Back in the days, Glasgow art-pop band the Yummy Fur, had members like Alex Kapranos and Paul Thomson(Franz Ferdinand) and were led by Jackie McKeown(1990s) or John McKeown. The band existed seven years, from 1992 untill 1999.

But for the fans (I don’t count myself as one), good news! The band is getting back together for the first USA tour ever!

McKeown and Thomson will be in the band, Kapranos will be not. Also, a best-of compilation will be released.

Sonja hat es eilig wieder nach Hause zu kommen. Nicht weil sie die Fahrt nicht genießt, sondern weil sie einfach ein paar Termine hat, die sie nicht verpassen sollte. Also geben wir Gas, sofern das mit ihr möglich ist *fg*, und legen mal etwas mehr Kilometer als die letzten Tage zurück: am Ende werden es 100,5 Km sein. Ein paar Anstiege sind zwar dabei, aber dennoch werden es trotz des meist sanften Gefälles nicht mehr Kilometer werden.
Sonderlich schön ist das Fahren hier nichtmehr, wir befinden uns auf der E60 und die ist schließlich sehr ordentlich befahren. Allein macht mir das weniger aus, da trage ich dann meine Kopfhörer und höre Musik oder ein Hörspiel/-buch. Zu zweit ist es jedoch nicht der bringer. Wir fahren hintereinander und können uns kaum unterhalten. Die Straße wird stellenweise auch arg schmal, was das Radfahren nicht ungefährlicher oder angenehmer macht.

So durchqueren wir Huedin und alsbald wird es wieder ein bisschen hügeliger. Aber nicht für lange. Hinter Alesd schlafen wir zwischen Maisfeldern und Obstbäumen. Irgendjemand wirft in der Nacht einen Maiskolben an unser Zelt. Liebe Güte, was kann man da einen Schrecken bekommen!

Beim Händler ist folgendes über das Kaikkialla zu lesen:

Und was sage ich dazu?
Im Grunde sagt dieser Text schon fast alles über das Kissen aus und sogar das Gewicht (inkl. Packsack) ist korrekt angegeben. Lediglich auf das Packmaß kommt man erst, wenn man das Kissen irgendwo zwischenquetscht. Bei normaler Lagerung im Beutel ist das Kissen je ca. 2cm größer. Aber geschenkt. Apropo Beutel: mich interessiert, warum dieser für das Kissen etwas zu groß ist. Klar, lieber etwas zu groß als zu klein, gerade in der Weite – super beim Einpacken. In der Länge hat er aber mal locker 5cm Übermaß. Störend? Nöö, das stört nicht. Wundern darf ich mich aber doch.

Tanka auf, Kissen rausgezogen, Ventil auf und schon hört man wie sich das Kissen voll Luft saugt. Praktischerweise geht das mit 15 Sekunden sehr schnell (je nachdem wie lange es komprimiert war) und in ausreichendem Maße. Ein Nachpusten ist, zumindest nach meinen Bedürfnissen, nicht mehr nötig. Das Ventil erscheint recht günstig, aber absolut ausreichend.
Nun liegt das Bone Shape vor einem. Macht schnell ein Foto, denn so schön wird es nicht bleiben. Nach den ersten Nächten blättert der schicke Kaikkialla Aufdruck ab und hinterlässt ein ganz blasses Negativ. Das Deko war wohl nur als Vorschlag gemeint. Schlimm ist auch das nicht, höchstens schade.
Alles andere als schlimm oder schade ist das angenehme Obermaterial des Kissens. Es fühlt sich zwar recht glatt an, ist aber angenehm auf der Haut und bleibt dies auch die Nacht über.

Der innere Aufbau ist etwas anders als bei einer selbstaufblasenden Isomatte. Während bei ihr der Schaumstoff im Inneren aus einem Stück besteht, wurde er für das Kissen quasi gehäckselt. Somit ist es nicht nur bequem, sondern isoliert nebenbei auch noch gut.

Zum Verpacken wird das Ventil einfach geöffnet, das Kissen zusammengerollt, das Ventil geschlossen und das Kissen in den Packsack geschoben. Das dauert keine 15 Sekunden.

Alternativen?
Auf dem Markt gibt es verschiedene vergleichbare Produkte. Sehr ähnlich ist das vorgestellte Bone Shape dem Mammut (Ajungilak) SoftSkin Pillow, welches aber mit 24,95€ 6€ mehr kostet als das Kaikkialla Kissen. Mit 19,95€ ist man mit dem Ajungilak Air Pillow dabei. Meins hat den ersten Urlaub nicht überlebt, die „Schweißnaht“ der Luftblase hat sich gelöst und fortan konnte ich es nur noch mit Pullifüllung nutzen. Da ich die Blase schon während des Urlaubs entsorgt hab, wollte mir Mammut keinen Ersatz zukommen lassen. Ärgerlich aber wohl verständlich.
Das Air Pillow ist zwar recht bequem, knarzt aber wenn man sich bewegt und das kann einen echt stören! Da die Handhabung auch nicht so schön wie bei den anderen beiden erwähnten Kissen ist, stellt es meines Erachtens keine Alternative dar. Zumal das Bone Shape auch noch billiger ist.
Gewichtige Konkurrenz gibt’s mit dem Pillow XL aus dem eigenen Haus. Vom Aufbau ist das XL mit dem Bone Shape identisch, nur sieht es nicht nach einem Knochen aus und ist wesentlich größer. Maße: 45 cm x 25 cm x 15 cm, Packmaß im Beutel: 28 cm x 9 cm – sagt der Globetrotterkatalog. Hier das Problem des XL: wer auf das Packmaß und Gewicht achten muss, wird sich das XL sicher nicht kaufen. Es wirkt wirklich riesig, während das Bone Shape immer noch eine Lücke in den Packtaschen findet.

Apropo Gewicht und Packmaß. Die meisten Unterwegsleute nehmen natürlich überhaupt kein Kissen mit. Ihnen langt der zusammengeknautschte Pulli unter ihrem Kopf. Ich habs probiert und war davon nicht begeistert. 150 weitere Gramm und ein Bisschen weniger Platz in den Taschen stören mich nicht im Geringsten – guter Schlaf ist mir unterwegs wichtiger. Das Shape Pillow ist und bleibt dabei.

Problematisch: meine Freundin findets auch toll und ist immer bestrebt es mir zu stibitzen.

Und mein Prädikat? Sehr empfehlenswert

Hey There,

Every few years, a band that was popular in the seventies or eighties who had broken up will reunite and go on a tour.   In the tours of this nature that I’ve seen (Yes and REM, specifically), the performances were great.

The one group I would like to see reunite is Genesis.  Now, I know they did reunite a couple of years ago, but it wasn’t the lineup I wanted.  During my favorite era of Genesis’ history, the lineup was Peter Gabriel on Vocals, Steve Hackett on Guitar, Mike Rutherford on Bass, Tony Banks on Keyboards and Phil Collins on Drums.  This era, roughly from 1971-1975, produced my favorite Genesis songs.  That’s not to say that I don’t like their later work, but 1971-1975 is second to none.

It’s that lineup that I wish reunited and toured.  There have been rumors of them reuniting from time to time, but they never actually happened.  If they did actually reunite to play live, this is the set list I would like them to play:

1. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway/Fly on a Windshield/Broadway Melody of 1974 – These are the first three songs of Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and exemplify this classic era lineup- great musicianship, excellent lyrics, expert use of dramatic dynamics.  Of these, Broadway Melody is my favorite, but instrumental section at the end of Fly on a Windshield is as heavy as they get.

2. Get ‘Em Out By Friday – This is from Foxtrot (1972).  This is an interesting song, about a fictional version of England where the Directors of Genetic Control have decided to make people shorter.  Peter plays a number of characters in this song, which adds to the drama.  Musically, it’s a busy song with some odd time signatures.  For the eight and a half minutes of the song, there aren’t a whole lot of breaks, which keeps you listening.

3. Firth of Fifth -  This is from Selling England By the Pound.  The lyrics aren’t the best, but the instrumental break contains one of Steve Hackett’s most dramatic solos. I get chills every time I hear it.  After he left the band, Mike Rutherford took over the solo.  While still dramatic, it’s not the same when Mike plays it.

4. Dancing with the Moonlight Knight – This is the opening track of Selling England By the Pound (1973).  It begins with Peter singing a cappella, then builds to a fast instrumental break.  The lyrics contain a number of mythological and English references, which I had to look up, but the first two minutes or so are some of the most beautiful singing and musical accompaniment in Genesis’ history.

5. The Musical Box – This song is from Nursery Cryme (1971) and is one of the most famous songs of the Classic Era.  The instrumental break goes from soft to very hard to soft and the last few minutes are pretty dramatic.  Lyrically, this song is pretty strange.  A boy’s soul is trapped in a musical box that plays Old King Cole.  When a girl (the one who actually killed the boy), opens the box, the boy comes back to life, but starts to age rapidly.  He becomes lecherous towards the girl, whose nanny walks in at the end and kills the “old” boy by throwing the musical box at him.  Like I said, it’s weird, but a great song.  In recent years, the band played the ending of the song as part of a medley.

6. More Fool Me – This is from To give Peter a break and let Phil sing, I’d like them to play this song.  It’s a strangely sweet song about a guy whose girlfriend walked out on him.

7. Anyway – This is from disc 2 of Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.  By far, my favorite Genesis song of all time.  Lamb was a concept album, but this song also works on it’s own.  It’s mainly about death, or more accurately, waiting for death.  The main character of the album and the song believes he is going to die and has accepted it, so he’s waiting for the end.  This song includes a great guitar solo, great piano playing and an active drum part.  If this song starts to play on my ipod, I’ll usually listen to it twice before moving to the next song.

8. In the Cage – This is from Disc 1 of Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.  I like the keyboard solo on this song most of all.  It’s a pretty fast song that is based on a difficult rhythm.

9. Supper’s Ready – This song is pretty much all of Side B From Foxtrot (Horizons, a short acoustic solo by Steve Hackett is also on Side B).  This is Genesis’  longest song  (over 23 minutes).  Over the course of the song, there are a number of different melodies.  Not all of the sections are great, but taken together, the song does a good job of building the drama to a great climax (a section called Apocalypse in 9/8).  One of my favorites, but I don’t always have 23 minutes to listen to a song.  They regularly played this song live, so I know they could play it during a reunion tour.

10. The Knife – This is the only song from the pre-Phil Collins and Steve Hackett lineup, from an album called Trespass.  In contrast to the rest of Trespass, it is a very aggressive song about a violent revolution.  They often used this as a closing number or an encore and I believe it is the perfect way to end the concert.

These 10 songs amount to about an hour and a half of music.  As an encore, I’d have them play Back in NYC (from Lamb Lies Down on Broadway), Watcher of the Skies (from Foxtrot) and I Know What I Like (from Selling England By the Pound).

Nottingham…

We had a great day…Yvette and Beebe and myself were treated to a wonderful tour of the city from our hotel friend Michel (who was originally from Poland, moved to Nottingham to make money then move back to Poland and open his bar).

We got to walk around the streets and see the some wonderful old buildings but then very specially we got to see Nottingham Castle, the background of Robin Hood. It was almost surreal knowing that we were there where soooo much history had taken place.

After Nottingham Castle we went to “the oldest Inn in England” called the Jerusalem which is as old as 1189 AD…they play a game in there which is where a metal circle hangs from the roof and you have to swing it onto a hook on the wall. A lady was there playing with no luck, I stepped in and asked to quickly have a go…and guess what…as you can see from the pictures below I got the ring on the hook….FIRST GO!!!! I was so excited, shocked, happy, elated!!

The Inn was such a cute little place. The owner greeted us as we entered (we only went in to have a quick look around) and we went up stairs which were sooo narrow and small, I had to duck to make my way through the corridors…it was so wonderful to get to see the size and style of such an old Inn.

It was such a cute little town with pretty streets and beautiful buildings…and to top it all off Nottingham Castle and Jerusalem Inn made the day wonderful….

It’s such an awkward position to fall asleep in and that just makes him so cute. His hair looks so floppy in this…just want to touch it. xD He also looks so peaceful sleeping like that. <333

But it does go to show how tired they get after hectic schedules/concerts that they can fall asleep anywhere. :/
