Heyy guys! Rockhopper is on his way just as I predicted not too long ago! Anyways, as you can see, here is his ship popping over the horizon:

The title says it all! The Fire Dojo has been completed(except for the Card Jitsu Game Itself), The Dojo Courtyard has also been decorated, and The Ninja Hideout. So, here are the rooms:

Remember when Club Penguin said that the new room woould be unveiled soon? And within a week a new room was here? So, possibly within a week, Card Jitsu Fire will be here! Be sure to comment! The British chipmusician Syphus is a schooled composer who has been active in the Amiga demoscene for ages, written his dissertation on chip music and how its formats have survived the age of MP3-recoded music. Now he’s developing a DJ-tool for Amiga MOD-files, where instruments and sequence data is individually accessible. Recorded music enables very limited manipulation of the music but with the MOD-format you can change potentially every aspect of a song; tones and scales, rhythms, volumes, arrangement, etc. This is an old dream of mine coming true; an untapped potential of well-archived and “open source” chipmusic.

Syphus is also experimenting with the music as visual cues, making real-time visual synchronization with the MOD-files. He is presenting a first version of the project today at Dorkbot Newcastle. I have tried it out and it is very promising. Coded in the Java-based Processing, it’s possible to run it even on the web (but not on Amiga). He’s also planning on releasing the source code, if I’ve understood correctly.

I am not sure if there are other tools like this around, which is perhaps a bit surprising. Maybe it’s because you can’t play two songs simultaneously on one machine, forcing you to use blasphemous platforms that miss the 8-bit spirituality that chip-fundamentalists crave for. There is Gwem’s STj which is great to make DJ-sets on two Ataris, but afaik it doesn’t feature any music-manipulating functions.

Hey guys

Here are some tips on how to find me on cp. These first tips will be base on whats servers I like to go to.

I pretty much go to sasquacth or sometimes sleet, mammoth or Aurora. I am usely at the ninja hideout or in my iggloo.

These are some chat groups I like to go to. Manely Chrisdog 93s or Bikeboy 93s. We could chat and then find out how to meet each outher.

Since my work deals with both health and technology, I’ve been especially interested in using online running logs to track my runs. But even though there’s a lot of options out there, I had trouble finding one that met my needs. I also didn’t really want to pay for a service since I felt like I don’t need or want the most advanced features. I also don’t use GPS or want any mobile apps, so none of that really mattered to me.

After trying several and finally finding one I like, I thought I’d put together my experiences with the sites I’ve tried, in the order I tried them:

MapMyRun.com: I started using this to mark my running distances and used it all during my marathon training.
Although I created a free account, I never really used the logging functions. When I went back to try the site again, I found too much going on – there are three steps to log a workout, there’s groups/goals/challenges and various social functions, and to be honest, it’s all a bit overwhelming. Every time I tried to use the running log I ended up getting lost around the site, and the input form itself is not the greatest. NEXT!

BestRunningLog.com: I actually really like this site. The form to add a run is really simple but thorough, and the entire site is elegant to navigate. The site includes charts, stats, and PRs all for the free account, and generally asks for just the right amount of information – weather, distance, comments, pace, etc. It also clearly shows race vs. training. The only major drawback is there’s no way to map your run and connect it to the log, which was enough for me to start looking for another site.

TrainingPeaks.com: I found this one because it links up to Microsoft HealthVault, and I liked the idea of being able to share whatever info I put in there with other sites. TrainingPeaks is nothing if not thorough, and I quickly knew I was in over my head. The site is not the most user-friendly, but for Very Serious athletes it is extremely robust. You can plan and track workouts and meals down to the calories and various nutrients, which is way more than I really needed.

Meanwhile, TrainingPeaks (like MapMyRun) has a free version and a paid version with more features, and unfortunately, I kept finding more things liked behind the paywall. Certain graphs were not available, and I couldn’t plan future runs. TrainingPeaks is also not purely a running service, and you can tell.

Finally, and this is admittedly nitpicky, the route planner used some sort of internal mapping service unlike Google Maps like all the other sites. I don’t want to be a Google snob, but I’m used to looking at it and their maps are really buggy. Nothing is worse than mapping out a detailed run only to have the site freeze and lose it. So, NEXT!

ActiveTrainer: Part of the Active.com family, where CoolRunning lives, ActiveTrainer is a fairly basic running log. I was able to get a few free training plans through a T-Mobile promo, and having them automatically filled on the calendar is a nice feature.

The site is not the easiest to use and looks fairly stripped down, but I found that it has most of the same features of the other sites, including a route tracker that uses Google Maps!

I thought I had a winner on my hands, but when I tried to load a saved route into a workout, I was told only premium (paid) users could do that. Since that’s a basic feature on the other sites, I thought there had to be something better. Also, the Active.com community and site is just meh. The articles are not all that interesting and it’s not somewhere I would visit otherwise.

NYTimes: The Well blog has been covering marathons and running extensively leading up to yesterday’s NYC Marathon, and the site put up a training tool. It seems to be working for me now, but for weeks it wasn’t loading properly. While it’s nice to have the free training plans, the log itself is not nearly as robust as the other sites.

I’d hope that in the future, NYTimes sticks to reviewing other sites instead of trying to create their own. Or, even better, team up with one of the other sites to offer these great plans inside another site.

One site that was mentioned on the Well blog wast DailyMile, which seems to be great for sharing and syncing with Facebook (think Twitter for runners), but I’m not that much of an exhibitionist runner, ha.

So finally I tried out the Runner’s World log, which is probably where I should have started in the first place. This place is clearly made for runners. It has everything – clear stat charts, Google Maps that links really easily to new runs, a clear view of how many miles and hours run over the past week, month, and year, and an easy way to track PRs.

Runner’s World also has tons of articles and blogs, of course, AND it has free training plans based off previous times and personal goals. It’s clearly the overwhelming winner for me.
