anna does not want to go home alone so it makes sense. It feels like we are one big family. Ahhhhhh

Tuesday 17th – 20th November

We wake early, pack and get breakfast while shooting some final shots of the hostel. We are ready by 10 and both instinctively get a last instance of sleep before hitting the road. We checkout and I ask Georgie to print out our car hire confirmation and a google map to Toulouse. We are determined to do everything as cheaply as possible! The map is unfortunately in French but we assume that Toulouse is South so as long as we do this we are going the right way.

We got our car from Hertz, which was a painful experience. The guy behind the counter spent more time on the phone and talking to the guys at Europcar than helping us with our questions. They didn’t have a map and we had to take his word for it that the car was in good condition. Plus I was not aware that the excess on an accidental damage was £750. I should of read the small sprint on the website. Apparently if I spent a further €17 a day I could get better insurance. Another €17 would get me a GPS and if I spent another €40 a day I could get a better car. These guys want to bleed me dry! and once I have run out of blood?????

I told the guy I already had a Mercedes at home and that it was next to my Ferrari in the garage. This Vauxhall Corsa will make a welcome change. I pick up the keys and get a map from Avis. I got a huge amount of sass from another guy advising me of how to press a button in a lift. Thanks for your help shit face.

We got the car and checked that the damage report was the same as the one we had been given. It kind of was, but then again the car is parked in a dark garage SO we just assume its going to be ok and get the fuck out of dodge. It’s pissing down with rain as we head down Rue La Chapelle. Unfortunately we are no on Rue La Chappelle but another road heading due north out of the city. The depth of our disorganisation knows no bounds, but with the power of La Force we find the ring road and finally make our way south. It’s about 2pm when we hit the motorway, 2 hours behind target with almost 700km to drive. Man this is not a good idea.

The trip is hard as I am tired but luckily Alberto is as staunch behind the wheel as he is as a friend and filmmaking amigo and this allowed me to get some sleep on the back seat for an hour or so. I started driving again with about 365km to go and darkness settling on the wet roads around us. I managed to pull in a healthy average of 120km and kicked the last few hundred kilometers square in the balls and then some. BAM MOTHERPACKER. We got into Toulouse at 20:00 and texted July. The battery died on Alberto’s phone. FUUUUCCCCKKKKKK. Our only means of communication is dead. We knew we had to meet her at Gare Matabiau but needed to text her when we got there as she lives a short walk away. I turned the phone and quickly wrote the word HERE and sent it but the battery died just before the message was sent. SHHHHHHIIITTTT. How annoying. I kept doing this until I finally got a confirmation. I hope she gets it. We wait and wait until finally I see the small figure of July running up to me and say hello. Phew.

She jumps in the car and directs us to her apartment, the place where we will rest our heads the next few nights. The place is a cool oe bed apartment. I assumed me and Alberto will be roughing it on the floor but she insisted we took her bed. I don’t believe in lengthy discussions of politeness and accepted her offer after only minor refusal. She had made us food and bought some wine and beer. In fact she took very good care of us as she even did our washing for us which was so much more than we possibly expected or are used to. Anyway, we went out that night to a cool pub called La Maison, which looked like an old cottage full of art with plenty of exposed beams and dirty brick work. From the sounds of things it was Jamiroquai night as this is what they played all night long. Instead of Affligem being the standard Belgian beer of choice in Toulouse it s Grimbergen which, although nice, is not as tasty as Affligem or Leffe. Still we both had 2 goblets of Grim before heading off to July’s second pub of choice…. The Frog and Rosbif. This pub is part of a chain, and he name is signifies a defiant truce between te frogs and Rosbifs, what they call us English because of our love of Roast Beef with all the trimmings. I think Frogs is a better cuss out the two but it interests me that both insults are food related and it interests me even more than anyone could take offence really.
In any case the pub is very much an English pub expect they only sell their own beers which are made in a micro brewery o site. This way you can purchase a jug (2.3L) of beer for €20 which is as good as Kronenberg or Stella if that’s what floats your boat. Driven by cost we obviously went with this. After a couple of pints and listening to Oasis etc the whole thing is kind of depressing as this is the opposite to what I want. I think the French quite like it though. We decided to call it a night and went home via Kebab café which has an interesting take on kebabs. Instead of pita or a wrap its and Indian naan bread filled with cheese all for €4.50. an extra €0.50 gets you a load of frites inside it to. MAN THIS IS AWESOME. I will introduce this idea, to London somehow as London needs this as a new addition to the plethora of late nigh fast food. I am SERIOUS! While we are on the topic, London needs a 24 hour crepe place. Crepes are awesome snacks.

Ok so me and Albertp get to share a bed for the first time in the trip. I was OK and Alberto is not so bad to sleep with although when he sneezed in my face and said “that’s what she said” in his sleep I wasn’t amused but hey, you gotta roll with the rough and the smooth. We kinda felt sorry for July as when she opened the door in the morning I am pretty sure she was met by a wall of gas.

Next day we had to move the car and found some free parking in an old part of town. We picked up a coffee and Panini type thing with bacon and onions on it for a total of €3.40. Bargain of the trip. We found the apartment pretty quick and realised Toulouse is quite a straightforward town to get around. We found the apartment and went back to bed and slept until about 1pm when July walked in and wished us good morning. Both me and Alberto have a communal tiredness that is not going away. I think when I get back to London I am going to stay in bed for as long as possible. Hopefully with a warm naked body next to me that is NOT Alberto’s.

The sky was blue outside and we felt dumb not utilising the great weather and good light as much as possible. One of the greatest things about Toulouse is its location in the South. The weather is great and we are walking around in t-shirts and sunglasses. Also it is located a 1 and a half hours drive from the tax haven of Andorra, Spain and a 3 hour drive to BARCELONA! It’s also a 1-hour drive from the coast. We did not manage to get to Barcelona in fear of excessive tolls and fuel costs and decided that Spain is definitely on the cards for future trips.

That night we went to a pizza place called La Porchetta which reportedly did the best pizza in Toulouse. The bar had been set pretty high La flamingo so I was expecting to be impressed. The first thing I noticed walking to my table was the astronomical size of the se pizzas. They are like PLANETS. BOOOOOOOM. I’m in love. I was told that the medium pizza is pretty big but I hear this all the time and went with a Grand Napolitana with additional Capers> man I love those anchovies, if God is real and truly created the everything then the anchovy is one of his best creations. A fish with bones you can chew that tastes like pure salt. HHAHAHAHA, reading this line makes me laugh but its true. The pizza was immense and halfway through I was not sure if I would finish. I stated this and was a little ashamed that everyone else was not even a quarter of the way through. I’m not sure where my requirement to eat as fast possible comes form but it’s almost impossible to not do it.

We have a relatively early night and I quickly realise that Toulouse is no Paris, but that’s obvious really. Next day we awoke late again and for some reason my moustache smells like goats cheese. We drive to a place called Fronton, which is a wine producing village a 30 minute drive away. Obviously being November the wine making was not happening but we blagged some free wine tasting from a sterile wine shop lady and I bought a bottle of Rose for July as a thank you while half cut. Our last evening we met July and some of her friends for drinks at the apartment and then headed out. We ended up at the frog again and then jumped into her friend’s car for some drinks in their apartment, which they affectionately told us was in the ghetto. They had a massive bottle of whiskey with a price tag of €6 on it, from Andorra obviously. Brilliant. We should have gone, maybe next time. It gets late and we are watching a DVD with some crazy dude they all love called “M” who looks fucking ridiculous. Then we take all our clothes off and have an orgy! That would be interesting right. Well actually what happened is we got a lift home and I bought another kebab with frites in it just before I hit the hay. We got an early start back to Paris as we wanna get there while it is still light.

Celle qui m’a élevée. Tellement aimée aussi, malgré mon sale caractère. Aujourd’hui encore, je comprends pas pourquoi je t’ai si longtemps rejetée et même détestée. Combien de temps perdu.. Si tu savais comme je m’en veux. J’essaye de me rattraper maintenant, de compenser ce désamour d’enfance insensé. Mais, tu sais j’me rends bien compte que ça ne remplacera jamais, pas plus que ca n’effacera tes souffrances passées. Pardon.

Celle que j’admire tant. Parce qu’à mes yeux, tu es la perfection. Fière de toi, comme pas deux! Tout, tu sais tout faire.Etre belle en réparant une voiture, cuisiner en très peu de temps des choses merveilleuses, rendre jolie une pièce avec trois fois rien.. Et même, aussi incroyable que ça puisse paraître, combler le manque de Papa. J’aimerais un jour parvenir à avoir un dixième de ta patience, de ta douceur mais aussi de ton caractère si fort. Toujours déterminée, forte et honnête.

Celle qui m’a appris la persévérance, le travail, l’amour aussi. L’une des seules qui m’ai vraiment vue pleurer, combien de fois j’ai pu venir chercher du réconfort dans tes bras et ton regard. Je t’aime petite Maman.

Nouveaux cas de répression à Toulouse :
riposte et solidarité !

Aujourd’hui 14 novembre à 14h, SOS tout petit, groupuscule réactionnaire anti-avortement, était venue manifester devant la cathédrale Sainte-Étienne à Toulouse.
Une contre manifestation c’est rassemblé au même moment pour revendiquer et lutter pour le droit à l’avortement aujourd’hui gravement remis en cause en France, tant sur le plan matériel, que sur le plan moral.

Ce n’est pas la première fois que des contres manifestations se mettent en place pour lutter contre ces quelques réactionnaires, seulement aujourd’hui, la BAC et les forces de police en ont profité pour alpagués et intimider purement et simplement des militant-e-s syndicalistes de lutte.

A l’heure actuelle, un de nos camarades a été arrêté par les forces de police, une autre se retrouve à l’hôpital avec le crâne ouvert.

La contre manifestation s’était pourtant déroulé dans le calme, ce n’est que plus tard que les milices au service des réacs de tout poils et de la bourgeoisie ont chopés notre camarade, et en ont blessés plusieurs autres.

Ceci ne relève aucunement de l’accident : les flics ont clairement eu l’intention d’arrêter des militant-e-s syndicalistes de lutte. Se sont eux qui ont commencés à chargés, ce sont les mêmes qui ont arrêtés notre camarade après l’avoir repéré et montré du doigt auparavant.

Nous ne pouvons céder à l’intimidation et à la répression
exercée envers nos camarades!

Les forces de police et derrière elle toute la bourgeoisie nous lance une véritable déclaration de guerre !

Dès maintenant, nous appelons à un rassemblement devant le commissariat central de Toulouse pour demander la libération sans condition de notre camarade.

Une attaque contre l’un d’entre nous est une attaque contre tous !

A Toulouse, les membres de la première génération d’immigrés espagnols se retrouvent chaque après-midi dans un bar d’associations. Leurs parcours expliquent une identité restée vive et racontent un peu de l’histoire de la ville au XXe siècle, lieu d’accueil pour les républicains menacés par les franquistes et région en manque de main d’œuvre dans des secteurs comme le bâtiment.

La Casa de Espana abrite neuf associations hispaniques de la ville Rose.

Une drôle de procession se met en place dans les locaux de la Casa de España, instance de regroupement des associations espagnoles de la ville de Toulouse. Il est 14 heures 30. Par grappe de deux ou trois, des hommes âgés, cheveux grisonnants et costumes ajustés, pénètrent dans le café de l’organisation, situé au fond d’un patio isolé du tumulte du boulevard des minimes au nord de la ville Rose. La pièce est plongée dans une lumière faible. Des tables, où s’allongent cartes et dominos, les voix rocailleuses grondent. Un brin désuète, la salle accueille chaque après-midi depuis 1996 des retraités de nationalité espagnole établis à Toulouse. « Ces personnes appartiennent à la première génération d’immigrés », indique Angela Rodriguez, secrétaire de la Casa de España. Ce jour-là, ils sont une trentaine à avoir poussé les portes du troquet associatif.

Réfugiés politiques

« Les débats tournent souvent autour de la politique, rapporte Jacques, 65 ans. Du sport, de l’actualité… Mais surtout du pays. » Fils de républicains, ce retraité de l’enseignement a grandi dans la nostalgie de l’Espagne. « Je suis Espagnol », insiste-t-il.

L’affirmation de son identité apparaît en effet comme une donnée structurante de la communauté espagnole de Toulouse estimée à 9 000 personnes par le Consulat. Beaucoup ont conservé leur nationalité ou cherchent l’obtenir quand ils sont nés en France à l’image de Jacques. Ils sont nombreux, aussi, à être membres de l’une des neuf associations abritées par la Casa de España qui compte 1000 adhérents. Les circonstances de la migration de cette population expliquent – en partie – ce phénomène.

« Nous sommes un certain nombre à nous retrouver dans l’hexagone à cause de Franco, reprend Jacques. C’est ce qui a poussé mes parents à partir et à venir s’établir de ce côté des Pyrénées en 1939. » A cette date, la guerre civile espagnole s’achève. Le sud de la France constitue alors une base de repli pour les opposants – républicains notamment- au régime franquiste. C’est la Retirada. Pour les Espagnols de Toulouse, le souvenir de cet exode forcé reste vif. Un mémorial des Fils de la Retirada a été érigé dans le jardin Claude-Nougaro, à proximité de la Casa de España. « J’ai récemment prononcé un discours devant des familles de guérilleros où je voyais l’émotion montée dans le public. Des dames assises au premier rang étaient extrêmement émues  », se souvient Jacques.

C’est aussi pour fuir les franquistes que Carlos, ancien électricien de 75 ans, s’est installé à Toulouse l’hiver 1939 avec sa famille. « J’ai suivi mon père qui risquait sa vie en Andalousie car il était républicain. J’avais quatre ans, raconte Carlos. Puis à sept ans, je suis rentré en Espagne pour finalement revenir en France dix ans plus tard car la situation ne permettait pas à mon père de revenir.  Depuis ma vie est à Toulouse. »

Car, en dépit de leur attachement à l’Espagne, les retraités du café de la Casa de España excluent un retour définitif dans leur pays d’origine. « Notre avenir à nous tous est en France, résume Angel, 73 ans, fils d’opposants à Franco. Nous y avons construit notre vie et une famille avec des enfants et des petits-enfants que nous voulons voir grandir. »

Migrants économiques

Attablé à une table voisine, Julian, 77 ans, blague avec ses camarades de jeu. Lui, a traversé la frontière en 1963. Il fait partie de la seconde vague d’immigration massive qui s’est produite dans les années 1960. Ces Espagnols ont fourni à la France une main d’œuvre de substitution dans des secteurs peu qualifiés comme la construction. En Catalogne, Julian était chimiste dans un groupe pétrolier ; à Toulouse, il sera peintre dans le bâtiment. « Je suis un migrant économique », s’amuse cet homme rieur aux lunettes carrés et montures épaisses. « L’intérêt de venir ? C’est qu’on gagnait davantage tout simplement, dit-il. On m’a envoyé dans le bâtiment car c’est là que la France manquait d’ouvriers. »

Roger, 85 ans, est arrivé en France en 1957. « J’ai été berger », précise-t-il sur son passé. Accoudé au comptoir, il agite son café puis porte la tasse à sa bouche. Ses mains gardent les stigmates de trente années de travail dans les travaux publics. Comme d’autres expatriés espagnols, il était un travailleur d’appoint. Une situation qui a impliqué une forte instabilité et beaucoup de déplacements. Roger a successivement connu les villes de Tarbes, Marseille, Paris puis Toulouse. « J’ai vu du pays », lâche-t-il.

Roger vient tous les jours au café. Généralement, en début d’après-midi. Il prend un petit noir, badine et prend des nouvelles du pays. C’est devenu un rituel. Le samedi, en revanche, l’octogénaire est accompagné de son épouse pour le bal hebdomadaire organisé par les associations de la structure. Le bar de la Casa de España peut ainsi constituer un moyen de briser la monotonie dans laquelle la vie peut s’engluer, mais également de renouer avec son passé et celui de son pays. Roger en témoigne : « Nous avons de la chance de pouvoir nous réunir ici. Il est important de savoir qui nous sommes et d’où nous venons. »

Pourtant, l’évocation quotidienne de cette mémoire pourrait s’interrompre dans les années à venir. Pour les membres de la première génération de la communauté ibérique de Toulouse, le café de la Casa de España forme le cœur de la vie sociale. Or aujourd’hui l’indifférence des moins âgés rend incertaine la continuité de ce lieu. Le regard las, Rio, 74 ans, observe la pièce. « Il y a de moins en moins de monde. Les personnes âgées se déplacent moins car elles ont des difficultés ou disparaissent tout simplement. Et les jeunes quant à eux  ne viennent pas. Nous ne les avons pas assez sensibilisés peut-être. Je redoute que le bar s’éteigne petit à petit et avec lui un peu de notre histoire. »

Nous ne sommes pas dupes !

Le Gouvernement avec l’aide de la plupart des médias nous fait croire que la crise serait partout, qu’elle serait responsable de tous nos maux et que nous devrions encore faire de nouveaux sacrifices. Pourtant il n’a jamais été produit autant de richesses en France et dans le monde
La vérité est que la richesse produite sert de plus en plus à “rémunérer” les actionnaires, les dirigeants des grands Groupes et prédateurs en tout genre et de moins en moins à satisfaire les besoins sociaux de tous.
Pour augmenter les profits, on rentabilise à outrance, on licencie à tour de bras, on précarise, le chômage flambe, les conditions de vie de celles et ceux qui ont un emploi se dégradent de jour en jour.
Et dans le même temps, des pans entiers de notre bien commun, les services publics (France Télécom, EDF, GDF, la Poste, l’ Université, le Rail,…) , sont sacrifiés sur l’autel du libéralisme pour être vendus à des sociétés privées tandis que les droits sociaux de tous (protection sociale : sécu, chômage…) ne cessent, eux aussi, d’être démantelés.
Pôle emploi est bel et bien au centre de toutes ces attaques dans le cadre de la politique anti-sociale menée par le gouvernement et le patronat.

À Toulouse comme ailleurs depuis des mois des précaires se mobilisent
pour exprimer leur colère et défendre leurs droits.
De nombreuses agences ont déjà été investi à Rennes, Paris, Alençon, Marseille, Lyon…

Le 5 décembre, des marches et de nombreuses initiatives contre le chômage et la précarité
vont être organisées sur tout le territoire dans le cadre d’ États Généraux.

D’ici-là, partout actions et occupations vont se développer !

CJ van der Linde on the burst

CJ van der Linde will be on the bench tonight as South Africa take on France in Toulouse (a town that holds great memories!). It is an unlikely return for CJ having spent the majority of the last year out with injury. The decimation of the South African pack against an understrength Leicester side has called for the introduction of many ‘overseas’ players to the Springboks side.

Van der Linde was surprised by the call up. “I didn’t think the overseas guys were going to get picked but it’s a great honour for me to get picked again. I will definitely make use of this opportunity. Leinster were very nice about it; they said ‘no problems’. But it is just for this tour.”

“I have not talked about my long-term involvement (with the Springboks)” he said. “I still have two years left on my Leinster contract but there is that clause that says I can leave at the end of May 2010. We will have to see and make a decision on that in the future.

“But I would obviously like to play in South Africa again.”

CJ is obviously keen to play for the Springboks but does he owe a debt of gratitude to Leinster? His contract allows him to walk away in May but is this fair to the province and the fans?

“First I would have to talk to Leinster and see how they feel about the whole situation, then make a decision on that,” said Van der Linde.

“I haven’t sat down with the Leinster officials yet so nothing is set in stone. First I have to talk with them and see what the future holds.”

“Leinster is a very professional club and I have learned a lot about how the northern hemisphere does certain things, how they play their rugby over here. There are a few things I have taken into my own personal armour.

I would like to see the best of CJ in a Leinster jersey and i feel he can offer the team a lot over the next few years. Let’s hope the lure of international rugby doesn’t take away another of our big imports.

Hier à Toulouse, un jeune homme revêtu d’une chemise blanche ornée du logo de la Croix Rouge m’aborde rue d’Alsace-Lorraine pour me soutirer quelques dons. En effet, cette association refuse les aides d’états pour être libre de son engagement et de ses actions, et il me remémore que la Croix Rouge agit également en France, contre l’illettrisme par exemple – un domaine où c’est pour moi l’état qui devrait intervenir en première ligne. Mais on ne peut que constater le manque de moyen de celui-ci et la lutte des associations dans ce domaine permet de faire pression sur lui pour obtenir des mesures concrètes. L’homme s’avérera bien sympathique, look dreadlocks-cool, étudiant en psychologie au Miral (faculté de Toulouse autant engagé que Nanterre à Paris). Grâce à lui j’apprendrai l’existence d’Oxfam, association dont le but premier est justement le lobbying des puissants en faveur des droits de l’Homme, de l’accès à l’eau et à l’éducation.

Mais ce n’est pas cela qui va me marquer : derrière lui passe, à pas lents et irréguliers, une femme à la peau ridée et aux cheveux gris-blancs dont les yeux scintillent de larmes. Le visage, hideusement déformé sous le coup de la tristesse, semble figé en une expression intense d’horreur et de désespoir. Elle porte des courses, un petit sac jaune déformé par la forme d’un livre, et mon esprit se demande quels malheurs l’accablent alors que mon coeur d’empathie se saisie. C’est un autre jeune inconnu, un autre passant, dont les pas le mènent à côté d’elle et la voyant ainsi, qui lui offrira une épaule où elle s’épanchera un moment. Trop loin pour saisir les mots échangés – s’il y en avait – il me reste l’image de ce couple improbable, dans la nuit toulousaine,  le jeune homme l’enserrant de son bras dans une attitude protectrice, et la dame âgée trouvant quelques réconforts contre cette jeune épaule.

La tristesse, parfois sourde, invisible, sévit souvent à nos côtés, où bien elle passe sans mot dire juste à notre porte. Et sous cette tristesse, il y a des hommes, des femmes aux vies ou situations parfois bien tragiques. Il ne faut pas s’enfermé dans notre vie, nos malheurs, il ne faut pas se couper du monde, il faut l’écouter, et si le courage ou l’instant s’y présente, agir. Agir pour sécher des larmes, c’est un premier pas vers un sourire.
